GH: January 2024 Discussion Thread
There was a moment in Brenda's return right before the wedding where Robin and Brenda are talking crap about Carly (who had literally snuck into Jason's place lol) and Carly was eavesdropping and she cried over what they said. It was one of the rare times I thought Carly actually felt intimated by these women and worked for the character.

Laura Wright just seems like the popular girl in high school even though she's 50 plus now. What you are saying makes sense because I do have a hard time believing she was an outcast or struggled. But her version of Carly really hasn't struggled. She doesn't have an enemy like Robin or Brenda that makes her feel on the outs or not popular if that makes sense? She has Nina who is clearly scared of Carly.

At the risk of contradicting myself and my previous posts, is this just perhaps Carly's natural evolution over time? I still think it's a different character than SJB played, but the woman has multiple kids and grandkids at this point and is in her 50's now. The core of the character may have changed a bit, but she certainly hasn't been a down on her luck, hardscrabble character in 20 years now. She's been married to 2 millionaires and is well received all over town. I don't know if this is the trajectory I would have taken Carly on but it makes sense she lost some of her edge.

Yeah, it's refreshing to see someone actively doing their job and wanting to be there. I don't think anyone will embody the role like Tyler. I feel the same about LW. She's not my favorite Carly by any stretch, but she shows up to do her job and gives it her all. Which is still very good.

From Eileen's own words printed in the press? She doesn't want a full time gig at Days and Days wants a Kristen. SH fills that role and is available. I don't like it, but it's not like ED wasn't offered the role back or anything. I wish Vanessa Marcil was on my screen everyday as Brenda, but that's not a possibility at this time. Some things are what they are lol.

I genuinely prefer Missy. I find Cady McClain a bit cold in delivery, but she was a fine recast and willing to work and do the part to the best of her ability. There is very little you can do when the OG actress doesn't want to come back lol. There are a lot of reasons outside politics that I find Missy problematic. She full on left her job in the middle of her contract and got to come back for several years in a leading status. I don't know any job that would provide that. And, yeah, I'd like to see Jen every now and then, but I don't know how many chances you can give an actress.

Thank you for finding that scene!!😍 Marlena and Abe have such a solid friendship. I love this scene because it's one of the few times Marlena has autonomy about her own feelings and expresses them. She doesn't get her perspective out a lot in this storyline because obviously what John/Roman are going through is so much bigger. Not directed at you @Donna L. Bridges but I also love that Missy being conservative is the issue here. Um, no, she actually just won't commit to Days full time. I have my own issues with her beliefs and politics but that's not why she isn't on Days currently. Steve Burton is pretty damn conservative and bff with Scott and Missy and is fully employed by two soaps.

ALL: And Now You Must Marry Me Trope
Lily and Sonny on GH? Sonny had to marry her to stay out of jail because her dad wanted him to. Dumb and a recipe for disaster clearly.

But who? Both Wendy and Chanel are way too intelligent for him. Holly even seems more intelligent than him and she just OD'd on bad pills and is in a coma lol. I honestly get the feeling Chanel knows he's dumb and just accepts it because she loves him. When he's not Possessed by the Devil he's a fairly nice guy and treats her well.

Lol! I remember that. Again, I still find Johnny a likeable guy. He just doesn't seem book smart or street smart in any way. He's just adorably clueless about most things. Whatever, not every character has to be super intelligent. I prefer Johnny as himbo instead of the show telling us how smart he is. I agree with everyone about Marlena/John being judge-y. They really aren't. I can see Sloan being intimidated by Marlena and all, but there really is no reason for Marlena to dislike Sloan. She makes Eric happy and is the "mother" of her grandchild. Marlena/John let KRISTEN live in their home to help Brady with something (I honestly don't remember). I can see Marlena preferring Nicole to Sloan, but Sloan objectively really hasn't done anything wrong as far as Marlena knows.
