Soap Storylines/Moments You Would Have Written Differently
Redundant post deleted. But agree with the previous posts regarding GL.

Why are soap fans so averse to online streaming?
You can have soaps on streaming platforms but umless they commit to a 4-5 episode a week format then it's not a daytime soap just another online drama. Frankly I don't think younger audiences could handle the quantity of daytime as they focus on quality and have shorter attention spans. I feel the future should be to spin-off new weekly shows off of General Hospital and other ABC Intellectual property that could attract new audiences with 10-20 episode seasons.

What would your major B&B twist be?
Do we know when this "twist" is supposed to drop? Seems like we've been speculating forever.

Agree to disagree, no hard feelings man!

Soap Storylines/Moments You Would Have Written Differently
I would've had a Mike Bauer recast come on in '99 to take down the Santos clan. Mike would get shot, possibly killed bringing Hope back to town with Alan-Michael who just split up with Lucy off-screen. 2001 I would've given Rick a teen son from his Chicago days forming a new Musketeers group with Lizzie, Bill and either a SORAS'd Marina or another character.

DAYS: Fire Jamey Giddens!!
The story isn't great but l will take history in any form. Jamey had lots of great ideas in his podcast referencing history and all that. To me the main draw of soaps in the continuity. I think Saranee is crap but I really do appreciate name dropping. It's referencing show history, that's how I see it. He had great ideas on his podcast and it's great to see someone who loves the genre be able to contribute to the medium. I'm not defending the Renee story, I'm defending Jamey and using a shows deep history. I appreciate deep cuts, even if I wasn't watching back then.

ALL: Favorite Soap Special Episodes, Standalones, and Stunts
The Guiding Light 70th anniversary episode, recreating the shows early years. BE as Irna Phillips and KZ as Bert Bauer 😆 😆

DAYS: Fire Jamey Giddens!!
True, too cheap. If you can't do a story right don't even try. I think a plethora of flashbacks would've made the story work as it has potential.

DAYS: Fire Jamey Giddens!!
So by your logic Roger and Holly should've never returned to GL in '89 because they were ancient history and the show was 95 percent different cast characters.

DAYS: Fire Jamey Giddens!!
I agree but that's what flashbacks are for.

DAYS: Fire Jamey Giddens!!
I enjoy name dropping. I appreciate any reference to a shows history despite execution, I will give them the credit. How I would've loved GL in the 90s or 00s name drop Katie Parker, IQ, Steve Jackson, Kelly Nelson or Dr. Paul Fletcher.

I would make random deep callbacks to a shows history. Like on GL. DA Doris Wolfe could've been a child of Dr. Fletcher or something. That's one thing I'm enjoying about Days even if the execution isn't always great. I appreciate the effort.

Days of Our Lives: March 2022 Discussion Thread
Frankly, I'm glad someone like Jamey who knows and loves the history of Days is on staff. As a GL fan I wished we had deep callbacks to that shows history like that. Now the execution of using said history us a different matter but I appreciate the attempt. Also, I'm so on board for EJ/Belle. (BE-J?, BELL-J?)

Does Sarah/Renee know forty years passed? Maybe she thinks it's only been a few months? I only ask because I miss a lot of the show.

I saw today's episode, of course Satan's shape-shifting turned Gabi against Jake. Oh well, I'm just glad to have some corporate storyline. Also, Alex Marshall is a deep cut. Is the character still alive (not that that matters 😏)? They should bring that character back.

I missed where Gabi turned on Jake. When and why?

ABC vs CBS Daytime vs NBC Daytime
Likely because there base were former independent stations and the former-CBS stations appreciated the freedom to do their own thing. Also, OJ happened in '94 and network daytime took a big ratings hit, this could've doomed any daytime plans Fox may have been developing.

Soap Storylines/Moments You Would Have Written Differently
On GL I would've made Sebastian Roger's half brother instead of son. Sending those coins to everyone and moving around Michele's furniture like he was Susan Piper. Carrie Nye's second character, Carruthers killed her niece. That was weak. I would've had Alan be revealed to be the kier and send him away. Maybe bring him back as a better recast later. GL, Zachary the Angel is granted mortal status. As being tied to the Bauers long ago he is reincarnated as a long lost son of Mike Bauer. Cassie would've been revealed to be Sarah's kid with Henry Chamberlain. Jeffrey would be Ed's son, FINALLY giving us more Bauers with him, ava and colin.

Bottom Preforming Soaps In Each Decade
GL still had standout performers during the final years. GT's Dinah, MR's Lizzie and DC's Bill were all home runs. GL finally got the character of Shayne right but the show was practically over by then. Zach Spaulding had potential during the final months as well. 90s: Another World. Nothing they tried worked. AW was essentially a dead show walking since it moved out of the 3pm hour. Nothing they threw at the wall stuck, legend has it NBC considered axing the show in '87. Their prime time lineup was on fire and naturally NBC wanted to take advantage of that.

I don't get why everyone is mad at Kristen for shooting Victor. She's done way worse. Victor had it coming for years it could've been a community service. 😆

Actors who could/should have played other characters on their show.
GL "Christine valere" should've been hope Bauer and "Johnny Bauer" should've been "Sean Reardon" Nicole Forrester should've been Trish or Hope instead of Cassie. "Ava" could've been Anastasia Chamberlain, Vanessa's step-niece.

Or better yet just, just ignore that stupid retcon that they weren't identical twins.

Characters: The Aborted & The Wasted
GL Sean. He was on the island with Reva. Quickly upgraded to contract and given history with Ben Warren. His ex-wife faked her death and he was on the lam for it and Ben was involved with it. Sean quickly disappeared after that. Sugar Hill. The record producer working with Jesse and Dru. He was gonna be a spoiler in the relationship but Taye Diggs hit it big and was gone. Sean Reardon. Bridget and Matt's dad appeared for about a week. His character was kinda similar to Buzz's Cain. Originally Cain and Reva was going to be a Beauty and the Beast type romance but they decided to make Cain a villain. Harley's Prison Cellmate played by Linda Dano. Seemed like there was a possibility of her sticking around for awhile like Abby's celibate Selina years prior. Dano's character mentioned having a daughter. J Chamberlain. First of all he should've kept him as AJ Cjambetlain and developed his character more. Yet another wasted legacy character like Ben Reade. ATWT Bryan Montgomery. So much wasted potential. He could've been blinded or in a coma to get a similar effect. Evan Walsh IV and Dani. More wasted legacy characters. Camille. She should've been John Dixons daughter. They were hinting at it so hard with no payoff. Judi Evans character that had a fling with Holden. She really gave a filler character some serious presence. I would've preferred her sticking around over recasting Lilly.

What's the best way to end a SOAP Episode?
Also, B&B introduced a vocal version performed by Dionne Warrick over scenic beauty shots. https://youtu.be/4k3HEWljWuk
