I have to say that the Aussie players are the worse….and yet we have Darren Cahill pimping them to the hills….Kyrgios and Tomic's behavior on and off the court are just terrible. Who wants to root for players like them? It's kind of weird that Lleyton is now the elder statesmen with his history (some unsavory rumors about what facilitated his breakup with Clijsters, not to mention that racially incendiary incident that he instigated with James Blake at the U.S. Open) but I guess time has matured him, so maybe there is hope for Kyrgios. What I do not like in equal measure to Nick's antics are the people on social media who use this as a pretext to hurl racist remarks against Kyrgios (e.g. someone posted that '...you can take the boy out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of the boy..."). Kyrgios' behavior has nothing to do with his color or his ethnicity. I feel bad for Kokk being dragged into this whole thing and part of me wishes that Vekic would tell everyone that she has no ring on her finger so who she sleeps with is nobody else's concern but hers but I wish Stan would stop playing victim on social media because his life has been a mess for months and he plays the victim every single time. I wonder what Stan's estranged soon to be ex wife things of all this. Could it be...? https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video/CMQpDoSWcAA0sGI.mp4

@ Soapsuds, I went to bed soon after I posted this but I'm eating breakfast, checked social media and Nick is STILL Trending!! I saw parts of the Pospisil/Isner match but Tsonga/Andujar was going on at the same time, so I was going back and forth between the two matches but mostly watching Tsonga. I'm glad I missed Gimme's antics (LOL). I knew Justin was too much about himself when I was reading a book about the Women's tennis tour called Venus Envy and he mentions that he thought Venus was into him and sounded hurt when he came to the realization that she really just wanted to play tennis with him (they were doubles partners at the time). And recently someone posted a "throwback photo" of Justin with his arms tightly around the waist of Venus Wiliams, I found it a bit creepy since, I mean, she was still a teenager! Here's video of the Kyrgios incident and the very brief on court interview: http://www.sportsnet.ca/tennis/rogers-cup/kyrgios-goes-viral-during-match-with-wawrinka/

Not only that but Dimitrov allegedly has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Bulgarian model who is allegedly been going around saying that they slept together. I don't think this lawsuit will get Sugarpova back. Speaking of sexual innuendo, I'm watching this contentious Kyrgios vs. Wawrinka match and Nick, pissed and in a hail of obscenity blurted out "Sorry to tell you mate, but Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend". I'm thinking Nick was talking about Stan's rumored fairly recent, barely legal girlfriend Donna Vekic. At first, I wasn't sure what I'd heard but within minutes there was a Vine (with audio) all over Twitter and it sounds like what I thought. OMG!

I haven't been closely following this case but apparently Kelly Rutherford (Generations, Gossip Girl) has lost custody of her children: http://abc7ny.com/entertainment/kelly-rutherford-loses-custody-of-2-children/921342/

Yeah, that was pretty bad to read. Yesterday a lot of Indian and Pakistani Americans were posting how embarrassed they are to have Jindal as part of the South Asian American/Desi community. Jindal just doesn't seem to know what he's doing. He's managed the state's budget very poorly and because he wasted money from the state's coffers by squandering it on needless corporate tax breaks, so now he has to rob Peter to pay Paul to try to fill an enormous budget deficit that LA now has. Everything about the way he's been going about things is wrong.

Bill Cosby
It can definitely be both. I never thought of the victims that may have passed away but given the span of ages and Cosby's prolific predatory history, that's entirely possible. That makes me even sadder. What this industry (and probably many others) does not want to admit that there is a culture of casual acceptance on much older men pursuing, and sometimes preying on younger women who are often looking for advice, mentor-ship, access to opportunities within the industry. There were a few times when I encountered a few at some events and because I'm naturally suspicious I blocked efforts quickly or was fortunate to discover what the person was after while meeting him in a public place but in none of those incidents involved someone of Cosby's magnitude and if I were a more open person...there but for the grace of God, you know?

The NYT has done some good journalism but that has mainly to do with their longform and series stories (Ebola, China's Rural to Urban movement, NYC's toxic nail salons and halfway houses) which most don't bother to read. Many of their shorter articles (1-3 pages) can often get the details wrong in their quest to court clicks. I think in an effort to appear as though they are not being soft on Hilllary, they've gone too far and I'd be pissed if I were the Hillary campaign. The only reason why they've come forward is because people (other journalists/pundits) came forward and pointed it out on several Sunday news shows, which forced the editorial staff at NY Times to print what amounts to a de facto retraction. If Clinton's camp is smart, they will use this to their advantage.

Pill Cosby, Woody Allen, Roman Polansky...and they wonder why more women don't 'Lean In' to get ahead our respective fields. We're too busy trying to protect ourselves. Let's face it, most women can't go out with a V.I.P. to the steakhouse and knock back whiskeys to curry favor like other guys do. Does that empty chair make anyone else feel really sad? Not only does it remind me of the woman/women who feel they cannot come forward but it reminds me that there are other predators in the industry whose identities are still being shielded from exposure.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Some of you may know about the work of the Equal Justice Initiative, founded by Bryan Stevenson-- they are most recently known for doing work with contemporary civil rights issues and working with public figures like Serena Williams who launched an advocacy outreach earlier this year. Michael B. Jordan will be playing Stevenson in a film based on a critically acclaimed book written by Stevenson. http://blogs.indiewire.com/shadowandact/michael-b-jordan-adds-adaptation-of-acclaimed-nonfiction-bestseller-just-mercy-to-his-slate-20150724?utm_source=saDaily_newsletter&utm_medium=sailthru_newsletter

Unsung
The episode with Chuck Brown and GoGo Music was good, although I'm surprised they didn't mentioned the controversy concerning the Waterdance song and the DJ who got sued for lifting the melody from another GoGo group, besides EU's Da Butt, the Waterdance song was another song that became pretty popular outside of D.C. Not being from the D.C. area myself, I never knew that GoGo music was being blamed for the rampant violence of the 80s and early 1990s in D.C. I thought the crack epidemic and the flood of guns had more to do with that than any other factor. The Kid n Play episode was a treat-- I'd forgotten how much fun their music was and yeah, that's part of my childhood right there (lol). At the risk of sounding unkind, Christopher Reid (Kid) looks to be aging sorta badly so when he began to recount his tangle with DUIs and alcohol and his prolific weed habit I was not surprised, but at least it seems like he is trying to be consistent in returning to a balanced life. Why doesn't Unsung archive their old episodes on their website? I missed all of last seasons Unsung Hollywood (and I was really looking forward to seeing the A Different World episode) and because I no longer subscribe to cable, I rely on seeing episodes on their website. Do they really think people are going to pirate and sell these episodes or something? These episodes are interesting but the production values are still not top drawer for someone to try to profit from them or anything.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Speaking of Rick Springfield, he will be in a film starring Meryl Streep and Mamie Gummer (Streep's daughter) called Ricki and the Flash. Just a guess but I think he may be playing the boyfriend/fellow musician of Streep's character.

Man, we were just discussing the Aussies yesterday and now it looks like they are in trouble against Kazakhstan! Kukushkin is actually ranked higher than Thanasi but what the heck happened with Kyrios?! Looks like they are gonna have to rely on nearly retired Hewitt to try and bail them out in the doubles. Meanwhile Tomic is fresh out of the slammer, I guess. The Aussies looked so good in the previous round, now they look a total mess!

The Tennis Thread
I think Tomic has some talent but talent isn't everything, it's all in how you manifest and grow that talent and Tomic's talent has barely gotten out of a talented Juniors status. For at least the last year or so, I've believed that both Kyrios and Kokkinakis will be better than Tomic. If Kyrios would get focused and stop with the antics, he would already have been ranked above Tomic by now. From the first time I saw Kokkinakis when he was still a junior playing as a replacement during the Hopman Cup, I liked his attitude. If he can learn how to play more efficiently, not get caught up in so many 5 set matches, especially in the early rounds, I think he has the ability to eventually pass both Kyrios and Tomic. I think Kokk's less efficient style of play is mainly due to his lack of experience but at what, 6 foot 3 and a nice big serve, he really shouldn't have to grind so much, particularly on faster surfaces. His ability to grind, though, is great for clay and he's had some pretty good results on that surface. That being said, if Tomic continues along his path to nowhere, his younger mates will pass him on the way up the rankings- sooner rather than later.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Ugh, that's too bad. P&G and their selfish hoarding probably. I used to work for an arts organization where part of my job was to work in the archives and we'd often get students, professors and researchers that wanted access to view certain videos in our archives and requested permission to view them at an onsite location. Part of me fantasizes that somehow the silence from the Soap Classics people and the fact that PGN even still exists may mean that P&G is working on maybe continuing the digitalization process to maybe stream again sometime in the future? With so many options for streaming these days, it seems like such a waste to let your archives just sit in storage. Even museums are digitizing their work and you can now go online and view paintings and portraits. Hulu and Hulu Plus is a joint venture between various networks to provide a digital/streaming platform for mostly televisions shows online and network. Wouldn't it be great if something similar could've happened with classic soaps?

Are you serious?! How does one access those episodes? Do you need to request permission? Man, had I known about this when I was still a grad student, I'd have totally tried to use my credentials to claim I was doing research...or something. My mouth is watering just reading about this. Or is it my eyes?

I read somewhere that his wealth is most likely in the hundreds of millions, not billions. It's going to be fun to guess how much farther his personal wealth drops. Carlos Slim, an actual billionaire (who once topped the world's wealthiest a few years ago), who also happens to be Mexican dumped Trump on a very lucrative deal they were supposed working together on. Cumulatively, this is going to bite the Donald in the pocketbook. America Ferrera's open letter was great. No doubt the maker of those Donald Trump piñatas has to be a big winner right now.

and Donald Trump is trying to take several pages out of the Huckabee handbook. He knows he doesn't have a shot at being President but that is beside the point. Like Huckabee, he will seek to fatten his coffers by building a 'base' in hopes of getting lucrative speaking engagements and a pundit's chair where he can spout nonsense and have an audience actually listen. I'd wager that very few of the Republican candidates right now believe they have a real shot at the Presidency, and they plan to follow the Palin or Huckabee route to financial enrichment.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I watched an episode from August 1984 and realized that in a scene between Phillip Spaulding and India von Halkien, the music used is the same piece of music that As The World turns would use about 2 years later in a restaurant scenes between Barbara Ryan and Duncan McKechnie. I remember it so well because I think someone mentioned that it was from the Apocalypse Now soundtrack. And here I was thinking that some of the music used on GL at this time had maybe more in common with Y&R than ATWT. Some of those Gothic scenes at Annabelle & Tony Reardon's cottage sound similar to what Y&R sometimes used in scenes in the 80s and 90s but the scene with Phillip and India really linked it to ATWT.

I've been listening to this crazy tennis podcast I randomly came across several weeks ago. It's a laugh riot. On the eve, of the Wimbledon draw (which I am not getting up for if it's too early), this podcast announced that they are having a Live podcast on Google+ tomorrow night at 11:30pm-- yes, it is late but this podcast is not for the kiddies anyway. https://realztenisfanz.wordpress.com/2015/06/24/realztenisfanz-podcast-16-is-going-live-62615/ I must warn that if you have a delicate sensibility and curse words offend you, this podcast is most likely, not for you. Personally, I think anyone who frequents SON can take it (LOL). Personally, I find it raucous, no holes barred entertainment. And can be surprisingly insightful. Speaking of raucous- Did anyone see what happened to Kokkinakis at the Boodles exhibition tournament?! I don't remember people in the crowd getting this raunchy!

Unsung
Wow, I never knew that Syreeta did that duet with Smokey Robinson for The Last Dragon soundtrack! I immediately liked that song, and remember it still. It was one of the gems among a surprisingly weak soundtrack, considering the fact that Berry Gordy produced the whole shebang. (I read somewhere last week that the film is now on DVD). Maybe if you're on Facebook or Twitter you can suggest Syreeta Wright there? I noticed that the producers of the Unsung documentaries even have their own Twitter page. Sounds like you could be a consultant on that Syreeta Write documentary, you're very knowledgeable. Is it just me or does it seem as if women don't truly get their due on this series? Especially the women of classic R&B, rock and rap. Besides Sylvia Robinson (who brought the Sugar Hill Gang to prominence on her record label), I am curious about the life and career of Dee Dee Warwick as I heard a few songs of hers recently and realized I don't know anything about her, other than the fact that she's Dionne Warwick's sister but she has a very soulful style, which contrasts from Dionne's pop style and I just wonder where the two sisters' style diverged- was it intentional? Or did each sister naturally gravitate to their preferred style? Rose Marie McCoy, an R&B and blues Songwriter. She along with her frequent collaborator Charles Singleton wrote hit songs for the likes of Louis Jordan, Elvis Presley, Ruth Brown and Sarah Vaughan as well as a bunch of other artists that covered her songs-- from Aretha, Nat King Cole, all the way down to Faith Hill. Also, although she's a reggae singer, Marcia Griffiths may be better known in the U.S. as the lady who sings the Electric Slide song. She's got a very storied career, as a solo artist, singing backup for Bob Marley & the Wailers (along with Bob's wife Rita) and she's still very active as a solo singer. Some of the singers that have sadly recently passed-- the lead singers of The Brothers Johnson and Hot Chocolate, who were big in the 70s and whose songs can still be heard on radio and TV commercials (who hasn't heard You Sexy Thing?) Yeah, those are a few.
