  1. Ummm......

    Wow.

It does sound interesting, I'm not gonna lie, but...

Listen, bitches: It's 18/19 years later. The Gang has gone through a lot but still have friendships/relationships with each other. They have kids and a few more new teenagers are a major part of the show. We play catch up with some major things that happened during the 18 years off, plus a bunch of new developments.

We simply pick up their lives almost two decades later. Get introduced to a new crop of teens. It's not that difficult. Jesus Christ.

Love me some BritBox. That's how I watch "Emmerdale," "EastEnders" and "Coronation Street." Too bad there's no equivalent (that I'm aware of) for "Home and Away," "Hollyoaks" and "Neighbours." Sure, "Hollyoaks" is available on Hulu, but the delay is too great.

Yeah, it'd be great to get the Australian soaps and the rest of the Brit ones, too!

Good grief, how did I not even know this service existed?!?

I think I'll wait until just after the holidays, when I know I'll have lots more free time. Then I'll start a free subscription and watch U/D until my eyes bleed!

    Thanks, YRBB!

You're welcome. I was hoping you'd enjoy the info. It's my holiday gift to you 😛

It's new-ish, but pretty great. It's how I catch up with the Brit soaps when I tune back in, and a great source for classic UK shows.

I was thinking of that, definitely a good plan.

I adored U/D sooooo much when I saw it in the 1970s. I wish I could watch it again. I don't have the funds to buy the boxset, and alas, cannot find it online. :(

The entire original series is streaming on BritBox, which is $6.99 a month! They also offer a 7-day free trial, if you're feeling adventurous and can watch the entire run during that time. 😛

CowLip QAF was a pale shadow of the UK original (though I admit it could be ok as a trashy gay soap)

 I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to it as CowLip QAF before! lol

I admit, I have yet to watch the non-CowLip version yet. I must, soon.

  6. Finally catching up with Season 6 of this sometimes great, sometimes very frustrating show.

Izzie is in the middle of her on-again, off-again phase (thanks to Heigl). She just returned after a lengthy absence and... well, I didn't really miss her.

I enjoy all the new people: Charles, Jackson, Reed.

The reveal that Chief Webber's been drinking for months was AMAZING! I love so much that it was right there all this time and they tricked us.

  7. I find it funny that people always say something along the lines of, "Marlena got possessed and started levitating" (likely because it's one of the most memorable things about the storyline), but the actual levitation didn't happen until at least 6 months after the start of the story and was part of the climax/finale.

There is an episode where Marlena is growling as the exorcism begins and it's genuinely scary/creepy. But Caroline's armchair rocking/scaring her was hilarious, and it wasn't meant to be.

Peck is starting to develop some really hot chemistry with Clarke. When he kisses her, you half-expect him to rip off her clothes and take her right there LOL

It's good to see Sami back.

I love when Billie and Austin talk about their past; it really works.

Funny how Peter spoke of Aremid and going there with Jennifer the next day for a trip. It's been 2 days (in show's universe) since then, and no mention of it.... Guess Reilly either just wanted to introduce it or came up with something else he'd rather do first.

Some of us have talked about this before but one of the things that made the outrageous stuff work was how the actors and writers played it seriously. But one scene during the Possession always cracks me up. John and Kristen go into Marlena's bedroom. I think this is right after MarDevil has attacked Mike and Caroline. MarDevil is in the air and pushing wind into the room and John flies back against the wall, Drake has this serious look on his face, all while his hair is living a life on it's own, LOL.

Without a doubt - it's outrageous material, but the cast, and the writing, are 100% committed to it. I saw the scene you're talking about just the other day -- It's just as John enters the room to begin the exorcism and Marlena does her 'parlor trick.' That hair was giving an Oscar-worthy performance!

I never understood how so many could find him sexy with that mullet. Most guys got rid of it when the 80s ended, but Hogestyn carried it for another whole decade! It was at it's wildest during the possession time period.

Is it really a mullet, though? It's definitely very 80s but looks more like helmet hair ala Bobby Ewing. In any case, the sexiness wasn't affected all that much by the hair I guess... although he did look even hotter when he finally trimmed it.

For me, this was always Reilly's weakness as a writer.  I appreciate making an audience beg for something to happen, but in a Reilly soap universe if the couples would have spoken to each other as often as they spoke to themselves in empty rooms most of those plots would have been over in twenty minutes.  Every couple was driven apart by a false sense of loyalty that never sustained logic.  And every couple was doomed to have trust issues because they lied to each other about everything from cancer to babies.

You've quoted someone else with my words, @j swift

This isn't really what I was talking about -- I was more making a note about Hogestyn's performance, which can vary wildly from decent to laugh-out-loud hilarious. On the other hand, from what little I've seen from the second half of Reilly's first run, I agree he probably stretched things out too much... but I'll have to see how I feel once I properly watch it all.

  10. No thoughts on last week's episode?

I thought it was another excellent one. The reviews have also been very good. This season is shaping up to be a great one. And that twist at the end, which finally brings us to (highlight if you've watched) Murder House!

Why is that? I think Falcon Crest was a very enjoyable show. This season (1987/88) was perhaps when the decline began in earnest though. It was the first season post-Chase and wasn't it also Melissa's last season?

Oh, I agree! I've seen the first 3 seasons and an episode here and there from others, and always found it enjoyable, so I wasn't really putting the show down. It's just that Season 7 of FC doesn't have a particularly good reputation and I was always under the impression KL was second after DALLAS/DYNASTY in terms of ratings and FC was third. Perhaps that was true of earlier seasons.

  12. Halfway through May 1995. Kristen has become convinced Marlena is possessed and is trying to convince John as well.

Eileen Davidson is giving an absolutely brilliant performance. My God. She brings a ton of energy, knows exactly how to handle the complicated, hard-to-get-right scenes she's had to play, and is basically the #1 reason to watch. Not a single false note. Just jaw-droppingly good. I think it's some of the best acting on a soap I've ever seen.

Deirdre is also clearly having fun. Now that Kristen is on to the Devil, Kristen and 'Marlena' have had to act like enemies and the  chemistry is off the charts. I wonder if this is when Reilly decided Kristen and Marlena should have a feud. How could you resist?

Meanwhile, John is as sexy as ever but Hogestyn trying to act like he's incredibly tormented by his attraction to Marlena which he MUST RESIST is so, so, so hilarious. He plays it as if he's having an appendicitis attack! Still, in most moments he remains charming, competent, and incredibly hot.
