So I'm at work at Stop N Shop at like 5:50 pm. Suddenly our lights go out!!! We lost power for almost 3 hours. Come to find out 10 towns in Connecticut had lost power!!! It was crazy. We weren't told why we lost power and I can't find anything on the internet yet but I will keep you all posted!!

Where do you live in CT? B/c I go to school in Northampton, MA (about 20 minutes from the state-line), and last night we had a black-out. It was definitely a separate event, though, b/c only the town was affected here. But it's still freaky that the same thing happened to you.

I was in my room talking to two of my friends when suddenly my light starts dimming, and then the whole house was pitch-black. About 15 seconds later, the back-up generators turned on (they're always on for safety reasons), so at least we had lights in our hallways...but no power in the bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, dining hall, etc. We had lost power for almost 5 hours. The heaters stopped working, and our telephone/cable connections didn't come back until this morning.

It was pretty scary at first b/c we saw a bunch of firetrucks and police cars drive by our house. I guess a power line fell and started a fire. Thank god I was in my room and not somewhere else, like downtown at a concert or the movie theater.

But, if it's statewide, that sounds like a major power plant went down or something. I know when the St. Louis Metro area lost power this past July, storms knocked out everthing.

What is going on with whole states losing electricity?

Ok so on the 11 oclock news it was said that CL&P (Connecticut Light and Power) was working on a transmittor line and they started working on the back up line and it failed. Thats why the areas that was without power was without power. Bradley International Airport lost power. The power came back on around 9. So it was out for like 3 hours. I live about 20 mins from the mass border. Its near Agwam where six flags NEw England is.
