  1. Here's a thought...how about some watchable storylines and decent production values? Or are we asking too much?
  2. Say what you will about Days but it gets people talking... Wayne returning as Roman-well he has not aged well, especially as Deidre is almost ageless, so purely from a shallow physical standpoint, John is a better match for Marlena. Just as Josh's Roman has never been used as viable alternative to John, despite the history. So the writing/plotting would have to be superstrong to give Wayne a chance. Over to you Ron...
  3. According to SOD Jack's absence from GC over Xmas and into the New Year is due to Peter Bergman needed emergency surgery due to a detached retina. Mishael Morgan had the same issue and Peter says they talked on the phone during his recovery. He returned to the set in time for the Y&R Xmas party. So it looks like Jack will be offscreen for a few weeks.
  4. Knots Landing was known as 'Couples' and 'Cul De Sac' while in development.
  5. Happy New Year! To take us into 2022 Robin Greer Jean Simmons Donald Woods June Travis Sabryn Genet
  6. The stability of the cast is a double edged sword. It's great to see familiar faces and have that comforting connection. The downside is that years of marriages, kidnappings, brushes with death etc its hard to maintain interest as those characters are caught in repetitive cycles. Victoria blathering on how Ashland is the love of her life, she's never been happier and her wedding day is her best ever loses its luster when she said the same thing on 5 or so previous occasions.
  7. Michel Romano His Bachelor's Children role should be DA McCauley
  8. Jim Antonio Pilots/Proposals Delta County USA Jim the Bear 1977 Joanna Miles Pilot/Proposals Delta County USA 1977 Kate McCain Nicholas 1977 Joseph Taylor Days of Our Lives General Hospital Another World Love of Life Edge of Night
  9. To compare Nick's intro in 95(?) under Bell to Devon is a little unfair in that as we know Bell's approach has never been duplicated under successive regimes. Look at Reed and Noah - the next generation of Newman males -aged up and given very little to do. Reed has disappeared and Noah is on what, his 3rd recast? He's still an ill defined character. Same with Kyle-he came and went until Michael Mealor, and you could still argue that the character wasn't ever consistent. Scott, Fen, Charlie , Mattie -the list goes on. Devon was merely the first in along line of partially ignored and poorly written characters.
  10. Y&R has so many off camera characters with potential that a soft revamp is definitely possible. Fen, Scott, Reed, Ronan, Ana, Tucker, etc etc.
  11. Pretty much consisted of her stating 'backstage agendas' when anyone asked for more info from her. I think Sean Dominic had that potential but with no workplace, home and a bland 'love story' that consists of catch ups in restaurants...
  12. Devon was definitely an afterthought at that time.' Very strange. Maybe that's when he should have been recast with a more charismatic and sexy actor. I like Bryton-he seems a nice guy, and his acting is OK but Devon comes across as so bland.
  13. Jeanne definitely spoke out that she hated the story. Making Devon Katherine's grandson was adding insult to injury. It was just the culmination of one misjudged story decision after another. Having Devon as a billionaire is a story dead end. I proposed the same outcome years ago. And Katherine discovered her daughter became a nun and devoted herself to good works before dying. That would have wrapped up that story for good. Instead we had Tucker, who happened to be Katherine's son, and happened to have an affair with Harmony, who gave birth to Devon, who happened to be adopted by Neil etc
  14. Thanks for that clip.It really illustrates how the directing was part of the story telling. We even had that 'soap' shot where both face the camera, so one is actually talking to the others back. I think, (wrongly) that has been deemed as old fashioned. My point is that once upon a time, there was dry blocking and dress rehearsal etc so the actors/camera people had time to co-ordinate all these moves and make changes etc. Whereas now I think they only have a quick run through and then tape, so there isn't the time available to execute the director's vision. Occasionally there are some interesting angles used but overall nothing of this level.
  15. One thing I noticed in that 86 episode was the camera work and staging. Obviously, as they had more time then, the actors and camera moved around quite a bit more, which added to the visual and dramatic impact. Nowadays, everybody pretty much stands still and the camera angles are static throughout the scene. Also, the constant music underscore added to the drama.
  16. When was the last time Maggie was at the Hortons for the ornament ceremony? She was apart of that family for years...but that seems to have been erased.
  17. Marland spent time establishing the Reardons as a new family but subsequent writers were more interested in their own creations and slowly the Reardons (and the Bauers) were dropped. There was still plenty of potential for those characters eg Tony,Jim but Pam Long and others were hell bent on pushing the Shaynes and the Coopers. The same thing happened to the Matthews. McKinnons and Loves on AW.
  18. In contrast Marland said he enjoyed writing 'Young Love' stories because that very lack of life experience would lead them to make less wise, but forgiveable choices. Also, that kept the plot bubbling along. Older viewers would tut, tut and muse on the folly of youth while younger viewers would eat it up.

  20. A thought. As much as I hate SORASING and think Phyllis id disposable at this point... Why not bring in her grandaughter Lucy? She is roughly the same age as Faith and Moses, so could provide some much needed oomph to their non story. She could land on Phyllis' doorstep and demand her gran steps up to provide some support. Have Phyllis feel guilty that she hasn't had much interaction. Maybe Daniel returns for a few eps to give some context. While he's in town he could hook up with his ex Lily to provide angst for her and Billy. Of course, Lucy being a spoiler for Faith/Moses would bring Phyllis into conflict with Sharon and Nick,Victor and Nikki. Lots of story possibilities. The big stumbling block is whether the show and La Staff would want Phyllis as a grandmother. What do you think??
  21. Doug Watson came on as Mac in August 74. Mac and Rachel married in Feb 75, so the courtship was brief (in soap terms). Robert and Lenore were married about a year March 74-June 75. Not sure how much time they were a couple before that -most 73?
  22. An astute observation. Lemay's characters seemed to be attracted quickly and just as ready to break up and move on. As one quote put it, you watched to see what is happening , rather than what will happen.
  23. I gave up after the Tuscan wedding and tuned back in for new Chance (miscast) and Jill's return. But there is nothing to get me to watch again. The dreadful cheap production and the awful stories/wasted potential...
  24. Did Shane and Kimberley on Days ever get back together? Might have been nice for Days 50th to have Bill and Laura remarry.
