  1. Y&R and B&B had great subtle humor which works for the type of shows they are, but to me Passions is always gonna be more of a soap opera ā€œDramedyā€ more then any other show, besides Days which is up their with the ā€œDramedyā€ aspect imo.Ā

@YRfan23Ā I wasnā€™t entirely sure I hadnā€™t seen this before but once there was the scene of Dru proposing to Neil going to Crystal Lake, I remember us having a good laugh about that (Friday the 13th movies lol) when this was shared here several years ago. (Which Btw there is a real Crystal Lake thatā€™s close to the real Genoa City Wi.)

Haha, I haven't seen this one in a while but I forgot the "Crystal Lake" reference :DĀ

I love the discussion these classic episodes musters! :)Ā I can't believe some people are upset that they aired a true classic over the current crap....It's frustrating.Ā

  5. It was Summer 2000 I started watching Passions, with the Prom Boat Disaster. I always use to think Passions was the definite summertime Soap, along with Days. Sadly it's kind of a thing in the past now for the soaps to draw in younger viewers during the Summer.Ā

Little contribution from my old tapes: episode from May 1999. I think it was good episode but I assume it gets deleted when we reach 1999 eppies. Still there you go šŸ˜

    Thanks so much! :DĀ

Skimmed through the episode, Didn't know Bruce Michael Hall (Resse on Passions and Joey on OLTL) was on B&B.Ā

It's so terrible to say this, but if someone actually had the nerve to have Brad Bell arrested for his writing, I would laugh my a$$ off! :DĀ

Is this the episode where Victor schools an unpatriotic man in the importance of 4th of July while having dinner with Ashley at Ginaā€™s?Ā

And yes haha Thudley hates classics unless itā€™s an Lame wedding or something šŸ˜‚

Haha no that was the 1991 4th of July :DĀ I kind of wish theyā€™d showed that one only cause it was better then the 1992 one imo.Ā

We do have the original broadcast in the vault but thatā€™s so great they are showing it! :DĀ

Lol..at least B&B has plenty of their classics on their offficial site and video land etcā€¦.but Bradley is still proving to be as clueless as ever when it comes to what he considers classic šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚Ā

A note on the ratings. I will be pausing the posts on the ratings for a bit due to time constraints. Look more towards probably August for the regular ratings posts to return. And 1980's ratings fans, as a teaser, you now have a LOT more to look forward to than just the first year (1980) of the decade!!

We have really appreciated all the work you have done getting these posted! :DĀ and OMG, that's gonna be awesome if you have ratings for 1981, 1982 etc...eventually! :DĀ

    Thanks so much!!Ā

  11. The vibe Iā€™m getting is that Eva and Braeden really didnā€™t get to interact a lot on set? Or barely get to say hello to each other or maybe never even met.Ā Ā I donā€™t feel like either would have said that about the other if they had actually gotten to get to know one another during their time on the showā€¦I remember Eva being really upset when Jeanne passed, Ā though we did see them interact onscreen.

By the time I started watching Y&R around 89/90, Carl was barely there or already gone, but I thought he did an excellent job in his amnesia/return storyline and I think they made a mistake in writing him out for good at that time. He was a very solid presence with a spark about him - frankly, better than the part itself. I hope his last years were peaceful.

Itā€™s a shame we donā€™t have that much of his, well as far as anything from the early 80s but it definitely was a mistake that he didnā€™t get to stay on throughout the course of the 90s, and that Bill Bell or Kay Alden wouldnā€™t have had to do the odd amnesia story, as good as it might have been told. He was definitely believable in the detective role and had great father/son Chemistry with Doug Davidson.Ā

You're welcome!Ā  I mainly wanted the "Days" ratings, but it's nice to also be able to provide the other soap ratings as well, and the extra unexpected benefit is also getting all of the full preemption data for all of the soaps!

I didn't even remember when typing it today that you were on the lookout for a YR preemption at some point during this time in 1978. So the mystery is finally solved!

I canā€™t thank you enough for providing the info my friend! :DĀ

My understanding is there's a limit on the number of "breakouts" (or uncounted episodes) they can air in a single season.

If they know in advance the rest of theĀ  line-up is going to be preempted, such as for the U.S. Open back in the day, they might have one new episode of one series that aired in select time zones and was preempted in other time zones due to the Open coverage.Ā  Or maybe that episode would air in all of the time zones, but would play to a limited audience due to the rest of the line-up being preempted.Ā  That would be an example of one they would ask Nielsen NOT to count.Ā  Ā

    Thanks for that explanation! :DĀ

so is it possible that maybe some affiliates did get new episodes of Y&R that day and others didnā€™t? Would they just show the same episode on Tuesday if that was the case so the other affiliates could catch up?

As far as I know, all breakout means is the network tells Nielsen it does not want that episode counted as part of the weekly/yearly averages, since those breakout episodes (airing on much smaller amount of affiliates) would bring down the overall weekly/yearly averages.Ā  It does not mean it is a repeat. What I had said earlier about the YR 9/4/78 is that I could not confirm whether it was a new episode or a repeat just on the basis of it being a breakout.

Thanks, itā€™s too bad they are vague with that but Iā€™m excited to see the other weeks leading towards the end of the year, that will help too. :)Ā
