I don't know if you all ever read/saw The Prince of Tides (SPOILER), but the family is ambushed and raped by a group of brutes. The mother makes the executive decision to not tell the father or the police and she and the children are never to speak of it. My great-grandmother was raped by a mail carrier, kept it to herself for years in her stiff upper lipped first generation eastern European immigrant way. Was that the right way, the healthy way? It was HER way. Until you are a victim yourself, you can't fairly predict your reaction to an assault. How many of us imagined how we would have handled those terrorists if we'd been on one of those flights on 9/11? Playing Monday morning quarterback with someone else's trauma is unfair, pointless, gross.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Been there, done that in my own family. No one wants to believe the worst about a loved one. But I'll tell you this much: Where there's smoke there's fire. And when someone gets accused of something twice, let alone in the teens, loving family recognizes what's really going on regardless of whatever front they're putting on for the public. Then again, my people have sense. Can't speak for every family. If you're like me and my relatives, you recognize that the person in question has eluded criminal punishment (at least until the next time?) and you do what you have to do to physically and emotionally distance yourself for your own well-being. I'm willing to guess this is what at least one or more of Cosby's daughters and other relatives are doing.
  3. I'm late, but that Eydie Gorme sure could sing. Her, "I (knows)" starting at 1:10. :-) http://youtu.be/B9qu_o0laLs

Good looking out! Can't remember the last time this show was "can't miss". It would be such bull if they did one of those abbreviated hosts segments and Whoopi is backstage. I don't think that'll be the case though. The producers would demand her potential devil's advocacy.

I agree that those shows are great, but if the courts can't touch him, the syndicated powers that be and the court of public opinion can, and many won't award him any further by lining his pockets on the merits of his good work. Grab the dvds while you can.
  6. Peggy was a bridesmaid in Cliff and Nina's wedding, I don't know anything beyond that.
  7. I love Ross=Caleb as described, even if the character was recast. That would have worked perfectly and the character would have had more mileage. Why a newbie when a legacy character would suffice? Ross was also special as he was a Chandler-Cortlandt.
  8. Years ago, I wrote a treatment for an AMC/The City crossover s/l with a young man financially provided for by Sydney Chase who was the son of her chauffeur Samuel and Silver Kane. I later had an idea for the boy and his grandmother, Goldie, coming Pine Valley to stir the pot and settle some old scores, and Goldie and Vanessa Bennett would have had a comical snarky frenemy relationship going back to their days in Hollywood being two-timed by Eric. ANYway... I wonder if the show was too invested in doing *big!* stories for Erica to ever concern themselves with bringing on a bunch of relatives for her. Of course she had domestic type drama with her parents and siblings, but it wasn't until her girls were grown that you saw Erica truly sharing the spotlight/playing support in family storylines.

This makes me want to learn more about Camille... first hand accounts of her character, how she spends her days. I'm just curious to know more about the woman for the first time in what, thirty years, of knowing who she is. A blind eye stand by your man type, utterly clueless for years, fully aware and unafraid to bust his [!@#$%^&*] in private but hung in there for the kids and security...?
  10. I thought the Noelle/Silver stuff was pretty fascinating at the time, but I agree that the character was nowhere as charismatic as Connie Wilkes.
  11. Late '88/early '89, several months after Bianca. I guess Michael and Molly have that in common, never being brought back to the canvas as tweens. I suppose it had to be Molly OR Shawn... just how horrible could Barbara have been? I'll never forget Erica saying, "I don't even like the NAME Barbara." I remember Cliff's big back from the dead return in South America. That's the first time I saw a soap actor do something Methody like grow his scraggly facial hair out.

I guess. Perfect dose of Barbara. Once every (other?) season. She looked good though. Well-rested, and the most naturally rejuvenated she's looked in a long while.
  13. He was still a baby when they left town. His name would pop up on message boards when the show brought back teen then later adult Bobby in "What if?" proposed casting scenarios, but I don't recall if the character was ever name checked by Bobby or Palmer.

LOL @AMS' small font for the K0la B00f of sitcom dads. Wow, never heard of Escape and Grit, need to go look those up. Come on now, all these channels, we can do more than just The Doctors.

No one can in good conscience call Beverly Johnson a crazy, money hungry, fame whore, D-list anonymous bitch trying to take a black man down, and sadly, I think that's precisely the combo it took to convince a lot of people.

Holy [!@#$%^&*]. This one will be a major game changer for many who were still on the fence.
  17. I missed it. Please post if you know it'll be reairing. Michele looks like Phyllis Diller in that pic.

I'm not feeling this lineup. =/
  19. She and Michele both had those old-school rhinos. Concorde nose.
  20. Bob Hope the ring bearer, that's pretty damn funny.
  21. When Louis Edmunds appeared on E!'s Pure Soap with Shelley Taylor Morgan, they talked about the album and may have played a clip or the tune I'm hearing in my head right now is something that I made up. Maybe search eBay.

I think it was USA that used to air reruns in the daytime. I figured we'd never see the show syndicated again the way they pimp those DVDs.
  23. Haha! I've read some of Legends![ It's funny in a dated bitchy camp sort of way, kind of like an average episode of Filthy Rich. I'm not surprised that it didn't make it to Broadway. They're gone now, but an awesome YouTuber whose name I won't call had made these great series edits of various characters and storylines. For instance, The Dominique Deveraux Show and The Sable Colby Show, all of those characters' scenes edited together and divided into episodes. It was interesting to see how Nolan Miller created a particular look for each character and how he'd later recycle an idea for another character. In Legends!, he dressed Linda in an updated ensemble he did for Diahann on Dynasty, and another one he did for Sally Field in Soapdish.
  24. I know we've talked about it off and on for a few years now, but I don't think that's our Sylvia. Doesn't sound or look like her, particularly the headshots of her at that time which they showed on Intervention. I dunno... I agree that they'd probably had the Opal/Palmer pairing in the cards, regardless. They got good comedic mileage out of Opal/Langley in the eighties, and I can picture their vision of putting her with another stuffy, effete man, this one authentically rich and resisting HER advances. I don't know where they got this idea of Jill being a Dorothy lookalike. I doubt there was any bad blood i.e., not reaching out to her. I presume they assumed they couldn't get her/that ship had sailed, and maybe even Jill's turn as Ursula had some sort of chicken/egg involvement in her being cast and the show bringing back Opal. One should ask Jill. Dorothy made quite an impression on me and my cousin when we were little. We both referred to her as Opal when Mama's Family debuted and both Opal and Naomi (my cousin used to stretch her shirts down her shoulders like her) were the kind of vivid OTT characters you don't forget. Especially on a show like MF with those accents, wigs, costumes... Watching Jill dithering around playing Erica's sensible bff was like watching an altogether new character.
  25. Ha, that first clip I thought, "That's not a fur hat Carl, that's her hair." I hadn't watched all the clips yet. These are great, thanks for sharing. And Lisa does look stunning, love her in that silver fox coat. So I remember when Randolph Mantooth was Clay and my mother later explaining that he wasn't Clay anymore but I didn't remember him being off the show. I noticed that he wasn't in the credits but Horan was. I've never been.clear on the Clay retcon, i.e., the explanation of his appearance to his family if he was an imposter.
