Ratings From the 90's
I've just watched 4 episodes consecutive in mid-Oct. '91 including the reveal of "RealRoman" to the members of the Brady family & I've found the episodes to be much better than average, perhaps I'd say stellar. Of course, it' s not the same thing as thinking about how you felt about something in its own time. I could have a bias out of nostalgia or be comparing classic DAYS to DAYS today or it could just be that I'm a longtime fan of Wayne Northrup's.

I know all about Jacquie's popularity. And, as I said, personally, I was never satisfied with any other Alice. Obviously, she was acting. She was hitting her marks, saying her lines, emoting, practicing her tradecraft, but there was something about her that he did not like. I choose to call it an issue of style of acting. My idea about the acting coach is simply a pragmatic idea to reach a kind of compromise. But, he was entitled to an opinion. HWs can be involved in casting. And, make no mistake, if Paul had said they weren't going to fire her, it wouldn't have happened. If the writer is that unsatisfied with the person delivering the lines he wrote there's a problem. I just wish they'd reached a less severe solution. No one but me likes the acting coach idea & I am content to have it as a Minority Rapport. I understand Mary Matthews role in the scheme of things. I don't believe anyone said Dwyer couldn't act. My understanding of it was that she refused to learn her lines, preferring to ad lib. If that was true, it was a valid reason. As an aside I love the anecdote where supposedly Dwyer decided everything in her closet was Mary's not hers & she threw it all out & went shopping the next day. And, of course, I also am just stating opinions. And, I agree with you that Pete was good at writing so many things including things he said he didn't care for & in the case of JC as Alice, for someone he saw as lacking. There was certainly nothing said by me to dispute those facts at all. Some writers can't write good stuff for someone they doubt. I found a neat picture of George yesterday.

I don't know if any of you know Kim Wells who is not here & is on Facebook. She had a large AW group, around 2500 people & AW was her first love. But, she also had other soap groups. Well, something happened, I don't know what & she lost her FB acct. She was the only Admin of all of her groups. Of course she created a new FB acct but she couldn't take control of her groups. So, today she is creating new groups & reporting the old groups to hope to get them shut down. Somehow, unknown persons have taken over her groups, so she thinks it was a well-planned hacker attack. She has many episodes that are not up anywhere, only now strangers have them.

I don't believe it was Pete who caused George R to be fired; it was Paul. Jacquie, of course, is completely on his head. He, and he alone questioned her acting ability. My solution would have been to pair her with a good acting coach & find a way for her to deliver the style he was looking for! I was never satisfied with any other Alice. Virginia Dwyer also but I found his reasons to be compelling in her case.

I wished at the time of the finale, and still really wish now, that Iris had been in a final scene. She could have been unexpected, gotten out & headed to Bay City, show up on Rachel's door. I know Goutman wanted Beverlee & she's so divine, who wouldn't, but, once he couldn't have her, he should have dropped back to punt & brought on Carmen!

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
1991 Real Roman reveal: "John Black who thinks he's Roman" & Real Roman & Marlena with Shane helping. A doctor he has brought takes blood to do a DNA comparison with samples from Carolyn & Shawn. Isabella is pregnant & Bo knows but no one else. Everyone is confused. Everyone is frustrated. Only Marlena & Shane & John/Roman know of Real Roman's existence. He was a prisoner for 7 years & he is impatient to be reunited with his family. He tricks Bo into coming over. 21:30 RealRoman: Hey, little brother ... Bo: This is impossible. Later, at the Fish Market, Bo has called a Family Meeting. 32:00 RealRoman walks in. All shocked. 1st Carolyn approaches him & puts her hands on his face & then gives him a huge hug. & then Pop, really sees that it is Roman & hugs him & is very excited & gregarious. John/Roman comes in the door & is immediately on guard. He turns around & leaves almost immediately.

Thanks I am doing some research, trying to find out how bad GH was, when they brought in Marland & Monty in 1978. My bad luck there's no '77. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

DAYS 10-16-91, 42 min. long but there is a blip of "NBC News Special Report" ... just FYI. Seems maybe an announcement of later given the episode length. I'm just guessing.

I don't know if y'all know this or not. So sorry if I am duplicating info. But there is a current PSSN YouTube channel, very well organized, looks to have the whole run of the show. I had heard there used to be one but it got zapped or something. But, as of yesterday I saw this one with my own two digital eyes. Enough preface, here's the info: Your hostess's name is Melissa Mosley & her username is @melissamosley9749 Have fun!

I don't know if anyone else has any interest in the print ads that used to run but when I run into them I admit to being a little fascinated. Some new ones to me: one all NBC lineup with Iris but on TEXAS & one with Cecile, strictly AW.

Me, too! Special songs for differrnt couples & also the musical montages that Jill Farren Phelps practically invented. Only one thing, when I think of "Lady in Red" which I do, often, it is of Steve & Kayla.

Well, you have edited out what you wrote about the AW Fan Bench in Central Park. But I am going to speak to the references to it. First I would mention one or more trolls who wanted to start something pretending they wanted to do a Jerry verDorn bench. Next is a handful of people making good-natured jokes about Ron Carlivati benches & what they might look like. It is mentioned in a description of of a Photo Album. Next & possibly most signifcant is about the videos that were made as a fund-raising tool but which can now be enjoyed on YouTube.

Twice after the show ended, two Junes after 1998, on the weekend closest to June 25th we had two fan gatherings. Sat. at Blondie's Sun. Central Park, the AW Fan Bench. In Manhattan there were actors with us. At the Park, none joined in. The first time we were raising money for the Bench. There were some tears. We had planned on watching the finale on the giant screens. But Linda hadn't watched it yet & she didn't think she could bear it, so we did not. We auctioned off some items in our fund-raising. One of Victoria's sculptures. One of the paintings from the Cory living room. A copy of 8 Yrs in AW. I had 2 copies so I donated one to the cause. That's before the epilogue made the Kindle version available, so it was incredibly rare. We got over a thousand for it. About a thousand for the sculpture. I think the painting went for 700. After that we made the videos. Lovely Ada, Cory Christmases, MacRac & Carl & Rachel. By the second year we had come up with the $5,000 for the Bench. Actors: Linda Dano, Stephen Schnetzer, Anna Stuart, Gail Brown, Mark Pinter, Ricky Paull Goldin, Lawrence Lau, ...

Betty the planted nanny? Could have been. I keep thinking about Charlotte & the tarot cards. What if she accidentally triggered someone? The only people I can think of who were previously brainwashed are Drew & Dante. Was there anyone else? I know it wasn't Ava. I feel like Cyrus is too obvious. But it could have been someone at his behest. And, I don't know whether he is dead - yet. But, he is going to die. Not soap dead either.

It was just so deliciously wickedly soapy! Knowing the way Iris was about "Daddy" try to imagine what would throw her for the biggest loop? Voila, not really Daddy's daughter!

My first introduction to crying over a soap scene was when my mother cried for 3 days over the death of Neil on Neil & Penny. (I think I got that right.) My first was Felicia's husband Zane Lindquist (Patrick Tovatt). Ultimately I shed tears for the loss of the show. Lots brought me to tears in between.
