  1. @DRW50, did you enjoy the Laurel/Ashley wedding? I thought it was cute and I was touched to see Harriet step up and perform the ceremony. That showed real character growth tonight. Olivia (Aaron's sister) helping out Gordon is just icky. I am not shocked that the writers went this route. I somewhat predicted it while watching the other day. Andy and Chrissie are just gross. I don't find this coupling to be appealing at all. I did find the scene where Sam saw naked to be the only funny thing about their scenes. The ending broke my heart but I should've known it was gonna happen. At least Ashley's final thoughts were at an all-time high. I wanted to cry for Laurel.
  2. RHOP is filming their reunion today:
  3. I really do wonder if this Hubbard story is what got DTC out the door. Surely they didn't plan for the big "death" to only last a week? It smells of rewrites. Nothing is ever Stacey's fault. The same mental illness that allows her to murder people and let her husband commit suicide for it also causes her to drop her panties for her friend's boyfriend. Martin has to forgive her because if he doesn't, viewers might not get the memo. I'd also guess that this is to set up Stacey again cheating on him with Kush or Ryan, because Stacey is now all but forced to stay with a man she does not like or love. Now that she's done with her thrilling "Are You There God? It's Me, Stacey Slater" saga, she has to find some type of pole to smoke. Wait until Kush or Ryan are dating another woman - then it's time to light 'em up. Martin is now Bradley 2.0 in every way. I can't bother with the Carter stuff as long as Shirley is involved. Do you think there was a rewrite b/c burying Claudette in the basement was so similar to the Calum plot on Corrie? I never got why DTC thought it was bright to emulate a similar plot that is currently occurring on another soap. Oh you already know that Stacey will be written as a saint for now until like you said, Kush or Ryan (once he is released from prison) find another woman. She'll then toss her equipment around to get all the attention b/c all the men must pine and love Stacey Slater. I swear they act like this character is some Helen of Troy when she is far from it. So agree that Martin is now the new Bradley. His whole existence is being Stacey's lapdog. So sad because Martin is a character that has so many ties to so many people on the Square and we hardly see him interact with those people. He's so isolated that it is sad. Shirley isn't the only annoying party in the daily woes of the Carters. Mick, Buster, and Linda are just as annoying too. I normally can't stand Nancy either but I actually find her endearing with this plot. Like I've said before, I hope the character leaves with her giving Mick her ass to kiss, but we know that won't happen. DTC will make St. Mick forgive Nancy, and Nancy gratefully accept it.
  4. Why is Kush still on the show? I can't bear to look at him much anymore. Sucks because I actually adored him when he first came on and pursued Shabnam. He's just so weak and spineless that many of the other men on this show. Speaking of weak men, I knew Martin would bend and go to Stacey. It irks my nerves how Stacey can do the unthinkable and all is forgiven. She never pays for her sins. Bradley, Max, Ryan, Kush, and now Martin excuse her actions. It's annoying. That's why I always preferred Janine and Chelsea b/c they were the few that called Stacey out on her sh-t. I cracked up laughing when Shirley had the gall to give Mick parental advice and not having anger towards one's child. I guess she forgot about Deano despite his unthinkable sin. I seriously hate the Carter clan and wish they'd go. I thought the scenes with Claudette, Vincent, and Donna were good, but it is obvious that Claudette will return down the line. Especially, when Gavin brings his withered faced ass back.
  5. Yeah. I am noticing in a lot of the 1983 episodes that Delia is still itching to be with Frank given the way he's treated and dogged her from reading a lot of synopsis on the show. I don't get that. After two bad runs with the Ryan's clan (Pat & Frank), you'd think she'd run for the hills. I'm sure it had to be frustrating for people to watch. From reading synopsis from '81, I actually don't mind Kimberly. But again, I haven't seen much from her time on the show. I've read that a lot of hardcore RH fans felt she ate the show a lot during that time.
  6. @vetsoapfan and @DRW50 do you both think that b/c so many of the characters were major turn-offs that it partially had something to do the show's waning ratings throughout it's history? Plus, I find it horrible to hear that Maeve, who is supposed to be a matriarch, would do something to cruel by giving Delia false stocks tips, thus causing her to lose her money.
  7. @Cheap21 Yes, boo! I've seen her new opening and it cracks me up all the time. re: New Jersey: Melissa was always sneaky but Jacqueline needs help. That bitch has always been one fry short of a Happy Meal.
  8. Give it time. I'm sure she'll be given Dobbs soon enough.
  9. True. I just can't get over how DTC is trying to push her as a doting grandma/matriarch nowadays. I see nothing of the such with Shirley.
  10. Oh Lord! Not a sex crime offender! I thought my boo looked sexy with that salt and pepper colored hair. I don't care for him being with Charity either but if I had to choose, I'd choose Charity over Debbie. At least she ain't a judgmental harridan like Debbie. I had to skip everything with Aaron/Robert and Andy/Chrissie. I think the way they've used the sexual abuse story for a romantic reunion and more generic Aaron angst is too much, and Andy and Chrissie are so cliched, they have no chemistry, and she's just a pathetic piece of trash. Seeing them whine about Robert is not of interest to me. The whole thing with Doug was odd. Did he really have no idea she'd know it was fake? The best part was probably Chris Chittell's performance reading the letter. He's good at that type of thing. I guess we are back with Leyla and Megan yet again because Leyla will end up with Jai (UGH), but I could do without it. When Megan decided to throw her "stripper" past in her face when Leyla was doing her a favor, I wanted Leyla to just tell her to shove it and walk out. I agree with you about the Ross stuff, but I have to admit that I enjoyed it, probably more than I've enjoyed anything with Ross in almost a year. He and Charity have a good banter between them and were fun to watch. The only weird part is for some reason the hair and makeup people made him look like Rolf Harris (an entertainer who was popular in the UK for generations until he was convicted for sex crimes against children). I guess it wasn't deliberate, but Parr got a lot of comments about it on Twitter.
  11. Meh. I wasn't moved by the woes of the Carters tonight. I thought the acting from the many of them was horrid. Danny Dyer does not need heavy, emotional scenes b/c he falls flat. His range is very limited. Shirley sobbing over Oliver made me roll my eyes. DTC kills me how he's been adamant in making Shirley some doting grandmother when we all know it is farce. With Nancy leaving, I hope they have her exit be unresolved as she leaves bitter at Mick, but knowing DTC, that won't happen. He'll have Mick forgive her and vice versa. I'd actually prefer Nancy leave with Tamwar telling Mick to go eat a d*ck and die but I doubt it'll happen.
  12. @DRW50 what are your thoughts on tonight's episode? *facepalm* at Doug finding something online to read at Laurel's wedding at it had nothing to do with her. I seriously cracked up over this. Ross robbing a jewelry store was so unbelievable. That would NEVER happen at a high end store like that. The retailer wouldn't've even turned her back on him in the slightest with him holding the jewelry. She would've removed them from his reach. That scene was just amateurish along with his getup. What is even more pathetic is that he only walked away with enough goods to pay 10k of the total 50k. Now we have to endure him and Charity pulling more schemes so she can get paid. The scenes with Robert and Aaron are always good. I love when they have Aaron and Robert have vulnerable, true moments with each other. What I don't get is how Chas still has a bone to pick with Robert seeing as he's been the main one trying to nail Gordon to the cross. I thought the ending where Gordon scratched 'LIAR' onto Aaron's car was eerie. IDK why Leyla folded and let Megan back in. I get she did it to possibly distract Megan from Eliza's medical woes but this has mayhem written all over it. Andy & Chrissie.... I found their scenes to be uber cheesy and not cute. It's not making me fall or root for the pairing at all. For once, I'd like Andy to find a real woman he can rely on and truly love him. Also, Lawrence being snippy to Andy just makes me pray even harder he is the one to bite the dust. I've never cared for this character of his sh-tty family.
  13. Oh wow. I didn't know those two were in the running for Alan. I still think that these two should've been offered other roles on the show. IMO, I think Joe would've been a good Ed recast and Jed would've been a good Mike recast as many have said.
  14. Now Chris is backpedaling: This pic is old, buddy. This was shot during the season when she was out shopping with Kandi and Cynthia. It wasn't shown on the show.
  15. So did y'all catch the shade THOTsha threw at Chris on Sunday's episode? Well Chris caught it and replied:
  16. I took it to mean less Val-ish and more that archetype (older woman with acidic barbs). I felt like they lost their way with Val in her last few years so I'm hoping they didn't mean a literal Val... I also agree that the Whites need to GTFO of Home Farm. They've never and will never work there. Characters keep being added in and just keep getting sucked into a black hole. I'd like to just burn it down at this point. With several Whites inside. I just hope someone tells him the show doesn't NEED bitchy cardboard cutouts hissing at each other. Emmerdale isn't that type of show. The only time it was was for a while with Sadie/Charity/Chloe, and you can't recreate that. I think I am just tired of this show trying to recapture the Tates. Especially Kim. That was an anomaly. It won't happen again. Sadie was damn near it with the Kings but even she (as much as I loved her) couldn't recapture it. I like how Natasha was a bit of contrast b/c she was icy cold and not as glamorous as Kim and Sadie were. Maybe they need to go this route if they do another Home Farm family. I just want a good Home Farm family and the Whites aren't cutting it. re: Val--I hope that what it is that they just want another older woman to be on the canvas. I'd prefer they not attempt to copy Val.
  17. I like that he wants to bring back friendships, but a lot of his points made me roll my eyes. The fact that he plans on making Chrissie a 'super bitch' is absurd. She's a weeping willow at best. Now I am supposed to believe that she is some bad ass? I think not. Plus, I do not care to see a bitch fight between Chrissie and Charity. To me, it's probably gonna be a knockoff Charity v. Sadie, and Chrissie is nothing like my beloved Sadie. Both of these broads need to be getting ready for a rest home. Not fighting over money and men, which I am sure it'll be all about. I think it is obvious that Lawrence will probably bite the bullet as we discussed earlier. I am fine with that; however, I need the Whites to move out of Home Farm in the process. They've been a fail Home Farm family. I'd prefer a new family come on a la the Tates, Kings, or Wyldes that bring drama, glitz and glamour, and mayhem. Slap Chrissie/Lachlan into some rinky-dink cottage and move on. I wasn't too thrilled that he said that they were bringing on a new Val-type character. I'd prefer for them to be a bit more original and not try and recapture the glory of a past character. There's only one Val.
  18. I am content with Lawrence going as it'll free Bernice and hopefully, she'll save Andy from being in a dreadful pairing with Chrissie. It's obvious they won't get rid of Lachlan or Chrissie in the near future. I am all for Chas and Cain's mother coming on if she's another maniacal character (a la Emma, Charity, Chrissie....). We have a canvas full already. I think we are about to get Leyla/Jai again too. I'm sure Megan and Sam will be thrown into the mix somehow too.
  19. OMG @DRW50 I was so gonna ask how you felt about Andy and Chrissie. I hate that poor Andy is about to latched onto this whiny sap. I just don't care for her. I didn't appreciate them having Andy bash Robert for wanting a settlement out of their marriage. Given that he covered up that she caused the helicopter crash, she could at least write him a check or something. I found her sticking it to Moira to be petty too. I wanted Moira to reach across the counter and deck her when Charity was using Noah to mess with Moira's emotions. I also don't like it that Charity is willing to give up Moses so quick given her history with Noah and Debbie. You'd think for once that they'd have Charity want to actually raise a child but I guess not. That's why I don't want Charity tossed back into Cain's orbit b/c I feel like she hasn't grown any. She's regressed if anything. While Cain still have his hard edges, he's actually matured with Moira and I love that about him. What are your opinion of Megan wanting to buy back into the business with Leyla? Do you think that Jai might serve an issue for them down the road, or will Leyla opt not to share Megan back her shares? It was also good tonight to see Harriet go on a date and find love post Ashley. While I like Laurel/Ashley, I always did feel bad that Harriet got the short end of the stick.
  20. A lot of the popularity Jill had, especially in the first year, was down to Nancy Addison IMO, as she was one of the most exquisitely beautiful, talented soap actresses around. Her actions and the affair with Frank was just sleazy and the idea of her waiting around years for Frank #1 (who was just a dull middle aged looking man who could barely speak) was laughable. The idea that viewers were supposed to root for their eternal love and that he'd been manipulated into marriage by Delia because he had a hero complex and so on didn't make it any less skeevy. That's likely why they ramped up Delia's nastiness. I read an article once where Ilene Kristen said she had expected a lot more hate from viewers than she ended up getting. I think that's because most of the characters on the show who hated Delia were often insufferable (especially Faith and Mary). Yes, I adore Mary but she can be sanctimonious from what I've went back and watched as of late. I like Siobhan and Pat, as they seem to not be the golden kids likes Frank & Mary, and they typically marched to the beats of their own drums until recasts came in and it seem they started to become preachy like the rest of the Ryans. I like Delia even though she can be childish at time and I never understood the need for her to wanna be apart of the Ryans so desperately. Did she eventually move out of the Ryan's orbit and find solace elsewhere? Jill seems compelling but yeah.... I do find her waiting for Frank to be pathetic. Much like Faith waited for Pat.
  21. Been sitting down and watching a lot of RH as of late and I am wondering why Jill was so beloved by fans during this era when a character like her (the mistress) would be disliked nowadays? I find myself gravitating towards Delia more than Jill.
  22. ^ I got that too with Peter Simon. He was too meek (and weak) to be a patriarch. His Ed lacked a backbone and it was jarring seeing him go toe to toe with the likes of Roger.
  23. You're welcome. Claire played a pivotal role in Michelle's adult life though. I just wish they didn't write her into a corner and then send her off as a deadbeat mother yet again. I think Claire could've added so much had she stayed long-term the 2nd run. I fell off with GL by the late 90s but yeah, it seems like after Maureen's death that would have been the best time to return Claire to Springfield. I feel like both GL and ATWT had this in common- the last decade and a half or so of the show's existence, both shows seemed to do Mother/Daughter relationships so poorly after having done so well in the previous decades. I don't think it was just mother/daughter, I think P&G shows started to suck all across the board with generational bonds whether it is familial, friendly, or communal. What made a lot of people love these shows were how they had the chaotic youthful characters but you had a Greek chorus behind the youthful characters to guide and balance them. We didn't have that in the last decade of GL/ATWT, and haven't on any of the remaining shows. Instead, the older characters do stupid sh*t while the younger characters have taken the role as the Greek chorus. We don't have that anymore. We rarely see them interacting and forming bonds. It's all so isolated.
  24. You're welcome. Claire played a pivotal role in Michelle's adult life though. I just wish they didn't write her into a corner and then send her off as a deadbeat mother yet again. I think Claire could've added so much had she stayed long-term the 2nd run.
  25. True but they could just have Jason leave b/c he wants to explore life outside of Weatherfield. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. He could've came to the conclusion that he wanted to go and live with his dad for some time.
