The thing that strikes me is that with Jill and Kay, each one was jealous of what the other had, Jill wanted Kay's position and money, while Kay was insanely jealous of Jill being young and beautiful, with her whole life ahead of her. Seeing how fidgety and anxious Kay was, it's obvious the woman very badly needed a psychiatrist. So your husband worked alot and neglected you. BOO FRICKIN HOO. She apparently is falling apart because she is bored. Doesn't she have any personal interests? Hobbies? She has enough money to indulge any interest she may have. If nothing else, she could do volunteer work for charities or political causes, she just comes off as gluttonous and self absorbed, falling apart unless the universe revolves around her. I've known a few people like that in my time, and they come in ALL income levels. When Brenda flubs her line, I think she recovers nicely, and I wouldn't have re-shot that, either. Considering it was live to tape, they didnt stop tape unless a wall fell down. And the character was nervous, so mis-speaking is a natural human trait, especially when one is nervous.. so for me, it fits in ok and I totally have no problem with it. Things like that give a show a more human touch. I like a professionally performance, but it doesn't have to be totally perfect. Theresa was VERY dutiful, wasn't she? I would hate to have a job like that. that phone would ring, I'd answer it, and I'd say "Kay, it's for you!" And she'd fire me for insubordination. I'm just not a formal person, and I don't call people Mr. or Mrs. whatever.

This is just such a good episode, I don't know where to start. First, this proves that soap does NOT have to be pure escapism to be riveting. A family like the Fosters you'd never see on soaps today, BUT people would identify and root for them, I think a family such as that would prove very popular. All the acting is great, one thing that's glaring, is that at 5' 11" and then with heels on on top of that, Lee Crawford just TOWERS over everyone. Especially her scenes with Robert Clary, she makes him look like a munchkin, an odd looking couple, to be sure. Jeanne looked amazing, and I LOVE her fur coat! This was when a rich woman wore a REAL fur, and looked damn good doing it. John Considine is interesting as Phillip, I remember the day Donnely Rhodes took over, and I thought he didn't look quite as aristocratic as Considine. Another thing I noticed, is that John Conboy really liked having the actors eat oranges in scenes, they did this quite a bit, I guess cause it's easy to deal with, and the peeling of the orange gives the actors something to do with their hands, makes the scene look a bit more interesting that just someone stirring a cup of coffee. Oh, BTW... when Jeanne is walking through the living room, there is 30 seconds of silence, because of a copyright flag on the background music that was playing during it. There was no dialogue, however.

Oh, I totally agree about Miss Patti. And your example of The Supremes I understand, but with them, the songs and production were as much the stars as Ross, who had more charisma than voice. Her drive has been attributed to insecurity, because she felt inferior to Flo in the voice department and inferior to Mary in the looks department. And although they became popular with the "style over substance" kind of thing, after Ross was gone, it reversed itself, and Jean Terrell ended up being someone who sang Ross under the table.

Well... as far lyrics, I do understand what you are saying here. and believe you me, there was crap in other decades as well. But what I was referring to is not lyrics, but the melody structure of the song. To me, lyrics can be silly or stupid or not make sense and that's ok, the production, the singer, and the melody is what I think is the most important. Christina A. DOES have a voice, and if she'd just change the way she sings, dare I say it, she'd actually be GOOD. The reason I bitch so much about singers today (and believe me, I bitch about this EVERYWHERE, not just here) is that unless the listening public makes their voice heard on public forums, we never get anything of better quality. Honestly I think Kylie Minogue kind of started this ball rolling of style over substance, but at least her SAW tunes were listenable and infectious, and dare I say it, HAPPY. That's another thing that's kind of missing on the charts is JOY, It seems a far larger percentage of songs all come from a dark place, anger.. resentment... violence. And I LOVE a tear jerkin song, but maybe it's just that music seems to take itself too seriously, even when it's meant to be light pop. Yep. I'm DYING for something good to come along, I really am. There are always people who pop up from time to time who are truly GREAT... like Frenchie Davis, but she can't get any traction because she''s too fat to be marketed as a sex symbol. And when she DOES finally record an album, they put effing AUTOTUNE on her! On Frenchie Davis! Anyone who condones that kind of crap just needs to sit the hell down. There are a few things out there good to be had, though... Ceelo Green has put out some amazing stuff.

I honestly gave this a shot and listened to the whole thing. I think there are two things that bother me about her. First, this song seems very repetitive to me, no real structure with verses and chorus, etc. At least it has a bridge, but it's an unremarkable one. And her voice sounds far too similar to Christina Aguilera, except with less melisma and less richness of tone. Once again, this is the same problem with most all singers on the charts today, lack of uniqueness and an instantly recognizeable sound. I appreciate her need to be creative, but there is also a fine line between artistic genius and freak show. I'm wondering if from a songwriting standpoint, her well has run dry early. I just don't picture seeing her being a songwriter in the long term turning out stuff on the level of Elton John, etc. Her voice also seems electronically enhanced, which sucks all the raw emotion out of a song, and is very over-produced.

That's Mark Henderson, Bruce and Regina Henderson's son, and Liz Foster's Nephew (As Bruce Henderson is Liz Foster's brother) This was another one of Bill Bell's incest storylines, Lorie and Mark fell in love, and then we find out that Bruce Henderson is Lorie's biological father, as Jennifer had an affair with Bruce years ago, an affair that was rekindled just a couple of months before she found her cancer. Mark broke off the relationship, although Lorie didn't want to, she didn't care if he was her half brother, she proclaimed she wanted to be with him anyway. And believe you me, that was some controversial sh!t in 1975. Hell, that is still controversial today. Bill Bell and Jamie got a ton of hate mail for that storyline.

I just saw it.. WOW. I never knew she did anything like that. That was some pretty heavy stuff. One thing I loved about this Y&R episode is how Lorie was trying to blame Leslie for Brad not practicing medicine, and Leslie turned it around and made her SQUIRM. this was AFTER Leslie had been in the mental institution, and yet here Lorie is, trying to saddle her with psychological guilt. also, one thing that made the Peggy scenes so emotional is that a few weeks before this, Peggy had told her mother that she wished she were dead, that's why Jennifer hid her condition from Peg, because she knew how much guilt and turmoil it would cause for her. Peggy wasn't told until the biopsy came back positive and surgery was certain. The scenes where Jennifer is waking up, once again.. CREEPY AS HELL, it's amazing to see just how this show was just a couple steps above Dark Shadows, it's just so very dark, and that's what made it so special. When they try and do darkness today, it always falls flat, because the show isn't produced right for it. Also, look at Pamela Peters compared to the young actresses on the show today. MILES ahead in talent, not one young actress on Y&R today comes even close to being that good, that engrossing.

Ok you guys... here's a big, fat, never before seen treat since 1975. October 1975 Jennifer Brooks mastectomy episode. The biopsy episode is already on youtube, this episode is 2 days later. The caliber of acting here is amazing, Pamela Peters especially...the heartbreak and deep turmoil for Peggy is just palpable in her performance.

The Politics Thread
Well, last week was kind of hectic, I had to work 3 days at the store doing flowers for the funeral of Congressman Ike Skelton, former chair of the armed services committee. He was in office for 34 years, I never met him, but alot of people around here liked him.

I wonder if CBS saw where they were going and made them back off. It has been said many times that ABC was the instigator of making Steven "Less Gay" on Dynasty, It was just a matter of Esther knuckling under to pressure, and they lost Al Corley because of it. He saw the role as his chance to make television history, and when they wanted to water the character down, he wanted none of it. I think the chemistry between Laura and Ciji was VERY palpable, Connie and Lisa played that element to perfection.

EXACTLY. Republicans kept carrying on about how Obama needed to "negotiate" with them before the shutdown. He ALREADY negotiated when the law was being written! But it all just boils down to greed. A PERFECT example in my own life. One of my former customers has a granddaughter that was just diagnosed with Leukemia. The child is 8 years old, and it is very sad. HOWEVER.... the child is on Medicaid because her mother doesn't make enough money, and she qualifies for it. But her grandparents are RABID Tea Partiers, and are posting things on facebook all the time about personal responsbility, and not letting the "Nanny state" take care of you, all the while their own granddaughter is on Medicaid, and their church is organizing a fund raiser for her care... all the while, these grandparents own TWO million dollar homes, and are sitting on a net worth of 3-4 million dollars. So you see how THAT works.

What was the title??? "How to be a cow on 10$ a day"? But seriously, I think Joy's spot should be rotating guest hosts... I like guest hosts, you don't hear the same blather all the time, it keeps a show from getting stale.- The Politics Thread

Man... looking at Beth and Eileen in the scene at 5:45, along with the perfect background music. Just a perfect emotional ballet. You can really FEEL what the characters are feeling. I don't think there is a single younger actor on the show today that can hold a candle to Beth when she was young. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvWVkmf_7Ss&list=UUGxJeDjZ65VEz81qzAubTJA&index=19 Eileen's mannerisms and body language in that scene is so spot on.- The Politics Thread
