  1. Based on the aired writing credits of 11/86-12/86, Schoettle is in 2nd position after Laiman. Maralyn Thoma is added to the credits on 2/27/87, before Schoettle. So, from 2/87-2/88 the aired credits list Laiman, Thoma, Schoettle. Then, during the strike, you are correct, it says Story By: Laiman, Schoettle. Then it's Laiman, Schoettle from end of strike to 3/89 when Anne Howard Bailey takes over. I would have to check the actual episodes to see if there is a space between the two names. I based the head writer lists off the ones confirmed in the soap books, as well as my research of the scripts. There is no space between Leah Laiman and any of the breakdown writers on the scripts (it just goes Laiman, Thoma, Schoettle, Breshears, Allen and then lists the dialogue writer of the specific episode). So, based on all that, plus the fact Thoma is in 2nd position for most of 1987 until the strike starts, I will keep them as breakdown writers.

  4. A LOOK BACK: 1995 HOLLYWOOD REPORTER AD: DRAKE HOGESTYN CONGRATULATES "DAYS" ON ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY...
  5. A LOOK BACK: DRAKE HOGESTYN'S FIRST MONTH ON "DAYS"...JANUARY 1986 DAILY CAST CHART
  6. They tape things all out of order, but I would guess either late January or early February.
  7. SOME ADDITIONAL SAD NEWS TO REPORT...DRAKE HOGESTYN'S FINAL EPISODE AS JOHN BLACK AIRED ON SEPTEMBER 9... I got the sad confirmation from "Days" tonight that Drake Hogestyn's final episode as John Black has already aired, on Monday, September 9. His final scene was with Eric Martsolf (Brady) and Leo Howard (Tate) at the Townhouse. Tate updates John that Holly has yet to read his text. John: "She will. And I am sure that she's going to take you up on it when she is ready." Brady opens the door. John's last line of dialogue (to Brady) is: "Does this mean that..." Brady tells John that Justin has dropped all the charges. John happily laughs and hugs Brady (pictured above).
  8. As I was preparing my post last night, I checked Twitter shortly before the news was made public, and it was more heartbreaking to see the fans were counting down to his birthday. So, if I wasn't already sad enough, that made it even worse.
  9. Rest in peace, Drake. Thank you for four decades of John Black. You were part of the first storyline I ever watched on "Days", The Cruise of Deception, in 1990. It was an honor getting to meet you at several fan events through the years. I always knew Salem was in good hands with John keeping an eye on things. My condolences to Victoria, his children and all of the "Days" family.

  12. There have been residuals in daytime contracts since at least the 1980's, so those would be residuals people are talking about. These are the residuals listed for a 1991 "Days of Our Lives" U/5 (under five lines) actor, so these were the standard residual rates for U/5 roles back in 1991. The principal (speaking) roles would have had a much higher residual rate, but this gives a good look at things in regars to daytime TV residuals in 1991, plus the rates for foreign use compensation (when Days would air in any other country):
  13. After posting the 1975-1979 specials ratings lists in the 70s thread, I've been working on the 1980's specials lists. Will start posting those soon!

  19. I checked the cast charts, and that doesn't seem to be correct. Stewart Bradley played Danton May-August 1967, then again November 1969 through 2/6/70, just as the inmate story began. I am only missing two U/5 inmates in the 4/1/70 episode (that would be the only possibility, but just less than 2 months after being Danton?), I have the rest of the actors for all roles throughout the inmate story. He was back as Danton in March 1971.
