But Smitty's not forgiving Martin for doing what Vernon and Anita told him to do.I mean that's inconsistent but actually human -- humans have flawed reasoning. That flawed inconsistency is realistic. So, objectively, that's good writing.
But I'm annoyed at Smitty nevertheless.
I think both sides are justified in their feelings, but I'm leaning toward Team Smitty. While I understand Martin was going through hell mentally and emotionally trying to contain this secret, and believed he was acting in the best interest of his family.
However...what I can't excuse is his cruel and frankly abusive behavior toward Smitty. Not once has Martin apologized or even acknowledged the ways he dishonored his husband. Blocking Smitty from returning to work, all those smug patronizing remarks and comments. That had nothing to do with keeping his family safe and everything to do with his incessant need for power and control. That alone is enough to justify a separation let alone the big secret.

Come on now, even Tucker Carlson couldn't state that B&B is given more grace than BTG on this board with a straight face.
Exactly! The legacy soaps get dragged mercilessly, day after day year after year. Just search the names Frank Valentini, Ron Carlivati, Jill Farren Phelps, or Brad Bell. The BTG fans have created this toxic positivity echo chamber where even the slightest criticism is brushed off as hating or trolling.

Yep! With all of these people involved with this show: writers, directors, producers, etc. Why is it looking like this show doesn't really have its act together?
Too many cooks in the kitchen perhaps? Those scripts have to past through so many layers of bureaucracy before they finally make it to air. The showrunners, CBS, Proctor & Gamble, NAACP, etc. Granted none of us know what the story bible looks like, I shudder to think this is MVJ's original untempered vision playing out 😬

Does anyone else find the number of parties/events kinda off putting? Especially since in the grand scheme of things they're ultimately inconsequential and aren't really moving the story along.
In the course of a month we've had a wedding, medical association gala, charity gala, fashion show, birthday party, anniversary party, & Anita's return to the stage.
Now it's certainly better than the aimless milling about on Y&R or B&B, but none of these "big" events felt all that big or special.

This is why it would've made more sense for Martin to be Anita and Vernon's youngest child - besides the obvious age issues with him and Nicole, it would certainly explain why he'd be so desperate for approval by Vernon to the point where it's self-destructive. Being the only male child of Vernon and Anita, being the one who's supposed to continue the family name and trying hard to fit into that mold would explain a lot.
I just don't think the same type of pressure applies with Nicole and Ted who so far have come across as very level-headed and modern-day progressive.
The story literally writes itself! You'd have Nicole as the perfect golden child. Martin as the youngest and only boy. Feeling the weight of continuing the family name. Trying to make a name for himself and get out of his father's shadow. Torn between his own desires and what's expected of him.
Then you have Dani as the neglected middle child who had to fight her whole life to be seen and heard. Which explains her personality disorder and pursuing fame via her modeling career. Perhaps in this alternate version Dani/Vernon have a colder relationship, and Bill was the first man in her life who truly made her feel seen. Which would explain why losing him pushed her so far over the edge.

And, it's also alarming just how emotionally damaged each writing regime has made Sharon... whew. That Sharon is a complete 180 to the Sharon of today, and that sucks.
Such a shame...for years Sharon was my favorite character and now I roll my eyes whenever she's on screen. I adore Sharon Case and I'm glad she's still employed, but I think the character should've been rested years.
The previous regimes not only eroded her character to the point she's damn near unrecognizable. But they burned through so much story over the past decade and a half it's not clear what direction you can take her in.
Sharon Case should have a cabinet of Daytime Emmy's for all the heavy lifting she's done. She truly was the MVP of 2000's Y&R.

What is this writing? Brooke would never allow someone to disrespect her child like this, and certainly not in her presence.
I keep waiting for the slap/single tear/ "how dare you" combo but she's just standing ther dumbstruck. I wasn't even a Hope fan before this story but this hateful writing has converted me.

Valerie Pettiford is doing an amazing job! She's infused so much heart and character into what really amounts to a bit part. So much so I find this C-story more compelling than the A & B.
I'm truly sad they saddled her character with a terminal illness. I wish Amy was sticking around permanently, or they had crafted a new role for her. Seeing her interacting with Nate gave me shades of Olivia and Drucilla 😭
*To bad this isn't Days, and Rolf can't swoop in with a miracle cure*

Spelling errorI can't stop thinking about the opening credits and theme tune. Will it showcase the actors (and if so their names aswell)? Or will it be simple and timeless ala Days?
Will the theme be orchestral, synthy, jazzy, or maybe even vocal. On a similar note I can't wait to hear the music cues. This is such an exciting time.

With all the changes and talk of budget cuts surely the time will come when there will be a cast cull.
Seriously, who do you think could/should go at this point. personally I'd be happy to see the back of Victor and Phyllis but I know that ain't happening.
Mal Young had the right idea sidelining Victor. In a perfect he'd be bumped to recurring. Phyllis and her "stupid smirk" serve no purpose since they fired Gina.
Sharon is probably the vet with the least story potential, plus Josh already isn't invested in her. The writers really "blew they're load" with the Sharon character. She was so overused in the late 2000's & 2010's that there's quite literally nowhere left to go with her. Sharon had about 20 yrs worth of story crammed into less than a decade.

Josh Griffith think's he's Tyler Perry, writing everything solo.
Does Josh think he's TP, or does the network think he's TP? This likely was a cost cutting move by the suits and Josh obliged. I'm not sure I buy the idea that he's drunk with power and forced the others out.
Regardless it's still a disaster waiting to happen. No one person can fulfill all those duties.

Double textY&R is especially bad at keeping up those ancillary connections. Both in the case of former friends/lover but also extended family & step children.
For example if you weren't watching back then you'd have no idea Paul & Lauren were once married. I can't remember a solo scene between them post early 2000's.
Also thought it was a missed opportunity ignoring the connection between Kyle & Victor. They shared some really sweet paternal scenes during the Blake Hood/Maura West era. I can't recall MM's Kyle ever crossing paths with Victor.
Ditto for Jack and his former stepchildren. I get why he and Nick wouldn't be super close given the love triangles. But Victoria and him seemingly never interact. Likewise Noah and Jack grew close during his marriage to Sharon, which the writers have collectively decided to pretend never happened.
Other examples...Chance/Chloe, Sharon/Devon & Lily

I wish they would let Cricket and Danny reunite. I never was hyped about her and Paul!
I always found the Paul/Cricket pairing dry and devoid of passion. His true love is Nikki and her's is Danny. In her heart Cricket knows he'll never love her as deeply and vice versa.

What if Kat's issues with men stem from having her heart broken by her father? After having that trust shattered I'd imagine it be very hard to then entrust said heart (or body) with another man. What if seeing Dani & Nicole lose it all back to back soured her on men and sexuality? That's a natural reaction that pulls upon established history. Why not delve deeper into the pressure that millennial & Gen Z men and women feel to lose their virginity "before it's too late".
Why is Chelsea her only "talk to"? Speaking of that why doesn't Kat have any friends? Wouldn't relationship talk be a more natural use of Naomi? Why not Aunt Dani, or Grandma Anita? She's obviously comfortable enough with Dani to live on her property and defile her furniture lol. Heck her mother who she rarely crosses paths with. Hell even Cousin Andre could give her man advice!
They're burning through story at breakneck speed and willingly ignoring obvious story beats. There's gotta be a balance between this current rapidfire and the weeklong days and repetitious conversations ala B&B.
