Reilly on DAYS - a renewed appreciation
I love these type of stories. To me, it’s classic soap. I like watching the bad guy scheme and doing whatever it takes to keep or get the person they’re obsessed with. And then it builds up to them getting busted. That is one of the things Reilly did very well during his first tenure at DAYS and at Passions. Vivian, Sami, and evil Kristen were so fun to watch.

Reilly on DAYS - a renewed appreciation
Wow, a Jim Reilly appreciation thread? Didn't expect to see that. LOL It was really nice to read all the positive stuff about Reilly in the 90's. I started watching soaps in 1993 with the buried alive story. I agree that it was his best work: buried alive, the affair aftermath, everything with Sami, Maison Blanche, the Possession, Aremid, Lady in a Cage, the Secret Room. One of the things Reilly did to great in the 90's were his villains: Stefano, Sami, Vivian, Peter, Tony, Kristen. They all schemed because of "love" and drove so much of the story. Another aspect that I really liked is that they had "sounding boards"/people to talk to, to vent, to explain their goals to, to help them with their schemes. You had Stefano/Celeste, Sami/Jaime, Vivian/Ivan, Tony/his driver(??? I forget his name), did Peter have a guy too? I forget. LOL Maybe it's because of the smaller budget of today's soaps, but you just don't have these type of characters anymore for your villains to talk to. I honestly don't remember much of his second stint, except for of course the serial killer storyline and Maleswen. But his first era was so good, and it really helped that the background music was excellent. It added so much to the stories. Beth's DAYS page! LOL Haven't heard about that in so long. There was also Dustin's DOOL Page, which was probably the first soap site I constantly visited.

I didn't like the album either. I only liked three songs: Easy on Me, Can I Get It, Oh My God. She said this in the interview with Vogue: And she still takes measures to avoid ramping up her fame. She avoided writing a certain kind of song for the next album, for instance. “There isn’t a bombastic ‘Hello,’ ” she tells me at one point. “But I don’t want another song like that. That song catapulted me in fame to another level that I don’t want to happen again. I’m not saying I’ve got ‘Hello’s in my pocket. I was just conscious that I didn’t want my story on this album to sound like that.” I love songs like: Someone Like You, Rolling in The Deep, Set Fire to The Rain, Turning Tables, Hello, Water Under The Bridge, Send My Love (To Your New Lover), When We Were Young. Those songs had very good melodies and production - they are tier 1 and tier 2 songs for me. The three songs that I liked on this new album are not tier 1 or tier 2 songs.

It’s amazing how a song that fans heard 9 years ago, a song that wasn’t a single, became such a fan favourite and became the quintessential Taylor Swift song. And after all those years, it’s now #1. When I heard Taylor was re-recording her albums, I hoped Love Story and All Too Well could somehow potentially reach #1. When Love Story didn’t get that much promotion (maybe because it was already a single?), I thought ATW wasn’t going to get that much attention either, at least not enough to reach #1. I’m glad I was wrong and I’m so happy ATW got the promotion and recognition it truly deserves. Taylor did that for us, her fans, because she knows how much the song means to us. Definitely so thankful to her. 😭😂 ATW is Taylor’s 8th #1 as an artist/writer, and 2nd #1 as a producer.

So close to beating Drake! Fantastic numbers for the re-release of Red, especially getting 61% in pure album sales (369,000 of the 605,000 units).

That's sad to hear. She was one of those writers who barely gets talked about, but she's worked in daytime for such a long time. RIP Elizabeth.

Agreed. She was really good this week and I like her new hairstyle. I’m enjoying this family drama. The show was actually watchable this week. Only three replies so far? 😂

Love seeing all the promotion for All Too Well which I believe is her best song - the lyrics, the vivid imagery, the emotional storytelling, the production of the music. It was always an album favorite of fans, and it usually made the top 5 whenever you see lists of her best songs. For years fans have been wanting to hear the 10 minute version ever since it was rumoured that this existed. This is just another example of Taylor being so incredibly generous to her fans. We also got a short film and a SNL performance. The 5 minute version is still my favourite because of the production. The 10 minute version has more of a softness to it, with less drums and less electric guitar but I still love it. It makes it different instead of just being a copy of the 5 minute version with added lyrics. I love the outro! What a perfect ending. I watched Sadie Sink on Stranger Things but this made me notice her. She’s a pretty good actress. Glad to see Taylor continuing to explore directing and getting more experience. I can definitely see her making a feature film one day. Can’t wait to see what Taylor has in store for the next re-release. I predict it’s going to be 1989.

EJ practicing the eyebrow lift funny. DF has been so good as EJ. I like that there’s some humour to him. If Tony gets the role of Tony, he should paraphrase a line from Tropic Thunder and be like, “I’m the dude, playing another dude, who pretended to be another dude…..and that dude was me.” 😂 MarDevil raising people from the dead if the first interesting thing in Possession 2.0.

Days of Our Lives: October 2021 Discussion Thread
Same here. Marlena was possessed on a Monday and John finds out on a Friday. Who's writing this? Brad Bell? LOL Johnny's movie being the beginning of Possession 2.0 is a great idea. Have bad things happen on set. Maybe someone is killed, or a couple of people. Turn it into a little bit of a murder mystery. Maybe the mystery backer of the film is Stefano (he's still alive on the show, right? He wasn't killed off?), which would be a red herring - we only see the body but never his voice and we only see his henchmen talk to him. And you know what would've been the perfect time to reveal the devil as the killer/mystery backer? The Olympic cliffhanger. Then you use those two weeks to promote that the devil is back in Salem.

Days of Our Lives: October 2021 Discussion Thread
I didn't like it. It was basically..... Devil: "Let me in, Marlena!" Marlena: "Fiiiiine." LOL There was no build up or suspense to it. And I agree with you that there's no emotional weight or gothic feel to the storyline. Yeah, I don't get why Marlena isn't telling John about the devil if she's aware of what's happening.
