As for the name change, Michael said he changed the family name as a way of distancing themselves from his abusive father. I think it was also mentioned that there was a clerical error in the paperwork from when he went to Vietnam. Hudson was originally his middle name. But they never explained why Eugene didn't change his name 😂😂

What AW needed in the 80s was a continuity person. Someone who knew the show and the characters like the back of their hand and who could inform every new writer and EP, that way there would have been a more cohesive flow throughout the years. Hell, it seems like Margaret DePriest didn't even know what her predecessor was doing lol remember Michael's brother, Eugene? Who didn't change his last name to Hudson.
