I'd be happy to! I just read the intro and first chapter and I'm already hooked. I know she had a co-author, but I can tell Kim is a firecracker and I'd love to have wine with her and talk sh!t haha. It makes reading the book pretty easy and entertaining. Intro - I had no idea she got a DUI! She shared 3 bottles of wine with a friend at dinner one night in LA, got in her car, was pulled over and thrown in jail overnight. She admitted it wasn't her first time drinking and driving, but learned a valuable lesson that night. Out of the gate, she's not holding back or hiding anything. Chapter 1 - the announcement that GL was being cancelled. She was driving to Peapack and got a call from Bradley Cole who told her the news. First, that's BS that as one of the faces of GL, you hear the big news from a fellow co-star on your way to work. Granted, the "suits" were traveling to Peapack that day to tell the cast and crew, but still, seems icky. Ironically the news came on April Fools Day. Apparently that was the last day the network could decide whether to cancel or renew, but to Kim's point, couldn't they just pick the day before to avoid the callousness of the 'holiday'. Obviously a sad day in GL history. I thought it was funny, she said the one thing she thought of is "what would Susan Lucci do" in this situation, post-cancellation. And of course she said she'd "find something to hawk on the Home Shopping Network" 😂 You all would know better than me, but part of the title of her book is "seven husbands" and in her intro, she uses Reva's full name: Reva Shayne-Lewis-Lewis-Spaulding-Lewis-Winslow-Cooper-Lewis-Lewis-O'Neill. However, in the first chapter, she said Bradley Cole was "her 8th (or was it 9th?) husband". Well, Kim, that already contradicts the title of your book and your character's name you touted. 😂

My Kim Zimmer book just came in the mail today 😂 Very cheesy cover, but she got some good names to give quotes on how great the book is: Susan Flannery, Alec Baldwin (random), Pamela Long, Paul Rauch, Robert Newman, TV Guide, Soaps In Depth, and others. I'll have to let y'all know what I think when I get around to reading it haha.

Very true - AMC was a good ensemble show in the 90s (until Kendall/Zach/Greenlee/Ryan took over in the mid-2000/2010s). Glad you liked the 1994 tornado and 2006 Mardi Gras ball too I'll have to go watch those Mardi Gras ball scenes this weekend. I think I actually have them on VHS somewhere in some boxes haha, but I don't have a VHS player anymore.

Uh oh, is Bill giving Dani some hope here? He appreciated her concern, so it's not all hate there. Hayley doesn't seem so pleased.

I like him too. I'm still trying to figure out why he's not a contract player and in the intro. He has his own storyline and is on more than other contract players month to month.

LOL at Shanice. So she realizes Leslie is the one who drugged Laura, why isn't she telling anyone? I liked how Leslie dropped the act and tried to get real with. Ohh, Vernon didn't know about Barbara? Anita really kept this close.

Haha, love to hear it, and thank you! Yeah, I just write down thoughts/notes as I'm watching in this viewing journal I'm keeping. So, you get my raw, honest thoughts in the moment without me having to go back and remember or curate anything. Watros is great, and I've liked her from the beginning, so I'm excited to see her evolve and shine even more as Annie continues to descend. I'll keep an eye out for that scene. I have to say, Rick cracks me up, there are times when he makes jokes and you can tell the actor is having fun with it and cracking himself up. He's endearing. Let me suffer! So funny how big Josh's hair is in the 80s. Sign of the times, I guess. I can't wait to finally see the Sonni storyline and watch a younger Michelle Forbes shine. It's on my list, I will go back in time eventually and do this

Ohhh yes, these were exciting! What year was this? Another added bonus, watching Tangie lurk around like a thief with that black beanie.😂 I'm happy to hear I'm not alone in my thoughts over Gilly's exit and Vivian's first and likely only contract storyline. It was just a shame. On one hand, I'm glad they decided to finally write for this family (as Gilly was sorely underused in 1995), but then on the other... that was what they decided? Sure, it was a bit soapy, but oh so gross. They could have come up with something better.

Thank you for the great background and summary - very helpful! Yes, very odd they never brought her back, but at least J mentioned her, so not truly forgotten. Ah interesting, I guess I never realized that CBS was a bit more conservative/old-fashioned in a way, at least pre-2000 or so. It's funny, I wrote that about slapping, and then a few episodes later, Vivian storms into the Spaulding mansion and slaps Alan. It's like I spoke it into existence. 😂

Ahh ok, that makes sense. Gosh, I didn't remember Frances passing in 1994. I thought she was with us longer than that. She was such a sweet lady and character. Yes, so good and I'm so happy there is a quality version online. I looked it up and AMC won the Best Directing Emmy for 1994, so I have to assume they submitted these episodes. I'm not sure how to find out to confirm, but would only make sense. I still get chills watching it because I remember it so vividly as a 10 year old. Of course the drama of it all to see what happens to your favorite characters pre-spoiler days, but I grew up in the Midwest so tornadoes were a real, scary thing that. We had monthly tornado drills in school, so this made it seem very real to me. Very impressive. It makes me want to go find and compare the Mardi Gras explosion scenes and their second tornado many years later (although I think I remember that being a lot of CGI perhaps). I don't think I've seen those since they first aired. But for 1994, this was very well-done. Ahh - this was the start of Noah! And so many other great things - I really loved AMC from 91-96.

Yep, another good episode with a powerful and emotional ending! I'm really enjoying learning more about Anita's storyline, as they make small reveals each episode. It's also nice not being spoiled about these reveals! It was nice seeing Leslie interact with Derek/Ashley - keep mixing these characters and building a community, it's great. I had to LOL at Derek and Ashley studying the menu though, these people eat at Orphey Gene's every day, surely they have the menu memorized by now haha. Maybe these girls will finally make Bill figure out his problem.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I’m up to August 5, 1996. Another change to the opening music. The hollow whooshing sound is gone and they’ve add a soft rock, synthesizer-style sound to this more upbeat version. Ugh - they let Gilly and Griffin kiss before she found out the truth. So gross, what’s the point? And now once the truth has come out, Charles is like “oh yeah, I’ve always known he was your father, no big deal”? What was all of this for? If he really always knew, he should have had a reaction when Griffin came to town last year, just like Vivian did. I will say, the acting in the reveal scene was amazing, both actresses killed it. Now Vivian lost her husband, who is leaving her, and her daughter… and she already lost her son. The writers really trashed this entire family for nothing, how sad. She’s now running around town blaming everything on Griffin and trashing his name, but lady, no, it’s all your fault! I think I now just got to Gilly’s last episode (Aug 1). She just announced to the family at dinner that she’s leaving town for good and will not reach back out to her mother. What a terrible ending to this character and the family. Finally found a time I liked Alan. Marah (of course) and Shayne sneak away and go wandering on 5th street alone, but Shayne stays back in the abandoned building, just as they’re about to blow it up. Alan is sweet to Marah and realizes Shayne might still be there, so he runs to the building and tries to stop them from detonating the explosives, but he’s too late… he finally has a heart here haha. Although I guess this is still all his fault. Watching Josh and Reva react to Shayne’s voice from within the rubble was really moving, great acting across the board here (Annie too). Ok, so Zachary shows up while everyone runs away from the rubble that’s falling, and he steps into it and finds Shayne. So is he like an angel or something supernatural? Because I don’t love supernatural stuff on my soaps unless that’s ‘normal’ for the show. But Alan does eventually go in with Josh, so he’s risking his life to save Shayne, and that’s great. I was a huge Lucy/A-M fan and loved watching their relationship, but most couples work well when the actors have good chemistry. For me, now that Rick Hearst is gone, the relationship just isn’t working for me, sadly. I feel like Lucy and Zachary have better chemistry now haha. Abby’s mom has returned and she’s just highly frustrating and awful - that’s all. J just mentioned he has a sister - who is that? Unless she’s older and an adult, it’s a bit odd that she’s not around since now both Nola and Quint are in Springfield. She didn’t show at Henry’s funeral either, nor was mentioned. So Roger is now in the loony bin, after losing his court case. I’m side-eyeing Blake on this one. She was completely torn, which was nice to see, but she ultimately sided with Dinah/Hart which annoyed me. But, Bridget continues to win for me - she’s one of my favorites - and she just called out Dinah/Hart on their BS, and I’m here for it. If there were ever a moment for a slap, Dinah deserves one from Bridget. Speaking of slaps, I haven’t seen a single slap in the 18 months I’ve been watching this show! Does GL just not traditionally do slaps? It’s a soap staple that I enjoy haha. Alex continues to be one of my favorites, likely because I’m such a fan of Dusay, her theatrics and heavy breathing. She keeps referring to Amanda as “Little Miss Madame” and it cracks me up. Speaking of Amanda, she now just overheard nurses gossiping that Blake is having twins with two different fathers, so she knows the secret! This should get good now that she’s re-entered Ross/Blake’s orbit. Ah, so the A.Spaulding in question that paid Neil Everest off to frame Phillip was Alan-Michael! Well, Lucy found a check he wrote to Neil, so I’m assuming so… this isn’t that interesting of a storyline though, so hopefully this doesn’t drag on too much longer. Now I just found out that Neil and Alan were cellmates in prison…it keeps going. And finally, Annie just faked a prescription for more pills and she just saw a ‘bad Annie’ image of herself who is encouraging her addiction. Annie is officially talking to herself and since I know Jeva won’t allow a Josh/Annie relationship to survive, I’m all here for crazy Annie! Whoa! Griffin just got shot while giving a speech on 5th Street. Curious to see what happens here, even though I’m not a Griffin fan.
