Ratings from the 1990s
Lets keep it real here. Fox, UPN, The WB built their networks off the backs of the African-American audience. Fox early hits besides Married with Children and The Simpsons were In Living Color, Martin, Living Single, New York Undercover. The shift came with peak 90210, Melrose taking off, X Files premiering, and Fox getting NFL broadcasting rights. In Living Color ended in 1994, Martin ended in 1997, and Living Single and New York Undercover ended in 1998. UPN and The WB sitcom line ups were mostly African-American focused but when their teen dramas took off, they cut back on the African-American sitcoms. I can't recall an African-American focused drama on either UPN or The WB.

Hahaha! First Silk Press Sheila, now New Dollar Bill. Karla Mosley is 43 going on 44, and its not like she's the first actress in the mid-40s age range to play mother to grown adults. Case in point, when Melody Thomas Scott was 44, she was playing mother to 26 year old Joshua Morrow and 25 year old Heather Tom.

Going by the timelines, Robert Newman had three runs (November 1981-November 1984, November 1986-January 1991, August 1993-the end) and Kim Zimmer had two runs (November 1983-July 1990, May 1995-the end). I'm guessing Kim Zimmer contract was done November 1989 but she probably signed a short extension to cover her pregnancy leave (her younger son was born February 1990) and for an exit storyline. I can't guess the contract timing for Robert Newman January 1991 departure but maybe he had an out clause.
