  1. @DaytimeFan  This is astounding news. :o I hope this is just a case of the money from the Bridgehampton sale having been put it into two accounts which still bear interest but which might not be legally defined as 'trusts,' and consequently this lawsuit seeks to rectify that.

I *REALLY* hope this is not a case of Luann forgetting to put the money in trust all these years... or worse, the money is all gone. I don't understand this sudden turn given that the Count, Noel and Victoria spent Independence Day with Luann and everybody seemed on great terms. The ever-wise Judge Judy usually recommends that close family members reflect before suing one another, because the relationship thereafter will be irrevocably affected.

I hope they sort it out amicably and transparently. This has the potential to implode their family relationship.

Luann talk-growling her way through Money Can't Buy You Class (with Billy Strich -- son of Elaine Strich, piano-player to Liza Minnelli -- accompanying) gave me all kinds of Classic NY vibes. It reminded me of when Luann first recorded MCBYC in the studio, and tried to reach that high note ("Elegance is lear -- err -- err -- errrrrnedddddd") -- and couldn't.

Carole says Mouth-Breather wants to get back with her but she's too busy to give a sh!t?  Oh Carole, please. You're so dickmatized by that patchouli-scented Man-Bun. I wish Carole would realise she can do better, but her "I have 5 good summers left" comment 5 years' ago is definitely weighing on her this season.

Tinsley moving -- I no curr.

Dorinda and Luann lighting a candle at church -- I loved it because this is what family members would do if I was going through a rough patch. It's why I cannot hate Dorinda.

Sonja is the gift that keeps on giving! After last season's bad-tempered pettiness, she seems a lot happier with herself -- even if she is trawling the back of her sofa for pennies. Her lines may be corny, but they come from a real place. Contrast that with Bethenny barking at the poor red-scarved dude "WHAT YOU WANNA BLOW JOB OR SOMETHING TELL ME AND I'LL DO IT." Bethenny tries super hard to be funny, but sometimes it misses. And sometimes it hits the mark! I had to rewind her Ramona impress three times! I wish I could find a gif of it.

The dude who whispered to Sonja about leaving marks on her ass, yikes. Serial killah vibes!

Haven't seen Sunday's show yet, but hubby & I are booking our place this week in Antibes. Nice place? :) We were also looking at a beautiful seaside view in Cannes but our friends will be staying in Nice so we wanted to be a little bit closer to them.

I don't think you can ever go wrong with Antibes, Cap d'Antibes or Juan les Pins! (They are all in the commune of Antibes). And you are right to be near Nice which is truly a lovely city with lots going on. I dont think you will regret your choice, though I have never stayed in Antibes myself. The bay is gorgeous though!

I hope the trip meets you and your hubby's expectations, and then some.:)

TamaraTattles is reporting that Kenya is done.

Won't be coming back for S11.

I am totally shocked. Given all that Kenya is currently giving us on social media, this is a boneheaded move by Bravo.

  3. Gizelle is just so evil and nasty that I couldn't even bring myself to link her awful blog covering this week's episode here. She is labouring under the heavy delusion that the audience is on her side when it comes to both Karen and Monique.

@DaytimeFan I'm so glad you posted your thoughts! I kept wondering what you would make of the Cannes footage. Le Martinez (where To Catch a Thief was partly filmed), along with the Negresco in Nice and l'Hotel de Paris in Monaco are considered the three most prestigious hotels in the SofF. And next week's location footage looks especially gorgeous! I can't wait to see everybody have fun amid the glorious scenery while the two losers go sulk on their own.

  4. Gizelle almost fooled me into believing she was a functioning human being when she trotted out her mom + daughters. Then she showed her ass in Cannes, and it was back to regularly scheduled programming. Gizelle is dead-set on ruining this vacation for Monique and Karen, and if I was Monique, I would send her back to DC on the next flight.

Robyn's sly, mean smiles every time Monique makes an overture to her -- what does she have to be smug about? Monique should send her ass back to DC, too. In coach.

Ashley "I heard from an impeccable source...." Camera cuts to shifty Charrisse. I don't doubt that Karen is living in a townhouse and using the Great Falls place for filming purposes. However, I also don't care. Karen is the best HW on this franchise and gives me life on a weekly basis the way she schools those jealous stank-faces.

    Hush, Candiass. No-one cares.

Best fashion on this trip: Ashley.

    Worst fashion: K Mart Robyn.

Gizelle is a miserable bitch. And Karen blows her ass out of the water...Every. Single. Time.

Not just a miserable bitch, but a dumb one. If this purported 'cosmetics mogul' thinks visiting Grasse (the epicentre of France's perfume/beauty empire and a stunning vista of flower fields) is boring, then she is in the wrong damn business! As usual, Karen hands Gizelle her ass because Karen remains the queen of this franchise and Gizelle a foolish wannabe. Somebody recently compared Karen to Vicki and Gizelle to Tamra, and wow, if I was Evil Genius Tamra, I would be so mad at being aligned in any way to G.

I love that slow jazz version, and the opening notes of Hold on to Love mirroring the classic theme it replaced in 1991.  Just like when GH went from the ambulance to the Riche era open, the hints of the prior theme music at the beginning of the new theme was a smart way to go for longtime fans.

The only theme I think JFP got right was Guiding Light.  All the rest sucked.

DAYS is timeless, but I remember liking the opening notes of the more gothic version that aired during Reilly’s return to the show.  It only aired for a few months, if even that long.  I didn’t want it to replace the other one, I just kind of dig the opening notes.

Orchestral and majestic! In a way its value is that they used it sparingly, for a rather special moment in time, because Reilly's return was so hyped and mediatised.

I loved Wendy Riche's Faces of the Heart, but one thing I missed about the Roaring Ambulance days of GH was its epic CLOSING credits music. It always gave me a lump in the throat.

Her GH opens were awful.  Luke walking away from a room full of people no longer on the show for years was ridiculous.  The one after it was even worse.

A room full of people she fired! It was the strangest part of that terrible opening sequence.

The other issue I had with it was how she buried headshots of Stuart Damon, Jackie Zeman and Leslie Charleson in “blink and you miss them” visual effects while Maurice Benard and her other pets had long lingering shots.

The Faces of the Heart opening treated the cast fairly so of course it had to go under JFP.

It's such an awful, generic, budget opening -- basically like almost every opening JFP has ever done (aka a ripoff of the ER opening credits). The people she callously fired (but wants to pretend she didn't) are buried amid the flashing lights and jump cuts, because HISTORY! WE RESPECT HISTORY! HERE IS YOUR GODDAMN HISTORY, GH FANS. It is at this point that Faces of the Heart goes truly off the rails and turns into the theme for The Leeza Show.

The end is basically all of JFP's pets in a room in tuxes --- of yeah, and they all happen to be male! Then Tony Geary walks off in some 'hilarious' f*ck-you to the GH audience he always despised. Touché, asswipe.

  8. This thread is epic. I've just spent hours watching the different openings, even the shows I never watched before. For me, a nostalgia hound, the oldies are the true goodies: the later revisions tried to make the shows 'modern' but failed to capture the essence of a show imo. Days is an outright classic which should never be touched. Before the days of YouTube, social media and viral marketing, soap openings were the only thing that I as a viewer had to trigger me into watching a show. AMC's pages turning opening may (by some, not me) have been considered 'old fashioned', but to me as a non-regular viewer, it was redolent with this gothic history I knew nothing about. It made me want to know more about a show and its backstory.

(I make an exception for GH's Faces of the Heart because it and the show meant so much to me at the time. The opening ambulance theme was GOLD though).

Consequently, my fave is Y&R's opening with Nadia's Theme and the line drawings which were somehow unfinished but managed to capture the intensity and beauty of the characters. Unpopular opinion, but the later addition of filmed actors turning to camera made the opening look a little dated. Still 80s Fabulous though.

B&B's original opening was so gorgeous and glossy, it looked like shots for a fashion magazine. It does not date.

Santa Barbara's opening literally made me tingle with anticipation as a kid.

GL seemed to change its opening every year, huh. I have a particular fondness for the disco theme of the very early 80s lol.

If we are talking worst soap openings, I would nominate any that JFP touched in a tacky, tryhard attempt at notional relevance. But that's a subject for another thread...

I definitely remember last season being “Bethenny Frankel and the Housewives” with promo tie-ins and spinoffs and the narrative always being told through her eyes. That’s why I was glad we were “allowed” to see the majority of the women discussing Bethenny a few episodes back.

I thank God everyday for how good NY is right now. It is giving me life! Because despite one woman wielding all the power over them, the other women are not willing to put up with it anymore. And they aren't obsessed with appearing the good guy or the victim to do it. They put their messy asses out there, flaws and all. Sonja has made it her bread and butter! Dorinda has taken a hit this season, but she's still sloppily going for it. And Carole of all people leading the charge? Carole is not beloved by the fandom and had the most to lose. She is still a mean bitch but she's not pretending Bethenny stole her child or anything. She simply doesn't care about being Bethenny's beck and call girl anymore. It's real and harsh but weirdly relatable and thank goodness it is authentic. Thank goodness too that Luann's cop car had a camera with audio. The mess is here for all of us to see and frankly I like these women all the more for it. What a difference from BH, where everybody is strategizing like crazy and playing a role and desperate to be the good guy. They are literally petrified of showing their real selves.

I don’t know why anyone thinks Bethenny had Heather fired. Do you really think Carole would be friends with Bethenny if that were the case? Heather left on her own to focus on her business and also because of marital issues. She’s a smart cookie and wasn’t about to let that play out on TV and effect her personal and work life.

I wish she’d come back and take Tinsley’s place. Add Jill as a friend and we’d have the perfect cast!

To clarify: do I think Bethenny called up Bravo and shrieked "It's either me or Heather!" ? No. But I do think she has pull, and Bravo made things difficult for Heather, pressing her on showing her marriage problems, knowing Heather would say no. In any case, I am just speculating about Bethenny's involvement (or lack thereof). I do think B had a hand in Jules firing because she practically bragged about it on her radio show at the time.

IA, I would really enjoy having Heather back and Jill, too. However, I don't think Heather trusts Bravo all that much and the question is: who besides Carole would Heather become close with? She doesn't have many allies in this group. :(

I know people have mentioned how Tamra and Gretchen fell out eventually, I guess this season they were showing as Tamra's second season. What was the drama with Tamra/Gretchen/Ryan again? I saw one episode of Gretchen being drunk and Ryan flirting, but nothing appeared to come of it the following episode. I take it from comments that it snowballs? In any case, it's the 4th of July today so I had to run around. And now...I kinda want to know what happened?

Well, the episode you talk about has to be seen to be believed. I hope you get a chance to view it one day because it was the original Dinner Party From Hell, rife with tiny quirky details. Gretchen was considered an Anna Nicole type golddigger. There were rumours of her leaving Jeff at home while he was going through convalescence to party on the down low. Tamra was determined to expose her and figured that a younger man was Gretchen's Achilles heel: specifically Ryan. So she organised a big dinner party and plied Gretchen with alcohol from the moment she arrived. The cameras caught Tamra whispering to Vicki that they were going to get Gretchen "naked wasted" -- which she already was, as by that point she was trying to dry-hump poor Don at the dinner table. Gretchen had to stumble to the ladies room so Ryan followed her and a cameraman tried to follow him but failed. Still, Gretchen was miked up and the sound crew managed to catch a possible kiss before Gretchen told him to stop and leave. Which he did because... the cameraman was right outside the door, probably! In this age of MeToo, the whole setup was sketchy as f, but even back in the day, it was tiptoeing the line of whether Tamra had pimped out her son to take advantage of Gretchen while she was highly intoxicated. It didn't go further than a few seconds in the bathroom, but Tamra was lucky she didn't have a lawsuit on her hands. It was probably the most contested episode of the season.

I remember when we were all watching at the time that we noted it had become Bethenny Frankel’s Housewives of New York. The propping of Bethenny was nauseating. Season 10 is working for me because it seems the cast as a whole is no longer scared of the wrath of Frankel.

Yeah, they were afraid because she got Jules fired and probably Heather. She has basically turned into Jill Zarin, her biggest nemesis -- the difference being that she has legit bts power and that's why production give her the sweet edit.

After treating her co-stars like the hired help, I figured others besides Ramona would rebel. The ladies are stars in their own minds and will sooner or later refuse to play second fiddle. What is surprising is lazy-ass Carole (who relies on her friendships for free luxury vacations) would be this season's standard-bearer! I guess she didn't like Bethenny ordering her around either.

Season 10 is much more balanced, and I really like it that way. It actually helps me enjoy Bethenny a little bit more ! Just a little bit.

Just rewatched season 8 of RHONY in like three days so here are some stray thoughts.

The Bethenny and Carole friendship is far inferior to the Carole and Heather one where they actually felt like equals and you could just tell how much they genuinely enjoyed each other.

God season 8 was the start of the constant Tom mentions and it was so f.ucking annoying. Honestly rewatching season 8 has made me not feel bad for Luann at all. She was so damn obnoxious after she met Tom.

Jules...what to say...I didn’t like her at the start of the season but she ended up winning me over. She was quirky. I would’ve liked to see her get a second season.

Bethenny sucks most of the season. Like a lot. It’ll be interesting to watch season 9 again when Bethenny is clearly trying to repair her image.

Sonja lamenting about losing a f.uck buddy we never even knew she had in Tom is pretty obnoxious and annoying as well.

I couldn’t watch the whole reunion. It was toxic similar to the season 4 reunion. And Bethenny pretending like she didn’t already have a plan to call Dennis’ daughter, and the daughter sounded completely rehearsed. We’re not stupid Bethenny.

I totally see why John barely shows up now. He kinda sucked and the ladies ripped him to shreds.

It was an ok season but I felt season 7 was stronger. Plus we lost fun partying Luann.

THIS in a nutshell. I found seasons 8 and 9 to be by far the worst seasons of RHONY. Worse than season 4, worse than leg-throwing season 6. S8 is hard to watch towards the end with the million Tom mentions, the plotting against and laughing at Luann, the reunion. Bethenny almost made me quit the show. And season 9 isn't much better: one SL (Ramona vs Bethenny), and there was so much Bethenny content (Bethenny and Skinnygirl! Bethenny and her Skinnygirl snowboard! Skinnygirl luge! Skinnygirl tequila! Bethenny and Fredrik flipping real estate!) that it literally became The Bethenny Show. No other HW got a look-in. The show was trying so hard with the contrived Ramona stuff to force me to sympathise with poor victim Bethenny, but I just couldn't. It almost lost me as a viewer.

(Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a Bethenny bash lol but it really bothered me the propping she got the last two seasons. Ok I'll stop now lol).

I am so looking forward to next week's episode because I'm going to France - Paris and Nice - in September (my first trip out of the USA, yay!) and the hubby & I are totally open to suggestions when we're in the south of France.

I have a BILLION suggestions for both cities, but as far as Nice is concerned, do stroll in the streets near Le Promenade des Anglais (the beachfront) -- truly relaxing and lovely city which was under Italian rule for two centuries once upon a time! Also, if you can rent a car or get a driver, go to the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild two towns over from Nice, in St Jean de Cap Ferrat (https://www.villa-ephrussi.com/en/discover). It is truly exquisite and the gorgeous gardens that look over two bays are magnificent. St Jean de Cap Ferrat is literally one of the most beautiful little towns on the Riviera. Oh! And if you get a chance to drive into the hills? Visit St. Paul de Vence (https://www.saint-pauldevence.com/en/). Without a shadow of a doubt.

I'm sure @DaytimeFan will have amazing suggestions.

Michael and Ashley's mom are the same age, apparently.

Also: did anybody notice that Gizelle's text declined the France invite for herself and her puppet Robyn? And when Robyn was asked at the end, she turned to Giz for permission and had to ask "Gizelle?"

  16. Potomac

I feel like I already watched half this episode because Bravo leaked so many scenes onto YouTube. With that said, Karen schooled Gizelle's nasty, jealous ass, and she was wearing the world's best wig to boot.

Gizelle stays being a miserable, jealous beyotch. Monique should have smacked her dentures out when she told Monique that she would only be hanging with Robyn and Ashley on the Cannes trip. If I were Monique, I would have told Production to leave Jizz & Rob 'Em's bitter asses at home!

Candy-ass ( copyright @DaytimeFan and I can't read her name as anything other than that) and Chris at the pre-nupt lawyer's office -- um, what assets do these penniless fools have to protect? The only thing more ridiculous would have been if Robyn & Juan had shown up for a pre-nupt meeting!

I loved Monique with her sweet kids making the invites. As DaytimeFan said, the South of France is truly one of the most breath-taking, ravishing places on earth.

Ashley's mom pushing her way to sit beside Michael... lol! Was she trying to silent-shame him into paying her rent? I am more and more convinced that Ashley's mom pressured her into covering her expenses, and that's why Ashley reunited with Michael. And Michael knows this all too well. He is totally checked out of that marriage and is biding his time to make it official.

I also agree. The RHOA Season 4 reunion is still one of the best reunions start to finish. I would say this past reunion with the dragging of Wig was an awesome one as well with Kenya vs Struggleface...I mean my girl Marlo.

You make me realize that I haven't watched the recent Melbourne season. So are you saying that Gina does not come out well like she usually does a la season two curse bad?

Nope, I thought she came out fine! She is very consistent in how she comes across, and this is still the same Gina as we knew her in previous seasons. There is always a fear that a fave like Gina will be hit by the season two curse, and just when I think she might be staring into the curse's abyss, she manages to pull back and remind me why I enjoy her so much. Her personality, her wit, her smarts, her impassioned outbursts, her entire look -- she is the show. But just like the others, she is human and has her flaws. Still love her though!

Hope you get a chance to watch it -- it is literally only 12 episodes long and IMO it was the most quietly enjoyable season of the lot.

For me, season 4 was the best season of RHOA and will never be topped. It was the perfect balance of comedy and drama and the cast trip was epic. I also find that the best reunion in Real Housewives history. The shade and the reads were epic! The best modern season IMO was the Kim Fields one. I know many disliked her but I loved the different vibe she brought. I need variety and she provided it. By the time the reunion came around she fit right in.

Agreed on both counts. Season 4 was fantastic, on a par with S3 NYC, while Kim Fields' season (S7? S8?) was the best of the more recent seasons. I liked some of the sweetness she brought to the show and felt she was 100% authentic. Kim Fields' Year also had coked-up Tammy and the aggressive guy who tried to attack Kenya in Miami. And Porsha trying to straddle Cynthia in order to punch her and Cynthia donkey-kicking her away!

Oh I loooooove Melbourne! I just meant that Dallas gets all this attention when it isn’t even as good as one of the international offerings.

For me in recent years the best have been:

    1. RHONY

    2. Melbourne (never had a bad season)

    3. Potomac

Those three may not be perfect but you can always depend on them to deliver good seasons that aren’t too heavy and have a good variety. Beverly Hills and ATL are enjoyable but hit or miss and Dallas is simply okay for me. Cheshire I lost interest in ages ago.

On 30/06/2018 at 4:38 AM, DaytimeFan said:

Whew. Agreed on your top three. Melbourne has never had a bad season. I think it's the Australian sense of humour that keeps it going (though the same can't be said for the toxic Sydney). I do enjoy Dallas more than Beverly Hills but probably on par with OC. ATL is too hit or miss, even within a single season, for me to really enjoy it anymore (a lot of the time the behind the scenes with ATL is the most interesting part since that's a very leaky boat gossip wise). NJ I enjoyed last season, but I hadn't watched it in years.

100% agree regarding Melbourne. I don't think it should be considered a show apart just because it is international -- I enjoy it as much as I enjoy the US-based RH shows. In fact, I just finished watching Season 4 of Melbourne and IMO this was its best season yet! I would agree with your rankings in that OC, Melbourne, NYC and Potomac are among the most consistently entertaining of the RH shows. Though I tuned out of OC last year, this has not dimmed my excitement for the new season. I'm so relieved Meghan is finally gone, for a start! The same cannot be said of BH which I used to adore but which badly needs a revamp and multiple firings. People who refuse to play the game should be let go.

Shout out to Auckland which shone brightly its first season but will likely never return. :(

Back to Melbourne, I was glad Pettifleur left as she was exhausting. The jury is still out on whether Sally and Venus are great additions -- Gamble Breaux, they ain't -- but they are better than Petty Complaints. Venus was clearly put in there to be Gina's minion, the new Gamble, but she doesn't have Gamble's quick wit. Still, I thought there was a niceness underneath it all and that is a breath of fresh air on a show where the HWs DO. NOT. PLAY. Sally was a stuck-up snob, but wow did she ever trigger Gina! She reminded me of Andrea in that sense but without the poisonous disdain towards 'ordinary working mums' (a phrase I hope to never hear again).

The group is clearly split in two, and I can see good and bad points of both sides. I never feel like Production is trying to make me root for one group over the other (the same cannot be said for ATL, BH and NYC in recent times). I will always love Gina because even when I don't agree with her, she argues her case succinctly and I understand where she is coming from. Her alliance with Lydia confounds me given the way Lydia betrayed her in S1; I guess it is down to the fact that they are both second generation Italians who grew up knowing each other. Lydia remains the dumbest villainess that ever plotted, and that tickles me. She is very childlike in her meanness, thanks to her stunning lack of smarts, and I'm ok with that.! I've always liked the relationship between Jackie and Gina even though they are often on opposite sides; Jackie was better this season than in seasons past imo when she was pushing her wine (I hope we never hear of La Mascara again!) and trying to be the Ellen of Australia.

Gamble says so much stupid sh*t but she always wins me over with her fragile bird aura and her whip-sharp sense of humor. Janet I also love as well, although her gossiping behind people's backs continues to get her in hot water. Not sure if her and Jackie's friendship can withstand Lydia's allusion that Janet has been talking out of turn.

And finally Alex Perry, born Alexandros Pertsindis, is my favourite Reunion host ever!

YES I DID SEE THAT AND IT WAS THE BEST THING IN THE TRAILER!!! I know this is sacrilege to say, but imo the Dallas tv series of the 80s lacked a strong matriarch/strong daughter dynamic like Dee and D'Andra Simmons. There is no way Dina Mergeron isn't driving into that parking lot every day at 7.59am to let herself into the office, rummage through the paperwork on Ashley's desk and break into into her computer. I'm willing to bet that the glorious old lady chemists in the lab are keeping her abreast of things too!
