GH: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Portia doesn't have a lot of nuance to me. She's written so harshly. During the Heather stuff, she was portrayed as a shrew when she was merely defending her daughter. She's desperate when it comes to Curtis. This Drew situation also isn't helping. I find Portia unlikable, and BK doesn't really do it for me. I just see Whitney Russell as a doctor. The writing and one-note acting need to change, IMO. Someone like Maura West knows how to give a character layers when the writing fails. But GH is wasting her talents. She should be driving and not settling for random airtime. Cynthia Watros is also being badly misused. She is a powerhouse, but her dialogue only consists of Drew and Willow.

B&B: July 2025 Discussion Thread
This makes me laugh because I knew I just missed some foolishness. My root canal made more medical sense than what I saw today. I used to love $Bill, when Bold wrote him as a force. I still think they should've gone all the way with him and Steffy, but here we are. I'm not sure why Bill isn't calling in the best specialists, and I must have missed it when Bill/Liam made up. This whole plot is so silly. Brad Bell is something else.

+1 to all of this. I'm also very confused as to why so many people needed to be involved in this cover up. If Vernon has connections, he has fixers other than Bill on speed dial. He could have just made a call and revealed a true dark side. No need for dirty cops, mobsters, hustlers and a plastic surgeon. The show needs a male Dupree who was exiled for being completely ruthless and would've damaged the family's reputation. It could be a way of explaining why Vernon is preoccupied with Martin, to "replace" his son.

The reveal also fell flat to me because I was also expecting more. My general feeling was, "That's it?" I figured that's what this was, but maybe Martin could've been doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing at the time of the incident. With that said, it is believable that Martin would not have been believed by the police or even the public. Some would've said he was playing the "race card." I wish they had played those beats since they're going there anyway. The writers also need to give Martin/Vernon some breathing room. They are each other's shadow. Vernon isn't this OTT with his other grandkids and Ted/Martin barely have a connection. I wish they'd commit to making a Dupree a flat-out villain. Vernon acting simple that he didn't know murder would be involved is a choice. On a superficial note, Tamara Tunie looked amazing. Anita Dupree always looks so regal. She has the best wigs on the show.

Is Dr. Buckingham a fraud? She seemed desperate to be paid right then and there. I know budgets are small, but Liam was up and about after being shot and about to have another surgery in a small room with only one doctor. I don't know what happened next because I couldn't take much more of it. Even if the bad acting is fun to watch in its own way.

I have Y&R in the background and I just keep wondering when they're all going home. People eventually left the Jeff Bezos wedding and Cane isn't that important to stick around for.

GH: July 2025 Discussion Thread
GH has a bad pattern of motherhood being so explicitly black and white. It's unsettling and feels like an agenda is being pushed. I hate the way Gio treats Brook. I'm all for angst, but it's low-hanging fruit for him to whine that his birth mother didn't want him. As if he's a child who can't understand why a teenager couldn't be a mother? Moreover, he had a mother who loved him. It's blood or nothing with this show.

BTG: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Standing ovation. How has any of this material left the writer's room and greenlit by CBS? At this point, I wouldn't be opposed to the writers enlisting ChatGPT to help with the story beats, structure and giving characters rooting value. I want Black representation on soaps but someone who knows what they're doing needs to step in. I said it and I mean it. I'd also add the Naomi acts more like a social worker (nothing wrong with that but isn't she a lawyer?) and since Bill/Dani are divorced, and Dani has been so openly hostile to Bill, wouldn't the press find it curious that Bill was at the press conference at a restaurant? Any why Bill and not Ted? It's always Vernon and it's gotten weird now. Also, why would Martin not even tell anyone in his family? And what if someone needed to eat food that day? Come back later because a politician has rented out the place? To be honest, I don't care about Martin or his secret. I gave up on DAYS and if things do not turn around by the fall/winter, I can do the same with this show.

BTG: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Kat is very unlikable. I don't like all this "illegitimate" stuff. It's off-putting to constantly put Eva down about who her father is. The character is technically in the right but she's so ugh and nasty. And they can tone it down with the whole "Your mother..." lines. We know where that is going. I screamed and laughed when Nicole lunged at Leslie. She had that coming. It should be Nicole having the affair to get her groove back. Dani is hopeless and less is more with her. Same with CM and Pamela. I can't believe this is the same actress who played Dixie and Rosanna, characters I loved.

Daytime Emmy Nominees
I still get chills watching her win. It was long overdue. Now, the competition was stiff over the years. Erika Slezak deserved her wins, but it became obvious that the Academy was using her for ratings. But what a moment this was. *The streak is overrrrrrrrrrrrrr!* I only felt this way again when Beyoncé won for "Cowboy Carter" at the Grammys. Although, I'd love to see Sharon Case win for lead this year and for Becky Herbst to finally get a win. But she'd have to get a story first....

Daytime Emmy Nominees
Jonathan Jackson too. These nominees are interesting choices. Industry politics are always at play but it's so blatant here. SSH deserved recognition more than JJ. But it is what it is. GR seems like a nice person, but I'd never consider him a lead. Choices, indeed with these nominees. I agree that the Emmys stopped being relevant once Susan Lucci won hers.

Yup. And I love that they're both messy. Although, I wish Dante seemed more torn between the two. He feels....just there. I'm not sure what I'd have him doing, but his character is so reactive. I'm more intrigued by who Tracy sides with now that Brooke Lynn is getting her lick back.

Co-sign 1,000 times. He has just ruined his father's legacy. Once I realized that the Emmy bait of Liam dying was not leading anywhere and the Steffy obsession was not abating, I tuned out again. I can't reward Brad Bell with hate viewing.

GH: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Count me in as another person who can't stand Laura. They writers have made her into a pretzel that defends all the bozos in town. I thought the character was hard to take when she defended Esme and then Heather, but the Sonny worship is so OTT. Brook Lynn vs. Lulu is a good rivalry. Both can be annoying, especially Lulu, but I appreciate the back and forth and slaps! Sasha needs to be retooled. She is such a Mary Sue, and I'll never buy that a supermodel wants to be a cook. Or that she's Robert and Holly's love child. Emma is a great recast. So much rooting value there. She's one of the few likable female characters on the show, IMO.

Y&R: July 2025 Discussion Thread
I hate how they shoehorn "Dumas" into the dialogue; the way the characters keep repeating that name. It only works when Victor goes on and on about "I'm Victor Newman, dammit!" I wish there were a solid B story on the show. Or at least one that kept my interest.

BTG: Encore Discussion Thread
Very true. I truly hope BTG rises to the challenge. I'm a writer myself, and the most honest thing my friend ever told me about my draft was, "Love you, but this sucks." So, I get it. This is MVJ's baby, but all feedback isn't bad, even if it hurts or strays from the vision.

Y&R: July 2025 Discussion Thread
My interest in this show is low, but I was curious about who Billy Flynn would be playing. Cane is such a letdown. Surprised they killed off Cole. But if it snaps Claire out of her Mary Poppins routine, so be it. So many bittersweet feelings watching Amanda and Devon this week. MM should still be Hilary!

Yes, I fixed my typo. @Vanguardian53 Thank you. I don't believe you want the show to fail as some have suggested. But there are issues with it. Dani/Hayley/Bill should've started mid affair. I don't buy Hayley and Naomi as friends at all and Dani's a flop to me. I tried to get into her but a 50-year-old Theresa Lopez Fitzgerald is unappealing. A week of reruns is not ideal but hopefully, this is what's needed for a reset. I want this show to be on the air for a long time. I'd like it to be without the heavy hand of CBS but the show runners are making it hard to keep interest with the way things are.

GH: July 2025 Discussion Thread
The show was really good during the Nurses Ball fallout and introduction of the new Michael. But it's fallen flat since then. It's telling that GH recognizes that Natalia was a bust, but Kristina is still on the canvas. She is beyond unlikable. Filed under things that will never happen, but GH needs to cut its losses with Sonny/MB. Both are a drain on the show. Sonny is tired and MB barely tries anymore.

BTG: Encore Discussion Thread
I lost interest in "BTG" early on and have often gone days without watching, and when I do tune in again, it doesn't feel as if I've missed anything. As a longtime soap viewer and someone who wanted to give this show a chance, I should not feel that way. Given the political climate, I can easily buy that CBS may want out and/or is impatient with the growth of viewership. But I also think it's more nuanced. Most of the stories are boring and don't make a lick of sense. A Supremes reunion? All the men in the town coming together to protect Martin? A cat in a tree? Dani and her endless crashouts and the passive aggressive writing for Derek and Ashley? Leslie is a cartoon. Why did it take so long for Bill and Ted to interact if they were in on Martin's secret? Endless telling rather than showing. And the ridiculous ages of the main characters. Like c'mon. Is it fair that a show that isn't six months old has so much pressure on it? No. However, BTG lacks a history or a well of goodwill to fall back on, and now exists during a period when an administration is tilting the scales. I hope there is a retooling that takes place and more synergy between the characters, juggling stories and not just featuring certain ones and dropping others until a month later. I do want the show to be a success, but it's a copout, IMO, to act as if there weren't issues from the start, but those who pointed it out were shouted down. Hopefully, there is a pivot, and this is just a growing pain that they will come out of.

SC is a great actor who has been given awful material. He could be written as Bill's successor. But Bill doesn't even act like himself anymore. The show is stuck with making all of its leads Ridge-like.

B&B: Veteran Actor returns
Thanks for the history. I knew I was missing some stuff. Or maybe forgot on purpose. I just always remember that their beginning was so flirty, fun, and full of romance. And they had a random kid out there, but Taylor carried him. There was no need to make Nick another Ridge who couldn't decide who he wanted.
