  1. Humour and drama work together. That’s why the theatre mask has both the comedy and the drama. Even Shakespeare’s tragedy had humorous bits. You really need both. The definition of drama is not the absence of humour, the definition of drama is conflict…which tbh, JG doesn’t know how to do proficiently either.
  2. Exhibit A of when “American oligarchs” are running the show.
  3. That is very cool. I am almost tempted to watch the episode when it debuts. On another note, that joke that Melody told about Eric carrying her up the stairs again and Eric’s reaction made me wonder why, in the last times I have watched Y&R they don’t give Nikki and Victor a sense of humor, at least in how they relate to each other. The last time I watched, Victor was constantly ‘babying’ Nikki, almost like she was a child or a porcelain doll but the way Eric and MTS banter with each other IRL is more entertaining to me. One of the things I miss about when I used to watch ATWT was how quirky and funny they would make characters like Lucinda Walsh and John Dixon and Lisa. Even Bob Hughes would give a “Grouch Marx” laugh and a Dad joke, every now and then.
  4. Anyone who sees Cooper as controlling the moment during that segment is seeing something completely different from what I saw. Don’t get me wrong, Charlemagne is far from special, he handled AC the manner that any dude in the barbershop could have flustered Cooper but the point is that Charlemagne did frazzle AC and it showed and I agree that AC did not have the wherewithal to recover during that segment.
  5. Brian McColl worked best as something of a hothead imo but yeah, with Tom Hughes occupying a very clear place on the canvas, there seemed to be less room for a Brian (unless they were going to make him Tom’s opposite, a confirmed bachelor, maybe a dedicated “player” and womanizer). When he appeared on Y&R for a brief story arc, he portrayed a sleazy politician which MP seemed to get into with gusto with success.
  6. Wasn’t Scandal a soap, albeit a primetime soap? I don’t think daytime dramas can rebuild relevance without some risk. I get a lot of reports concerning the state of the entertainment industry and the studies cited illustrate that topical subject matter with diverse BIPOC casts tends to result in very successful ratings and box office. Shondaland was built on this principle. Something tells me that Rhimes might just be a major influence on what MVJ is trying to achieve.
  7. For those of you still on Twitter, apparently there is an account dedicated to nothing but gift links to articles. Here is the handle: @springwatch2020
  8. That rally in Atlanta last night was MASSIVE! A reminder of the precious nature of the act of voting and how many people actually hold this act dear.
  9. Charlemagne, not my favorite but he made several salient points and I appreciated his relentlessness about driving those points repeatedly. The fact that he had Anderson Cooper frazzled was kind of the cherry on top of the parfait. Another aspect that I don’t think media is up to having an honest discussion about is how these billionaires are wrecking these legacy newspapers for the benefit of their own personal interests.
  10. So, Sharapova is a first ballot pick for the HOF, doping be damned? Definitely paving the way for Simona and Sinner, when the time comes, I guess.
  11. Wannabe oligarch who wants to control the content of the newspaper he managed to acquire. Apparently, he was born in South Africa. No, not that wannabe oligarch. LA Times editorials editor quits after billionaire owner reportedly blocked paper from endorsing Harris
  12. It makes me wonder if perhaps, instead of January, they are looking to premiere in February or March. Didn’t B&B premiere in March? It seems to have worked for them. Of course, February has cultural significance.
  13. Speaking of Black voters, I just voted Blue all the way through!
  14. Whoa. https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/upld/thumbnails/en/information/nhkworld_chinese_language_radio_news_bulletin_20241011.pdf My point is that the very community that these tactics are supposed to reach don’t care to respond, this is not 2016. Owens and Brown are jokes that nobody within the community take seriously.
  15. Not trying to be rude or mean but are you sure these are real Black men and not people posing as Black men? The round table discussions I have watched Black men are saying, that while they don’t think they are the problem (still noting how many white men and white women who were formerly Democrats-anyone remember those who claimed to have voted for Obama twice before voting for 45?-broke bad for 45) the majority said they understood why Obama felt compelled to speak and say what he said. And what we’re not gonna do is use the likes of Candace Owens and Joe Brown (last seen trying to beg his estranged wife to reunite with him) as representative of any sort of community lol. ‘Judge’ Joe Brown and Candace Owens spent years denigrating Black men, wtf would any listen to either of them now?? Are people still breathlessly watching these polls? Seriously?
  16. Sometime ago, I posted the possibility that they may not go full tilt in promotion until after the election. Consider it- the attention of the majority of the target audience will likely be consumed with the campaign of VP Harris through Election Day. Would they really want to try to compete with that?
  17. I also preferred Yolanda to Harmony. I think Debbi Morgan was miscast as was new Tucker (Stephen Nichols). Of course, it didn’t help that the writing was so convoluted scattershot and just plain goofy. From what I saw, her recent appearances on Y&R are virtual walk ons.
  18. The Internet being the Internet, some people are tying the E. Coli outbreak into Trump’s recent stunt at McDonald’s, especially since some people noted that he didn’t appear to be any sanitary precautions prior to food handling. The Internet conspiracy theories give and the Internet conspiracy theories take. This time it’s giving.
  19. Ugh, I forgot about that one with Kesha! I must’ve erased it from my memory, so egregious as that example is. G
  20. It’s what he deserves. Central Park Five sue Trump for defamation over debate remarks
  21. Still hoping that Loren Lott is cast on Beyond The Gates (or whatever the soap is ultimately called) or a soap where her talents will be utilized and appreciated.
  22. Why doesn’t Walter specify that she’s talking about white men and white women?
  23. Please remember that not every Arab is Muslim and vice versa. That fact aside, claiming to vote for someone so odious and racist is the definition of cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face. Better they just stay home, which, who can say for sure if they make the trek to the ballot box?
  24. Tonya Lee Williams is Afro Canadian Jamaican. Mishael is Afro and Indo-Trinidadian, aka “Dougla”.
  25. If people showing up to vote in record breaking numbers favored Republicans, I doubt many would seemingly do all they can to suppress the numbers of of people able to cast their votes. JMO, the GOP tends to benefit from lower voter turnout in many districts. Also, did anyone know that this was going on? https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/mail-carriers-and-usps-reach-tentative-contract-that-includes-raises-and-air-conditioned-trucks I know media only reports on the contentious labor issues but given the current election cycle we are currently in, so close to Election Day this seems important.
