  1. John Powell is being played by Raymond Cliff Owens. Mr. Owens played Mitch Dunbar on the serial Another Life.
  2. The show was hurt by too many of its popular characters who were in a love quadruple leaving the show: Donna Mills, Leslie Charleston, David Birney, and (eventually) Ed Power. Their replacements (Michael Hawkins, Tom Fuccello, Veleka Gray, Barbara Stanger, Brett Halsey) were not as popular with the audience. Also, Ira and Jane Avery divorced. CBS, the owner of the show, wanted them to continue to write the show. However, one of them (Jane, I believe) refused to work with the other, and CBS did not want Ira Avery to write the show by himself. So, a change of headwriters was necessitated. Jane and Ira Avery had introduced the Garrison family (Margaret, Chandler, Spencer, Nancy, Sarah, Jean and Jean's son Andy) into the story, and they were quite popular. The Hale family was introduced next, but that family fizzled. (I think that the family should have stayed around longer and been given more to do.) The Chernak family was then introduced. Mrs. Chernak eventually married into the Donnelly family, as had Helen Elliott. In 1972, when Procter and Gamble made demands of CBS for the timeslot, the show was moved into the former timeslot of The Edge of Night. The decision was made to turn the show into a crime-mystery since The Edge of Night had been so popular there. Both shows were hurt by the moves that CBS made.
  3. I know that Marcia McCabe played a district attorney in one or more of the trials on All My Children. Perhaps she was D. A. Stanhope. I checked to see at IMDb, but they did not have her All My Children role listed there.
  4. Love Is a Many Splendored Thing was doing quite well at that time. It was the only relatively new soap opera in the top ten beside shows that had been on the air for many years. I am guessing that this was during the Jean Garrison storyline. I heard people say at the time that Jean was much meaner than Lisa (on As the World Turns) had ever thought about being.
  5. top: John Driver (Kevin #2), Johanna Leister (Phoebe #4), John LaGioia (Johnny), Linda Cook (Laurie Ann #5), Michael Stroka (Quentin) bottom: Dixie Carter (Brandy), Mandel Kramer (Bill #2), Ann Flood (Nancy), Donald May (Adam), Forrest Compton (Mike #3) I don't know the year, but, based on the absence of Maeve McGuire (Nicole), I would guess that this is near the end of the CBS run. That was 1975.
  6. On the episode of The Doctors that aired on Friday, January 12, 1968, there is a young candy striper who is seen getting onto the elevator at the prologue of the episode. She is then told by Althea that she has been a great help and also asked by Althea to place a sigh on the door. The candy striper is played by actress Faith Catlin, the original Dr. Faith Coleridge when Ryan's Hope premiered seven years later. She was my favorite actress who played the role of Faith. She would have been eighteen years old when this episode was taped.
  7. I just learned that Warren Leslie, the brother of Bethel Leslie, wrote scripts on The Secret Storm when his sister was one of the headwriters of that show.
  8. I think that Judith Light (Karen Woleck #2 on One Life to Live) would have been a very good Alice Frame replacement. She replaced Kathryn Breech in that role with ease. Another actress that I think should have been considered is Leigh Lassen (Patti Tate Whiting on Search for Tomorrow). I don't know if Lara Parker (Dark Shadows) would have been the correct age (possibly being too old). And I think that Rita McLaughlin (The Secret Storm, As the World Turns) would have been good too, but she may have not been old enough.
  9. The wig looks better than the one that Lara Parker wore as Cassandra Blair Collins on Dark Shadows in 1967.
  10. When did Gerald Gordon begin his role on The Doctors. I think that he could have played Burke Devlin on Dark Shadows well. Certainly better than Burke #2, Anthony George.
  11. Her talent is one reason that it is such a shame that Another World failed to use her on that show.
  12. I liked Kelly and Ian together.
  13. I have been watching Pamela Toll on The Doctors' reruns. I had never seen her before her Somerset role. I had only known her as Pammy Davis on Somerset. I liked her in that role. Pammy seemed a much younger, juvenile role than Liz on The Doctors. I am finding that she was excellent in both types of roles. I cannot remember if Pammy was a high school student at the beginning of Another World: Somerset or not, but her a large portion of her scenes were with high school characters and with Sandy Buchanan. Was Pammy after David Grant? On this show, she is a young actress, but the character seems much more mature (even more mature than Dr. Bellini on The Doctors). I am not sure why she departed Somerset, although it was probably due to a change in the writer (Robert Cenedalla created the role, but Henry Slesar became the new headwriter. Her parents were written off, so maybe she was too.) She had a role in at least one Walt Disney movie. I never saw that, but I suspect that she was again playing a younger, less sophisticated character. I also have spotted her in commercials over the years. I read that she was also in a famous music video.

  15. Paul R. Price, the actor who was credited as having played The Janitor, was also a writer, story editor, and director of primetime shows later in his career.
  16. I don't know if he is called "Noel" or not. (I suspect that this name was used because the episode was for Christmas.) But one of them is actor Paul Michael Glaser prior to being cast as Dr. Pete Chernak on CBS's Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. Also, Danny has been played by Donnie Melvin. Mr. Melvin was the final actor to play Petey Dunbar on The Secret Storm. He appeared on that show during the time that Alan Dunbar returned.
  17. I have not seen Margaret DePriest yet as Mrs. Burger. Who is this character?
  18. Here is an interview with Marion Seldes: https://soundcloud.com/american-theatre-wing/episode-155

  20. You mentioned David Canary. Did you know that he had played a small role on Search for Tomorrow? I am not sure who he played, but he was on the show before he joined The Doctors, Another World, or All My Children.
  21. Today is the birthday of actress Christopher Norris. She is probably most remembered from the soap operas as being the final Sarah Capice on The Edge of Night. I don't know if she will be turning up on The Doctors, but it was 1967 (the year that they are showing) that she created the role of Penny Davis on The Doctors. I doubt that she was on the show for a very long period, either, because she said in an interview that she did not remember being on the show and that someone had to tell her that she had appeared on it. I first remember her as Sally, the girlfriend of Tom Hughes on As the World Turns.
  22. Marion Seldes, who had played Denise on Loving in 1994-1995, has passed away.
  23. Marion Seldes, who played Sonya Cramer (mother of Dorian, Addie, and Melinda) on One Life to Live has passed away.
  24. After I saw the first episode, I asked if the show may have been scored by Robert Colbert (and made the mistake of posting "Robert Costello.") It was confirmed that he was the show's composer or one of them.
  25. Yes, I mentioned that earlier. The patient was a businessman, I understand.
