I'm a person without a car, and I live miles from the nearest bus stop. I rely on Amazon and Doordash to survive. This sucks. I've already been upset with Bezos and the Washington Post refusal to endorse Kamala Harris, which has caused me much angst about using Amazon. But now Doordash? WTF.

I am too US-centric. I saw a headline about Georgia and the election... I read too fast, skimmed, saw mentions of Georgia, a recount, a political party, accusations of electoral irregularities, a stolen election, protests about fraud, intimidation, ballot stuffing, multiple voting, unprecedented levels of voter bribery and expulsion of observers from polling stations. Prosecutors said they had opened 47 criminal cases over alleged electoral violations. Upon slowing myself down, I realized... The article is about an election in the *country* of Georgia. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/oct/31/georgia-election-final-recount-ruling-party-victory-electoral-commission Re: the official results reported by the ruling party's electoral commission: a global research and data firm called those reported results “statistically impossible”. The EU and the US have demanded a full investigation.

Emma Samms MBE @EmmaSamms1 I don’t talk politics much on here, and I would never tell anyone how to vote, but if you’re interested at all in my thoughts on the election, read on - I’ve met Donald Trump. I found him to be NOT a good person. Not one bit. And I think America and the world deserve better.

The point was that some of them were *eligible* voters who born and raised in Virginia, or legally naturalized citizens, and never should have been removed to begin with. They were already removed during the past few months. It was an automated process that had a lot of errors. There was a lawsuit, and the federal district court judge said they should be restored. The issue now is that six days before the election, the U.S. Supreme Court overruled the other judge and now says that Virginia doesn't have to restore these voters to the voting rolls. Yes I agree that it's fascist tactics!

I posted this upthread, too late to edit to add on, so reposting with more ... Sonia Blangiardo is listed as a producer on the table-read script that Colby Muhammad posted on instagram this morning. Sonia Blangiardo Goins is currently a director at DAYS. She's the one that at least 25 of the DAYS cast&crew requested in a petition to be promoted to co-EP to replace the repugnant firedguy(Alarr.) . But DAYS promoted Janet Spellman Drucker to co-EP instead. from @JAS0N47 https://www.jason47.com/days/staffbios.html Sonia Blangiardo has previously directed at "As the World Turns" (2005-2010), "General Hospital" (2012-2013), "All My Children" (2013) and the web series "Winterthorne" (2015), and also was a producer on "All My Children", "As the World Turns", "One Life to Live" and the web series "Tainted Dreams." She has been nominated for 4 Daytime Emmys, winning two (2002 for "One Life to Live" and 2007 for "As the World Turns.") Blangiardo was born April 18, 1968 in Brooklyn, New York. She married actor Brandon Goins on April 6, 2018, and her first credit as Sonia Blangiardo Goins aired on May 1, 2018. Tenure: October 14, 2015-Present --- Quoting The Wrap from August 2023: https://www.thewrap.com/days-of-our-lives-co-ep-albert-alarr-fired-misconduct-investigation-peacock-nbcu/ An insider close to production told TheWrap that NBCU brass requested the extended hiatus to give the show time to find a path forward. Earlier this week, at least 25 members of the show’s cast and crew signed a petition obtained by TheWrap that detailed the “traumatic and disheartening” work environment made public in the reports, and asking for Alarr to be replaced as co-executive producer with longtime director Sonia Blangiardo. “As you make this critical decision with ‘Days of Our Lives’ moving forward, we humbly ask that you consider our collective voice in choosing the best leader for the future of our show,” read the letter. End quote from The Wrap. ---- ------------- I just wanted to add on that Ron Carlivati being listed as a breakdown writer ... Hopefully his misogynist tendencies will be counteracted by Sonia Blangiardo being hired on the producers team ... At least 25 of the cast and crew thought Sonia would be the best choice to turn the Days ship around after firedguy.A.

When Hillary Clinton said "basket of deplorables" (at an LGBT campaign fundraising event in New York City on September 9, 2016), she was indeed talking about people and not attitudes, but still, she specifically said that applied to only HALF of Trump's supporters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basket_of_deplorables Note the last paragraph is bigger and she talks about the well-meaning people who support Trump, the ones we have to understand and empathize with: Quoting Hillary from 2016: I know there are only 60 days left to make our case – and don't get complacent; don't see the latest outrageous, offensive, inappropriate comment and think, "Well, he's done this time". We are living in a volatile political environment. You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. (Laughter/applause) Right? (Laughter/applause) They're racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people – now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric. Now, some of those folks – they are irredeemable, but thankfully, they are not America. But the "other" basket – the other basket – and I know because I look at this crowd I see friends from all over America here: I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas and – as well as, you know, New York and California – but that "other" basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures; and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but – he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well. End quote.

This explains what Joe Biden said and didn't say regarding the racist comments by the presenters at the Tr*mp rally -- A confusion due to an apostrophe: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/29/joe-biden-puerto-rico In the typed text of Biden's speech: he said supporter's not supporters. But when spoken aloud, it sounds the same. Biden said regarding the Trump rally in New York: The only garbage I see is his supporter's (his supporter's garbage) Biden didn't say: The only garbage I see is his supporters (the people who support him) -------- And then Biden issued this statement afterwards: https://x.com/JoeBiden/status/1851436643498037614 "Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation." --------

as it says above: Voting experts have long warned that comparing voting rolls to DMV data is not a reliable way to find non-citizens on the rolls because there may be paperwork errors and people can become naturalized after getting their driver’s license. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit said they had identified several people who were in fact citizens but had their registrations wrongly canceled. Over 1600 voters were removed from Virginia's voting rolls, including some citizens who were born in Virginia. Federal courts had ruled that the voters needed to be restored, so the State(Commonwealth) of Virginia took it to the U.S. Supreme Court, asking that the restoration be stopped. ----------- Update Wednesday October 30: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/30/supreme-court-virginia-voter-registration The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Virginia does not have to restore the registrations of 1,600 voters, some of whom appear to have been wrongly removed. The Virginia attorney general, Jason Miyares, a Republican, praised the U.S. Supreme Court’s action, saying it would “keep noncitizens off our voter rolls”. Virginia, which is predicted to vote for Kamala Harris this fall, provides same-day voter registration, allowing anyone who was wrongfully removed to re-register at the polls. - My response to the above: With six days to go, how will they reach all those voters who were wrongly removed, to tell them to go vote anyhow with whatever documentation might be needed? Hopefully the lawsuit has a list of everyone and how to reach them.

Lifelong Virginian among 1,600 voters to have registration cancelled https://www.nbcwashington.com/decision-2024/lifelong-virginian-among-1600-voters-to-have-registration-cancelled/3753313/ Shantae Martin clearly remembers the first time she voted, at the insistence of her grandmother. She cast her first ballot for Barack Obama. A big surprise recently arrived in the mail; a letter from election officials told Martin, 37, her voter registration had been cancelled because she’s a noncitizen. Martin, a lifelong Virginian, was baffled. “I was confused, to be honest. I was born and raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, so, you’ve got everything about me and now you’re saying that I’m an alien. Why would you let me vote before and not now?” she asked in an interview with News4. Martin is one of 1,600 Virginians whose voter registration was cancelled after Gov. Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order on Aug. 7 ordering election officials to speed up the process of purging noncitizens form voter rolls. In many cases, the voters were removed because they checked a box or missed checking a box on a DMV form designating them as a noncitizen. The Department of Justice and groups representing immigrant communities filed suit and said the purge violated a federal law that bars voter registration cancellations so close to an election. “So many stories have come out. These are U.S. citizens. They are being prohibited their right to vote,” said Monica Sarmiento, executive director of the Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights. That’s Martin’s story and why it’s included in the lawsuit. She got a new driver’s license in the spring and suspects some type of mistake was made. Both a federal judge and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the purge violated federal law and ordered all 1,600 voters be reinstated. HOWEVER -- despite that court ruling ordering the reinstatement ... The State (Commonwealth) of Virginia asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block the reinstatement of voters, writing, “States are free to systematically remove noncitizens, as well as minors and fictitious persons, at any time, including within 90 days of an election, without running afoul of the [National Voter Registration Act].”

re: previous post, on the fire at the drop-off ballot box in Clark County, Washington State: fyi, Clark County, Washington is part of a U.S. congressional district of Wash. State -- a district that votes liberal in some towns and very conservative in other towns. (The district borders Portland Oregon on the south but is also comprised of some very conservative rural areas) Complicated district. Ms. Jaime Herrera Beutler was the Congresswoman from that district previously (2011 through January 2023). She's a Republican who voted against impeaching Tr*mp in 2019, but then was one of the few Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching him in 2021. In general, she supported Republican stances and Tr*mp's agenda most of the time; but January 6th was too much for her and she supported the establishment of the Jan 6th Commission. Herrera Beutler lost in the 2022 Republican primary to an election-denier (Joe Kent). A Democrat won the Nov. 2022 general election for that district, defeating Joe Kent. The district was won in 2022 by Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who is a "Blue Dog Democrat". She began serving in January 2023. She is running for reelection in 2024, against the same Republican election denier (Joe Kent) that she defeated in 2022.

Drop-off ballot boxes in Vancouver Washington and Portland Oregon set afire. Early this morning Monday October 28. (fyi, Vancouver Wash and Portland OR are adjoining cities on the state line) Note: There is zero in-person voting in Washington state and Oregon. Both Washington state and Oregon are mail-only states, but you can either mail your ballot or drop it off in an official ballot box. https://www.katu.com/news/local/vancouver-ballot-box-seen-smoking-same-morning-as-portland-ballot-box-arson The Clark County Washingon elections auditor told KATU that the last ballot pickup at the box that was set afire -- was 11 a.m. PDT Saturday October 26. Hundreds of ballots were inside at the time of the burning, and KATU was told there were maybe only a few that could be saved. Anyone who dropped off a ballot since then is urged to immediately contact Clark County Elections for a new ballot. https://clark.wa.gov/elections Just a few hours earlier, Portland OR police had responded to an arson at a SE Portland ballot box. Elections officials in Multnomah County OR said only three ballots were destroyed at the ballot box at Southeast 10th and Morrison streets in Portland, thanks to a fire suppressant inside the box. https://www.oregonlive.com/news/2024/10/a-second-ballot-box-fire-this-time-in-clark-county-destroys-hundreds-of-ballots.html
