Bold and Beautiful August 2021 Discussion
That would make perfect sense... have them connection on social media and text each other, forming a bond, and since he doesn't know what Sheila looks like, it would work. She knows it's his wedding day and then shows up to surprise him and he stands by her. But that would involve planning and not making up storylines at the last second...

Hmm, not sure. There's some discussion here. B&B was preempted Jan 24, 1995. https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/c/SkPaEKVmXp0/m/KBp26F1h-4gJ Looks like it did air Jan 25, but not at its usual time: https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/c/U6vEEfN0m4E/m/uoPKPT8gX9kJ

Thanks! Looks awesome. I looked into the OJ dates a bit since you mentioned that... what I have tracks pretty well with yours, except there was a show on July 11, 1994 https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.tv.soaps/c/O-4q-J_fUSA/m/zZEeBzT-62MJ https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.tv.soaps/c/bf0R8Orwig0/m/N3yidZqO8y0J

I'm a week behind, so maybe something happened in the meantime, but I thought the same. She's accused of a financial crime, surely she'd get out on bail and be able to take care of her son. Or are we supposed to believe that she was tried and convicted offscreen and is just in prison indefinitely now? Lol.

@JellyBeanthat spreadsheet is so SLICK, I can't believe you color coordinated and put the logo too, that looks so professional! I would love if you uploaded it to the vault. I have asked about this before and the problem with imdb is that there were a lot of pre-emptions during the summer of 1987 for the Iran-Contra Hearings, so that sort of messes up the dates and episode numbers from the start. I know a lot of people have tried but I don't think there is a fully confirmed list out there. Even for Y&R, we only have estimates for the dates (check out here, as of episode #3597: http://www.feuxdelamour.com/guide.pdf ) and of course we don't know if they were always preempted on the same days. If you check out the Cancelled Soaps section here, there's a thread where someone has been doing this for ATWT: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/56094-as-the-world-turns-full-episode-list/ Another resource is the Bell Script Archive which lists the dates and episode numbers on the scripts (I think this is how the Y&R guide was compiled) as of episode #83: http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/ucla/pasc/wjbell.pdf Those may be off due to unplanned news preemptions, but at least would account for planned sports and holiday preemptions. There are some episodes on archive.org if you search "bold beautiful 1987" "bold beautiful 1988" etc that can be used to compare against the episode #s in the vault to get a few milestones that are known to be correct. Episodes with commercials can be cross-referenced against TV listings for the shows advertised or compared to old recaps on Usenet (after 1990). The poster who does it for ATWT puts a little note next to the dates that are confirmed and the source, which is helpful. If you upload to the vault, then maybe everyone could colloborate with what they know, or maybe a separate thread would be better.

It's a stereotype in US television. Massage is associated with Swedish massage and they think all Swedes are named "Sven." Here is Phyllis doing an accent when giving Danny a massage in 1995: You're welcome! I have so many random clips I saved from YouTube over the years, but it's hard figuring out the dates. I'm grateful to the person who posted all those 1996 German episodes and to the person who uploaded those "Who Shot Victor" clips, which are almost complete as far as the Newman family scenes. It makes it easier to figure out the dates. I like to watch in order to, so its kind of an art watching trying to figure out the date without really getting into the clips! I have more from that storyline that are not dated yet. If you want I can upload them in a batch and maybe you or anyone else who wants to pitch in could help date them? PM or email me if you want That's the thing, when we look back at the 90s "lulls" in the show, there usually is at least one excellent storyline and the rest of the stories are solid. That storyline was as good as it gets. Olivia was always a difficult person, not a saint, but you felt so much for her because the stakes were so high. I never really liked Nathan, I thought he was pretty mean to her in a tough love kind of way when she was sick (like in the 1994 primetime ep). But to be fair I've not watched 1988-1992 yet and that's probably when he was at his best.

Sorry to reply to this conversation so late but wanted to reply to @AlexGrimaldi and share some more Italian clippings from Y&R. I have seen some clips up to at least March 1986 in Italian (Jill's press conference and Lauren being saved from being buried alive), so then if they skipped the rest of 1986, 1987, 1988, that is strange since those are the years that the show started in France and Germany (and we have the German episodes almost complete through mid-February 1988). I wonder if they did that to catch up Italy to the rest of Europe? I agree that replacing Ashley, Jill, and Jack all at once would be a lot to take. Here's a clip of March 1986. I have also heard that Sony's licensing fee is high, so that may be why Y&R isn't broadcast is as many countries nor has streaming options like B&B. I wonder if it confused some people (when they were using pop music as the theme song) when Nadia's Theme would play during the saddest and most important scenes. I guess they thought it was just another sad music cue. I have never seen those openings other than "I Don't Wanna Fight." Cool! I didn't know that. Thanks! I saw a new Italian clip as well. It's from June 1991. Here are some Italian clippings that I have. They do make quite a few mistakes (a picture of Janice Lynde when they name Victoria Mallory). November 6, 1985 (Italian dates) June 27, 1987 August 22, 1987 October 3, 1987 April 16, 1994 (talking about the Grand Ball - clearly the photo of Nikki is way too old) 1995 article about the name switch to "Amarsi" and Sheila's past

So apparently Steffy never told Finn until today that her mother was premused dead for years during her childhood lol. And when he was all shocked about Sheila's crimes, I wonder if he is aware that Steffy has killed a couple of her cousins, or tried... I love that Sheila's back but the story is very forced. Feels like it was built around JMW as the star of the show. It's not organic. I wish they would have had Thomas become involved with one of Sheila's existing daughters. Even Daisy, who did not work on Y&R, could have been recast for B&B. The idea of Thomas involved with a chick who is even crazier than he is, and then having him go against Sheila, would be far more interesting than involving her with bland Steffy and Finn.

I hope they don't make Sally Phyllis' daughter. That would too GH. They should be able to write conflict without doing that. I'm still not getting what was so awful that Sally did. I'm not a fan of hers (I was probably the only person who was happy she was off B&B). She got Summer a really great job offer? That Summer easily could have turned down? And also if Sally had the connections to do that, and has been hoping for a new start, why didn't she just take that job herself? There's nothing keeping her in GC. The whole story is a flop as usual.

I recall that Kay left Esther some rights to the mansion. The recap for that day says she gets $20k a month for the upkeep, so presumably this implies that she has the right to stay there whenever she wants as long as she cares for it. So she not only walked away from the mansion, but from a salary of $120k/year. Chance got 5% of her estate, nothing about the mansion, but I guess Jill is letting them live there (I don't think this was ever specifically spelled out on screen; it seems like people can just randomly decide they want to live in this studio-apartment sized "mansion.") https://www.soapcentral.com/young-and-restless/recaps/2013/130909.php Katherine's second bequest went to Esther, whom she left $20,000 a month for life, with the proviso that Esther would continue to care for the mansion. Esther had joyous tears as she agreed gladly.

Wow, that definitely makes me think the soaps are out there. Unfortunately I think a lot of these people are either not interested in soaps or think they are already uploaded somewhere. Whenever I have attempted to interact with people who upload VHS on YT or on the reddit VHS page they always seem to think there is already a catalogue with all the soap episodes available. There was someone who posted commercials only from a 1987 episode (which we later got in German) and I asked them to upload the full episode on archive and they were surprised that it wasn't already out there (and alas never did upload it).

My best guess, from talking to people who made compilations like this, is that they did transfer the clips onto a new tape, but then reused the original tape that had the full episodes, because tapes were expensive back then. I am so puzzled at how difficult it is to find episodes of a popular soap like Y&R when there is so much available of other shows. Part of it is Sony being aggressive, but even if they don't show up on YouTube, you would think at least they would be around on tape and DVD trading sites. @AlexGrimaldi Thanks, your posts are full of great info! I had wondered why the show changed its name to Amarsi. Focusing on the Sheila stories, while she was popular on Beautiful, was a good idea, I'm sorry it didn't work out. It all sounds so political. I always thought Y&R's glamour and emotion would appeal to Italians, as it so clearly connected with the French audience. One thing I don't understand is why the Tina Turner song instead of Nadia's Theme! It was ok, but doesn't feel like classic Y&R. I wish I had saved my grandfather's old magazines. I don't remember the names, only that the soap summaries were all on one page, on the last page of the magazine. Was your channel RestlessDuncan? It is so nice to connect with the original uploader of these clips after all these years. I would absolutely love seeing whatever you have. I just went through and uploaded the 80s/90s Italian I had in the Vault. I have some from 2000s but haven't yet figured out the dates and most likely we have them in English already. I uploaded a full episode 1990-05-22 clips from 1984, 1986, 1990, and 1993 Time jump (salto temporale) 1986-1989 I hope I've dated them correctly, someone can let me know if I'm wrong. Interestingly you have some clips, in Italian, of the aftermath of Paul shooting Michael, which we don't have in English (if I'm not mistaken). I think you had also uploaded clips about Nina and David but only a few seconds downloaded, and I always wished I would find the original uploader again. I also had this clip of Melody and Eric at the awards show. They do a pretty decent job speaking Italian! In his book, Eric talked about meeting Berlusconi, being invited to his restaurant and having dinner with AC Milan, an honor because Eric was a national champion in soccer/calcio. Those schedules are crazy indeed! 8-15 minutes a day!? There is almost no point in that. I guess it is not worth bothering to find recaps then. I am going to save your posts, this is really good history in case I need to refer to it later. The Radio Corriere site had day by day summaries of Sentieri (GL), which is convenient because it's a time period not really covered by other sources. Sentieri must have been really popular because I see a lot about it online even now. At least for Y&R we already have the German and French daily recaps starting January 1986. What would be incredible would be to find daily Italian recaps covering the US airdates before 1986, but I doubt they exist. Those clippings are so great! I will take a better look at those later and see if I have anything to add (all of mine would be from the Radio Corriere site, nothing original).

Grazie for this nice comprehensive reply I had saved a lot of clips over the years from YouTube and I have a few from the 2000s so they probably came from your channel. Unfortunately I did not always keep track of where I got the videos. I also have some 90s videos in Italian that were on YT ages ago... a full episode from May 1990 and some clips from 1993 (Cricket being attacked by Michael, some Sheila stuff, and Nikki/Cole). I can upload them to the vault. I would love to see whatever you have in Italian! It is so frustrating that YT deletes everything, because who knows how much is out there. I can PM you the guy I'm talking about but it is probably the one you're thinking of. That's disappointing to know the clips in the trailer come from you... I was hoping because they had those rare (to me) clips, it meant they were for real. I totally agree with you and I don't know why someone would run a scam for something as obscure as soap operas... if someone really has collected all that footage, then they must be a fan, and why do that to other fans... I don't get it! If only someone had saved those broadcasts with 1979-1983... we have almost NOTHING from those years. The cult storyline and the Victor dungeon are on the top of my list to see. I taped Y&R every day in the 90s and taped over those tapes, what a shame. Didn't realize the treasure that we had. There are a lot of missing gaps in the early 2000s too. I'm sure the footage is out there but YT deletes everything, so people don't share. The vault is such a godsend. By the way, do you know if there is anywhere that has summaries of the Italian broadcast. There are French and German daily summaries starting in 1986 and they are very helpful when figuring out the dates of old videos. German TV also gave the episodes titles which can be a good clue. Someone sent me the Radio Corriere archive, and I searched through it, but mostly when I found a picture of a Y&R actor there would be a description like "a drama set in small town USA." I found some summaries of the storylines starting around 1983 (US Dates) but they seem to be weekly recaps. It would be wonderful if there were daily summaries for the episodes from 1979! I'm from the US but my family is all Italian and I remember when my grandfather would go and bring back those magazines, and on the last page there would be a recap of "my shows" and I couldn't it believe the first time I saw it! Then I would tell my relatives from Europe about all the storylines that would happen in the coming years lol.

Yes! She played Angela Lawrence, daughter of Lorie's attorney, Robert Lawrence (from her trial of the attempted murder of Vanessa). If you take a look at the 11/29/82 episode in the vault, she's featured in that one and has a meatier role. She was also Traci's friend. The Lawrence family was clearly meant to be a bigger deal than they turned out.
