@YRfan23 That's because inconsistent SORASing messed up the timelines so we didn't get viable generations of high school/college/early career in the 1990s/2000s/2010s/today.

I think it has more to do with the fact that soaps have lost their young audiences. Teens/College students used to watch soaps during breaks/summer. That's no longer the case. Soaps are far too vanilla to write edgy stories that would intrigue younger viewers anyway. Plus, the end goal for teens hasn't changed in 780 years of soaps:i getting married by 21 and babies, etc. Lily's the perfect example of this.

Might as well bring them back after college, medical or law school and start them as younger adults.

Rick had reins of the company and tanked it so nope.

It tanked because that was Bradley brilliant storytelling. Rick and Maya finally had a story after years in the background. In 3 months, that was all blown to bits via Brad's PSA story. He just couldn't see how well Ridge/C2/Rick/Maya worked as couples and business rivals. Tragic.

  3. Sadly, Brooke following her wide-open heart is a canon for B&B. Like Taylor, smart women are completely defined by their *hearts* and not their intelligence. Since Finn arrived, at least Steffy got her brain back.

Brooke should've evolved into a less-cold Stephanie who's running FC or working with $B. KKL is perfectly capable considering she has kept Brooke viable through unbelievable awful writing.

I saw it happen onscreen.  Thomas knew Caroline was under the influence and not herself, and that she could not legally consent.  But he intentionally took advantage of the situation and had sex with her anyhow.   Legally, if one partner is unable to consent and other partner is aware of that, then it's rape.
    https://web.archive.org/web/20220729140036/https://apps.rainn.org/policy/policy-crime-definitions.cfm?state=California&group=9

Brad Bell actually made a statement later on that it wasn't rape.  But it was.

I was going to mention that. This issue could have been solved without C2 being under the influence. She could've *owned* her desire and feeling for Thomas. That would've been a lot better for everyone. I've never understood soaps need to create victims. The fallout from these types of stories wouldn't have changed - in some cases it would've been better. Here, C2's lingering feelings for Thomas even though she was with Ridge, etc.

Thomas has had a long unsavory history now for some time. He put a car bomb in Rick’s car and then a couple years later shoved Rick out a window. He raped Caroline resulting in her pregnancy. He ran Emma off the road, bullied his son, teamed up with Quinn,  faked his death etc. More recently he briefly covered for Sheila which hasn’t come back up yet.

Thomas is a very unstable person I wouldn’t trust him alone with Douglas again.

And all those years Thomas spent in jail paying for his crimes. Oh, wait. Yet another example of the ridiculousness of Sheila and Deacon being the only ones who should *pay* for their crimes.

Thomas was turned into an awful character with no real reason why. There's never been a reason to root for him. He's a spoiled, rich man with no redeeming qualities. Brad really bungled this legacy character.

  6. I predict three things will happen:

    1. By early 2023, they'll start releasing a week's worth of episodes rather than daily.

    2. As we get closer to summer, they'll reduce to 3-4 episodes a week, which will extend the season a couple of months. By then, the show will have adjusted to producing episodes intended to air on Peacock, not over-the-air TV (for US).

    3. If #2 is successful, DAYS will be renewed at 3 episodes a week - probably with a more BS or Port Charles-like form of storytelling.

Getting viewers to invest in 5 episodes a week has always been a huge challenge. I think in the 80s/90s, the average was closer to 4, but those numbers have dropped over time. A very simple way to think about it: if the average viewer went from 4 episodes a week to 3, that's a 25% drop.

  7. I prefer to be optimistic. The fact that NBC is considering giving back the 10E/9C slot back to affiliates is further evidence the company has significant issues. Could this have been planned better? Of course, but NBC seems to be scrambling generally.

The good news about streaming is that folks who wait to get on-board weeks or months from now, will be able to catch up on the post-NBC episodes. Honestly, I've been bingeing 3-4 months at a time for the past 3 years. I find it so much more enjoyable because I can FF through a lot of stuff. Streaming actually got me back to watching DAYS. I was a lapsed viewer for longer than I'll ever admit. I'm sure I'm not alone.

LOL everyone is dumbed down for Sheila. They can't write her smart without dumbing everyone down. Although Hope never was the sharpest knife in the drawer to begin with...

So that's it for RENA??? What the actual f*ck????

Is that really a surprise? I mean how did Jackie and Nick get sent off? Didn't they kind of disappear or at least it seemed that way.

It looks like NBC is just throwing up its hands – the Wall Street Journal reports today that the network is considering stopping programming the 10pm to 11pm hour and turning the time back over to affiliates.

Wow. Not that surprised. They attempted this years ago with the Tonight Show 5 days a week - it was a huge flop. Right now, there's not much on at 10 p.m. L&O and last half season of NA.

  10. @Tonksadora @Vee Oh, I love the Hayes' - the are icons! I'm certain NBC/Peacock will turn on the promo right after Labor Day - the week before the move.

Obviously, today's announcement was a big step for Peacock overall. It's also the first real notification that a lot of viewers will get that The Chicagos and L&Os will no longer stream on Hulu. Peacock has a fairly new president so that's why a lot of these changes are happening. She was interviewed by Deadline this morning. (Peacock President Kelly Campbell On Reclaiming Next-Day Premieres From Hulu, Doubling Content Spend And Spurring “Next Evolution Of Growth) - no link since I don't want to violate any copyright rules.

Peacock is desperately trying to get a foothold in the market. Fans shouldn't assume DAYS is being singled out. There's a lot of unhappy Hulu subscribers. NBC/Universal still owns a share of Hulu, but they are suddenly moving that content to Peacock. It's all business.

So now will you play $1.99?

Or $19.99 for 12 months, which will cover DAYS *final* season (hopefully not).

Considering what other streaming services are charging, that's a great deal. 80% of homes subscribe to at least 1 streaming service. All these people complaining that they don't know how to use streaming - well, they sure know how to use the internet to post on boards. That's what makes the whole Doug & Julie showing how to stream a bit ridiculous. Millions of older Americans already use streaming regularly. And the ones that are 65+ have never mattered financially to the networks aka advertising so losing them is really losing nothing. However, gaining a few subscriptions from older folks is $$$.

Is this great? No. It's not much different than when the NCAA Football Championship is shown on ESPN.

Chelsea was a con artist hired by Victor to waylay Billy in a foreign country.  Chelsea raped Billy via a substance thing, and that's how Johnny was conceived.  There was no affection involved.
Pregnant Chelsea and her mother Anita came to Genoa City to con the couple Billy and Victoria, and to get them to pay her for the baby.  I could go on but it gets me really angry, so I'll stop there.

I thought it was Chelsea that claimed Billy raped her, which was part of the con. She later admitted on tape that it was a consensual encounter. Billy was a heavy drinker, I don't recall anything about Chelsea needing to drug him - he was pretty good at that himself!

The whole story was a bit disjointed because Chelsea disappeared for a few months only to show up on Billy's doorstep pregnant.

Monday, August 29, 2022: Rena Sofer's final airdate as Quinn.

From the Early Edition Spoilers for week of August 29, 2022:
"Carter and Quinn share a romantic and wine-fueled exchange."

Quinn has to die suddenly since LSV is staying. Drunk Quinn falls off a pier where $B found Li.

Sheila is not a "gray" character who sometimes does bad stuff.  She is a sociopath!
1980s Sheila was pure evil and I've never forgiven her.
I guess if a viewer had seen only recent years, her evil might *seem* diluted to the viewer. But that's Brad Bell's fault if she comes off as a "diluted baddie" or a "gray character" to current viewers.

She's a sociopath!  She does not have any empathy for anyone.  Period.

Ha. I'm well aware of SheDevil's sins. Actually, I'd say it's Brad's fault that she hasn't evolved. It's always extreme and it doesn't have to be.

For example, instead of putting Sheila and Steffy at odds over the Brooke's spiked drink, they should've been allies! Steffy wants nothing more than her parents reunited and Sheila's trick paved the way. After all, the *real* Steffy tried to blackmail Brooke and Oliver, so it's not a leap.

The fact the Sheila is even a viable character is strictly due to KB's portrayal.

  15. Well over 80% of homes used a streaming service. For the time being Xfinity customers can access Peacock. So with paid subscribers and Xfinity - it's roughly 30MM homes that have access.

Comcast already has a ton of streaming data for DAYS, the 2 BS weeks, 1 Xmas special. For example, they know whether there's been upticks when DAYS was pre-empted nationally and only available on streaming, which episodes are the most popular, which parts (characters), people FF, etc. This isn't some blind or random decision.

I'm assuming the big promo push will happen right after Labor Day (the week before the shift). Too much promo now would get lost in the clutter. The beauty of the streaming platform - if diehard DAYS fans don't get the message for a week or a month, etc., if they do get Peacock, they'll be able to catch up since all those episodes will be available.

Is this great for everybody? No. But it's not call show *business* for nothing. Programs get cancelled all the time. DAYS has a lifeline so I'd prefer to be optimistic. Frankly, if they moved to a model with 3 weekly episodes that eliminated redundancy and made for tighter stories, I'd be happy with that.
