  1. Posted this a couple of pages ago, back here: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/66310-beyond-the-gates-premiere-date-time-slot-set-by-cbs/?do=findComment&comment=1991515 And we were discussing that the NYT article author is a Black reporter formerly focused on sports but now more on culture. But did he make an error, or did he misunderstand, or was he given the wrong information? ---- Adding onto that prior discussion ... After I watched or read a recent BTS video or interview from the past few days, I wonder if maybe he heard Sheila talking about working on the project with Michele, and somehow gathered that they were co-creators, which they aren't. But it's possible, if he didn't know the details, he might have misunderstood. Should he, or could he, have known to dig deeper? Looking back at the NYT article, it says: (in reference to the soaps at their peak in the 1970s and 1980s) ... They lured, clutched and dangled the collective attentions of housewives, nighttime shift workers, children home sick from school and workers playing hooky. . . . . . That viewership included a dedicated demographic that Ducksworth and the co-creator of “Beyond the Gates,” Michele Val Jean, will aim to attract. <snip> The series will depict all ages and races. And with two Black women in creative control, a collective mix of ownership, pride and excitement is palpable among the cast and crew. <snip> Vivica A. Fox <snip> It was Fox who introduced Ducksworth and Val Jean more than 20 years ago. Ducksworth told her of her dreams of making a soap. Val Jean by that point was one of soap’s most prolific writers, most notably for “General Hospital” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” As Ducksworth contemplated accepting the CBS job, she reached out to Val Jean and asked her to start imagining a world revolving around a sprawling Black family of influence. “I wanted to see a big Black family that’s rooted in their love for each other, and they’re accomplished and they’re smart and they’re rich and they’re not downtrodden,” Val Jean said. Even as she built out the characters, it was hard to envision the show becoming a reality, despite Ducksworth’s reassurances. Her enthusiasm swelled once production started. ------- It seems like the article author thinks BTG was Duckworth's idea, and that Val Jean was asked on as the writer. He (the author) does credit Val Jean with building the characters. Maybe he's defining "creator" of a soap differently than we would?
  2. Remember the 2018 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida, which inspired the surviving students to become gun-control activists and organizers of the "March For Our Lives" protests. David Hogg was one of the teen organizers. He became politically active. Feb. 1, 2025, David Hogg was elected as one of the vice-chairs of the national Democratic Party. https://democrats.org/leadership-dnc/

  4. https://www.billhayesmovie.com/movie The movie is amazing. I think his grandson made the film. Anyone can watch it for free by submitting a name and email address at that link, but they seriously ask that no part of it be copied or displayed anywhere else. It's their way of sharing it but keeping it intact and copyright to the family. So they ask that the link can be shared but not the images or video. 5. Jennifer Hudson asks about celebrities visiting or being cast. Donnell replies that sometimes people want to appear, but they may or may not want to do all the actual work of a soap role. Donnell mentions he has met Snoop Dogg and that he wants to arrange with Frank for Snoop to do a cameo, but that hasn't been arranged yet. But most of this clip is about Leslie Charleson

  7. SCADfest is in Atlanta today. Hopefully Jamey attended only because he lives in the Atlanta area and wanted to support friends and former coworkers. I'd prefer that he not be on the staff of BTG. https://x.com/Jamey_Giddens/status/1887278384289325559
  8. Update Feb. 5, 2025 https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-administration-evicts-former-coast-guard-linda-fagan-3-hours-rcna190820 President Donald Trump's administration evicted former Coast Guard Commandant Linda Fagan from her home with three hours of notice on Tuesday — not even enough time to gather her personal effects — according to two people familiar with the incident. Fagan, a four-star admiral and the first woman to lead a branch of the military, was removed from her post as the Coast Guard’s top officer on Trump’s second day in office. Officials at the Homeland Security Department — which oversees the Coast Guard — cited border security issues and an “excessive focus” on diversity, equity and inclusion among the reasons for her dismissal. Fagan, who was named commandant in 2022, made a convenient target for a new president who wanted to flex his muscle. The process for firing her was less complex than for dismissing chiefs of the four main branches of the military. More than that, the move allowed him to send signals about his anti-DEI agenda and desire to stem the flow of illegal immigrants and goods into the United States. Throwing her out of her house on short notice went a step further. "It's petty and it's personal," one Fagan ally said. But a DHS official countered that it made sense for her to be moved out of the home at Joint Base Anacostia Bolling. "She was terminated with cause two weeks ago today and she was still living in those admiral quarters," the official said, confirming that Fagan had been told to leave. The official said they could not confirm or deny the three-hour timeline. NBC News reached out to the White House and the Coast Guard for comment. Coast Guard leaders had given Fagan a 60-day waiver to find new housing, according to one of the sources. But on Tuesday, Homeland Security officials told the acting commandant, Kevin Lunday, that he had to kick her out because "the president wants her out of quarters," according to one of the people familiar with the incident. The DHS official was not able to immediately ascertain whether the directive had in fact come from Trump or whether his name had been invoked without his knowledge.
  9. When Robert Newman completed his run on Y&R, he said he lives on the east coast, and doesn't want to do anything longer than 6 months away from home. He says he'll do theatre gigs away from home that last 6-12 weeks. In the interview, he sounded relieved to have left L.A. (he said that in August 2022, so don't know if he feels the same way now) https://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/robert-newman-weighs-in-on-ending-his-yr-run/
  10. 11. Oops. I typed "Feb. 5 from TVLine" but obviously not. It's TVInsider, not TVLine. Sorry about that.
  12. same here, but I had to also enable cookies and tracking, too. Basically disable all adblockers and privacy features on my PC, and then I could see it. I found that cumbersome. That's why I posted the connatix link for anyone who wants to avoid that hassle.
  13. So the question is, did he make the error, or did CBS give him misleading/incorrect info?
  14. Okay so it looks like, in August 2023, the NYTimes author was moved from a focus of writing on sports into a newly-created "Culture" position at NYTimes. Per his IG post here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv-9doQP-r6/

  17. Re: TV Line's January 31st article detailing all the characters and their archetypes and actors https://tvline.com/lists/beyond-the-gates-cbs-soap-opera-cast-premiere-date-tamara-tunie/beyond-the-gates-tamara-tunie-anita/ Remember the 90-second promo video embedded in that article that I (and others) could not see. I noticed that Michele Val Jean tweeted that she couldn't see the video embedded in that article either (she knew it was there, but it wasn't visible on her device), and she tweeted thanks to the person who tweeted it. Thanks to detroitpiston for linking to the tweeted video and to Joseph for sharing an unlisted youtube. Anyhow, for anyone who might need it, here is the raw mp4 file of the video embedded in that Jan. 31 TVLine article: https://vid.connatix.com/pid-0763198a-5674-4e21-af3d-1f1bb2122b83/8009b150-7983-44ee-aa45-cf739d44e4f6/mmid-8cda1a69-05c1-5ad1-2ade-c59f9aecc270/1.mp4
  18. Yes there's reporting on the exit, and yes the recast was Joey. There's a thread with details in the spoiler section here: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/68149-gh-actor-leaves-former-yr-actor-in/
  19. Yes BTG should have Clarence. I'm sure the actor Brad Sanders would be up for helping BTG in whatever way. I remember that Brad Sanders was not approached by CBS for Y&R's 50th, so he approached CBS execs himself... so then Y&R wrote him into a brief part of one episode. He appeared as Clarence *within the episode*. “One of the radio stations said, ‘Look, man, you need to be a part of the 50th anniversary. You should be there!’ And I said, ‘Yeah, let me call!’ So I called [Vice President, Daytime Programs, CBS] Margot Wain and she called [Director at CBS] Danielle Unger and they were like, ‘Yeah, it sounds great!’ And they set it all up.” https://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/exclusive-brad-sanders-on-bringing-clarence-back-to-the-young-and-the-restless/ The scene was: Clarence was giving a scoop on his show about Tucker McCall, which Audra was watching online. This aired Dec. 27, 2023.
