At Springfield High, Shayne and Tamy rehearse their speeches privately while the rest of their classmates put the final additions on the auditorium for the ceremony later that night. Tammy tells Shayne that she is going to cry! Shayne tells her not to do that because then Lizzie will cry, then Marina and then he’ll end up consoling them. Tammy laughs as she hugs her cousin. Tammy asks if his special someone is coming to the ceremony and Shayne reveals that he no longer has a special someone, she apologizes and later leaves.

At the farmhouse, Cassie hands Tammy a letter from George Washington University and she questions what that is. Tammy explains that she submitted an application there and wants Cassie too seriously consider letting her go. Cassie questions why she wants to leave Springfield to attend college. Tammy tells her that she wants a fresh start and reminds Cassie that she did say she would be able to attend any university she wanted. Cassie assures her daughter that she has not forgotten that promise and tells her that they will discuss it later. Tammy agrees.

Beth is at Lillian’s distraught over this yet again and realizes that she can’t keep this development from Lizzie, not again especially after she kept Bill and her wedding to Phillip from her. Lizzie arrives at Lillian’s as planned and Beth sits her daughter down. Beth explains what happened the night before with Phillip, Olivia, Alan and the baby. Beth says that she is not willing to work through this with Phillip and that they’ll be getting a divorce. Lizzie becomes furious saying that this is not how things were supposed to happen, not tonight anyway and storms off. Beth wants to go after her but Lillian encourages her to let Lizzie come to terms with this on her own.

After finishing his speech, Shayne and Marina get ready to leave Springfield High. When Shayne goes to open up his locker, he’s horrified by what he sees staring back at him. In large, red block letters the word, “FAG” is written in his locker. He quickly regains his composure before Marina can see and slams the door, the two of them quickly leave together as another student watches from down the hall…

Lizzie bursts into Spaulding Enterprises where she finds her father cleaning out his desk. Lizzie questions, “So it’s true? You slept with Olivia and now Grandfather is kicking you out.” Phillip asks if Lizzie spoke with her mother and when she assures him that she did Phillip tries to give her his side of the story. Lizzie tells him to save his lies, because they won’t work on her not this time! Lizzie says that they had a chance to be a real family again and Phillip blew it to hell! She goes to leave and assures Phillip she will never forgive him for this, NEVER!

Lillian Raines held in her hand a brush that she had just used hours earlier to comb Lizzie’s hair. “I can’t believe that your daughter is at her senior prom right now,” Lillian smiled. “Are you about ready to get in bed?” She turned the covers down and fluffed a pillow. “Ed gave you some sleeping pills you should take one. I know I said you should rest but sleep will be better.”

Beth stood in the walk-in closet and rub her stomach it ached somewhat but nothing drastic. “Are you sure that you won’t reconsider?”

“What staying the night?” Lillian questioned as she sat the bottle of pills next to an unopened letter on Beth’s dresser. “No, but thank you for the offer,” she picked up the envelope and looked it over. “Honey what is this letter?”

Appearing from the closet and ignoring the question, “Phillip said that he wanted to talk to me about something tonight and I just think that he may have found us a new house is all.” She waved her hand at Lillian, “This might be your last opportunity to stay in the Spaulding mansion for awhile.”

“I’ll take my chances,” Lilian mumbled as she studied the envelope. “This is from Cedars honey. It was just sitting here on your dresser.”

“Is there a name on it?” Beth finally asked.

“Just Spaulding is all.” She replied, “Should I open it? Do you care Beth?”

“No, not at all,” Beth replied as Lilian slid her finger under the flap and unfolded the letter inside. She quickly read it and recognized what it was and her breath muttered, “Oh Beth.”

“What was it? More notes from Ed? Let me guess, plenty of rest, fluids and no driving for what a week, two weeks?” Beth laughed, “Momma?”

“This wasn’t for you. Silly us, you’re not the only Spaulding in this house, it was for, um…Olivia.”

“Olivia, really? You’re lying Momma and I know when you’re lying, just like you know when I am, give me the paper.”

“I’m not lying Beth it wasn’t for you,” Lillian said sternly.

Beth snatched the paper from Lillian’s tight grip and read the information for herself. Her lips trembled as she read the words. “Is this legitimate?” She finally questioned. “Momma you would know is this a fake or is it real?”

“It looks authentic yes, but that doesn’t mean it is Beth. There could be a mistake or something, errors do happen.”

“And I understand that, but Phillip requested this paternity test not Olivia, not Alan, Phillip. My husband has reason to believe that he’s the father of her baby and…” the realization hit her suddenly, “go home Momma.”

    “Beth…”

“Don’t patronize me, don’t you dare.” With tears in her eyes, she looked at Lillian, “Go home and leave that to my husband.”

“Leave what to me?” Phillip questioned from the doorway. “What’s going on?”

“Funny I was just about to ask you the same damn thing?” Beth announced!

“Okay.” Phillip responded, “Lillian how are you tonight?”

    From the day we met
    You made me forget
    All my fears
You knew just what to say
    And you kissed away
    All my tears
I knew this time I had finally found
Someone to build my life around
Be a lover and a friend
After all my heart had put me through
I knew that it was safe with you
What we had would never end...
    Wrong Again.

Lillian’s eyes crossed to Beth who was still standing in shock, “Up until about two minutes ago I was one of the happiest women in the world, certainly the happiest woman in Springfield. Beth I’m going downstairs…”

With her back to them both, she spoke calmly, in a reserved and respected manner. “Do you know how many times I have thought to myself, ‘Beth you are so lucky, Phillip is such a good man. Trustworthy and depenable…faithful and honest’ I remind myself every morning, every night how blessed I am to have found you again, how lucky I am to be loved by such a man,” she spun around with the recognizable letter in hand. "But right now, right here it seems like I was wrong."

“Lillian will you excuse us please.” Phillip opened the door, “Beth and I have some things to discuss.”

Lillian looked at Beth who nodded, “I’ll be fine.”

As Phillip turned back to face Beth he met the palm of her hand against the side of his face, “You son-of-a-bitch!” She screamed out in anger. “How long, how long have you known that she was having your baby?”

“Beth…” Phillip spoke in a condescending voice.

“Stop right there, not another word,” she laughed, “I told Momma that you would do that. Speak to me like you talk to Lizzie or the staff around this…place.” The words left a bitter taste in her mouth and she choked back her tears. “It’s amazing…”

    “What?” Phillip questioned.

“Take your pick. It’s amazing how you’ve learned to lie with such ease and show no remorse for it. It’s amazing, how much you are like Alan in so many ways yet you think you're so much better than he is. It is amazing that we, that you and I are here again, we’ve only just begun and we’re already finished.”

“I didn’t know that Hannah was mine until the night she was born,” Phillip explained.

“And do you think that makes this better? I don’t give a damn about when you found out, I could care less. What I do care about is what you told me when we got married in Las Vegas,” she shot him a cold look. “You lied to me and then not a hour later you took vows, you made me promises that you could never keep. I asked you Phillip to tell me everything, we were supposed to begin this marriage without any baggage, no secrets. I opened my heart up to you again and this, this is how you repay me? This is how you show your love?” She screamed at the top of her lungs. “So you see I don’t care when you found out about Hannah, because you knew all along. You knew that you and Olivia had slept together, you’re not an idiot so let’s not pretend that you are.” Beth paused and looked up at him. “You love her don’t you?” She asked the question he had been avoiding for months, “We both know the answer to that question so don’t even bother dignifying it with an answer.”

“I don’t know what to say,” Phillip told her. “I wish I could say something that would make sense but I can’t.”

“Why did you marry me again?” Beth questioned directly. “You could have…” she stumbled over her own words and finally managed, “why?”

“Honestly?” Phillip knew he was about to break her heart, “I thought I had lost Olivia for good. I thought that she and Alan were going to make a life together with the baby and that she would forget about what we shared. When you said marry me I thought to myself if I can’t Olivia then…”

“Then what? You would settle for poor, fragile Beth!” She reached up and slapped him across the face for a second time, “I am a lot of things Phillip Granville, but second best to Olivia Spencer-Spaulding is not one of them, not now and not ever again!”

“That is not what I meant,” he attempted to backtrack. “I love you.”

“You love rescuing me? You love the fact that I have spent my entire adult life loving you in some form or another. No matter where I was or who I was with, Edmund or Jim or Bill you knew just like I knew that there was only one man for me, there was only one Phillip.” She shook her head and sighed, “I’ve made so many mistakes, but I think this has to be the biggest one of my life. And the ironic thing about it is that I never saw it coming, I never imagined this of all things would happen. You know how much I hate that woman, how much Alexandra despises her and your father…” she stopped.

“What about my father?” Phillip asked. “Beth…”

“Has no idea, does he? Alan is down there in that study at this very moment playing house with a child he thinks is his own. When were you going to tell him?”

“Olivia is going to tell him in her own time. Beth please don’t do this, I’m asking you…”

“And for some reason you think you are in a position to ask for favors? You’re keeping this from Alan because you love Olivia. He has a right to know the truth. I won’t play this game, I’m going to tell your father the truth.” Beth declared as she stormed down the hallway of the Spaulding mansion!

    Everybody swore
    They'd seen this before
    We'd be fine
    And you'd come to see
    That you still love me
    In good time
And they said there's nothing you can do
It's something that he's going through
It happens to a lot of men
And I told myself that they were right
That you'd wake up and see the light
And I just had to wait till then
    Wrong again...

Alan sat on the sofa in the study of the mansion, “I still wish you would have considered Penelope.”

“And I told you long ago there was no way I was naming my child Penelope.” Olivia replied as she folded Hannah’s blanket, “Is she sleeping?”

Alan smiled warmly and kissed her forehead, “Like an angel.” Olivia walked across the room and took the baby in her arms and Alan quickly stole a kiss from her, “I’m glad that you’re home, the both of you.”

“Well, the both of us are glad to be home.” Olivia replied, “Alan there was something that I was going to talk to you about, right after I put Hannah to bed…”

“No time like the present!” Beth burst through the doors with the DNA tests in hand. “Good the both of you are here!”

“Beth what is all this about?” Alan got up from the sofa to check on the baby in Olivia’s arms, “Hannah just went to sleep you don’t want to wake her up do you?”

“Of course not.” Beth looked over her shoulder at Lillian who had followed her down the stairs, “Momma would you take Hannah and put her in her crib upstairs.”

“Thank you, but that won’t be necessary Lillian.” Olivia stopped her, “Beth I don’t know what you’re rambling on about so loudly but I’ll put me baby to bed. Excuse me.”

Beth stepped in front of Olivia stopping her in her tracks. “Give her to my mother right now.” She said in a hushed whisper, “I know everything your two-timing, gold digging bitch.” Olivia glanced to Phillip and then handed the baby to Lillian.

“Is anyone going to tell me what the hell is going on here?” Alan roared, “Beth is there a problem between you and Olivia?”

“Something like that,” Beth flashes Olivia the envelope. “Something has happened Alan, something that I think you have a right to know about.”

“What are you doing?” Olivia questioned. “Why are you doing this, you have no idea what you are about to do Beth…”

“Olivia, I swear to God in heaven if you don’t shut up I will backhand clear across this room. And if you don’t believe me ask Phillip.” Beth warned!

“Phillip?” Alan raised his eyebrows. “Does this have to do with the book that Olivia had published because I thought we resolved that issue awhile ago.”

“It doesn’t have anything to do with the book, but it’s nothing I can’t control.” Phillip attempted to get a grip on the situation.

“I’m not backing down from this.” Beth announced, “Do you think I won’t tell him what I know? Why I ever thought that marrying you again was in my best interests I will never know, yet another life alternating mistake. “

“You’ve made plenty.” Olivia smirked. “Send me across the room and see what happens.” She warned.

Beth shook her head, “I’m so done.”

“What is it you’re done with Beth?” Alan questioned.

“This…” she gestured around the room, “I’m through playing games with this damn family.”

Alan flashed her a scornful glare, “Tread lightly Beth. This damn family has provided for you very well if I recall and still is.”

She laughed aloud and thought for a moment, “You…you’re going to lecture me? Don’t even try Alan because Phillip has already tried and failed miserably. I think it’s time that you saw what I did tonight.” She handed him the envelope and announced, “That little girl you were kissing tonight, she’s not your daughter Alan, she doesn’t even have a drop of Spaulding blood in her. Congratulations, you have another granddaughter!”

Alan read the paper closely, “It’s a fake, someone is trying to extort money or something from us. I cannot believe you take that for the truth Beth!”

“It is.” Phillip softly spoke from the back of the room, “She’s my daughter, not yours.”

The room fell silent as Alan rose from the sofa and walked across to the mantle. “He’s known since she was born.” Beth declared, “But it doesn’t end there…”

“Will you shut up?” Olivia seethed with anger. “I think you’ve done enough as it is.”

“I’ve done enough? This is not even remotely my fault, you married Alan, you fell in love with Phillip, you kept the truth from all of us. This is your fault, this is his fault.” She pointed at Phillip.

“ENOUGH!” Alan roared as he slung a picture of him and Phillip from years gone by across the room. “Betrayed by my own son and my wife!” He braced himself against the mantle as Lillian reentered the room.

“Alan, Alan…you need to calm down.” Lillian lectured, “If you’re not careful you’ll have another heart attack.”

“Please he doesn’t have a heart.” Olivia replied. “The only reason we’re here is because Alan replaced my birth control pills with placebos. He tricked us all…”

“That still doesn’t change the facts.” Phillip told her, “I love her and I have for a very long time.” The words stung Beth and Alan bolted across the room but Olivia stepped between him and Phillip.

“You’re going to fight his damn battles now?”

“He’s still your son and you’re parading around her acting like an innocent bystander.”

Alan shook his head, “Get out of my house.” He told Phillip. “You get the hell out of my house and don’t bother coming into Spaulding in the morning you no longer work there.” He looked at Olivia, “As for you…”

“What?” She fired back, “Going to kick me out too? Like a big man, the great and powerful Alan Spaulding…” she laughed and declared, “I’m not going anywhere!”

“Oh the hell you’re not.” Alan grabbed her shoulder and pulled her towards the door.

“Get your damn hands off of her!” Phillip yelled, as Olivia broke free from Alan’s grip.

“Both of you get out!” Alan ordered as he headed towards the door.

“Apparently you weren’t listening Alan, darling!” Olivia stopped him. “I’m serious, I’m not going anywhere. Not tonight, not in the morning, not until I get what I want.”

“We have a prenuptial agreement.” Alan explained, “Or where you to busy screwing my son that you forgot.”

“I didn’t forget. But at the end of the day honey there’s only one Mrs. Alan Spaulding and that’s me and if you think she’s going quietly in the night, then you have forgotten who you’re dealing with.”

“You have lost everything Olivia!” Alan told her, “You agreed to those conditions when we got married, now get out!”

“And apparently you’ve forgotten how to read Alan or well at least your lawyer’s. Did you not think I would read that pre-nup, front wards, backwards, inside and out? There’s a loophole and I found it honey.”

“Impossible.” Alan retorted, “That’s the standard pre-nup I’ve used for years.”

“Well apparently all the former Mrs. Spaulding’s didn’t take the time to read the fine print, I did. Both said parties must be in agreement that dissolution of their marriage is in their best interests.” She quoted, “And that’s word-per-word! I just don’t think that is in our best interests Alan, I think we can work it out.”

    “You’re crazy.”

“And you’re a fool so that makes us even.” Olivia told him, “So like I said I’m not going. Not until I get exactly what I want from you.” She headed out of the study and met Phillip. He agreed to take her suite at the Beacon and she instructed one of the servants to move everything out of the master suite she shared with Alan.

In the study where two broken souls, “Come on Beth let’s go home.” Lillian spoke, “Alan you’ll work through this you always manage to land on your feet.”

“You can stay Beth.” Alan told her, “There’s no reason for you to leave.”

“I meant what I said about being done with this family. I have no place in this house, in this family. I’m just one in a very long list of former Mrs. Spaulding’s and I’m fine with that.” She kissed his cheek, “Take care Alan.”

And it seemed to me the pain would last
My chance for happiness had passed
    Nothing waited 'round the bend
I was sure I'd never find someone
To heal the damage you had done
My poor heart would never mend
    Wrong again
    Wrong again

Lillian took Beth’s arm, “I need to get my things, clothes, jewelry stuff like that.” Beth explained as she and Lillian met Phillip on the staircase. “Momma why don’t you go and pack James and Lizzie some clothes, I’ll be right up.”

    “Is this what you wanted?”

“That’s rich coming from you because by your own admission Olivia is what you wanted, I just simply helped you get her.” Beth grabbed his arm. “I don’t think you will ever comprehend the hurt you have caused me tonight. You will never understand the depth to which I have loved you my entire life Phillip. I never imagined my love for you would ever end, but it has, our love, our life…” a single tear finally fell, “is over. As I walk away from you tonight know that you will regret the day you ever decided I was second best, I promise you you’ll regret ever crossing me.”

    THE GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE
    07/23/2007 Edition

Tulsa, OK – (July 23, 2007) - Mighty big changes are happening for the SONBC nominated blog-series "The Guiding Light" as they prepare for new cast additions, a reality TV show twist, production changes and so much more!

Setside sources are revealing that a new production schedule is in place for the blog as well, beginning this week!

“After careful deliberation and council with my co-head writer (Dan Gobble) we have come to the conclusion that three episodes a week for the series will be beneficial to the stories we are telling,” executive producer Josh Hawkins stated earlier this week.

So what will this change in production mean for the beloved citizens of Springfield and to the readers of the blog? “Hopefully for the citizens it means that stories are going to be told a faster pace,” Gobble stated. “For our readers it will mean that episodes will become a little longer and a little more in-depth. We are committed to telling these stories and we hope that our readers are just as committed,” Gobble concluded.

The change won’t happened immediately however. TGL is taking a week hiatus beginning Monday, July 23, 2007 after Episode 078 is published. “We have to outline, plan and write,” Hawkins laughs. And another change is coming, a special graduation episode is planned for Monday, July 30th wrapping up the teen storyline with the birth of Michelle’s baby.

Michelle (Bethany Joy Galeotti) must watch as her Baby Girl fights for survival this summer!
“We know that baby-related storylines have been beat to death in the daytime arena,” Hawkins continued, “so we don’t want to tell a story that will make readers turn away from the show.” That said however, it will be revealed on the August 1st episode that Baby Bauer has been in pre-natal intensive care since her birth. “The Bauer, Lewis and Danny really rally together in this time,” Hawkins says, “since it is still unclear whether or not Danny or Bill is the biological father.”

In addition to the baby storyline other stories that will be moved forward include: Holly continues to spiral downward as Ross and Blake prepare to marry, the Cedar's project is in full swing and those Lewis boys know something is up, Ben faces the truth that something is the matter with him health wise and Alan/Phillip/Beth/Olivia storyline takes a turn during this time.

"We have some great stories coming down the pike for the last six months in Springfield," Hawkins concluded. "We hope that you'll stick with us and see what we have in store for everyone."

Look for the final episode of TGL before hiatus on Tuesday, July 24th and then the blog resumes a regular air schedule on the 30th.

    CASTING ROUNDUP

    - "The Guiding Light" will welcome Tamara Tunie (Jessica, As The World Turns) to the canvas shortly after the series returns from the schedule hiatus. "We have enjoy utilizing our sister soap," Hawkins smiled. Readers will note that early on in the blog it was revealed that Lillian Raines (Tina Sloan) shares a friendship with Dr. Susan Stewart (Marie Masters.) So will there be more ATWT/TGL crossovers in the future? "Maybe," Hawkins replies, "we don't want to use up a good thing. If the storyline requires something of the nature that would fit of course."

    - There seems to be a reason why the contents of Ed's letter from Roger hasn't been opened yet on screen and it comes down to casting and time according to setside sources. Rumor has it that executives are attempting to lure a veteran charater/actress for a limited run in late summer/early fall. "TGL" doesn't comment on rumors.

    - Could two of of the blog's brighest young starlets be on their way! Some of daytime's biggest and brightest young stars have been spotted roaming the halls of the studio including the recently married Jennifer Finnigan (ex-Bridget, B&, Jennifer Ferrin (ex-Jennifer, ATWT) and even DAYS young star Martha Madison (Belle, DAYS). Could this be a possible recast role or are they looking to fill a recent casting call for a young and powerful executive at Spaulding Enterprise, stay tuned!

    A NEW REALITY TWIST COMING

Final details are being ironed out for an exciting and interesting new reality twist that will tie into the storylines on "The Guiding Light." "I just recently got the approval from co-head writer," laughs the EP Josh Hawkins. The new reader-interaction event is slated to begin August 13th so stay tuned!

“Well isn’t this exciting?” Lizzie asked as Shayne took her hand. “Did you ever think that we would be Springfield High royalty?”

Shayne smiled at her. “Honestly? No!” He laughed. “So what happens now?”

The spotlight hit the center of the dance floor. “I think were supposed to share a dance.” She led him to the center of the room, all eyes rested on them. “Are you having a good time?”

“Yeah, of course I am.” He whispered into her ear. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You just seem distant lately is all,” Lizzie answered. “These are supposed to be the best times of our lives and you just seem content, not upset but not unhappy.”

“You know I have a lot of stuff going on, graduation, my mom and Marah are still fighting with one…” he paused and looked at the girl in his arms, “can I tell you something?” He twirled Lizzie, she laughed as other couples, including Austin and Tammy joined them on the dance floor.

    “What’s on you mind baby?”

Shayne smiled and shook his head. “If someone would have told me that you and I would be here, like this, a year ago I would have laughed so hard.”

“Right!” Lizzie agreed. “It’s the power of friendship.”

“I’m going to tell you something that I have been dealing with for about the last year and half,” Shayne began as the music hit a high note. “What I’m going to tell you is very personal and not a whole lot of people know…” his mind suddenly raced back to the night when Derek arrived in Springfield, his mind filled with Alan-Michael’s venomous words but he pushed that aside.

“If you don’t tell me what’s on your mind this song is going to be over,” Lizzie told him. “Please know that you can trust me Shayne, please.”

    “I’m gay Lizzie.”

She stared up at him, tongue-tied. “Say something.” Shayne told her.

Lizzie shook her head. “You’re sure?” Her words stumbled, “That didn’t come out right, I’m sorry…this is kind of…”

    “Shocking?”

“No not at all…” she realized what she had just implied and backtracked. “Okay, that didn’t come out right either,” and she suddenly realized she had inserted her foot into her mouth once more! “You hate me?”

He shook his head, “No. I know this is a lot to take in on the dance floor of our prom but it’s something that you needed to know, something that I felt you should know.” The music ended as everyone applauded their king and queen one final time.

With her hand in his Shayne led Lizzie off the dance floor. “This doesn’t change anything between us, promise me that.”

“Nothing. I promise.” Lizzie kissed him on the cheek, “And you can trust that I’ll never say anything.”

    “About what?” Austin questioned.

“There you are!” Lizzie wrapped her arms around Austin’s waist, “About Shayne, he just learned how dance like two or something…” her eyes darted from her date to Shayne and then Tammy, “and by the way he was leading out there I had no idea.”

“Right…” Austin agreed. “Why don’t we got get some punch.”

Shayne and Tammy watched them walk away. “What was that all about?” She finally asked.

“Beats the hell out me.” Shayne winked, “Come on…I want to spin you across the dance floor.”

“Ava first thing in the morning I will need those figures.” Alan-Michael was working from his suite at The Beacon. “Messenger them over to me at Towers, I’ll be having breakfast with Charles Grant and my father.” He listened as she spoke, “Yes Phillip will be there as well.”

Lucy stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom. She was wearing hardly anything, red-laced lingerie that A-M had bought her before they left Europe. As she appeared in the doorway her husband ended his conversation with his secretary.

“Oh Mr. Spaulding,” Lucy softly whispered in a seductive manner as she made her way across the room. “You know there’s an old saying about all work and no play.”

Lucy ran her hands down A-M’s chest and kissed his neck, “You know watching Marina get ready for prom and then seeing how happy she was with Ben made me realize something.”

    “Oh?”

“Mm-hhmm. It made me realize how much I love you. And it made me miss how things where with us in Europe.” She loosened his tie, “You do remember how things where in Europe don’t you?”

“You’re certainly helping to job my memory.” He sighed heavily. “And if you could just hold that thought for another half-hour so that I can finish this paperwork that would be amazing.”

Lucy stopped what she was doing and questioned, “You want me to wait? Alan-Michael look at me, turn around and look at me!” She announced, “Do I look like I want to wait for you?”

    “Lucy…”

“You promised me that when we came back here, after you forced me to come back here, nonetheless that things would not change.”

“They haven’t.” He defended as she grabbed a robe.

“How would you know Alan-Michael? You spend every waking hour either at Spaulding Enterprises or on the phone with Ava talking about that damn Cedars project. And then when you finally do decide to come home, and I use that term loosely because take a look around you this is not a home…you’re going over numbers and figures and contracts.”

“You know that I take my work very seriously.”

“You’re work? Please let’s call your work what it really is and that is an attempt to prove yourself to Alan,” she screamed as she headed towards the bathroom.

    “Where are you going?”

“Harley’s,” Lucy announced. “Let me tell you something,” she stopped and spun around, “if you for one second think that I am going to take a back seat and let Spaulding Enterprises become your number one priority then darling your are horribly mistaken. Do you understand me?”

    “This is my career.”

“And I’m your wife, you know I never thought I would have to remind you of that, but clearly I do,” Lucy slammed the door leaving A-M alone with his work!

Prom night for the Class of 2007 has finally arrived! Marina, Shayne, Tammy and Lizzie have spent the entire day racing around Springfield getting their hair done, nails painted and in some cases finding a new pair of high heel shoes that didn’t pinch their toes.

At the Lewis home Shayne is in his room hopelessly trying to get in touch with Derek. He has sent several text messages and voice mail message throughout the day.

“Joshua Shayne Lewis!” Reva calls from the foot of the stairs. “I know you have a clock up there in that room of yours, Cassie has called twice already let’s hussle!”

Shayne paced the floor by his bed he still had to finish dressing and do something with his hair. “Derek it’s me again, yes I know that I’ve left you like four messages today and I know what we talked about but it’s prom night and I just thought I would be able to see you for a couple of minutes at least. Call me.”

After about fifteen more minutes of waiting and two more calls from his aunt, Shayne appeared in the Lewis family living room. Reva marvels for a moment at how much he reminds her of Dylan, Rusty and Hawk. She tears up and quickly thinks back to her San Cristobel trip and Jonathan. Reva reminds herself mentally that tonight is about Shayne and the two head out for the farmhouse.

In the car, Reva and Shayne catch up for the first time since she returned. He tells her the news that he was named Valedictorian, his acceptance to Springfield University and Reva questions why he is going to prom with Tammy and not some other girl in school. Shayne tells her that he wanted tonight to be special in a different way, that he wants to look back twenty years from now and remember that he took someone that meant something to him. Shayne tells his Mom that he and Tammy have become close since Richard’s death and can’t imagine this night without her. Reva marvels at what a wonderful young man Shayne has grown into!

Later, the Lewis/Winslow family gather together for pictures. Cassie and Reva share a special moment as they watch their kids go off to prom together and they note this is the beginning of what will be the end of their childhood!

The boarding house at Company has been transformed into Marina beauty headquarters as Lucy and Harley work to help her get ready for her big night! As Marina is coming out of the shower her aunts prepare her for a big surprise. When Marina opens the door to her room she is stunned to see her mother, Eleni (Andros) Cooper in Springfield! Marina is speechless.

“Did you really expect me to miss this?” Eleni questioned.

“It’s just that I didn’t think you were coming till later in the week, closer to graduation night.” Marina explained as she looked across the room at Harley, “Should I thank you for this?”

“Harley would have been the innocent one here if you had told me it was your prom night.” Eleni stroked Marina’s hair. “My daughter,” she smiled, “do you know how beautiful you are?”

“Mom!” Marina blushed. “So you’re going to be here all week?”

“Of course. Buzz was gracious enough to offer me an empty room and you know who I can’t wait to meet.” Eleni replied. “This Ben you rave about every time the two of us talk.”

Harley and Lucy take their leave as Eleni helps Marina get ready for the prom.

The Raines women are at the Spaulding mansion, a letter from Cedars labeled “SPAULDING” rests on top of Beth’s dresser, untouched and unopened. Beth and Lillian are waiting for Lizzie to emerge from the bathroom where she was “fixing” the mess the hairdresser made.

“Ed told you to stay another night, it’s just that I wish you would have listened to him is all.” Lilian sighed. “I just don’t think you understand the severity of your accident is all.”

“Lillian…” Alexandra entered the room, “darling I can hear you halfway down the hall. We promised Lizzie that we would make tonight about her and her alone.”

“Thank you Alexandra.” Beth smiled, “You should listen to her.”

Lizzie appeared from the bathroom wearing a stunning yellow gown that flowed when she walked! Each of the women in her life smiled and complimented her on how gorgeous she looked tonight. After meeting Austin Hollingsworth and seeing the couple off to the prom, Phillip and Alan left the mansion to go back to the office, Olivia tended to baby Hannah, Alexandra left the mansion and Lillian took her daughter back upstairs to rest!

The teens are enjoying themselves at the prom, dancing, laughing and having a great time, everyone that is but Lizzie who is segregated from her core group of friends and setting with the jocks of the school. After awhile she convinces Austin to go sit with her friends and she begins to open up much more and have a good time! Marina toasts to a wonderful night, good friends, surviving high school and an amazing boyfriend! After the toast, she drags Lizzie and Tammy out on the dance floor, leaving Ben, Shayne and Austin alone. Shayne’s phone starts ringing and he’s excited to see that Derek is calling and he leaves to go find a more quiet place…Ben goes to get some more punch and feels an incredible pain in his lower stomach, he goes to the bathroom…as the girls return.

The Senior class president prepares to name the Prom King and Queen, Lizzie insists that Austin run and find Shayne for her since he knows where he took off to. Austin goes to the lobby and see Shayne with Derek in a corner, almost hiding. Austin watches from the elevator as Derek and Shayne kiss…disgusted Austin returns and tells Lizzie he couldn’t find Shayne! The moment has arrived, Austin thinking he is about become Prom King mentally prepares himself for the dance he’s sure to be sharing with Lizzie. The class president announces: Shayne Lewis as Prom King, only angering Austin even more, as Lizzie is named Prom Queen. Austin is forced to watch his date dance with Shayne causing his blood to boil…as they share their dance Ben is alone in the men’s rest room when he suddenly realizes something is not right!

Up in one of the master suites of the Spaulding mansion, Lillian declines Beth’s offer to spend the night and insists that Beth get to bed and rest! She begins to turn down the covers as Beth changes clothes in the closet.

“Ed gave you some sleeping pills you should take one. I know I said you should rest but sleep will be better.” Lillian suggested as she sat the bottle next to the unopened letter. “Honey what is this letter?”

Appearing from the closet, “What letter?”

“It was sitting here on your dresser.” Lillian turned it over and examined the back. “There’s no name on it, other than Spaulding.” Beth heads back to the closet to finish dressing. “Should I open it? Do you care Beth?”

    “No, not at all.”

Lillian slid her finger under the flap and unfolded the letter inside. She quickly read through it and recognized what it was. She stands there frozen in shock! “Beth?!”

“What was it? More notes from Ed? Let me guess, plenty of rest, fluids and no driving for what a week, two weeks?” Beth laughed. “Momma?”

“This wasn’t for you. Silly us, you’re not the only Spaulding in this house, it was for, um…Olivia.”

Beth shook her head slowly, “Olivia? You’re lying Momma and I know when you’re lying, just like you know when I’m lying. Give me the paper.”

“I’m not lying Beth it wasn’t for you.” Lillian said sternly.

    “Beth…”

“Don’t patronize, don’t you dare.” With tears in her eyes she looked at Lillian, “Go home and leave that to my husband.”

“Leave what to me?” Phillip questioned from the doorway. “What’s going on?”

“Funny I was just about to ask you the same damn thing?” Beth announced!

VETERAN ACTRESS RETURNS FOR LIMITED RUN
PLUS: One Actress Leaves Soap

Tulsa, OK – (July 7, 2007) - "It came down to the wire," says "The Guiding Light" executive producer Josh Hawkins when speaking about the return of Melina Kanakaredes who portrayed Eleni Andros Cooper from 1991-1995 on the CBS version of the soap.

"We considered both Jennifer Roswell (who portrayed the character after Kanakaredes left) and Kanakaredes but felt for the limited run it would be more rewarding to see Melina back." Hawkins continued. So what brings Eleni back to Springfield? "Marina of course!" Co-Head Writer Dan Gobble confirms. Graduation and prom (TGL is still on May time) is right around the corner and since we are in a position to bring back the characters who should be here it was just a matter of timing before Eleni came home, Gobble went on to explain.

So how long is Kanakaredes who currently stars on the CBS crime-drama hit "CSI: New York" sticking around the blog? "We were able to keep Melina for at least three episodes, possibly four." Hawkins stated. There will be pre-prom, graduation and then she'll be sharing some very heartwarming scenes with Justin Deas (Buzz) and Frank Dicopoulos (Frank). Could those heartwarming scenes with Frank be a sign of things to come? "Josh and I would love nothing more to bring Eleni back full-time but this is just a visit, there is no room at the inn!" Laughs Gobble.

And no room at the inn is the problem, as Pamela Reed (Sandra) exits the canvas very quietly. "I take full responsiblity for this story and it not being told to full capacity." Said Hawkins. Reed who starred as Gail Green on "Jericho" last season was brought on as the mysterious Sandra in November 2006. "I had a story in place when I brought the character to the canvas, but when Dan joined the writing team things changed!"

Hawkins goes on to say that Reed was supposed to be a Maureen Bauer look-a-like that would cause a rift between Ed and Holly but as history would have it, it was Holly's ex Roger that caused that rift. "The thing is that the actress is gone, the character won't be seen but she'll be mentioned as storyline requires, she is after all Braxton's mother."

Braxton who is represented by Jason Shane Scott is beginning worked into the teen canvas as the love interest for Spaulding princess and SONBC Award Winning Younger Female Character Lizzie Spaulding (Marcy Rylan.)

There however, won't be any dramatic exit for Reed or Sandra O'Dell but her story is not over quite yet. "Reed has agreed to return as Sandra in November or December for a dramatic storyline twist that will rock Springfield." Teased Hawkins.

Look for Melina Kanakaredes to appear in Episode 76, 78, 79 and possibly the 80th episode of the blog.

At Cedars, both Olivia Spencer-Spaulding and Beth Spaulding are waking from their slumber. Lillian has made a vigil at Beth’s bedside, her head resting on a small portion of the free bed she feels Beth move her leg.

“Beth?” Lillian manages to speak half asleep. “Oh Beth!” She exclaims. “You gave me quite a scare.” She softly wiped her daughter’s forehead.

With her eyes closed Beth spoke in a broken voice. “What happened?”

“You don’t remember?” Lillian kissed Beth’s hand. “You had a car accident during the rainstorm. Someone found you…”

    “Is Phillip here?”

    And Now "The Guiding Light"

Josh and Billy are at the Lewis Construction offices going over their Cedars proposal. Both are deep in thought having worked on this proposal for months. There was just no way that the hospital could possibly give a job of this magnitude to Spaulding Enterprises.

    “What?” Josh questioned.

“I didn’t say anything.” Billy responded.

“I’m aware of that, but you have that look on you face.”

    “What look?”

“Like you forgot to do something important and you're thinking of a way to not tell your little brother.” Wanda said as she passed through the office. “Bill said he needs to talk to you when you get a free minute.”

Billy rolled his eyes as Wanda went back to her desk. “She’s right though.” Josh told him. “Do you think there’s a problem with the presentation?”

“Not one that we can fix this late in the game. Besides what do we really have to worry about?
Alan-Michael is the point man for this project and we both know how long he’s been out of commission. We’re fine.”

“I guess you’re right.” Josh reached for his umbrella.

    “Where you headed off to?”

“The airport,” Josh told him, “Reva…my missing in action wife has decided to return home for what is going to be a week of pictures and tears.”

    “Shayne excited about the prom?”

“I think it’s more like he’s ready for it to be over. He’s not like you and I were back in our day, he’s much more grounded, mature.”

“That’s because you raised a fine boy.”

“Speaking of which.” Josh gestured towards the door. “Come on in Bill.”

“Uncle Josh. Dad, do you have a free minute? There’s something I need to run by you.”

“Sure. Sure, come on in.” Billy moved some papers from one of the chairs. “Josh you give Reva my love all right?”

“I will. See you guys tomorrow.”

The men said there farewells and Bill took a seat. Bill took the time to give his father a lecture about proper funeral etiquette: you do not bring a gun and shot the coffin of the deceased, even if they did deserve it.

“Something tells me there’s another reason you’re here.” Billy informed his son. “What’s on your mind boy?”

“Someone’s here. Let me call you back. Okay, bye.” Derek hung up the phone and opened the door to find Shayne standing there.

“It’s about time.” Shayne told him. “I was just about to leave you a note. Can I come in?”

“Yeah, of course. So your text message said that you had some exciting news about something or another.”

“Guess who you are looking at?” Shayne struck a model pose for a split second and then burst into laughter.

“I don’t know, a bad Vanna White impression, I’m guessing.”

“Um no…” he replied in a sad voice, “the Valedictorian of the Springfield High School graduating class of 2007!”

“That’s awesome, congratulations.” Derek went into to kiss Shayne but he quickly pulled away turning the joyous moment into something opposite.

    “What’s wrong?”

“What do you mean?” Shayne asked.

“Don’t play the question-answer game with me. You know what I mean, I just tried to kiss you and you pulled away. And it’s not the first time it’s happened Shayne.”

    “I know. I don’t know what to say. Derek…”

“You’ve been acting this way ever since that night on the docks by the lake. You seemed so excited, so happy to see me and then all of sudden something changed and you’re pulling away from me when I try to kiss you. What’s up Shayne?”

“This? I have my sources. But wouldn’t The Mirror love this headline: Talk show Host’s Son Gay! And of all people Reva. What delicious irony. I hope you both don’t have the same taste in men.”

Shayne knew all to well exactly what Derek was talking about and it worried him. He wanted this year to be over already and it only had just begun. Shayne tried to convince himself that things would be better after graduation, after prom and after the Cedars project was locked up.

“I just think at times that we’re moving to fast.” Shayne lied. “You have a lot more experience than I do and sometimes I feel like we’re going ninety to nothing.”

“I never thought about that. I’m sorry if you feel that way.”

“And this…” Shayne began, “you apologizing for being you, this is not what I wanted. Damnit! I hate this Derek, you have to know that.”

“I had a meeting with Ross the other day in regards to if the baby is mine.” Bill explained

“That’s smart, to work out a custody arrangement.” Billy replied. “How is little Michelle doing?”

“For starters she’s not little, she’s past her due date and running the birth of what could be my child like the Bauer BBQ.”

“Ouch. So this meeting with Ross what was it about?”

“Right after the baby is born we’re going to have a DNA test ran to see who the father is. And if it’s me, I’m going to sue Michelle for full custody.”

Billy took a minute and let the words sink in. “That’s a big step Bill. Are you sure about this?”

“I’m hundred percent sure and please don’t try and talk me out of it, Ross already did.”

“Okay, okay I won’t. I just can’t imagine that Ross agreed to represent you.”

“He didn’t. That’s one of the reasons I’m telling you all of this, he recommend an attorney in Oakdale and I have a meeting with her in a couple of days.”

“If this is what you want Bill then I’ll stand by you but maybe you try to work something out with Michelle. The two of you have been friends since you were knee high to a grasshopper. I would hate to see this friendship ruined over all of this.”

“All of this? Dad do you hear yourself? You are talking about what could possibly by your grandchild. Michelle kept this from me and if Mom hadn’t found out she was pregnant there is a chance Michelle never would have told me she was pregnant.”

“Believe me I understand and like I said I support you a hundred percent. Whatever you decide and I’m sure your mother will feel the same way.”

“So you don’t think this is a bad idea?”

“You want to make a point and to me that’s never a bad idea Bill. I just think that there are ways that you could go about doing the same thing without trying to take the baby away from it’s mother.”

Bill rubbed his forehead and shook his head. “Why don’t you go back to your loft, think about it a little more before making in rash decisions. Call Vanessa, call Mindy talk to them about it and see what they think. We’ll all support you no matter what, we just want what’s best for you?”

Bill stood up. “When did you become so smart?”

“Boy it beats the hell out of me.” Billy laughed!

They both took a minute to think before speaking again. “I know that you and I have something, a connection and it’s one that I’ve never had with anyone else. But so many things, great things are happening for you right now, graduation, prom and this summer is going to be huge for you.”

“I’ve never done this before. You knew this when we began…whatever this is.”

“The thing is Shayne I don’t think we know what this is yet and we need to take a step back.”

“So that’s what we’re doing, taking a break? Because standing here right now it feels like something more concrete, more permanent than a break.”

“I don’t want you to feel like that Shayne…”

“Well then how the hell do you want me to feel?” He fired back only to get a silent response. “Answer the damn question Derek. You came to Springfield, you pursued me and now all of a sudden you think we’re in to deep? Maybe this is what taking a break is like, I don’t know. I haven’t done it enough to know but I’ve seen Marah do it, Tammy and Lizzie.” Shayne grabbed his bag from the chair by the door. “Derek?”

“We are taking a break. I haven’t ever lied to you about who I was, you know that I’ve been with other guys before. I fall hard and fall fast Shayne and usually after four months, six months it’s over and I move on. It’s who I am, but with you…” Derek smiled, “with you there it’s so easy to just be me and that scares me.”

Derek took Shayne’s hand in his. “I want this to work. I don’t want you to be one of those guys I ditched after four months so you’re just going to have to give me some time. And it’s time that you need too.”

“So you and I we’re not over?”

Derek shook his head. “No. We just need our space with one another, we have all the time in the world Shayne to progress this relationship.” He shook his head in agreement. “So we’re okay?”

“Yeah.” Shayne answered shyly. “So, can I get a not-so-farewell-non-break-up kiss before I leave?”

Their lips locked for what seemed like hours, but only mere seconds. Shayne blew out of the apartment almost as quickly as he had entered. Derek raced for his cell phone.

“What took you so long?” A male voice answered, not even a hello.

“I told you it was the landlord. He had to check the air conditioning unit and some other things around the place.” Derek sat down on his bed and a worried looked wiped over his face. “So when did you say you were coming to town Dad?”

“The end of next week.” Trevor Bowden answered. “Is that a problem?”

“Problem?” Derek replied. “Why would it be a problem, unless you haven’t told Mom you were coming.”

“Well you just leave her to me, I’ll deal with you mother.”

“I’ve been trying to call him all night. There’s probably something wrong with his phone, the whole town has been in shambles after the storm.” Lillian explained. “Beth you had severe internal bleeding…” her eyes filled with tears as she thought back, “Ed said you flat-lined on the table at least twice. You have to understand how lucky you are.”

“I need Phillip…” Beth also began to tear up. “Find my husband please.”

Lillian kissed Beth on the cheek and quickly left the room, in the doorway she spoke. “I almost love you Beth and that scared me to death.”

“I promise it won’t happen again.” She replied from her bed. “I love you far too much to leave you.”

“So it wasn’t a dream.” Olivia smiled. “You’re really here aren’t you?”

“Did you think I would leave you?”

“I just figured you would call Alan and then go back to be with Beth.” Olivia turned her head away from him. “Is the baby okay?”

“She’s healthy, strong and just as beautiful as her mother.” Phillip touched her chin and turned her head back towards him. “You asked me a question at the mansion before all hell broke lose. Do you remember what it was?”

“Do I remember?” Olivia retorted. “Phillip how could I have forgotten.” She paused and touched his hand. “Did you make a decision?”

Phillip ran his fingers through his hair. He was tired and hadn’t slept in what felt like hours. “That’s all I’ve thought about, all night. Sitting with you, watching you sleep, seeing your baby girl. And Beth…”

    “Beth’s here?”

Phillip nodded his head. “She was in a car accident. No one even knows that I’m here or that I even know.”

“You should go to her Phillip.” Olivia told him. “I’m not your problem. She’s your wife, not me.”

“I stood in the doorway of your room and her room watching you both sleep and I realized something. God, I don’t know it has happened again but I’ve allowed myself to fall in love with two very different women. I have feelings for Beth that’s a given considering our history, but Olivia there’s something that pulls me back to you everytime I see your smiling face or hear your name.”

“And I feel the same way. I care for you very much, but the simple fact of the matter is this Phillip at any minute my husband, your father is going to come through that door I have to tell him what’s going on and I don’t even know.” Olivia paused. “The baby and I though, we’re a package deal so you need to decide. Pick me or pick Beth but I need to know, now Phillip.”

“I’ve never been good with ultimatums.” He told her.

“Well, I’m sorry. I don’t really know what to tell you. I competed with Reva for Josh’s love and when I escaped that I promised myself I wouldn’t do anything like that again. I can’t, not now I have to think about my child now.”

“The last thing I want to do is put you in a position like that again Olivia.” Phillip told her. “I had Rick run a DNA test late last night on the baby. We won’t have to play games to be together Olivia.” He smiled.

    “What do you mean?”

In the corridor of Cedars a woman in black high heels walked down the hallway toward Olivia’s room.

Olivia smiled and choked back her own tears of joy. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying? Phillip…Phillip answer me. Are you saying that my daughter is your daughter?”

Phillip shook his head. “She is.” He said as their lips suddenly met and the door pushed opened. Standing there watching, unnoticed was none other than Alexandra!

    "MELROSE STAR" Sees the "LIGHT"

STILLWATER, OK - After an exhausting search that spanned months, "THE GUIDING LIGHT" is pleased to announce that "Melrose Place" original cast member Grant Show is joining the soap.

"We had so many wonderful actors test for the role including Jack Wagoner, Dean Cain and Peter Bergman." Shared executive producer Josh Hawkins. "However it was Show who won us over."

At press time a first official airdate had yet to be announced for Show even though he has already been written into episode outlines. His first episode is 073, Hawkins went on to confirm however the exact airdate was not certain.

"We don't want to spoil the audience on who Show's character will be sharing his first scenes with but we will confirm on down the road how he will be introduced to one of Springfield's leading ladies." Says co-head writer Dan Gobble. Hope Bauer sat with her hands wrapped tightly around a mug of coffee.

“Good morning.” Michelle broke the calm silence. “Do you need a refill?”

“No, thank you. How are you feeling?” She replied.

“This little one kept me up all night long kicking.” The women left. “I passed Uncle Mike in the hallway is he leaving this morning?”

“Unfortunately yes. Your father tried to convince him to stay longer and Lord knows that I did as well. He’s only been here a week and barely had any time to visit with Alan-Michael.”

“No don’t you start harping on that girl about your woes.” Mike Bauer announced. “I spent plenty of time here and I’m not the one who needs the quality time with Alan-Michael.”

“I know.” Hope sat her mug down. “Would you just at least reconsider and let me take you to the airport?”

“I’ve already called the taxi.” Mike told her. “You have more important things to do then take care of me. You’ve been doing it long enough and we had an agreement Hope.”

“Daddy…” Hope attempted to reason but was interrupted by Ed.

“He’ll be fine. It’s been over three years since his heart attack Hope.”

“Uncle Ed, not just six months ago you were telling me how he needs to eat healthier and exercise more. Why the sudden change?”

“Hope…” Mike led her by the arm to the corner of the kitchen. “I’m fine, healthier than I’ve ever been in years. You’ve put your life on hold for me far to long.”

    “Daddy…”

“Don’t you daddy me little girl. I appreciate everything you’ve done, everything. But playing nursemaid, that’s over. You have a lot of catching up to do and you’ve put off this meeting with Charles Grant one to many times.”

    “I worry about you.”

“And that worry does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. I’ll be fine.” He took her in his arms and kissed her cheek. “You have quite a few opportunities here in Springfield, don’t waste them on me.”

“Okay. But you’ll call me once a day and remember to take your pills.” She kissed his cheek. “Scoot…go on get out of here before I change my mind. I love you daddy.”

“I love you too.” Mike told her. “Michelle you take care of those babies. You hear me?”

“You know I will Uncle Mike.” She replied from across the kitchen. “Have a good flight.”

“I don’t want you to be a stranger Mike.” Ed told him once outside. “You need to come home every once in a great while you know.”

Mike shook his head. “Well with Hope here I don’t see how I can stay away. I was gone for far to long and I’ll try not to let it happen again.” The men stood silent for a moment and Mike interjected. “Thanksgiving.”

    “I’m sorry?”

“I’ll come in for Thanksgiving and stay right up to New Year’s Day. We could have a dinner like momma used to cook, remember those?”

“Yeah.” Ed kicked the gravel with his foot.

“I always know hen you’re thinking about something so out with it.”

    “It’s Holly…”

“She still hasn’t come around to you yet?”

Ed shook his head no. “And I don’t think she will anytime soon. Something’s changed with her Mike. She was so zoned out the other night on those railroad tracks and I honestly believe if I hadn’t been there she would have gone through with whatever she was doing.”

“Something has changed for her, Roger’s dead and whether you or I like it he had this control, this mesmerizing power over her. Give her time brother, she’ll come around soon enough.”

The taxi pulled up and the two men loaded Mike’s bags into the trunk. “You’ll call when you land?”

“Of course.” Mike hugged Ed and opened the backdoor of the cab. “Speaking of Roger, have you read his letter yet?”

    Ed shook his head, “No.”

    “How come?”

“I don’t know, maybe I’m afraid of what he has to say.”

“He’s dead Ed, remember that, okay. He can’t hurt you anymore.” Mike told him, “Springfield International. Take brother.”

“Tammy. Shayne.” The English teacher announced. “Principal Atwood has requested to see you a few minutes before class ended, why don’t you head down that way.”

Tammy cut her eyes across the room at her cousin. “Is something the matter?”

“I’m not sure what exactly he’s wanting Ms. Winslow.” She handed them a hall pass.

“So she doesn’t have any ideas…what about you?” Shayne asked as they headed down the deserted hallway. “Maybe he has some news about D.C.?”

“You think?” Tammy squinted her eyebrows. “I hope not, not yet anyway. That would mean I have to tell my mother and she’s going to flip out!”

“Are you seriously trying to upstage me?” Shayne laughed. “I’m the only one who is allowed to drop the unforeseen bombshell that will destroy lives this summer. God Tammy, you always try to make things about you.”

“Shut up!” Tammy gave him a nudge. “You don’t think that has anything to do with you…” she looked around, “you know…”

“Being gay?” Shayne whispered. “I really don’t know why it would. It isn’t like I’ve been secretly sneaking peeks at the baseball team.”

“Oh shut up!” Tammy knocked and went on in. “Principal Atwood we were told you wanted to see us?”

“I did in fact. Please both of you sit down.” He offered them a chair, “As you very well know the prom is at the end of the week and that is only to be followed by graduation.” Both of them smiled. “Two weeks left of your high school education how does that feel?”

“Like a weight being lifted off my shoulders.” Shayne answered. “Does this meeting have to do with our college applications?”

“In a way yes. The staff and I have been tabulating and reviewing academic records for all the students in the senior class and I am very pleased to say we’ve come to a academic decision.”

“In…I don’t know, teenage terms.” Tammy replied.

“Congratulations to you both, Tammy your GPA has qualified you as the Salutatorian of the senior class.”

“Oh my God!” Tammy smiled, “Are you sure?”

“Very sure. And congratulations to you Mr. Lewis you’ve qualified to serve as the Valedictorian.”

“You’re sure?” Shayne questioned. “Positive because it wouldn’t be nice to you know yank our chains here.”

The principal laughed under his breath. “We’re very sure. The faculty and I spent many hours combing through your grades since your freshmen year, it was very close.”

Tammy reached out for Shayne’s hand and squeezed it. “You both deserve this, very much. Congratulations again.”

“Thanks.” Tammy replied, “Was there something else you needed?”

“Prom is right around the corner have the two of you purchased your tickets yet?”

They both shook their heads. “No.” Shayne replied. “Actually I’m not sure if I’ll even be going.”

“I can’t believe your dad and Buzz caught you with Ben at the Bauer cabin.” Lizzie laughed.

“Thanks Liz. Go ahead and laugh it up now just remember that karma has a way of paying people back.”

“Right. Listen Shayne and I were talking this morning on the way back from campus and he told me you had a birthday. Both of us were just devastated that we missed your birthday.”

“Not completely your fault. Mother nature played a big part in the ordeal.”

“Still none the less, we missed your birthday and I for one feel terrible.” Lizzie looked in her bag for something. “Why don’t you come with Tammy and me tomorrow night downtown, we have a final dress fitting.”

“You think Shayne will go for that. Dress fittings and all?”

“He can meet us at the restaurant or something. Just not Company and not Towers, I don’t ever want to ride an elevator there again.”

    “Bad night huh?”

“You have no idea.” Lizzie laughed. “Is Ben excited about prom?”

“As much as a guy can be. I think he’s just hoping that my dad and grandpa don’t chaperone if you get my drift.” They laughed. “What about you? Braxton got his tux and everything?”

Lizzie shook his head. “Atwood’s won’t let him go, he’s to old.”

“Sucks.” Marina replied. “So what are you going to do? Shayne doesn’t have a date yet.”

“Oh I have a date.” She leaned in. “Austin Hollingsworth.”

“Really?” Marin teased. “Well that’s exciting.”

“I guess so. I just hope that he doesn’t get the wrong idea about the whole night.”

“What was that back there?” Tammy asked as they headed to their next class.

“Um…I’m not sure what you mean.”

“Oh I think you do Shayne, I’m not your sister so how about not playing games with me. Principal Atwood mentioned prom and you said you weren’t sure you were going.”

“I just don’t know if I want to go. Lizzie will be there with some guy, Marina will be with Ben and I am certain that you have a long line of potential date candidates.”

“Hardly, the best offer so far has been from that guy Austin Hollingsworth or something like that, the football jock.”

“He’s cute.” Shayne whispered. “Go with him.”

Tammy rolled her eyes. “If you’re not going then I am for sure not going to go.”

He stopped mid-step. “We are not going to play that game Tammy Nicole.” Shayne lectured. “I didn’t come out to you so that you would have built up sympathy for me and put your own life on hold.”

“And you honestly think that is what I am doing?”

“It seems like it is. So how about you convince me it’s not.”

Tammy led Shayne over to bench in the hallway. “Since Richard died you’ve become my one person to lean on. No matter what ugly words our mother’s hurled at one another you and I stood strong. Shayne you are so much more than just a cousin, you are my best friend. I want to spend as much time together with you before…”

    “Before you leave?”

“Let’s not fight about that on top of this. One fight at a time boy!” Tammy lightly punched him in the arm. “So…”

    “So?”

“Will you by my prom date cuz?”

Shayne shook his head and rolled his eyes. “Oh! Yes…I’ll be your prom date.”

“Bill how are you?” Ross sat down in a booth at the back of Company. “I was surprised to see you on my schedule.”

“Sorry about that, it was just a last minute decision.” Bill explained. “How’s Holly and Blake?”

“They’re both doing as well as can be expected.”

“I just want to apologize again for Dad’s actions. It was completely out of line and uncalled for. Would you please pass that along to them?”

Ross shook his head. “Of course. So what’s on your mind?”

“I’m sure Ed’s told you about the situation with Michelle and Danny.” Ross shook his head again. “And Ross I know that you and Ed have been friends for a very long and I respect that so if you don’t want to take this case I’ll understand.”

“Bill you need to back up and tell me what case we’re talking about here.”

“Once Michelle delivers the baby there’s going to be a DNA test done if the baby is mine then I want to immediately sue Michelle for full custody.”

“Bill…” Ross spoke slowly. “Do you really think that is going to be the best idea? I mean have you thought this through completely, rationally. Bill you would be taking a newborn baby from his mother and need I remind you of who his mother is. One of your oldest and dearest friends.”

“I know who Michelle is Ross, trust me. But she is also the woman who lied to both Danny and I, left town when she found out she was pregnant and kept that from the both of us. Had my mother not found out she was having a baby she might not have ever told me.”

“I know how you feel Bill but I don’t think suing Michelle is going to solve any of your problems. I would strongly advice against it.”

“Okay. Ross I respect you and your loyalty to Michelle and Ed. But this is something that I feel strongly about and if you won’t help me then at least point me in the direction of someone who will.”

“So there won’t be any talking you out of this?”

    “Afraid not.”

Ross reached in his briefcase and then scribbled down a name. “Tell her I referred you and I’m sure she’ll be more than glad to help you.”

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER FEMALE CHARACTERWINNER: LIZZIE SPAULDING (MARCY RYLAN)

    Episode 028

Lizzie’s reflection stared back at her almost mockingly as she just stood there. For the first time in a very long while, the spoiler Spaulding heiress felt completely helpless and alone.

She closed her eyes, took a deep troubled breath and put her other earring in as her cell phone began to ring on her bed.

“Shayne.” She said without any emotion, “Hello.”

“Liz?” His sturdy voice spoke back, “Lizzie is that you?”

    “Uh-huh…yeah Shayne, it’s me.”

    “You holding up okay?”

She shook her head no but answered something completely different, “Of course…best as can be expected, right?” Her eyes closed quickly and tightly. “Are…um, you guys…are you all going to be at the service?”

“Of course. We wouldn’t be anywhere else.” Shayne replied, “Listen why don’t Marina, Tammy and I come over after school today…”

Lizzie had stopped even listening after his first two words and stared out the window, “Shayne I need to go, I’ll call you later.” She tossed her phone to the foot of the bed, tears streamed down her face, she trembled, sobbed and cursed aloud, “Damnit!”

In the doorway a small yet powerful voice spoke, “Daddy’s going to wash your mouth out if he hears you.”

“James!” Lizzie answered completely caught off guard, “What are you up to buddy? Huh?” She asked as she wiped her face, “Come over here and sit down next to me.”

“Why did you say that bad word?” The toddler asked, “Is it because you’re upset like Mommy too?”

Lizzie shook her head, “Yeah.” She wrapped her arms around her little brother, “Did you see Mommy this morning?”

“No. Lizzie, mommy wouldn’t answer the door.”

“She probably slept with Nana.” Lizzie tried to explain, “You see Mommy hasn’t been feeling good lately and you know when we feel bad how we just want Mom, it’s like that with Nana.”

James shook his head, “But why is Aunt Alex crying?” He paused tears formed in Lizzie’s eyes, “Is it because Daddy’s not home yet?”

Suddenly Lizzie the wind was knocked out of her and she clutched her stomach. Through her own tears now she pulled James close to her. In a hushed whisper she spoke, “Yeah baby, Daddy not being home has a lot to do with it.”

“Well how much longer till he gets here? I want the crying to stop.”

Lizzie picked James up and sat him on her lap. She lightly stroked back his hair on his forehead, much like Phillip used to do. “The things is James…” she spoke softly through tears, “Daddy’s not coming home.”

    “Ever?”

“Ever.” She answered, “You remember when your dog died last year?” James shook his head, “Yeah? Well you know then Lou went to dog heaven,” she wiped her face and asked for guidance under her breath, “the same thing has happened with Dad. But he’s not in dog heaven…he’s in people heaven.”

“What’s the difference?” James asked with the an emotionless face, “Lizzie??”

“Well…” she searched for the right words, “in dog heaven the dogs get to run around, eat treats and bark whenever they want, they just enjoy life. But you see in people heaven they have jobs. And do you know what Daddy’s job is?”

    James shook his head.

“Daddy has an exciting new job and it’s very important. You know you could almost think of him as a superhero of sorts.”

    “Really?” James asked, “Like Superman?”

“Kind of yeah. Daddy’s in Heaven and he’s like our own personal superhero angel.” Lizzie’s eyes filled, “And when you start missing him then you just look up and talk, because he’s with us, always.”

James reached up and wiped Lizzie’s cheek, “Like a guardian angel?”

She kissed his hand, “Exactly. Exactly.”

OUTSTANDING LEADING MALE CHARACTERWINNER: ROBERT NEWMAN (JOSH LEWIS)

    Episode 023

Marah returns home, where she sees Josh sitting on the sofa waiting for her. She walks over and hugs him.

“Marah, you don’t have any bags. Aren’t you ready to move back into the house yet?”

“No I’m not ready yet,” Marah responds.

“When are you going to be ready? Listen, I know that Tony’s death was hard on you. I understand that. But your mother did not mean for him to die. She knew home much you loved him. You need to find it in your heart to forgive her so that we can all move on with our lives just like Danny is trying to do,” Josh reasons.

With this, Marah moves to the defensive.

“Dad, Danny is not moving forward. He is stuck in a rut and can’t get out of it. He feels guilty and angry because mom killed his cousin.”

Reva walks to the stop of the stairs and eavesdrops on the conversation.

“Marah, didn’t Danny tell you? He’s not pressing charges against your Aunt Roxie for Tony’s death.”

“What?!” Marah exclaims. “So mom walks away clean as a whistle yet again right? She’s a regular Houdini.”

“Marah, your mom didn’t kill Tony…”

“God Dad, open your eyes! When are you going to see mom for what she truly is?”

At this, Reva walks down the stairs and asks, “What do you think I truly am Marah?”

“Reva you should go back upstairs.” Josh warned, “Marah and I are going to have a little talk. She needs to learn some respect when she is in this house.”

    “No daddy, she asked.”

“What do I think you are mom? Well, I think Aunt Roxie summed it all up. You’re a slut, a whore that has led us all along for all these years. Unfortunately, dad has suffered the worst under you little spell. Even now, he loves you so much. You are so stuck in that fountain that you couldn’t handle being a mother. Did you ever have a child that you actually raised yourself? Dylan? Me? Shayne? Jonathan? Nope, that’s all of us. Or is it? With you, there’s really no telling what other children you have hiding in the woodwork. Whenever Reva Shayne gets too domestic, she rides off in search of the next drama. You bring chaos wherever you go. This is just the last straw. God knows just how many people have fallen at the altar of Reva: Annie, Richard, Sonni, Olivia… Tony was just your latest victim!”

    “Marah enough!” Josh warns.

“No Joshua, let her vent,” Reva says.

“Well, I’m so glad I have your permission,” Marah cracks. “Dad, you are no better than she is. You play the victim whenever mother turns another trick, yet you keep yearning for it. You’re like some masochist and this twisted relationship with mom is just a long mutilation. But you don’t do anything but stand there and take it. Why? Are you so far up her dress that you can’t see straight? That makes you just as bad a parent as she is!”

Reva’s temper grows as Marah berates Josh. At the last comment she puts her hands on Marah’s shoulders and slaps her daughter.

“Listen Marah,” Reva sobs. “I know that you are grieving for Tony and I am so sorry that you have to go through that. And I know that in some small way that I am responsible for that. But I never wanted this. I know that I have made more than my fair share of mistakes over the years, but your dad does not deserve this. He has cared for you and loved you even when I was not there for you. So yell and scream or whatever you have to do to settle your anger at me, but I will not allow your father to be dragged into your rant!”

Marah stands still, stunned that Reva would slap her. As she begins to cry, Reva interjects.

“Oh don’t cry Marah. You only got what you asked for.”

Marah’s anger rises to the breaking point. Marah screams, “Go to Hell,” and storms out of the room.

    OUTSTANDING STORYLINE:REVA'S STALKER & TONY'S MURDER

Reva Shayne Lewis took matters into her own hands when her brother-in-law requested her assistance in helping him die. Reva granted Richard’s wishes and he died, causing an enormous between her sister Cassie, a jail sentence and much later an unidentifiable stalker, this is when “THE GUIDING LIGHT” began.

Reva used her position as a talk show host for WSPR to go on air in an attempt to air out her stalker, but he/she had other plans! Before the live “Reva Shayne” show could begin reformed mobster, Tony Santos found a suspicious bag and tossed it down a stairwell just as it exploded. Shaken up by what had just happened, Josh insisted that Tony take Marah and Shayne away from the studio and back their house. The Lewis children went as instructed even though Marah suspected that Tony could be the stalker after she had a stolen Lewis family picture in the lighthouse where he was living. Meanwhile, a mystery woman arrived at Olivia’s Bar where she and Edmund shared their mutual disdain for Reva. During the show Reva and Cassie’s pleaded for the stalker to come clean and confront Reva, instead they went after her children. The stalker called Marah and Shayne used the opportunity to sneak out of the house. At the Beacon, Shayne snuck in the back way in hopes of not being seen where he was attacked just moments after the stalker called WSPR!

Frank, Harley and the entire Springfield Police Department worked at tracing both the WSPR and Marah’s call. They concluded finally that it came from a phone at the Beacon. Cassie ordered that phone logs and security DVDs be pulled and given to the police, meanwhile at the same time Tammy Winslow has returned from the station and finds her cousin Shayne bleeding by the payphone. While viewing the DVDs Frank and Harley see Edmund leaving the bar within seconds of the first phone call to Marah, then a person dressed in a trench coat at the payphone, suddenly turning and seeing Shayne. As he walked off Frank and Harley witness the mysterious figure attacking Shayne!

Following the WSPR live show, Holly Reade who up until this point had been a suspect is cleared because she was at the station when the call came in producing the episode thanks her one-time lover and former son-in-law, Ross Marler for not doubting her innocence. The two embrace in a tender hug that is witnessed by Holly’s daughter and Ross’ ex-wife and current love Blake!

After they gathered enough evidence, Harley and Frank arrested Edmund and charged him as Reva’s stalker. As Josh and Reva raced to Cedars to see how Shayne was doing, Reva vowed that they had to protect their children!”

Even though Edmund had a clear-cut agenda and reason for wishing harm upon Reva he continued to insist that he was innocent of the crime. Luckily for Edmund he had a powerful friend with even more powerful connections: Alexandra Spaulding. She called in a favor from Bay City and Cass Winthrop arrived to assist Edmund with his case. Edmund was denied bail and formally charged, as Reva’s eldest son got on a plane to Springfield from Minnesota. Reva, Josh and Cassie breathed a sigh of relief having thought the stalker was caught, but that all soon changed. Reva discovered in Shayne’s hospital room a vase of black roses with the message, “Dial S for Slut…They’ve got the wrong person.” As Reva and Josh worry that everything is not okay, the mystery person dressed in a trench coat makes a phone call from a payphone inside Cedars to Dr. Mel Bauer. The stalker tells Mel, “You’re on my list…bitch!”

Reva decided to do Edmund a favor and demands that Frank release him, against his wishes, but Reva persists. But before Edmund leaves, he comes face-to-face with her and she issues him a very stern, to the point warning about coming after or near her children. Reva reveals that through Alexandra’s help Edmund now has a job awaiting him in San Cristobel. Reva warns him about going near Marissa or Jonathan. Reva says she’ll be in contact with Alonzo and that she can be far more dangerous than he ever was!

With Dylan Lewis’ arrival in Springfield he was brought up to speed on what is going on with his mother. Reva and Josh revealed to Dylan that they want him to take Marah and Shayne away from Springfield and to Minnesota. Dylan agrees, as Cassie reveals to Tammy that she will also be leaving Springfield and going with Dylan. Josh returns home with Shayne to find Billy, Dylan, Cassie, Tammy and Reva awaiting their return. Shortly after Marah and Tony arrive. Reva announces that Edmund was not the person that they were looking for and that her stalker is still out there somewhere and while she appreciates Tony’s help in protecting Marah and Shayne they have decided it would be in the best interest of the children if they left Springfield with Dylan and Billy. Shayne inquires as to where they are going and Josh explains that they will go to Minnesota until the stalker is caught once and for all. Marah is very angry that her mother would just send her away and despite trying to calm her down, she runs out of the house and speeds away. Devastated that she is putting her family through this Reva goes off and breaks down. Shayne goes after her and assures her that everything will be fine and that Marah will come around and see that leaving Springfield right now is for the best. Marah goes to the lighthouse and gets on the computer where she begins looking for plane tickets to Paris. She thinks that this is another ploy her father is using to keep Marah and Tony away from one another, distraught over everything that is going Marah begins to breakdown and realizes that if she wants to protect herself from not only the stalker but Josh and Reva and lead a normal life with Tony then she is going to have to do it her own way, with her own set of rules. She grabs a duffle bag from the closet and begins packing what clothes she has left at the lighthouse and that is when she comes across an envelope with Tony’s name on it. She opens the envelope and out falls pictures, newspaper clippings from the 80s through the present day, one that sticks out in her mind the most is the photograph of Reva and Josh at the country club fountain. The picture was clipped from the society page and the caption reads, “Tulsa bad girl Reva Shayne Lewis baptizes herself the slut of Springfield.” Marah begins to freak out and that is when Tony arrives, which sends her reeling. She asks where he got this information and he is without answers. Marah demands answers and he asks what has her so upset and that is when Marah shows him the note that was left for her at the nurse’s station at Cedars, “The water is warm. Make your mother, the slut proud before it’s too late.” Tony not understanding the connection is confused, Marah tells him that he knew about the Slut of Springfield incident and he sent that letter. Marah becomes uncontrollably angry with him and begin fighting with him. Saying that he’s had access to Reva all this time, he made the calls, broke into the house and probably paid someone to make those other phone calls during the live television show. Marah questions how much Tony had to pay to have Shayne beaten up and put in the hospital. Tony tried to calm Marah down and assure her he is not responsible for any of this, but she will not have any of it and declares that he should leave her alone, she says that he should never come anywhere near her ever again and storms out of the lighthouse. Tony goes after her in an effort to calm her down but Marah, gets ahead of herself and trips down the stairs, bruising herself up, allowing Tony to finally get to her. Scared that he is going to do something to hurt her, Marah tries to get away but is unsuccessful and Tony assures her that he has never seen those articles and knows nothing about the note she received. He tells her he loves her very much and only wants to keep her safe. Reva receives another threatening phone call, clearly a woman’s voice talking about Dylan’s return to Springfield. Unable to trace the call, Frank offers up that Reva should get the children out of Springfield immediately. Josh then calls Marah and reveals another call was made. She tells him she’ll be home soon. Marah tells Tony that Reva received another call and says that she is sorry for doubting him. Marah becomes shaken and unsure of what to do or even say, so she gets up and leaves Tony, without saying another word. Tony is devastated at how the two of them left things. The plane carrying Marah, Tammy and Shayne take off without a problem leaving Reva to wonder what her next move is going to be. Cassie arrives at Reva's and inquires on the kids in Minnesota. Reva tells Cassie that Billy just called and they are settling in all right. Reva tells her that Bridget has taken the girls shopping. Cassie says that they have got to figure a way to lure out Reva's stalker and she thinks she knows exactly how to do it!

Mel is working the ER at Cedars when Judith arrives complaining of chest pains. Mel quickly puts her in an observation room and begins to exam the woman. Judith is very chatty about Mel's life as a doctor and woman, Judith inquires if Mel is married and she says she is to Dr. Rick Bauer. Mel is then called away, leaving Judith alone in the examination room. Lillian comes back and tells Mel that she has both good and bad news, as Judith listens outside the room: Lillian tells Dr. Bauer that she is suffering from fatigue and that it cannot be good for the baby! Mel is shocked to learn that she is pregnant and begs Lillian not to let Rick find out. Lillian agrees! Lillian runs into Mel as she is headed out to lunch and inquires if Mel has had a chance to tell Rick about the baby. Mel tells her that she hasn't and asks Lillian how far along she is. Lillian tells her without looking she believes 6-10 weeks. Mel thanks her and invites her to lunch, Lillian agrees but runs inside to get her purse...leaving Mel alone in the parking garage. Mel goes across the parking garage to bring her car around to meet Lillian when she drops her keys to the ground. From the back of the garage a car comes roaring towards Mel as she is standing up, the car strikes her sending Mel to back to the ground as Lillian returns! Lillian and a team of doctor’s work to stabilize Mel as she drifts into a drug induced coma! Mel has now been in her drug induced coma for two days. Rick is keeping a vigil at her bedside, when Lillian arrives. Out in the waiting room Judith arrives and spies on them. While the Lillian is in with Rick, the nurses station is left unmanned and Judith takes a moment to look through Mel's chart. She quickly learns that Mel was pregnant with Rick's baby and that the hit-and-run caused her to miscarry their baby. A thought that pleases her! Rick steps out of Mel's room for some coffee and Judith quickly steps in. She places what would appear to be a "Get Well" card by Mel's bed and quickly leaves...just as Rick is about to reenter the room. Rick adjusts himself by Mel's bedside and then notices the Get Well card. Rick picks up the Get Well card left by Judith and begins to open it. Rick is opening the "Get Well" card for Mel...Both he and Reva read the same thing at the same time, "“Tonight is the night you both pay for your sins.” Rick begins to worry and calls Lillian into Mel's room...she says she doesn't know what is going on and Rick tells her to call Harley. Back in Springfield...Rick finds himself at Outskirts...where he orders a shot of strong whiskey...the bartender pours him the drink as a woman approaches from behind questioning if Rick really wants to take that drink. Mindy asks Rick again if he really wants to take that drink and he says that it seems like the right thing to do. Mindy tells him to go ahead, drink it...then another, then another and another. Rick asks what she is doing and Mindy says that when Mel wakes up from her coma, she'll want Rick...he has to decide where he wants to be when that happens, by her bedside or slumped over some bar drunk. Rick doesn't say anything and Mindy says that she doesn't want Rick to go down the same path Ed went down...she tells him to make his choice, kisses his cheek and leaves. Rick is left to wonder if he should take the drink or not. Mindy receives a telephone call from her secretary in Paris. She copies the number down and hangs up. Mindy dials the number and Michelle Bauer Santos answers. Rick arrives back at the hospital and goes to see Mel. He tells Mel that he needs her to come back to him, now more than ever because he almost done something that would have sent their lives into a downward spiral...Rick begin to tear up and begs her to come back to him. Rick explains that someone hit her with a car and the doctors put her into a drug related coma so that her body could heal, which apparently it has done. Mel places her hand over her stomach and says she saw the woman who hit her...as Harley arrives with a picture of Roxie Shayne.

Frank arrives at Josh and Reva's house to hear the idea Cassie has had about luring the stalker out of hiding! Cassie reveals that she wants to host a masquerade ball. Frank tells her it is going to be risky and that they will need a cover for the ball! The women struggle with an idea and Josh suggest that they hold a benefit in Richard's name for the library that Prince Alonzo is building in San Cristobel in Richard's memory. Frank says that he likes that idea and they will have to work make sure Cassie and Reva are the hostess, since the stalker has an agenda against Reva for her role in Richard's death. Cassie says that will not be a problem, that her and Reva are now a united front! Harley spots Josh at Company and she tells him Frank informed her about the ball at The Beacon. The two talk about what will happen at the ball. Harley promises that she will keep a personal eye on Reva all night long. Josh thinks back to when he lost Reva the first time and says that Harley has away of lending a helping hand when he needs it the most!

Reva and Josh are dressing for the masquerade ball and he tells her to be very careful tonight up there that he does not want to lose her again. Reva assures him that Frank and Harley are taking every precaution to protect her. Josh is sorting the mail Harley brought in as Reva is finishing her make-up. He comes across the mysterious note and opens it. "You always did like to be the center of attention didn’t you? Even when you killed him it was all about you. You shall pay once and for all." He immediately calls Frank in and shows the note to Reva! The ball seems to be going off successfully so far. Frank however tells Josh that he is keeping Cassie and Reva secluded away so they can make their grand entrance together, in hopes of luring Reva's stalker out. Josh says that is if the stalker is even really here...as Frank goes to check on the women, Josh grabs Tony and pulls him aside. Before Frank arrives, Cassie and Reva are alone. Cassie reassures her sister that everything is going to be all right and that nothing bad is going to happen. Just then a knock is heard and an usher from the party delivers a note to Cassie, addressed to Reva. Reva is shaken by the note and feels uneasy about going through with the ball, but Cassie convinces her that it has to be done, just as Frank arrives. Cassie shows Frank the note and he says that most likely Reva's stalker is here, just as Harley enters with news about Rick's note...both are shocked to learn they are the same and Harley races off to Cedars, questioning where Gus is at. Against her better judgment Reva prepares to take the stage and Rick questions what in the hell is going on. Having been asked by Josh to keep an eye on Cassie and Reva...Tony offers his arm to escort Reva on the stage, which she gladly takes. Cassie introduces the Chairwoman of Prince Richard Winslow Foundation, her sister, Mrs. Reva Shayne Lewis...as Judith takes a place in the back of the room. Reva addresses the crowd about what a truly wonderful man Richard and that along with his widow and her husband, Joshua a scholarship foundation shall be sat up in conjunction with the building of "The Prince Richard Winslow Memorial Library" in San Cristobel...as the crowd applauses, Judith reaches into her hand bag, clutches a gun and whispers, "This is for you Johnny.” The applause at The Beacon dies down and suddenly everyone hears from the back of the room, "I baptize myself the slut of Springfield. Nothing but a common whore, a slut, a gold digging murdering jezebel. Isn’t that right Reva? Joshua? Cassie?" The entire party turns toward the woman as she pulls out a gun...Reva is frozen in the moment and whispers, "Roxanne", Cassie is pushed to the ground by an officer, Josh rushes towards Reva...as the gun is fired...police officers take Roxanne down, as Reva is also pushed to the ground, by someone other than a Springfield officer! Reva screams out as she sees Tony bleeding and calls out for a doctor and paramedics rushes towards his body! Reva is sobbing at Tony's side and begs him to fight this...she is weeping when the paramedics pushes her aside to see his son, Reva is crying beyond control as Josh takes her in his arms, she finally composes herself and then locks eyes with Roxie and charges after, "What have you done? Why?" Reva asks. Reva and Josh arrive at Cedars where they tell Danny and Cassie that Frank has Roxie in custody and that they will question her tomorrow. Reva says that Roxie is her sister and was responsible for stalking her, just as Harley shows the picture to Mel and she identifies her as the woman who ran her over. Rick is stunned to see Roxie after all these years, but does not tell Mel his connection to her. Reva apologizes to Danny and he says that it wasn't her fault and is almost ready to forgive her when a doctor comes out and breaks the news to Danny, that TONY HAS DIED! Tammy, Shayne and Marah return from Minnesota, the news of Tony’s death is kept from Marah as Reva prepares to confront Roxanne!

At the police station, Reva and Josh arrive to find Rick waiting on them there. Reva hugs Rick and asks how Mel is doing. Rick says that she's getting better, that Michelle is with her now and Reva apologizes for Roxie's actions. Rick assures Reva that what Roxie has done is not her fault, just as Frank is arriving, he tells them that Roxie's about to be questioned. Reva, Josh and Rick settle in to listen as Roxie explains why she came to Springfield and stalked both Reva and Mel. Roxie begins that the love of her life, Johnny Bauer…Rick tells Josh and Reva that is his second cousin. Roxie goes on to explain that she and Johnny married in 1998, but in September 2001 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer…and that he died July 11th. Reva suddenly realizes that is the same day that she withdrew Richard’s life support as Roxie makes a stunning claim: “She killed him. That slut, she was jealous of what Johnny and I had…she murdered him and got away with it.” Roxanne continues to say that Johnny was in perfect health until Reva came in and pulled his life support. Rick is stunned and says that he has to talk to Frank… Frank leaves Roxie alone in the interrogation room and Rick reveals to him that Roxie’s story does not add up…that Johnny isn’t dead, he never had cancer…Rick says that he does still live in Tulsa and that he did marry Roxie…but the rest is all made up. Frank orders a deputy to put the call into the sanitarium and then goes back into question Roxie. In the interrogation room Roxanne explains no matter what she did growing up that Reva always had the attention of her mother Sarah and men. Roxie says that Reva knew how much she loved Johnny and Reva took him away from her. Frank questions why Roxanne would go after Mel and Roxanne explains that after she lost Johnny she realized the only other man she would love was her second love, Rick Bauer and she never thought Mel deserved to be with him. Frank leaves Roxanne and encourages Reva not to see her sister and makes a few phone calls. He soon learns that Roxanne escaped her sanitarium home, leaving Tulsa and in fact a very much alive Johnny back in Tulsa. Reva says she is glad that this is over and she does not want to press charges against Roxanne. Frank agrees, but says that it will be up to Doris Wolfe if charges are pressed against Roxanne for her role in Tony’s death. Frank explains that Roxie will be transported back to Tulsa, after the holiday. Rick returns to the hospital, where Mel is being released...he sets her down and tells her that Frank knows who was responsible for stalking her. Rick tells his wife about his past with Roxie Bauer and how his cousin is now married to her and how she came to get revenge on Reva and her...Mel is devastated and asks Rick where she is now. Rick tells her that Roxie is going back to Oklahoma, Rick says that he's just glad that she didn't do anymore damage than she did and takes Mel in his arms, as Mel has a flashback to learning she was pregnant and Lillian revealing that she miscarried the baby. Reva and Josh arrive home to find Cassie, Billy, Marah, Shayne and Tammy waiting on them. Marah says she knows that something is going on, because Billy wouldn't let her read the paper or watch TV, Marah demands to know what happened: Reva breaks the news to Marah and everyone that her stalker was in fact, their aunt Roxie...Reva's sister. Cassie says that her and Reva hosted a benefit in Richard's memory and Roxie showed up. Reva then tells Marah that Tony...protected her in more ways than she ever imagined. Reva tells Marah that Roxie shot at her and Tony took the bullet and died. Marah is devastated and storms off...as Shayne rushes after her. Shayne stops Marah before she drives off, he grabs her and she breaks down in his arms. Marah says this isn't fair, that she and Tony fought before she left for Minnesota. Shayne tells her that no one, but Roxie is to blame for Tony's death. Marah says she refuses to believe that, she says that Reva brought this upon herself...Marah says that she blames Reva for this...and she'll find it very hard to forgive her. Shayne holds Marah as she mourns Tony.

The story at this point wraps and begins to tell other stories. Rick and Mel’s marriage struggles as she keeps the pregnancy from him. Reva, Josh and Cassie worked to put their family back together. Devastated over Tony’s death Marah pushed her family away and blamed Reva for his murder!

“Where am I?” Holly tossed in her bed and laid her eyes on Ed sitting in the chair asleep. “Where have you taken me?” She shouted at him.

Ed rubbed his forehead and yawned, “Good morning.”

“I asked you a question Ed Bauer!” Holly bolted from the bed, “Where am…you brought me to Cedars?” She finally realized.

“You needed to be here Holly. After what happened last night I didn’t know what else to do.”

“And what…what happened last night Ed? I told you our relationship was over and you what kidnapped me? I never expected that from you of all people.”

“That’s hardly the case Holly.” Ed defended, “Do you not remember anything about last night.”

“I remember plenty.” She sneered. “An uninvited, unwelcome visitor, the rain storm and you…you refusing to leave. So tell me, how did we end up here?”

Ed popped his fingers and thought of the right words. “Holly something else happened last night after you ran out of Hollybend.” He took a long pause.

“Well? I’m listening please tell me how I’ve ended up here of all places!”

“You sped away from Hollybend and I followed you. After about fifteen minutes of driving you stopped at the railroading crossing and that’s where you parked your car Holly.”

She looked across the room in a blank stare. “You’re making that up. I think I would remember parking my car on railroad tracks Ed.”

“You would think, yes. But you weren’t thinking last night Holly. You locked your doors and refused to talk to me. The train was coming and you wouldn’t let me in your car so I had to break the window and pull you out.”

Holly toyed with her fingers. “So you left me car on the side of the road and brought me to Cedars, very responsible of you Ed.”

He threw the morning edition of The Journal on the bed and shouted at her, “Read it! Look at the picture Holly! There is no car…the train smashed into and it if that wasn’t enough it exploded! Damn it Holly do you realize what could have happened to you?”

“Don’t you dare…” her voice cracked, “don’t you dare raise your voice to me Ed.”

“If that is what it will take to get your attention then that’s what I’m going to do Holly! I’m going to yell, scream and shout because you’ve got to realize what happened last night. You could have died and what’s even scarier about the whole situation is that I don’t think you even care!” Ed paused and touched her shoulder.

She pulled away, “I don’t remember any of that.”

“Of course you don’t.” He replied. “Let me ask you a question Holly. Did you want to die last night? Because what you did has suicide attempt written all over it and I just need to know…”

“You don’t need to know anything Ed, you’re not my husband!” She screamed at him, “Do you understand that? You seem so concerned that I understand what I’ve done, what about what you’ve done! I don’t remember much but the one thing I do know is that I asked you to leave, I told you to leave my house but you refused, so yes I left last night, that I do remember.”

“Holly…” he said in a sympatric voice.

“Don’t you pity me. Don’t!” Holly reached for the door and found it locked. “You’ve locked me in here? Where have you taken me?”

“You’re in the psychiatric ward.” Ed revealed.

Holly’s hand landed against Ed’s cheek startling him. “I don’t even know you anymore!” She said in a hushed voice. “I want to talk to my daughter, right now or you’ll have far more to worry about that a slap across the face.”

“Everything okay in here?” Dr. Felicia Boudreau shut the door behind her. “I could hear the two of you halfway down the hall.”

“That’s because everything is not okay in here.” Holly announced. “Felicia, I haven’t been Mrs. Ed Bauer in many, many years so tell me on what grounds does he have to admit me to the psychiatric ward of this establishment.”

“Because of his prominence with this establishment, Ms. Reade and his reputation in Springfield we admitted you under his care. From what Dr. Bauer explained you had made careless, dangerous and life threatening choices during the storm last night.”

“Well I also have a reputation among Springfield, good and bad.” Holly retorted. “And my former son-in-law is one of the most prominent attorneys in this town so I swear to God in Heaven above if I don’t speak to my next-of-kin in the next ten minutes I will bring so many lawsuits against this hospital that at the end of the day I’ll own it.”

Felicia left to make the call and Holly turned to Ed. “You forced me into the psych ward, huh? How very noble of you Ed.”

“Don’t make this about me Holly. There is something the matter with you and you need help.” He touched her shoulders. “Don’t you know that I just want to be here for you, to help you through all of this.”

“I don’t know how many more ways I can say this Ed.” She sat down on the bed and leaned her head down. “I feel like I’m saying the same words over and over and over again, I’m tired. And the reason I feel like I’m repeating myself is because I am.”

“You could have killed yourself.” He told her harshly. “Do you realize that?”

“And this I will admit, I have been in a very bad place these last few months. It just seems that everything collided all at once. Reva and Blake thinking that I was sleeping with Ross and then…”

    “Roger.”

“Yes, Roger.” She wiped her face with the palm of her hand. “Am I thankful that you were there last night? Of course, words will never begin to express my gratitude but don’t think that you’re a hero in all of this. You pushed me to that point last night, if anyone is to blame it’s you.”

“You don’t need a hero right?”

“I think you’re finally catching on Ed. We have to be over, for now at least. I’m speaking straight from my heart now, no yelling or screaming, no running out into the stormy night.” Tears fell down her cheeks. “You have this prince-charming complex about you, it’s romantic and it’s sweet but you don’t know when to stop. You don’t know when you’ve gone to far. Ed you always think you have to save someone, but there comes point when we have to save ourselves.”

Ed walked over to the door. “I never meant to drive this wedge between us. You know how much I care about you Holly, you always have.” He pulled open the door. “You’re the first woman since Eve that I truly loved, I hope you know that. And I hope you also know that I never meant to do anything that would ever hurt you.”

Without a reply from her Ed shut the door and walked down the hall with small tears in his eyes.

“Oh Felicia there you are.” Blake said, “Do you know that you are a very hard woman to catch up with.”

    “Yes, I know.”

“Anyway I got down here as quick as I could. Your message was very unclear as to what is going on.” Her eyes darted through the hall and she saw Ed leaving one of the rooms. “Ed!”

“Blake.” Ed opened his arms. “I’m so glad you’re here, Holly’s been asking for you.”

    “Where is my mother?”

“I have to go.” Ed kissed her on the cheek. “Felicia’s going to get you up to date on everything and if you need me call me. Okay?”

“Okay?” Blake raised her eyebrow. “Ed what are you not telling me?”

“Blake let’s go into my office and talk.”

“As a matter let’s not Felicia. Is my mother on this floor?”

As soon as the lock turned Blake was inside Holly’s room hugging her. “Look at me.” Blake held her face outward, “Are you okay? Felicia just told me what happened last night. Mom what were you thinking?”

“I’m fine.” Holly answered as she choked back tears. “Ed was there he save my life, I’m fine.” She reached up with her hand to wipe Blake’s cheeks. “Don’t do that.”

“I am so thankful you are all right.” Blake kissed her forehead. “I met Ed in the hallway he looked like he had um, something important to do. I’m sure he’ll be back later. Mom…”

“Actually he won’t. Ed and I have reached a mutual understanding if you will.”

    “What does that mean?”

“It means that Ed and I are no longer seeing one another?”

Blake shook her head, “I don’t understand. He saves your life and you what dump him?”

“It’s a little more complicated than and I don’t want to get into all right now. All that you need to know is that it’s time your mother learn to stand up and be on her own for awhile.”

“Alone?” Blake questioned. “Who are you trying to convince with that act? You and I, were not alone, never again.” She interlaced her hand with Holly’s. “We have one another, we stand together.”

Holly laid her head on Blake’s shoulder. “I don’t know how I got so lucky.” The women heard a knock on the door, “I love you.” Holly whispered as Felicia entered.

“So what’s wrong with me Felicia? Or am I just crazy?”

“No.” Felicia smiled, “Rest assured you’re not crazy. Holly I was reading in your chart and saw that you’ve suffered from Season Affection Disorder in the past, do you actively seek treatment?”

“I don’t. It’s not been that bad in the last few years. I sleep with a light on from time to time, the TV on it just depends. Felicia I know that I’ve been suffering from it this year, but never in all my life have I done something like I did last night.”

“We looked at the weather patterns and they broke around March 5, the disorder should have broke by that point.”

    “But it didn’t?” Blake questioned.

“No. Holly your SAD rolled over into a depression and we have reason to believe that it’s turned into post-traumatic stress disorder.”

Holly turned away from Blake and her eyes filled with tears. “Oh God.” She struggled to hold her tears back and finally spoke softly. “Is this why I did what I did last night?”

“Felicia we need to know what the steps will be to start treating this, immediately.” Blake took her mother’s hand and locked eyes with her. “We’re going to get through this, okay?”

“Let me go get started on your discharge paperwork and I’ll be back in a few minutes.” Felicia walked towards the door, “Blake could I see you outside for a moment.”

“For what?” Holly asked. “Don’t do this Felicia, don’t start keeping secrets from me now.”

“Holly I would dare keep anything from you. Blake is your emergency contact and she’ll have to sign your release papers. Okay?”

“Mom why don’t you change clothes and I’ll be back in a few minutes.” Blake added, “Everything is going all right.”

“Is there something you’re not telling me Felicia?” Blake questioned once in the corridor. “I won’t keep secrets from my mother, you should know that upfront.”

“Trust me I don’t want you to keep anything from Holly. Dr. Bauer helped me review Holly’s medical history last night and early this morning, you know he’s very concerned about your mother.”

“Good I’m glad he was able to get you up to speed so quickly but my mother under no certain terms, does not want Ed consulting on this case.”

    “Blake are you sure?”

“Very. She’s made it very clear as to where she stand with Ed and I have to respect her decisions. All right?”

“That’s fine. The one problem is that Holly’s a recovering alcoholic and it’s been my experience that many turn to the bottle to when they hear the word depression.” Felicia explained. “I’m going to prescribe a low dose Lexapro for Holly but I would strongly, again I strongly urge that you not leave Holly alone until she’s used to the medication.”

“Are you saying I should what move in with her?”

“Something along those lines, yes.” Felicia’s pager went off. “I have to answer this, excuse me.”

“Of course.” Blake sighed and glanced down at her watch.

“You know I could always move your mother into the house with me.” Ed announced.

“Oh God Ed!” Blake wrapped her arms his neck, “I don’t know how to thank you enough for what you’ve did.”

“I love your mother Blake. I would have done that and so much more if I had to. And I want to, you’re just going to have to convince her…”

“I’m going to stop you there and not let you finish that sentence. She’s depressed, not crazy. Ed she’s made her mind up and I know better than anyone how much you love and care about her but this isn’t about you or me, it’s about her.”

“I just want to help Blake.” His voice was soft, broken almost.

“Of course you do. It’s what you do best and I love you for it, but right know if you want to help do what she’s asking, step back and wait.” Blake kissed his cheek. “Are we clear here? You’ll respect her decision.”

“Of course. And if you need anything you’ll call?”

Blake shook her head yes. “I have to go back in.”

“He didn’t convince you that I needed rescuing again did he?” Holly questioned. “I saw you taking to him in the hallway, I’m crazy not blind.”

“You’re not crazy, stop saying that you are.” Blake lectured. “And no Ed didn’t convince me of anything I actually in fact convinced him to give you some space.”

“Well thank God someone did. You know he came over to Hollybend last night during the storm and I told him to leave Blake, I did!” Holly explained. “I was on that railroad track last night not because of your father like Ed thinks, it was because of him.”

“Mom we’re going to move on okay? You’re going to start taking the medication that Felicia’s prescribing, you’re not going to park your car on anymore railroad tracks.”

“Of course not.” Holly replied. “I don’t have a car anymore.” She smiled.

“Yeah, good point we’ll put that on a list of things to do.” Blake paused, “There is one more thing.”

    “What?”

“Clarissa and I are going to move into Hollybend for awhile.”

Holly rolled her eyes and shook her head. “No you’re not! Absolutely no Blake, no! You just said yourself I’m not crazy I will not have you babysitting me wondering if I’ll try something dangerously foolish again. No!”

“Well I didn’t think you would but now that you put it into words I’m a little worried.” Blake reached into her purse and pulled out the velvet box. “We’re moving in because Ross is having work done on the carriage house and I can’t parade around in my wedding dress if I’m there.”

“What?” Holly gasped and took the box out of Blake’s hand. “When? Where? Oh my God! You said yes right?”

“Of course.” She slipped the ring on. “I wanted to tell you first before I flashed around my huge diamond engagement ring. And he asked me last night during the thunderstorm.”

Holly shook her head. “The two of you and storms!” After the laughter died down Blake took a seat next to Holly on the bed.

“There’s something else and it’s about Daddy’s will.”

    “What about it?”

“I read the letter he left me and inside was a proxy. Mom, he left me his voting shares of Spaulding Enterprises.”

“Oh Blake…what are you going to do?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know because that’s not all. When I combined those shares plus the ones Alan-Michael and Phillip gave me…” Blake paused, “I think I’m the third highest ranking stockholder at Spaulding Enterprise.”

    “George Washington University.”

    “In DC?”

Tammy shook her head yes. “And I got accepted!” She beamed.

“Really?” Shayne forced a smiled. “Are you, um, ready for another movie? Your choice.”

Tammy put the envelope back in her purse she hadn’t even told Cassie yet about the development. “No. Shayne what’s your problem? We were just talking about colleges and you seemed so happy and then I tell you some of the best news of my life and you shut down. What gives?”

“I’m sorry Tammy.” Shayne apologized. “I am so happy for you, I just thought I would be able to talk you into staying? Since Roxanne arrived and caused so much havoc it seems like you’re the only person I can really talk to and if you move away…”

“Come with me Shayne. We could live in the student housing for a semester and then get a cheap apartment or something. We could have so much fun, go out on double dates, be tourists everyday that we were there.”

“My place is here in Springfield.” He somberly replied and turned the television back on. “Let’s just watch Dreamgirls, that’s what you wanted to watch next wasn’t it.”

She turned the TV off as a clap of thunder roared in the background, “Something else is going on and before you put the blame off on Marah and Reva’s fighting you should know that I’m not buying it.” Tammy demanded, “What’s going on Shayne? And don’t you dare lie to me.”

Inside the car Holly cranked the radio up in an effort to drown out Ed’s warnings. “Leave me alone.”

“Not a chance in hell.” Ed whispered as the rain fell harder and harder. In the distance he heard the train whistle blow, “HOLLY!” Ed screamed, “There’s a train coming.”

She closed her eyes and swayed her head back and forth. “I know you can hear me.” She heard him say, “Turn your head.” Ed warned and then without a pause he busted the glass.

Ed quickly lifted her out of the seat and she didn’t even bother to fight him. “Roger.” Holly softly as Ed shook his head in disgust once more. “Put me down.” She finally spoke, “I don’t need you to save me.”

“Do you know what is happening?” He shouted full of anger, “You keep saying the same damn thing over and over, but look.” She jerked her head away in spite, “Look…” Ed grabbed her cheeks and they both watched as the train suddenly hit Holly’s black sedan…as she witnessed the events Holly crumbled into Ed’s arms in tears beyond control.

At Cedars, Sandra questions what just happened as Lillian looks back in sheer amazement.

“I’m sorry I don’t mean to stare.” Lillian told her as she hung up the emergency phone.

“Then stop it.” Sandra shot back. “What’s your problem anyway?” She looked in her purse, “How long did they say it was going to be?”

“Ten to fifteen minutes.” Lillian answered. “I’m Lillian Raines, the head nurse here at Cedars.”

“If I introduce myself will you stop gawking at me Lillian?”

“I’m so sorry. Please forgive me. It’s just that you resemble someone I used to know many years ago,” Lillian paused, “a friend of mine actually.”

She forced a smile, “I see. Sandra O’Dell.” She introduced, “How do you do?”

Lillian shook her hand and an eerie feeling overwhelmed her, “O’Dell?”

    She shook her, “Yes. Why?”

Lillian raised her eyebrows and thought back to her last visit with Susan Stewart in Oakdale.

“Oh nothing, probably just a coincides of sorts.” She blew it off. “So what brings you to Cedars tonight?”

    **********

Alexandra further explains that a few days later Vera arrived, Brandon had sent her to bring Alex home. Alexandra says that a few days later she found out she was pregnant again.

“I knew that Brandon would never let me keep you. So Vera and I came up with a plan. She hid me in Chicago for nine months and continued to go to work everyday at the Spaulding house pretending to be pregnant.”

”How did my parents come into this?”

“I met Angela at the market one day when I was about three months pregnant. We talked and developed a friendship. By my eighth month, Vera died and we faked her death, right along with the babies.”

    “And my father helped?”

Alexandra shook her head, and smiled “Yes, he did. I gave Vera the bracelet and that was the evidence found in her murder. Joe opened the case and within a few week or so it closed, she was a Jane Doe. A month later in February you were born. I held you for about an hour and then I knew what I had to do.”

    “Give me away.”

“For your safety, not only from Alan and Brandon but from Roy Baker. He was drunk and worthless piece of trash, but he wasn’t stupid. If he knew you were his son and I your mother…he would have made both our lives a living hell.”

    “And what he found out?”

“Yes about year ago. He finally put two and two together and came up with four. Go figure. He had to believe that Vera was your mother and that you had no connection to him.”

Gus stands in shock! Alexandra apologizes profusely. She says that after he was born and settled she returned to the Spaulding mansion insisting that Vera had never found, which was their cover story.

“I did what was best for you, what I thought I had to do. You remember that Gus.” Alexandra told him. “I named you for God’s sake. Don’t ask me why I named you Nicholas but did.”

    “But why keep lying?”

Alex shrugged her shoulders. “I guess I was still scared. The truth is when I found Nick and invaded his life in a way that almost drove he and I apart. It’s something that I am not proud of. I guess I just figured that I would keep my distance like I’ve done all of your life.”

Gus walked down the isle towards the door and stopped midway. “So what’s changed?”

“I realized that my father is dead. Lujack is gone and Nick barely calls me on the holidays. I realized that I’m much stronger than I was almost forty years ago when I heard that car explode.” Tears streamed down her face. “I have to change, I need to change and I’m so sorry for lying to you. I’m so sorry for Harley’s condition, but Gus I’m not sorry for giving you away. I had to do it, for your sake and mine.”

The church fell silent. “You can hate me or you can love. I’ll survive either way. Just don’t shut the door on us completely. Okay?” Alexandra kissed his cheek and walked out of the church into the storm.

    **********

“Even if you had an affair. My father has justice coming to him and if we work together Olivia we can get back at him for every wrong thing he’s done.”

“What do you mean? Why do you want to get back at your father?”

“He’s taken everything I’ve ever wanted from me. Can I be perfectly honest with you?”

    “Go ahead.”

“Marrying Beth was a mistake. We rushed into blindly and I really think that Alan is the one who pushed her towards me.”

    “Really?”

Phillip shook his head. “I love Beth, I have my entire life but I think we’ve been pulled apart once to many times and we will never recapture…” he took a seat next to her, “it’s time you and I both got what we want Olivia.” They both moved in to one another and she could feel his breath on her face.

“This will never work.” She backed away at the last possible second. “Alan will never buy it for one second and you will destroy Beth. How do you think she will handle that?”

“I love Beth but sometimes love isn’t enough. This will work we’ll convince this baby is mine. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities.” He flashed his handsome smile.

“And Alan will kick me out in a New York second and I still lose everything Phillip. It won’t work.”

“Yes it will. He’ll hate you that’s true and he’ll try to push the divorce, but don’t give in.”

“And I ask again Phillip, what about Beth? This will destroy her and I don’t think much of her, but you do.”

“It’s just how it would have to be I suppose.” He answered as she stood up. “Where are you going?”

“Upstairs. I need to lie down and think about this, it’s a complicated decision.”

“One that could work Olivia. Trust me.”

She left the study and began to climb the stairs as Phillip put the fire out. “PHILLIP!” She screamed out as he raced to her.

    “What is it?”

“Phillip, my water…” she cried out in fear, “my water just broke.”

    **********

    Blake replied softly, “Sure.”

“I kept everything about my position at the university from you because I didn’t think you were strong enough to handle it or accept the fact that I wanted to go back there.”

    “Ross…” she tried to speak.

He put his finger to her lips, “No, don’t say anything. There’s more. Even after the truth came out I still thought you weren’t strong enough to handle my desire to want to go back. But you know what?”

    “What?”

“You’ve proved me wrong.” Ross kissed her again. “These last few days watching you with Holly, watching you hold your composure around Amanda I realized that you are so much stronger than I have ever given you credit for. You didn’t need me standing there with you holding your hand, you stood by yourself Blake.”

“I’ve always known I could stand alone Ross. I just don’t want to. You didn’t tell me about your involvement with the university because you wanted to protect me, keep me safe from harm or danger, but I don’t need that. I’m a grown woman who has made many good and many bad choices in her life. I’m a mother, a daughter, a friend…I don’t need your protection, but I want it. Do you understand what I’m saying? You and I we’re a team and I want your protection. But you have to let me know what dangers are out there lurking. Okay?”

    “Okay.”

“I love you so much.” She finally said for the first time in months. “Right now, it doesn’t matter if you were right and I was wrong or the other way around. I want you in my life…Ross…”

“Can I tell you something?” She shook her head yes. “The morning that Holly called and told you about Roger I was planning something for you.”

    “What?” She asked.

Ross walked across to his jacket and pulled out a small velvet box. “I was going to ask you to be my wife again.” He announced.

“Ross!” Blake gasped and covered her mouth, “Are you serious?”

“More serious tonight than I was then. Blake we’ve survived a deranged madwoman, secrets, deception, the death of your father and you know what?”

She shook her head, “Yeah I do know. We’re still standing together. Ask me Ross.” She cried out in excitement!

“Blake Thorpe-Marler, will you marry me? Again?”

She let him slip the ring on her finger, “YES!” She exclaimed! “Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes! I thought I had wrecked it forever and that you would never ask.” She kissed him on the lips and they fell to the couch together. He would later take her to the bedroom where they would make love and listen as the storm raged outside!

Through the down pouring rain Ed could see Holly’s taillights speeding away from him, she was going faster and faster. “Holly.” He spoke to himself, “Don’t do this.”

In her own car Holly could hear the voices of days gone by: Reva accusing her of being her stalker! Blake’s accusation that her and Ross where having an affair! Ed always trying to save her no matter how much she begged him not to! But the loudest voice of all was that of Roger, “I’m your husband” Holly heard him repeat over and over…it was too much for her to bear. Holly took a sharp turn and knew that she had to make these voices stop!

Ed followed close behind and almost lost Holly after her first turn…when she made a second and then a third he lost her.

Like the rain beating down on the windshield, Holly’s tears fell down her face. “This has got to stop.” She told herself and in sheer desperation she slammed on the brakes and screamed out at the top of her lungs. “I have to save myself!”

Ed finally managed to spot her car, “Oh God what are you doing?” He threw the car into park and raced to the driver side window. “Holly you open this door!” It was locked and she turned her head away from him and screamed out.

“I told you to leave me alone!”

“Do you know where you are?” Ed looked around and tried the handle only to find it locked, “Open the door Holly! I’m not playing games…you want to save yourself, then prove it.” He shouted as he eyes rose to the Railroad crossing sign.

“No we are not going to watch another Jim Carey movie tonight!” Tammy tossed a pillow at Shayne from the bed. “You are obsessed!”

    “I am not!”

“Shayne!” She lectured sarcastically, “Are you serious? We’ve watched Liar, Liar, The Truman Show and Ace Venture, you are obsessed!”

“You wanted to watch them just as much as I did.” He threw the pillow back at walked over to the desk. “You know we have more pressing issues.”

“Do not pick up another one of those catalogs. I’m serious you’re beginning to sound like my mom. Is that what you what, to sound like Cassie Winslow?”

“If it’ll make you pick a college to apply at then yes. It’s just something that I will have to discuss one day in my future therapy session.” He laughed and flopped down next to her with a stack of catalogs. “This is my personal choice of course.”

“Springfield University?” She rolled her eyes. “I don’t want to relive high school all over again.”

“Ouch!” Shayne grabbed his chest, “What’s wrong with SU? Lizzie and Marina both got accepted.”

She shook her head, “I don’t know. It’s like ever since Richard died people look at me like, oh poor pitiful Tammy. I just feel so confined here sometimes. You wouldn’t understand.”

Shayne laughed, “Oh please! Cousin you have nothing on me, okay. My mom has been married like what seven times and that includes to my dad, my uncle and my granddad. She jumped in a fountain for God’s sake. If anyone is confined here it’s me sweetheart, I am the offspring of the infamous Reva Shayne Lewis.”

“Yeah…” Tammy agreed, “you have me beat.” They both flipped through some brochures. “I guess SU wouldn’t be so bad but I want to go out and see the world, experience life.”

“You do remember you were a princess once upon time right?”

She rolled her eyes. “Don’t remind me. But that’s the thing I want to go to a place where no one has ever heard of San Cristobel. Somewhere that I’m not defined as Cassie’s daughter or…”

“Reva’s niece?” Shayne asked. “I know what you mean.”

“The reason I haven’t been looking at colleges and stuff is because I’ve already applied at three universities.”

    “Where?”

“Well of I picked two safe options, here and Tulsa University.”

“Mom’s been pressuring me about TU as well, oh we could go together.” Shayne thought aloud. “Where’s the third?” He questioned as Tammy attempted to avoid answering.

    **********

Blake and Ross are at the Carriage house. Ross has been staying over since Roger’s funeral.

“Was that Mrs. Robinson on the phone?” Ross asked.

Blake shook her head, “Yeah. She offered to keep the kids tonight.”

“Clarissa isn’t scared of the thunder?” Ross questioned.

“Apparently not.” She smiled, “Nancy said that the girls were playing dress up and the twins were watching some GI Joe video. They’re fine and you are not going anywhere.” Blake instructed, “I saw you looking for your car keys, it’s much to dangerous for you to be out there.”

“Well we did have an arrangement, after Roger’s funeral I would…”

“Leave?” Blake asked, “Well that’s not happening. I want to thank you though Ross. After what we’ve gone through the last few months,” she rolled her eyes, “the last year with Tory and my craziness I would have understood if you didn’t want to be around.”

“Are you kidding where else would I have been Blake?”

She shrugged her shoulders, “I don’t know, but you didn’t have to be here. You’ve been so good to me and mom, especially considering the tirade I went on about the two of you.”

“We’re both to blame there.” Ross admitted. “I should have not went behind your back like I did. That was careless and foolish, considering what you and I had just gone through with Tory.”

Blake wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips against his, “You are to good for me Ross Marler.”

“I think you’ve got that backwards, you are to good for me.” He kissed her again and they stood there looking at one another, no words were spoken, there was no need for them.

“Can I tell you something that I don’t think you want to hear?” He finally asked still holding Blake in his arms.

    **********

At the church Alexandra begins to tell Gus why she thought she had to give him up for adoption. Alexandra explains that she had two sons, Lujack and Nick.

“At the time I didn’t know I had twins. I was drugged up on painkillers, I only got to hold Lujack for a little while before a nurse took him away.”

    “And Nick?” Gus questioned.

“I found out about Nick, um sixteen years ago I believe. Billy Lewis’ daughter found him in New York City, his father Eric came to Springfield about year later and confirmed the news.”

    “That’s very outlandish…”

“It’s the honest to God truth. You can ask Alan, he’ll tell you. He was there.” Alexandra told him, “Lujack died in an explosion twenty-two years ago. If you don’t believe me ask Beth, he died her arms.”

    “Go on. Don’t stop now.”

“The twins father, Eric Luvonaczek…oh God I loved that man. But he had a price, everyone has a price and Brandon found out what it was. He left town with Lujack, Nick went into an orphanage and later was adopted. I begged Alan, I pleaded with Alan to help me…”

    “But he didn’t?”

    She shook her head no.

“Where do I fit into all of this Alexandra?”

“I ran away, I packed and took a one way flight to Paris and blew through my money faster than I care to think. I partied for a month and by April I was broke. I was at a party one night and met Locke Walls. He was a rocker, everything I needed in my life at that point, he was anti-Spaulding and I loved it.” She sat down on the front pew.

“I thought he was some struggling musician with no money and that’s what I wanted at that point in my life. Gus, your father was Roy Baker. I met him while running around with Locke, they were cousins. One night, we got so drunk and Roy told me that Locke’s mother his aunt married into a wealthy European family. I was so angry and one thing led to another and another and the next morning I woke up next to Roy, naked.”

“And Roy Baker where does he fit into this story Alexandra?” Gus questioned.

    **********

Olivia flopped down on the sofa and watched Phillip in front of the fire. “I am so ready for this child to be born.” She patted her stomach.

Phillip laughed, “I suppose you are. Olivia can I ask you a question that is probably going to offend you?”

“And if I said no?” She questioned, “Go ahead.”

“How sure are you about who the father of the baby is?”

“You’re right it does offend me..” She stood up from the sofa, “Why don’t you go ahead and stitch the scarlet A onto my chest right now.”

“That’s not what I meant by it Olivia. There’s just a chance that the baby could be mine we both know it.”

“You can’t be this baby’s father.” Olivia told him. “And the reason I know is because it’s what I want. I wanted Josh, I got Josh and then I lost him to Reva. It’s how my life works Phillip. Whatever I want I lose and it never works any other way.” She picked up a picture of her and Alan on their wedding. “I’ve prayed so hard that this baby would be yours, but God doesn’t hear my prayers.”

    “Olivia…” He tried.

“I wanted children and I will love this little boy or this little girl more than my own life, but apart of me will always know what Alan did.” She sat the picture down. “If I could get out of this marriage I would. I don’t want to lose my money, my power, and my hotel I owe that to Cassie at least. Plus I do not want to lose the privilege of being Mrs. Alan Spaulding.”

“The pre-nuptial agreement?” Phillip questioned. “Is it the standard Alan Spaulding pre-nup?”

“Of course, I guess, Phillip I don’t know. It says that I can’t leave Alan of my own accord for any reason and if I do then he retains everything I brought into the marriage and I get nothing.”

“Alan’s usual agreements state that both parties must be willing to consent to the divorce decree.”

“What do you mean?” Olivia questioned. “Are you saying that if I don’t agree to the divorce there is nothing Alan can do?” She raised her eyebrow at him. “Even if I had an affair?”

The rain was almost to heavy for Beth to even see the road ahead of her. She glanced down at the speed odometer and then reached for her cell phone.

“I swear…” Beth talked to herself and unbuckled her seat belt so she could reach her phone. Seconds later it was ringing.

“You’ve reached Phillip Spaulding with Spaulding Enterprise…” the recording answered, “Phillip, it’s Beth. Honey you won’t believe the meeting I just had with Callie Evans. If you get this message before I get home put get a bottle of wine from the cellar, we have a lot to talk about.”

    “This rain…”

    **********

“Ms. Spaulding would you like to go ahead and order dinner?” A waitress at Towers asked, “Let me just try my date one more time and if he doesn’t answer I think I’ll just go on home.”

“Okay.” The waitress shook her head as Lizzie dialed the phone, “Braxton, where are you?” She questioned as his message played, “Hey it’s Lizzie when you get this call me. I’m going to get a room here at Towers, so just come over when you get here. Bye.”

    “Any luck?”

Lizzie shook her head, “No. I think I’m just going to get a room and stay the night.” She collected her umbrella and purse, “Dominique would you call down to the concierge and have them prepare a suite for the evening?”

Lizzie headed toward the elevator while in the lobby below Hope Bauer pressed the up arrow and finished her conversation, “Okay well just be careful Daddy and take your time.” She dropped her phone into, “Alan.”

“Good evening Hope. I was surprised to see you at Roger’s service.”

“Daddy wanted to go and show his support to Holly, I accompanied.”

“Your timing was quite convenient.” Alan replied, “Wouldn’t you say?”

    **********

“Gus!” Alexandra rose from the pew, “I’m so relieved that you’re alright.” She rushed down the isle and reached out to touch his face.

Gus stepped back, “Don’t.” He warned as he stepped around her. “What are you even doing here anyway?”

With her back to him, “Roger was a very large part of my life for a very long time, we would fight so much…don’t get me wrong I loathed that man with every fiber of being. But never will I hate a man as much as I hate my father…”

“Is Roger my father?” Gus questioned.

“So you feel what Holly, smothered in this relationship?” Ed questioned.

“Don’t put words in mouth.” She lectured, “I’m just saying that I might want to fall down every once in awhile and that you should let me.” Holly looked out into the stormy night as silence fell over the room, “And I’m sorry if that…” she paused and turned to face him, “actually I’m not sorry.”

“You’re all over the map right now, maybe you should sit down.”

“You still don’t understand. I don’t want to sit down. I don’t want you to tell me what to do, Ed.” Holly told him.

“Where is this coming from? Holly, this isn’t you?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “Roger’s death has shaken me to the very core and for some unknown reason you chose not to see it. I thought I had made peace with Roger, with the rape and with the fact that even after all he did to me, I still loved him.”

“And Holly you’ve done so well to move forward with your life. Don’t let this push you further back. This is the control Roger has always had on you and no matter how hard I tried to break the hold he…”

“Did you just say what I think you did?” Holly stopped him. “You tried to break the hold that Roger had over me? Do you have any idea the living hell I am going through right now? No! Because the only hold Roger ever over you Ed was me…I suffered, not you. I have lived for the last twenty-eight years loving the man who violated me, who took away something so precious and innocent. I lived my life since that day with something bottled up inside, that you could never fix and I could never let go.” Tears raced down Holly’s cheek as she took a step back, almost afraid to say the words aloud. “I loved the man who raped until the day he died and I will continue to love him.”

Olivia wrapped the phone cord around her index finger, “Alan Spaulding I don’t know where you are but I suggest you come home, I’m scared.” She paused, “This is your wife in case you’re wondering.”

As she hung up the phone a gust of wind blew open the French doors for the patio and Olivia jumped out of freight. “Mother nature.” She huffed under her voice as she shut them.

“Oh damn!” She gasped, “Phillip do not ever sneak up on me like that again. Just about gave me a heart attack.”

    “Jumpy tonight aren’t you?”

    **********

“This rain is almost too much.” Beth tossed her phone to the passenger seat only to have it fall to the floor. Once it started ringing she reached for it again…as her car hit a large spot of water, sending her hydroplaning off the road and into the ditch…her phone still ringing.

“Hi, you’ve reached Beth Spaulding, leave a message.” Phillip decided against a message and just hung up, he would see her when she got home.

Beth felt a sudden pain in her stomach and moaned in pain, “Oh God.” She brought her hand to her temple and felt the blood, “Oh God! Someone help me.” She called out but no one heard her. There was no one around to hear her.

    **********

“Alan, stop hiding behind bushes and speaking in riddles. If you have something to say, say it.” Hope told him as she stepped on the elevator the doors frozen open for only a few seconds, “Do you need an invitation?”

“I heard a rumor that Charles Grant had brought you back to Springfield for a special project is all.” Alan told her as the doors closed, “The restaurant?”

Hope shook her head yes. “Did you hear this rumor on the playground as well?” She laughed, “As a matter of fact yes Charles did invite me to Springfield and proposed a very lucrative offer.”

“Oh what’s that?” Alan asked as the elevator climbed slowly to the top.

“I signed on as the interior designer for the Cedars renovations.”

“You done what?!” Was the last thing Alan remembered saying…as Lizzie waits for her arrival on the ground floor the lights suddenly flicker…off, then on again and even in the elevators they all three hear two loud claps of thunder.

“Alan!” Hope cries out, “Alan can you hear me?”

He immediately tried to brace himself. “Hope are you alright?”

She shook her head as the emergency lights came on, “Oh God, Alan…don’t tell me you you’re still claustrophobic. Alan…” she raised her voice as he immediately began loosening his tie. “Oh…why me? Just when I thought it was safe…” Hope rolled her eyes and reached for the emergency phone.

    **********

“What?” Alexandra gasped! “You bite your tongue.” She demanded, “There is no way on God’s green Earth or the Devil’s fiery hell that man is your father.”

“Then why all of this?” Gus gestured around the church, “Alexandra was it not enough for you to lie to me all these months, put Harley in a coma…”

“I warned her.” Alex defended, “It was her choice, coming to Bar Harbor, getting in that car…I will not be blamed for her condition and I will not apologize for being alive.”

“You had to do it here though? In front of the entire town. Why, why? I didn’t deserve that. Matter of fact I didn’t deserve any of the hell you’ve put me through Alexandra.” Gus choked back his tears, “So tell me why you did it?”

“Oh you where never supposed to know the truth…” Alexandra leaned against a pew, “I had…have two sons, Lujack and Nick, but when Brandon, my father found out I was pregnant he gave them away.”

“Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?” Gus questioned, “My whole life has been turned upside and inside out…so you better cut to the chase and quickly before you lose me.”

“Don’t say that.” Alex rushed towards him, “Please don’t ever think that I want to lose you. What I did was wrong I see that now, but I didn’t until yesterday. I knew if I went back to Brandon’s house pregnant again, I knew what would happen to you and I couldn’t go through that again. So Vera and I came up with a plan and it worked for a very long time.”

Gus stood stone face as he listened, “I knew that Brandon and Alan would have made me give you away and that breaks my heart because I wish I had been stronger then, perhaps I would still have all three of my boys, but I wasn’t. It was not a woman’s place to question the men in her life, be it her husband or in my case her father.”

She took his head as tears rolled down both of their cheeks, “Yes I gave you away I won’t deny or lie about it any longer. But I knew who I gave you too. Joe and Angela were two of the best people I knew, then and now. Gus you can hate me or you can love me, that is your choice to make, but what I did…giving you up for adoption I will not now, nor will I ever apologize for. I knew what my father would have done and I decided to do what I wanted to do on my terms. Remember that, my terms.”

    **********

Phillip poured himself a drink, “It’s a just a thunderstorm.”

“I grew on an island, every thunderstorm had the potential to turn into a hurricane.”

“We’re pretty much inland here. I think we’ll be all right.” He scoffed.

“I know that, but here we have to worry about flooding, tornadoes…” she paused, “it doesn’t matter just don’t sneak up on me like that. Make yourself known.”

He tipped his glass, “Where is everyone place sounds dead?”

“Alan and Lizzie aren’t home yet. Beth doesn’t speak to me, let alone give me a play by play of her days. And Ms. Walker took Zac and James to a movie, no doubt they’ll be there for awhile.”

    “So we’re alone?” Phillip questioned.

“I sent the staff home earlier, so it would appear that way. Yes.”

“Could be dangerous. Very bad things happen when you and I are alone together.”

“They do and somehow we continue to find ourselves in situations like this. Why do you think that is Phillip?” She smiled.

He shrugged his shoulders and knelt down to get a fire going. “Coincide maybe?”

    “Destiny.” Olivia replied, “Destiny.”

    **********

“Really?” She snapped and tossed her head in Alan’s direction, “Where you aware there’s a thunderstorm going on outside?” Hope asked sarcastically.

Alan rolled his eyes, “Tell him…”

“I know.” She held her hand up, “Who you are. Listen I apologize for my uncouth temper however, I’m stuck in an elevator with not only my ex-husband who I loathe more than you could possibly imagine, but he also suffers from claustrophobia.”

“Hope…” Alan spoke from the corner of the box. “Hope…”

“Would you shut up?” She hissed, “No of course not you.” She told the man on the phone, “Do what?”

    “What’s he saying?”

“Well apparently you don’t know who my ex-husband is and I’m not one who usually drops names, he’s Alan Spaulding. And he owns a majority of this entire town…so get someone to get us out of her right now!”

Hope hung the phone up and slammed the door, “Amateurs. You know things didn’t used to be like this in Springfield.”

Alan chuckled lightly and then started coughing, “Roger.”

“Roger?” Hope looked up from her purse, “Are you really going to blame Roger for this?”

“Haunting me from beyond the grave.”

“Sit up.” Hope ordered him and wrapped her petite jacket around his chest, “Now drink this.” He done as he was told and she willed him to be calm, “Okay look at me…Alan…look at me. You’re going to be fine, before you know it we’re going to be out of here and fighting just like we were three minutes ago.”

She smiled and it brought back memories from decades past. Hope dug around in her purse and pulled out a small sewing kit. She pulled out the scissors and cut a piece of her pant leg off.

    “What are you doing?”

“Making a washcloth for you.” She poured water on it and began dabbing Alan’s forehead.

“Why are you being so good to me?” Alan managed to ask.

Hope shrugged her shoulders, “No matter how hard I try to forget,” she ran the rag down his cheek, “you’re still the father of my son.”

    **********

She sank to the sofa as Ed stood over here. As silence fell over the room the thunder outside crashed, “If you’ve come to be my knight and shining armor, if you’ve come here tonight to pick up the piece of my fragile existence, if you want to rescue me one final time…it’s now Ed.”

“Holly why don’t you let me give you a sleeping pill or something that will calm you down?”

“Because I don’t want to calm down.” Her mind was racing with thoughts.

“I think it would benefit your health if you did.” Ed advised, “Your blood pressure will no doubt have rose.”

“I don’t care if my blood pressure skyrockets and I have a heart attack, it doesn’t matter. You came over here to my house and I want to relieve the good moments and the bad moments, I want to be close to Roger.”

“Oh Holly.” Ed said with a hint of disgust in his voice. “I don’t understand how you can say these things, after everything he’s done to us all.”

“You’re not supposed to understand! Just like I don’t understand how you could have fallen in bed with Lillian and broke Maureen’s heart.” Her words rang true and cut straight to the heart. They hurt Ed, but Holly didn’t care at this point. “Are you going to leave so I can mourn Roger in my own way?”

    Ed shook his head.

“No. You don’t need to be alone, not night.”

Holly grabbed her jacket, “You never learn do you? Ed if you want to save me then by all means do it, but I won’t be here.”

    “Holly.”

She threw open the front and reached for her car keys on the table, “Ed.” Holly mocked him, “We’re finished. It’s over.”

Ed stood frozen in the living room as he watched the door slam…the thunder rolled and lighting struck…Holly’s car started and his mind raced with painful memories as he raced for the door and into the stormy night.

“Well you are stuck with me.” Ben flipped on the lights inside the Bauer cabin, “That creek is definitely going to cause the roads to flood if the rain doesn’t let up.”

Marina dropped the bags and wrapped her arms around Ben’s neck, “Stuck with you? Really?” she kissed him, “Is that like a promise?”

He spun her around much to her delight, “You bet it is!” When he set her down he looked around, “I’m glad we came up here, this place really brings back a lot of memories for me.”

“Well I’m just glad that you were able to get the time off…” Marina headed towards the bedroom with the bags, “because I think you and I are about to make some memories of our own.”

“You want me to build a fire?”

“It’s like May baby.” Marina reminded him, “But I guess it would be romantic. You do that and when you get back…” she winked and disappeared into the bedroom. Ben put the other bag in the closet by the front door and headed out for some wood.

“I just don’t understand…” Lucy Cooper-Spaulding announced, “I mean I could get text messages about who was voted off American Idol for God’s sake, yet I can’t get reception up here unbelievable.”

    **********

The thunderstorm predicated earlier the day before settles in over Springfield as Holly Reade flips the television on and settles to the sofa.

“Let’s take it over to Joe who’s in the weather center watching this storm, Joe.” The news anchor spoke as Holly lowered the volume. She had survived Roger’s death she was almost certain she could make it through a little thunder and rain.

Spread out over the coffee table were a little bit of work and one to many pictures of days gone by: her and Roger, Blake when she was born…Holly dropped a picture of Roger and it floated to the table.

As she reclined on the sofa and flipped the television off her mind raced back to the previous day at the cemetery.

“Angels persist Roger. Clouds persist, they become showers, they become lakes, and they become clouds again and they persist as we persist. I’ve never forgot those words…and no time soon will I ever forget you.”

A knock on the door brought her back to reality, “Ed.” Holly forced a smile, “What are you doing out in this weather?”

“Well I haven’t had dinner yet and I thought of you.” He lifted two takeout bags from Company, “How does some Buzzburgers sound?”

“Um…” she searched for the right words, “thoughtful but I have a lot of editing to do and staff notes to prepare. I’m sorry.”

Ed shrugged his shoulders, “How about dinner? I won’t stay long.” He pushed past her and on into Hollybend. “I left you alone last night but I don’t think you need to be by yourself tonight.”

“I’m so sad that you’re not going to be here tonight. It’s raining pretty hard.” She spoke into the phone. Danny had taken Robbie to Chicago for a White Sox game. “Okay…hi Robbie. Did you and daddy have a good day?”

“I know they lost.” She mad a sad face even though he couldn’t see her, “You ate how many hotdogs? Three! You’re such a big boy huh? Okay well put daddy back on the phone…Sounds like you two had a good time…I know you wish you were here, but an overnight stay away from Springfield is what you need right now.” As Danny continued to tell her about the day Marah opened the door and saw a drenched Josh standing before her.

She motioned him in and covered the receiver, “Go on in, it’s Danny. Oh it’s my dad.” He picked up on the arrival of someone. “I don’t know…okay I’ll talk to you in the morning. Kiss Robbie for me…” Marah laughed out loud, “Bye!”

“Danny not home tonight?” Josh kissed Marah on the cheek.

“No he took Robbie to a White Sox game.” At which Josh frowned, “Oh that’s it…pack your bags I’m taking you away from here, I won’t let my daughter live with a Sox fan.”

Marah handed him a bourdon, “He’s a Cubs fan, but they weren’t in Chicago this weekend and Robbie wanted to go to a baseball game.”

“I see. But he is a Cubs fan?”

“Through and through. So what brings you by, this weather is horrible.”

    **********

Sandra O’Dell closed her umbrella and walked over to the nurse’s station. “Coming down like cats and dogs are out there.” She smiled, “Olivia Spaulding sent me over here, something about a drug test.”

A nurse quickly started working on her computer, “Name please?”

    “Sandra O’Dell. O-apostrophe-D-E-L-L.”

“Okay…here we go.” The nurse handed her a brochure, “This explains what the nurse will be doing this evening and the policies here at Cedars.”

Sandra smiled, “And where do I need to go?”

“Take the red elevator to the fourth floor and make left and ask for Nurse Raines, she’ll be administering your test tonight.”

“Raines?” Sandra questioned. “Um what’s her first name?”

Before the nurse could answer two paramedics burst through the ER doors, “We have a car crash victim!” One shouted, “We need a nurse stat!”

Sandra didn’t push for an answer, she just walked over to the elevator and got on. “Floor four.”

Almost as quickly as the doors had opened earlier did they open again on the second floor, “Okay you be careful out there Tina.” Lillian stepped on and pushed the already lit number three. “It’s coming down out there…” she began to speak as she turned to see her companion, “my God.” She gasped…as the lights went out!

    **********

“Sweetheart if you don’t calm down.” Buzz lectured as he sat the overnight bags down by the front door, “I’m sure if something happens Alan-Michael or Rick will get a hold of us somehow.”

    “I know…”

“And this was your idea.” He replied, “I was fine staying there with Harley but you and Frank said no this would do us good so let the cabin do its work. Okay?”

Frank dropped two grocery sacks down, “I still think we should have just gotten a couple of pizzas and called it good.”

“Please the two of you eat like some college frat boys. Pizza, hotdogs, chips. No sir, not tonight.” She announced, “Tonight I am going to cook you both a real meal. Lucy Cooper’s famous spaghetti delight.” She boasted, “Now go out and get a some wood for a fire this place is freezing.”

“Yes ma’am.” Frank mocked before heading out the door, “If I have to go so do you.” He told Buzz, “Plus it’ll give you a chance to try and get a signal on your phone.”

Lucy opened one of the shopping bags and pulled out a head of lettuce as the backdoor opened, “There’s no ways you guys found wood that fast.” She turned holding a butcher knife in one hand.

“Shi--” Ben cursed under his breath, “Lucy.”

    **********

He pulled out a large brown envelope from his jacket, “I’ve been carrying this around in the truck for a few days, it’s your mail.”

“Oh thank you. Mostly junk I would imagine, but it was very thoughtful of you.”

“Just couldn’t find the right time. I was going to come by last week but Billy said you and Mindy were in New York City.”

“You could haven given it to Danny, he won’t bite you know.”

Josh shook his head and sipped his drink, “Well I wanted an excuse to see my little girl, not Danny.” He told her.

“Well then you picked the perfect night,” a clap of thunder roared outside, “because I have dinner for two from Towers and no one to eat it with. Will you join me?”

    “I’d love to darlin’.”

    **********

“You think I’m scared of thunder and lighting?”

“Holly…” Ed pulled out two burgers, “I didn’t say that and you know that is not what I meant. I know how much Roger’s death has shaken you…”

“I’ve lived without Roger in my life for almost ten years. I don’t know how many times I have to say this but I’m fine.”

“Do you any sodas?” He asked ignoring her last comment, “You know I haven’t opened my letter from Roger yet. Not even sure if warrants the effort.”

She nibbled at an onion ring and hoped for both of their sakes she could change the topic of conversation. “Hope said she was staying in Springfield, any particular reason why?”

Ed got two glasses down from the counter, “She’ll be consulting with either Lewis or Spaulding on the new Cedars project. Do you want ice?”

“No.” Holly went ahead and cleared the table it was certain that Ed wasn’t going anywhere.

“Here you go.” Ed sat her glass on the table, “So what would you like to talk about?”

“This must be yours.” Holly again forced a smile, “I told you I didn’t want ice.”

“I know, but I thought it would be better with ice.” Ed took his seat, “You don’t mind.”

Holly sat the glass down and spoke softly, “I do mind actually, Ed. I’ve minded for a very long time and you do not seem to care.”

Ed looked across at her, “What are you talking about?”

    **********

“Mrs. Spaulding will be just fine.” Lucy corrected him, “What are you doing here?”

    “I um…”

“Are you and my niece here? Together?” Lucy glanced over to the bedroom door and saw the bag on the floor, “An overnight bag? There had better be a checkerboard in that bag.”

Ben swallowed. He did not do well with families, especially the Cooper clan, “Mrs. Spaulding this is not as bad as it looks.

“Oh you’re right…it’s worse.” Lucy told him, “Do you know who is here with me?”

“I’m going to assume no one is the wrong answer.”

“You could say that…my father and…”

Before she could answer him two doors suddenly opened: the front one and the bedroom…

“I hope this is hot enough for you?” Marina announced.

“Marina Nadine!” Frank yelled dropping the wood to the floor as their eyes all met.

Ben cursed under his breath, Buzz shut the front door, “Are you sure that creek’s flooded by now Lucy?”

Lucy rolled her eyes and went into the living room, “Marina honey go take off the washcloth that you’re wearing and put on some pajamas. You did remember to bring some PJs didn’t you?”

Marina shook her head no. “Oh my God Marina!” Frank yelled, “I’m going to hurt you…” he pointed toward Ben, “You had better sleep with both eyes open.”

Lucy walked over to Frank, “Enough out of you. Okay? No one will be sleeping with any eyes open. Frankie go with Dad outside and get a grip. Marina I brought some sweatpants why don’t you find them in my bag, over there and when you get change come help me cook dinner. Ben…” she cut her eyes toward him and shook her head, “Go up in the attic and bring down the extra cots please and Mel said there was extra bed lines in the closet get those please.”

After they were all sent on their way she returned to the kitchen, “And here I thought Alan-Michael’s family was dysfunctional.”

    **********

“You seem to think that I am still the damsel in distress. In case you haven’t noticed, which I don’t think you have I’ve evolved over the last thirty plus years we’ve known one another.”

“Holly I’ve never said that you were a damsel in distress…”

“Then stop acting like my white knight who’s come to save me from the big bad world. I went along time without you in my life Ed and I’m still standing.”

“And when we were together and you fell apart who picked you up?”

“Because I never learned how to pick myself up…I had to lose you first to learn that.” She fired back at him, “You always think you know what I need, what I want and the fact is you listen, you hear me and then you do whatever it is you want.” Holly reached for the glass, “Do you want ice Holly?” she mocked, “No, I said no and what did you do? You gave me ice.”

“Oh dear God!” Ed sighed, “Are we really fighting over frozen water?”

“No…no we are not fighting over frozen water. We are fighting because you always assume you know what is best for me and what I need.” Holly walked across the room, “When are you going to realize that I might survive without you?”

    MAY PREVIEWS

Executive Producer and co-head writer Josh Hawkins opens up about what is to come in next month as the SONBC blog "The Guiding Light" celebrates May! "A thunderstorm blows in the first week of sweeps (April 30-May 4) and what happens is big for our beloved Springfield citizens."

    Roger's Power Over Springfield

    - Even in death Roger is still controlling lives. Readers saw the contents of his will in Episode 063 and then we begin to see the after effects that it has on everyone, the big players here are Holly, Ed and Blake. The latter two each have an unopened, unread letter that Roger left for them by the end of May both contents of each will be revealed and it will send Blake and Ed on some big adventures through the summer months. As for the love of Roger's life Holly we see her struggle through the first of May and learn what has been wrong with her even prior to his death. The week of the storm is HUGE for Holly and her relationship with Ed, this is something even my writing team did not see coming, they were shocked! Since the blog debuted we've been trying to reestablish Holly as leading female character, this story does that it has very long legs!

    Storm Watch

    - The first week in May is one big 'umbrella' story that throws back to the great days of "Guiding Light" (1992: Blackout) as a severe thunderstorm rolls into Springfield trapping our residences in awkward positions. This affects the entire leading canvas with the exception of four main characters (Cassie, Danny, Michelle & Reva) everyone is paired up and danger ensues throughout one rocky night. Olivia and Phillip are trapped at the mansion and when she goes into labor a secret plot is hatched between the ex-lovers. Alexandra must face Gus and account for all her lies. Blake's life is turned inside-out and back again as she reads her letter from Roger. Maureen's look-a-like Sandra Reed and Lillian are trapped together and so much more. This is a great way to end some stories and then open up different ones which is what will happen!

    Teen Scene: Graduation & Prom

    - Shayne and Tammy begin May with some powerful stuff as he finally admits to her that he's gay! It's important that Shayne share this with someone other than Derek and the person blackmailing him (Alan-Michael). It's a big month for this group as they will go to their last prom and then eventually graduation! Marina and Ben have a rough road this month with age being an issue in their relationship, the same with Lizzie and doctor boyfriend Braxton O'Dell. As May comes to an end we're introducing a short-term characters to the canvas. Zach Roerig (ex-Casey, ATWT) joins for a limited run through the summer. It's going to be an exicting time for our teens and it starts this month!

    Harley’s Awakening

    - Harley awakes from her coma this month and when she's released from Cedars she goes gunning for one person: Alexandra! This story will be simmering on the backburner through May as we make creative choices as to where to go with it. We have an interesting plot twist that we are toying with at the moment.

    Misc. Spoilers

    - Marah, Mindy and Beth all become very business minded during May!
    - Another Oakdale crossover is in the works and should happen during the first week of the month.
    - A suicide attempt!
    - A marriage proposal and wedding!
    - Some faces from the past resurface: Eleni, Hawk & a few more!

    A Genre First

    - Around the middle of the month as things swing into high gear look for a story that has never been done (at least to my knowledge) in the actual daytime community! It's a subject I care quite a bit about and look forward to telling this story!

    Casting News & Notes

    - Sheree J. Wilson (ex-April, Dallas; ex-Alex, Walker Texas Ranger) will represent a yet unnamed character. The character is involved with two other blonde beauties Marah & Mindy!
    - Suggestions are still be accepted for this character: Early 40s male character with leading potential. A man who is arrogant, mysterious, egotistical and devilishly handsome. Established actors only please!

Alexandra says it is because of Alan and Brandon that she ran away and found comfort with Roy Baker and it’s because of them that she gave Gus away so it would be on her terms and not theirs. **********

The clouds were hanging low and black as Amanda Spaulding-Thorpe placed one black high heel and then another onto the pavement in front of St. Luke’s church.

“Mrs. Thorpe.” She was greeted once inside, “Father Jamison, I’m so sorry that we weren’t able to meet yesterday. My sincere condolences on your loss.”

“Thank you, that’s very compassionate of you. I don’t think it is going to be something I hear that much of today.”

“Well…” he searched for the right words, “I’m sure there are many who join you in mourning.”

Amanda smiled, “No there’s not. You must not have known my beloved and vindictive husband Roger.” She paused, “Has anyone else arrived yet?”

“No you’re the first. Would you like me to take you to your seat?”

Amanda shook her head no, “I would like a few minutes alone however.”

Father Jamison opened the doors, she saw the coffin and walked towards it. “My darling…” she ran her index finger along the top of it. “Always knew it would end here, in Springfield, not death. I made myself believe that the great Roger Thorpe was indestructible and you have to show me up and die!”

Amanda turned away from him as she usually did when they spoke of Holly. “Even in death you picked her over me. You went our entire marriage loving her, wishing I were her. I felt you resented me at time because I wasn’t Holly. I knew you wanted to leave me, but I looked past that and I gave you my heart.” She turned back to face the casket, “And I’ve never regretted that decision and until the day I am laid to rest next to you, I will never regret it. I may not have been the love of your life Roger, but you were the love of mine.”

Amanda heard the doors open at the back. Without looking Amanda kissed her hand and in then placed it on the casket, “Goodbye my love, may you finally rest in peace.”

A single tear raced down Amanda’s cheek as Blake announced her arrival, “Good morning.”

“I’ll leave you alone.” Was all she said as Amanda headed back down the isle and exited the sanctuary.

    **********

Alexandra poured herself a vodka-tonic and downed it within one drink.

“Ready for the fireworks? I’ve waited along time for this.”

Alexandra recalled life with Roger years earlier. Some of their best confrontations were held at the country club.

“And that’s before we even get the divorce. Oh I forgot to tell you Roger and I are getting a divorce.”

“And none to soon. You’re insane if you think I’m sticking around for this.”

“Oh come on Rog…you’re still smart aren’t you? Don’t you want to hear everything I have to say?”

She finished off her second drink when a knock came at the door.

“Your attire from the boutique downstairs ma’am.”

“Thank you.” Alex spent the next several minutes drinking and putting her assemble on. It was a black pantsuit, a white scarf around her neck and sunglasses to hide her eyes. The truth had been buried for her to long. It was time she set it all straight and let the chips fall where they may.

“I have a second chance.” She told herself before one final drink, “Okay Alexandra.” She looked in the mirror and stumbled a bit before heading out the door to the waiting car below.

    *********
    And Now "The Guiding Light"
    Opening

    **********

“I never understood what you saw in that woman.” Blake announced, “But then I was my father’s daughter. I married two Spaulding men, you married two Spaulding women.”

Blake took a seat on the front pew and looked at Roger’s casket, “I can’t believe you’re in that cedar box. I don’t know what to say to you…I’m angry that you’re not going to be around to see my kids grow up…and I’m sad because…” she choked up, “that I won’t be able to call you whenever Ross and I have a fight, because God knows we will. I actually thought a few months ago that Mom and Ross had rekindled some long lost love affair before I spoiled it all those years ago. And the first thing I thought of was, what would Roger do.”

She stood and placed her hand on the top of the casket, “No matter what I do from here on out, no matter who I am, whether it’s Mrs. Ross Marler or Blake Lewis,” she laughed at the thought, and “I consider myself blessed and lucky beyond words to be Roger Thorpe’s little girl I love you daddy.”

    **********

Springfield assembled in the sanctuary of St. Luke’s. It would appear that the entire town had shut down. Everyone was there. Holly, Amanda, Blake and Ross sat on the first row opposite of those who come to pay their respects to the family.

Father Jamison took to the podium, “We are here to mourn and to celebrate the life of Roger Thorpe…”

“Apparently he never met Roger.” Ed whispered to Mike and they both chuckled.

“I have something I want to say about Roger.” Billy stood up from his seat. Mindy reached for his hand.

“Sit down daddy.” She warned, “Don’t make a scene.” Mindy told him in a whisper, “Please.”

“Now darlin’…” Billy spoke, “I have to speak my mind because if I don’t I’ll never get the chance to say this again.”

    “Daddy!”

“All of these people know what type of bastard Roger was.”

Amanda bolted from her seat, “All right either sit down and shut up Billy Lewis or you get the hell out.”

“Amanda don’t act like you’re surprised at this.” He reached into his coat and pulled out one of HB’s old pistols.

“Daddy?! Is that a gun?” Mindy questioned, “What is going on?”

“Just doing the world a favor and making sure the bastard is dead.” He announced right before firing three holes into the casket, sending the sanctuary into a tailspin.

“JOSHUA!” Amanda irrupted once more as Blake called out as well, “ROSS!”

“Joshua you get your brother out of here right this minute.”

“Billy,” Ross lectured, “that was uncalled for.”

“Still defended the old son-of-a-bitch?” Billy questioned as Josh took his arm.

“Marah stay here with Mindy, we’re leaving.”

Marah shook his head, “I just done it for good measure.” Billy yelled out, “If Roger is really in that box then I know he’s dead for sure.” Before hitting the doors, “You all should thank me for having the guts to do it.”

Once the doors slammed shut Mindy spoke from her seat, “I am so sorry…”

“Mindy you are welcome to stay,” Amanda treaded cautiously, her nerves shot, “but do not open your mouth again. And one more outburst from anyone here and I’ll clear this church in a heartbeat and deprive you all from finally seeing what you’ve wanted for years, Roger dead.”

Blake took over the podium, adjusted the microphone and spoke softly, “Thank you all for being here, despite everything my father has done.” She unfolded a piece of paper and began to read, “Roger Adam Thorpe, successful businessman, father, grandfather, son died last week of a massive heart attack at his California home. His wife Amanda Spaulding of the home survives him. One daughter C. Blake Marler of Springfield, his father Adam Thorpe, five grandchildren…” she paused, “typically this where one would say and a host of friends and family, but that would be wrong. Consider all of you are not my father's friends. None of you were, he just had his casket shot out of God's sakes.”

“But here you are mocking his memory...you’re all fake and at least my father let you know where you stood with him. If he didn’t like you he let you know it…”

Her words trailed as the back door burst open and the father rolled his eyes.

“Am I too late?” A female voice asked, “God I hope not.” Alexandra ripped off her sunglasses, “Roger wouldn’t want me to miss this!” She purred shocking the entire congregation.

“Alexandra!” Lucy gasped under her breath, “She’s alive.”

Alex made her way down the isle, “I have a few things I want to say Chrissy…”

“You’re alive?” Blake replied as she stepped aside.

“That’s right, I’m alive. Did you all really think hell was ready for both Rog and I?” Alex tapped the microphone, “This is still on right? Good! Roger Thorpe…I was ex-wife… number three was it? And my relationship…” her speech was slurred, “my relationship and my marriage with Rog was a love-hate marriage. I loved to hate him and hated to love ‘em. Because, I did love him…you hear me Roger…I loved you for all of about ten minutes…” she leaned against the podium, “He was always trying to one up me…staying one step…ahead…of me in everyway…even in death. See I’m really dead, or at least that’s what everyone thinks…I guess the afterlife just didn’t know what to do with both of us there so I was spared. I guess I oh Rog some gratitude.” She laughed as Blake approached the podium, “You…step back Blake…I’m done here. I brought this man back into lives when I died the last time, I have right to speak my mind. I was in a plane accident, you remember that don’t you Alan…with Fletcher…” Alex cut her eyes toward Holly, “I was one of the lucky ones, wasn’t I Holly. I managed to get away. It seems to me that we are kindred spirits. Sadly, we also have the same taste in men. I just don’t know why you sit there and mourn the man who raped you!”

    Alex looks around the room.

“Amanda…where are you? I haven’t forgotten you honey. My sometime sister."

“Perhaps you should go home Alex, be with your family.”

“No…” Alex waved her hand in the air, “I have a point to make. You all know Roger’s grieving widow Amanda, my half-sister. It was Roger who uncovered the deep, dark family secret that she was Brandon’s daughter…I knew all along…I know lots of things and I’ve had many, many secrets. Rog brought to us our gold digging, black sheep sister…he did. And I got scared back then after the truth was exposed and in typical Alexandra fashion I ran away.” She nodded her head, “I ran away again recently, because of secret…and I almost…ALMOST!” She raised her voice, “Almost paid the ultimate price…” Alex stumbled away from the podium down to Roger’s casket and slammed her hand down on it, “Save a hot spot for me Rog, maybe in hell we can be friends…” Holly lowered her head in disgust as Amanda approached Alexandra.

“We’re all very relieved that you are alive and well Alexandra, but I will not allow your tirade to continue. This is my husband’s memorial service, not your own personal soap box.”

“Shut up Amanda!” She spoke loud and harshly, “Roger is eating this up. And besides if it weren’t for me coming back all those years ago to confirm what I always knew, you wouldn’t even be here. And that’s what I’m about to do, right now…” she pumped her fist into the air, “confirm what I’ve always know…ladies…gentlemen…Rog…my son is here!”

Mindy looked around her for Nick but no sign of him.

“Not Nick you little bitch!” Alex shouted at Mindy, “He wouldn’t give you the time of day anymore and I swear to God in Heaven Melinda Lewis you keep your crummy little hands off of him…” she paused to build the suspense even further, “my son…” she shouted, “who I gave up for adoption on my terms, not Brandon’s or Alan’s, but mine…Mr. Gus Aitoro!”

Gasps swept through the church as a shell shocked Gus froze, Lucy by his side. “Well go on Gus, stand up, and make your presence known. And thank Roger for it…”

Almost like she had ordered Gus stood up and exited the sanctuary, with Lucy quickly behind him. Alexandra looked across the church at their faces, “What?” She questioned, “You’re all sitting there shocked…don’t be.” She turned back to Blake, “Carry on with your mourning. I have a family to reunite with.”

    **********

“Are you okay?” Lucy finally caught up with Gus in the parking lot.

“How am I supposed to answer that?” He fired back…

“Gus…” Alex caught up with them, “This is not my fault,” she stumbled, “this is not my fault. You wanted the truth and I gave it you.”

“Alexandra. I think you should have your drive take you back to the mansion.” Lucy suggested, “Let me talk with Gus.”

“What the hell are you going to do Lucy? Scream my name some more? Because that worked so well the last time.” Alexandra fired off.

“That’s not fair…” she was hurt, “Don’t you dare, not even for one second place that guilt on me.”

“She’s right. This is all your doing.” Gus told her, “I’m out of here.”

“Wait, you don’t want to talk?” Alex asked, “You’ve asked for the truth, you’ve begged for the truth Gus…this is it.”

“Maybe I only thought I wanted the truth.” He slammed the car door and spun off in a heat of anger.

“Welcome home Alexandra.” Lucy sighed, “This solved everything, congratulations!”

    “Lucy…”

    “What?”

    “Harley?”

Lucy stopped mid-step, “Barely Alexandra. And just so you know, until she recovers fully I hold you responsible. Her blood is on your hands. Go have another drink and get the hell out of my sight.”

    **********

Holly felt the cool air hit her bare legs and she dropped Blake’s hand, “I want to be alone with your father, one last time please.”

“Okay.” Blake kissed Holly’s cheek. “I’ll ride back with Amanda to the Spaulding mansion, and leave you the car.”

“Thank you honey.” Holly looked intently at Roger’s final resting spot. “Make sure and tell Ed not to wait on me.”

“Are you sure? Mom, Ed really is concerned…”

“Christina!” Holly warned, “I want to be alone with Roger.”

She stood in silence and waited until she heard the last limo pull away, “She is your daughter, through and through.”

“I never expected this Roger. Damn you. Damn you. Why is it that whenever I try to put my life back together, you always come to tear it down again? Even in death. Death. Roger, I always thought that you were going to go out in a blaze of glory not quietly into the night. Yet here you are. Not a bang but a whimper.”

“Well here we are…sorry that your service wasn’t normal, but I think you enjoyed it. You always liked to be the center of drama in this town, gunshots and Alexandra…it’s nothing new to you.” Holly smiled for the first time in a very long while and almost laughed, “I thought Amanda was lying when she said you were dead. I just struggled with the fact that you fell to your death in Santo Domingo and survived. Yet in the end it was your heart that finally gave way. That’s irony for Roger.”

“I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how to make peace with you, with us or even myself lately. For so long you were a part of me, almost defining who I was. Roger you violated something that was so precious and I’ve never truly recovered from that. You’ve caused so much pain and hurt so many people over the course of your life: me, Ed, Alexandra…and despite it all, despite every flaw that you had, despite you raping me… in spite of our twisted relationship I managed to love you. No one understood you and they never understood us or why you had this hold over me, but that’s okay, because we understood. Our love for one another was ugly, you said it yourself but it was ours…” Holly pulled a single rose from atop the spray, “it was our love and it was okay that no one understood.”

“You kissed me once at the cliff house and said that I could love you at the end of the world. That’s where we are Roger, at least the end of our world. I love you, maybe not the way you wanted me to, but I did and I will continue to in my own way.” She leaned down to kiss the casket and then placed her hand in the same spot, “Angels persist Roger. Clouds persist, they become showers, they become lakes, and they become clouds again and they persist as we persist. I’ve never forgot those words…and no time soon will I ever forget you.” She stood at the foot of Roger’s casket and ran her hands up to the top, “Goodbye my love.”

The morning sun creeps through the window of Holly’s bedroom. Holly peers out the window to the back yard below. The small buds that will become leaves have popped out of the ground. She then looks at her lap and sees Blake nestled there. Holly strokes her head and contents herself remembering days long past. Dark rings surround her eyes; she hasn’t slept a wink. As she reminisces, flashes of the past flare up again. She sees Roger in front of her.

“You love him don’t ya! You love him! Why don't you look at me that way?” he yells as he bashes his fists into his chest.

The image changes and Holly sees a very different side to him.

“How could I have destroyed what I loved best and made even the loveliness of it so ugly to you?” he says.

These thoughts have jumbled her mind and kept her up all night. “I have to be strong,” Holly says. “I have to be strong for Blake’s sake.” Holly looks down again and strokes her hair.

    **********

Amanda Spaulding-Thorpe walks into the Spaulding dining room and sees Alan sitting back puffing on a cigar.

“I’m so glad you’re taking Roger’s death so well Alan!”

“Why shouldn’t I celebrate the passing of an enemy? I’ve been waiting for this moment for years. Roger Thorpe is dead! I never thought I’d see the day! It’s just a shame Alexandra isn’t here to see it.”

“Yes, but I was hoping that for my sake that you would stop it. He was my husband and I did love him.”

“The man was a bastard Amanda. He terrorized this town. Even his own family wasn’t safe. You know what he did to Alexandra. Why do you keep defending him?”

“You know, some people would say the same about you! Do I need to remind you that you and Brandon took her children from her? Or perhaps any of the countless schemes that you have engaged in? You are no better than him!”

Amanda storms out of the room, passing Beth and Phillip on the way out.

“I was wondering about this storm that’s supposed to blow into town this week,” smirks Beth. “If it gets cold enough it’ll snow they say.”

“Dad, what happened? Why did Amanda run out?” Phillip says as they sit down. Alan-Michael and Lucy enter the room and sit down.

“Oh, she will be fine,” Alan assures them. “She’s just going through the mourning process. How you could mourn the loss of Roger Thorpe, I just don’t know?”

Beth stands up to make an announcement to the family.

“Everyone, I spoke with the funeral director this morning, he’ll help schedule Alexandra’s memorial. They were booked until Friday, so that is when the memorial will be.”

Each family member glances at each other as they remember Alexandra.

“I’ll take off. I want to come,” Lucy says.

    **********

Meanwhile, Alexandra enters a hotel room. She has returned to Springfield but has decided to freshen up before announcing her resurrection. She hears a knock on the door and opens it to find a hotel messenger. “Here’s a copy of the paper like you asked,” he says. Alex closes the door and reads. “Former Spaulding Exec Dead,” the headline reads.

Alexandra sees the picture on the cover and shutters. “Roger?”

The paper drops out of her hands and hits the floor.

    And Now "The Guiding Light"
    Opening

    **********

Billy Lewis sits at home reading the newspaper. “That son-of-a-bitch is finally dead,” he thinks. He flashes back to the time when he thought he had finished the job himself. Billy stares at Roger through the potting shed window, a revolver pointed at his chest. The bullet shatters the window before piercing Roger’s chest.

Billy comes back from the subconscious visions and thinks of Mindy. He picks up the phone and dials her New York address.

“Hey darlin’. How is my little girl doin’?”

“Daddy, I’m fine. I’m not a little girl anymore you don’t have to keep checking up on me,” Mindy complains.

“Mindy, you know that that is what I do best. But this isn’t a check up call. Guess who died? Roger Thorpe of all people!”

“Are they sure?” Mindy asks. “Did they find a body this time?”

“The Journal says they did. But you can never tell with Thorpe. The paper says that the funeral will be held tomorrow. Why don’t ya come and give your old man some company?”

“You mean you are actually going to the funeral? Don’t you think that’s a little much Daddy?”

“Well honey, in times like this ya gotta go to show the good Lord what kinda person you are.”

    “Uh-huh,” Mindy says. “I don’t believe you.”

“At any rate, it could be fun. A little Roger Thorpe roast could be more fun than a barrel of monkeys.”

“My meeting got pushed back till Friday so I guess I can stop by. Marah’s still here with me, so I’ll drop her off.”

“Good. I’ll see you later darlin’.”

Billy places the receiver and grabs the newspaper. He takes one more look at Roger’s photo then throws the paper into the fireplace.

    **********

Blake wakes up and walks downstairs. Ross lies asleep on the sofa in the living room. She goes to him and snuggles up against him. Holly comes in from the kitchen and sees them together. She can remember what brought Ross to town in the first place. When Roger was on trial for raping Holly, Ross was his lawyer. She remembers him grilling her on the stand, making the rape out to be something that she deserved.

Under the fictional pressure, Holly drops the tray she was carrying. It hits the floor with a crash, waking up Ross and Blake.

“Oh I’m sorry,” Holly says, snapping back to reality. “I was bringing some coffee and I, I apparently tripped.”

Blake gets up and begins to pick up the broken glassware.

“Honey, don’t worry about that. I’ll get that later. Now that we’re all awake. Let’s get some coffee?”

They wander into the kitchen and sit at the table. The warm stream of coffee infuses them all with newfound energy to begin the day.

“We have to call Amanda so that we can get your father’s funeral plans finished,” Holly says in between sips.

“Do you want me to go with you?” Ross says. “I have a meeting with Doris Wolfe in a bit. But considering the circumstances, I’m sure she’ll understand.”

“No, I think we’re good Ross. I think we need to do this by ourselves.”

“Yeah sweetheart. We’ll be fine,” Blake adds, smiling at Ross.

“In that case, I have got to get ready,” Ross says as he gets out of his chair. He leans down to kiss Blake and walks out of the room.

When he is out of earshot, Blake laments to Holly. “I still can’t believe Daddy is gone,” she says. Holly reaches over and places her hand over Blake’s hand.

    **********

Alexandra finishes reading the article and smirks. She still cannot believe that he is gone. Anger and shock mix with venom-laced memories of past confrontations.

“All you ever wanted was power,” Alex says to Roger who is hovering over her on the country club balcony. “Oh yeah! Well you liked the power that I had over you!” Roger retorts.

What did I ever see in that man, she thinks. Her mind further ponders the past and the future as she remembers the most recent past few days at Bar Harbor.

Somewhat sorrowful, somewhat vengeful, Alex replies, “Who has the power now Roger?”

Alexandra walks over and pours herself a glass of scotch and sits down on the chair.

    **********

Ross visits Cedars on his way to the meeting. Ed needs to know, he thinks. He meets Ed at his office.

“Edward, did you read today’s paper?” he said.

“No, I’ve been on call all night. You know how it is this time of the year. People try to clean their houses and end up with a concussion. It’s a great time of the year. What was in the paper?”

“Amanda Spaulding is back in town. Apparently, Roger died of a heart attack a few nights ago.”

“Are you serious?” Ed questions. "I wasn't sure if he even had a heart."

“Yeah. Amanda is having the body brought back to town.”

    “How is Holly doing?”

“She seems to be doing okay, but I know that this must have shaken her up,” Ross says.

    “What about Blake?”

“She’s devastated. Roger was her idol.”

“I know all about that,” Ed says with a twinge of jealousy.

“You know, Roger always had impeccable timing. Now even in death, he’s messing everything up.”

    “What do you mean?”

“This,” Ross says as he pulls out a small box. Ed opens it and sees an engagement ring stuffed in the jewelry box foam.

    “Oh Ross.”

“Now my plans are cancelled at least until after the funeral.”

“I’m sure you will get the chance to propose Ross. Blake is going to need you over the next few days. I’m sure that she is really hurting. You need to be there with her.

    **********

Holly, Blake, and Amanda sit in St. Luke’s church. “Roger wanted his funeral to be here,” Amanda says. Holly can’t help but notice the irony. The pastor says that they need to finalize some details for tomorrow.

Blake and Amanda walk away with the pastor to plan the details of the funeral as Holly stands in the sanctuary. Holly flashes back into the past. She hears Roger comfort her.

“Angels persist Holly. Clouds persists, they become showers, they become lakes, and they becomes clouds again and they persist as we persist.”

Holly walks over to the altar and kneels down to pray.

“God, help me get through this.”

    **********

After Ross leaves the office, Ed picks up his phone and calls his brother.

“Mike, hey its Ed. You’ll never believe this, Roger Thorpe died.”

“Are you kidding,” said Mike at the other end of the line.

“That seems to be the catchphrase going around town this morning. But yeah, Amanda Spaulding has his body coming back to town. The funeral will probably be sometime tomorrow.”

“Hope and I are coming back to town tomorrow ironically. Hope has a new job as an interior designer for the Cedars project. We’ll be arriving tomorrow,” Mike says.

“Good. I’ll see you soon. Goodbye.”

Ed puts the receiver down and flashes back. Mike and Ed have had some adventures where Roger Thorpe is concerned. He can remember the hot and muggy jungles of Santo Domingo.

Ed holds on to Roger’s hands. Below a dangling Roger is the jagged cliff. His hands are too slippery. No, no. He’s slipping. He’s slipping. He makes a final attempt to grasp Roger’s hand, but no luck. He falls, smashing into the rocks below. Holly unleashes a blood-curling scream.

Ed’s attention is shifted away from the scene from the past.

He remembers Holly and wonders if she is okay.

HEARST & DOUGLAS FIND "THE LIGHT"

"Decisions had to be made for the sake of the story." Says head wirter/executive producer Josh Hawkins in regards to the sudden casting shocker! "It's about the image you see for the character, mine along with Dan's changed."

The recently Emmy nominated Dan Gauthier who joined "The Guiding Light" in November 2006 as the recast Alan-Michael Spaulding has been let go. "I was in a hurry to bring the character back and at the end the day Gauthier was not our A-M." Hawkins continued. "Plus we have a storyline coming up through the summer that will rock Springfield and Hearst has so much history with the series it made perfect sense."

Hearst won an Emmy for his role on the CBS "Guiding Light" in 1991 will begin to appear as Alan-Michael immediately. Even though A-M is mentioned in the next two episodes it won't be until Episode 062 that Hearst begins. "He'll be sharing scenes with Shayne." Shared Hawkins, "This storyline is so exicting and just the images of Hearst with young Ben Hogestyn (Shayne) is amazing. Plus when you put him side by side with the talented Heather Tom (Lucy) it just works."

Also joining the cast on as a "Special Recurring Player" similar to that of Krista Tesreau (Mindy) and Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa) is soap veteran Jerry Douglas (ex-John Abbott, Y&R). "He'll be playing the role of Mike Bauer." Confirmed Hawkins, "We'll be seeing him off and on as storyline requires much like Mindy and Vanessa."

Douglas first appears as Mike Bauer in episode 061.

Hawkins does admit that for the moment the recasting is done, "I do it quite often, but it's about the vision you see for the character. To date the roles of: Michelle Bauer Santos, Hope Bauer, Alan-Michael Spaulding, Lucy Cooper Spaulding, Marah Lewis and Shayne Lewis have all been recast.

Also look for either Linda Gray or Stockard Channing to make a guest appearance in the near future. "We have a storyline planned for Mindy and Marah." Hawkins said, "One of those veteran actress will be making a brief two-three episode run in the very near future."

Toby Poser last airs as Amanda Spaulding during Episode 063 after Roger's will is read! "Something very unique happens during that episode for Amanda, dont' miss it." Teases the scribe.

And finally the following casting call has been sent out and the producers are seeking a well established daytime or primetime veteran actor to fill the role. All suggestions are welcome:

    **********

“Is Blake on her way?” Amanda Spaulding-Thorpe adjusted herself in the chair.

“Yes.” Holly poured herself a glass of water, “Amanda would you like something to drink, I’m afraid all I have is club soda.”

“No I’m fine.” She sighed heavily, “When she gets here we should discuss the arrangements. Roger’s body will be…”

Holly held her hand up to stop Amanda mid-sentence, “No as a matter of fact we won’t be discussing anything of such.”

“Holly he wanted you and Blake included in the process.”

“And we very well will be. But I will not allow you to bombard my daughter with this news. No, you will sit there in that chair and keep your big mouth shut, I will tell her about Roger.” Holly informed her as a deadening silence fell over the room.

“Holly…Amanda…” They both spoke at the same time, “Go ahead.” Amanda gestured, “What were you going to say?”

“Did he suffer?” She bordered on tears for the first time since the devastating news, “Was he in any pain?”

    **********

“Gus?” Vera asked shocked, “You think I’m lying?”

“I don’t know what to think anymore. Harley is in there fighting for her life and the one person, the only person I know who knew the truth is dead.”

Lucy cut her eyes toward Vera, “She knows the truth Gus or at least her version of it.”

    And Now "The Guiding Light"
    Opening

    **********

“No.” Amanda answered, “Besides be reasonable if Roger was sick who do you think would have been the first person he called? It certainly would not have been me.”

“He would have called Blake and we both know it.”

“And you would have been a close second and I a distant third.”

Holly set her glass down and glanced at her watch, “Why is that you resentment? You’ve been his wife for years Amanda, on some level Roger loved you.”

“And on every level that mattered he loved you.” Amanda shot back, “There was a huge place in his heart Holly that I was never allowed because it was yours.”

The words struck her to the core, “Perhaps we should just sit in silence while we wait for Blake.”

“Fine.” Amanda replied, “Fine by me.”

    **********

“Gus…” Rick came out of Harley’s room, “You should come in and here this, Lucy you should as well.”

“Just one minute and I’ll be in.” Lucy reached out and grabbed Vera’s wrists, “You and I…we’re not done.”

Through clinched teeth, “You let go of me Lucy. Who the bloody hell do you think you are?”

Lucy didn’t let go, “Who the hell am I?” she questioned.

Vera managed to free herself, “I don’t know what you problem is with me and quite frankly I could care less.”

“Alexandra died in the car accident and my sister could very well do the same. So tonight Vera when you lay that bleached blond head of yours down to sleep you let my words ring in your ears…if Harley dies I will hold you responsible and I will do everything in my power as Mrs. Alan-Michael Spaulding to make you pay!”

“Your threatens, Lucy…they don’t scare me.”

“That’s your first mistake, underestimating me. You are far to concerned about Alexandra’s demise.”

“She was my friend, of course I’m concerned. And I don’t underestimate you Lucy, far from it. I am Gus’ mother and that is the end of the story.”

“It damn well better be.” Lucy spun around and headed toward Rick’s office.

    **********

Blake knocked on the door and walked into Hollybend, “Mom I got over here as fast as I could…” she froze in mid-step, “What is she doing here?”

“Blake.” Amanda stood, “Lovely too see you again.”

“Mom?” Blake cut her eyes toward Holly, “Did you know she was here?”

“Of course I knew she was here. Blake…”

“Did my father come with you?” She interrupted before Holly could finish. The room stood silent for a moment, “It’s not a difficult question…”

“Come sit down Blake.” Holly patted the sofa. “Amanda has brought some devastating news with her.”

“Did my father finally cut you off? Or wait, wait let me guess he finally came to his sense after all these years and kicked you to the curb?”

Amanda shook her head, “Blake you and your mother have a lot to discuss so I’m going to leave you to it.”

Blake watched as Holly walked Amanda to the door, “Be careful out there it’s so cold, nothing like California.”

“And you be careful in here. I’ll call you in the morning.”

“That will be fine, yes. Good-bye Amanda.”

Holly turned back to Blake, “You were surprisingly cordial to her.”

“She came with very devastating news honey. Roger had a heart attack…”

“When?” A solemn Blake questioned, “”Mom?”

“A few nights ago, Blake I am so sorry…”

    “No…” she whimpered, “no…”

Holly opened her arms and walked toward Blake the sight of her daughter’s pain brought tears to her eyes, “Momma…” her voice cracked.

“Come on let’s sit down here on the sofa…” the two women took a seat, “she said he didn’t suffer so that’s of course something to be grateful for.”

Blake couldn’t speak she just closed her eyes tightly and floated back to her childhood days when Holly would hold her in her lap and lightly stroke hair, exactly like she was doing now.

    **********

Vera had spent ten minutes in the chapel praying for Alexandra, Harley and most importantly herself. If Alexandra was dead then she just had to trust she took their secret to her fiery grave. She slipped back down the hall, Lucy’s words ringing in her ear…

“I will do everything in my power as Mrs. Alan-Michael Spaulding to make you pay!”

The door to Harley’s room was closed and Vera lightly pushed the door open, “Buzz.” She was surprised to see him there, “I thought you would be with the rest of the family.”

“I just wanted some time alone with her.” He didn’t move an inch just spoke softly, “You know we have a lot in common.”

    “You and I?” Vera asked.

“Seems that way. I ran off on Harley and Frank a long time ago. Just came back into the life about twelve, thirteen years ago.”

    “Gus never mentioned that.”

“Not something I’m proud of.” He looked up at her, “Nadine…she was something else you almost remind me of her.”

“Is that a good thing?” Vera smiled.

Buzz didn’t respond he just kissed Harley’s hand and focused all of his attention on her.

Vera slid her hands over Buzz’s shoulders and whispered, “Our children need us now more than ever Buzz, more than ever.”

    **********

By the time Alexandra arrived back at Spaulding house in Bar Harbor she was missing a high heel, her ear was bleeding, she had scrapes, bruises and injuries that she should have looked out.

By the time Alex made her way into the study she collapsed to the sofa and reached for the newspaper to see what day it was. The headline caught her attention before anything: “SPAULDING ENTERPRISE COO DEAD”

“Sweet Jesus in heaven…” Alex sighed, “I’m dead. They think I’m dead.”
