  1. Some of these Lemonade inspired memes that are being put out there are pretty hilarious.
  2. Dick Pound criticizing Djokovic's coments on doping, likening them to sounding like Lance Armstrong's argument: Novak Djokovic attitude to doping is 'the Lance Armstrong approach'
  3. This episode with Sierra in bed with Tonio and fantasizing about Craig! And Craig and Lucinda's fight. This all makes today's daytime look amateurish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2E9zGOA5t4
  4. It's too bad the Aussie players don't seem to have much regard for Pat Rafter. It's kind of laughable that anyone expects Hewitt to be a role model for these young guys. Tennis could do itself an enormous favor if it simply had this Challenger tournament supervisor and the Umpire at that particular match make a one time statement giving a detailed account of what happened to clear up any speculation and questions. As it is, I saw a statement from Medvedev apologizing to Donald Young. He seems to accept the default, claims he does not remember all that he said (m'kay), yet refutes that he could've said anything racist. These players have got to come up with better excuses.
  5. I saw the clip, I think, the day before yesterday. I can't believe I never mentioned it! I saw some people on social media asking for proof and chiding people to stop being so sensitive. I hate how people try to sweep certain ugly situations under the rug. Hewitt got off scott-free with no repurcussions from the insulting insinuations he made about James Blake that time they played the U.S. Open and now this guy, who should know better. Nick Kyrgios got raked over the coals over his mid-match comments to Stan but when someone makes a racist or sexist comment, people want to dismiss it as overall ignorance and move on right away. Tennis needs to get their priorities straight. You can't claim to be an inclusive sport when you let comments like these stand and just sweep it under the proverbial rug. As it is, among the so-called tennis journalists there's been very little follow-up on this story since it initially happened. I wonder whether there will be any disclosures about what Medvedev actually said. Tennis needs to stop hiding things and just be transparent when these incidents happen- give a full accounting of what we didn't hear/see.
  6. Speaking of your favorite tennis power couple Kidding, of course.
  7. According to this article in the Nation, Brooklyn's voter purge could've been avoided had the Supreme Court not gutted the Voting Rights Act. http://www.thenation.com/article/new-york-had-the-second-lowest-voter-turnout-so-far-this-election-season/ Then there's the articles like these that basically say the Primary is over. http://www.businessinsider.com/hillary-clinton-democratic-nomination-bernie-sanders-2016-4
  8. I've been seeing this article floating around since so many people have been talking about it but I haven't yet had the chance to read it. I guess today's as good a day as any! Thanks @Soapsuds.
  9. I also really don't want to hear from people who claim disenfranchisement when they couldn't be bothered to do paperwork to change party affiliation from Independent to Democrat, they had plenty of time. Most states have closed primaries and have had it for many years now. Why complain now, all of a sudden? As for the polling issues, they've always been an issue and the comptroller is auditing the system but so far, the concensus appears to be that it did not stop the masses of people who wanted to vote from voting-- most people who made sure that they were registered and checked their proper polling places were able to vote. The Sanders campaign is complaining that NY has some serious problems but why did he make the NY Primary the end all and be all ? If you go back to his rally speeches (while Clinton, with less fanfare went to Churches, Senior centers, diners, community centers, etc) his surrogates/campaign basically stated that should his opponent lose, she should get out of the race, especially after his string of recent primary wins. He demanded a debate in NY, Brooklyn, his birthplace and the media, eager for something to promote and market took up the lead and went to make the NY Primary this big deal. Yes, in terms of delegates, NY is kind of a big deal, but the end all/be all??? What about Pennsylvania? California? The simple fact is that having Yuuge rallies is not a determining factor of who will actually vote. Onlookers, tourists and people who are not voting may very well have mixed in with supporters. Why did Bernie go speak at a Church only two days before the primary? It makes his appearance look like an afterthought. People can scoff at Hillary playing dominoes in East Harlem or having bubble tea in Queens or a sundae in the East Village but people like and have come to expect their candidates to mix and mingle with the actual masses and not just make pronouncements on high from raised platforms at rallies. Then when Sanders saw that he was behind by double digits, he began to mock Clinton for only being up by 10 points (she was actually ahead by more than that) but the fact is that Sanders outspent Clinton by 2-1, he repeatedly claimed his Brooklyn heritage but other than losing by modest amounts in Brooklyn, he didn't make many inroads in NYC (he did the worst in the Bronx, the poorest borough in the city, clearly Bronx Democrats did not buy his promises to relieve income inequality) and his best showing were parts of upstate where voter turnout was low and especially those parts near the Vermont border. Yet, not one peep from the Clinton camp about him dropping out. No one is even suggesting that he do so because those people seem to realize that it would be unseemly to suggest that a candidate drop out with the other 1/3 of states left to vote.
  10. Andy's redeeming quality is that he at least lobbied for Serena to get the SI Sportsperson of the Year Award. He's always spoken up for her, saying they've been friends since they were young and he admitted to being a brat many times in his career during an interview w/Jon Wertheim. He seems a little more humble these days, could it be the receding hairline? Ana can look beautiful when she is dressed up and made up although sometimes a bit too thin. Supposedly she's supposed to be married in a couple months. We've seen a lot of broken engagements in tennis over the years (most recently Woz and Petra) but it looks like Ana may actually make it to the altar with the German racecar driver. Speaking of couples you may not have known about, I recently found out that they used to be an item:
  11. Very very long article but rich with detail on why this woman, well, I'll let you read for yourself: On Becoming Anti-Bernie
  12. Well, in Russia, they now accept that women are named Sasha but for them Sasha is a diminuitive of Alexander, like Misha (bear) is to Mikhail. I actually think Sasha is kind of cute, remember that 90's actor Sasha Mitchell? I hated Step By Step but I thought he was kind of cute, back in the day. I always got the idea that Djokovic had a thing for Ivanovic who never gave him the time of day. I think when she constantly kept saying that he was 'like a brother' to her, he took the hint. I have no proof, just the way he used to look at her whenever they played Hopman Cup or were ever around each other for certain events. Before Djokovic and Jelena got engaged, I used to joke that while Jelena obviously looked at him with stars in her eyes, had Ana gave him half a chance, he'd be at her beck and call. I don't joke about that anymore since he got married and had a kid, seems kind of mean and pointless now.
  13. Just saw the dress….Lord….awful…LOL….looks like she is going to do an underwear modeling shoot….LOL I am sure Karen's name is pronounced differently in Russia. It just threw me when I saw it at the beginning of the match. RBA reminds me of the male version of Chris Evert. He plays just like her….LOL. I have to say though that he never gives up and is a fighter. I still remember how pesky he was against Berdych at the Aussie Open this year. My cousin is a woman, by the way, I neglected to say that before. So the name does first and foremost, register as a woman's name to me, as do the others I mentioned but I just have to remind myself sometimes that they weren't always. Esther Satarova (that's her name right?) kind of resembles that vapid Euro-model type that lots of ATPers seem to go for. Same caramel colored hair, same blank expression, like she'd rather be filing her nails in the stands, same general look. When I say ATPers, I'm not really talking about most of the Top 10, but those guys in the middle ranks, some ex-players and almost all of the players from the Balkans. I mean, get some variety, already!
  14. I agree, I think Lucie is more attractive than his current wife (did you see her wedding dress? It is a MUST SEE!) but for all the amount of time Lucie and Berdych were together they actually started to kind of resemble each other to me for a weird reason. I have a cousin with that name but I was thinking of a more masculine pronunciation like Kah' REN. That sounds better. Then again, I have to remember that Stacey, Tracey, and Vivian all started out as male names. Sasha is still regarded as a male name in Eastern Europe. I've only seen 1 or 2 Challenger matches with Kharachanov so I'm not fully familiar with his game, but I have heard some people claim that RBA has a hollow game and has been able to get away with it, especially on clay. I didn't really believe it until today.
  15. Good for Lucie, she seems like a nice person and with her level of success, there's no reason for her not to find someone, especially with her going through rough times lately and her ex enjoying wedded bliss. So some young Russian, whose tennis idols are Marat Safin and Juan Martin del Potro knocked out Roberto Bautista Agut, in Agut's home tournament in Barcelona. I didn't see the match, just the score.
  16. That guy got not only Hingis but Vaidisova and Petra Kvitova as well! How????! Martina Hingis dated extensively. Tennis players, golfers, soccer players. Didn't she once have a fiance or someone accuse her of being a serial cheater? Before she came back to tennis, like for the second time, there was some ugly situation that happened between her and some guy.
  17. I'm curious to hear about the dirty dirty that happened between Norman and Hingis when they dated. I know Martina dated a lot of guys but how could she justify going from Norman to Radek Stepanek?! She's not with either now but still...I don't know how someone makes that leap.
  18. Must be that Gluten Free lifestyle that keeps him going and going, right? He also uses one of those oxygen pods, which like meldonium used to be, not against doping rules...yet. I do have to admit, although Andy Murray seems like he'd be interesting off court (his dry sense of humor), I do not find him particularly interesting to watch, at all. Someone compared Murray's matches vs. Nolé like watching Charlie Brown and Lucy with that football. Even if Murray gets a set, you know what the ultimate result will be. Every damn time. I know it's frustrating when you faves disappoint (believe me, I know!) but try not to completely shut the door on them unless it's sparing your blood pressure, then I'd kick them to the curb (lol). The interesting thing about the game today is that players and their games are maturing later and thankfully most player into later age. Remember when Agassi's late career surge was considered unusual? Now it's considered mid, not late career because playing into the mid-30s is the norm these days. I mean, would I loved it if Monfils made good on all that talent earlier in his career? Of course, but maybe because he's now starting to make good on all that talent and potential, maybe when others are burned out years from now, he could still be going at peak levels (or near peak levels). Stan's not one of my faves but I take heart from his example because he won his first major at, what, 30? Coincidentally, Stan's coach Magnus Norman used to be an instructor/coach at the Good To Great Academy in Sweden, the same place where Monfils coaches are based, so I find that encouraging. By the way, I got to hear a podcast interview with the legendary Gail Falkenburg (Taylor Townsend's opponent in the Challenger last week) and seriously, she sounds like a really nice, very positive-minded lady. As long as she's enjoying being out there and competing, I wouldn't want to be the one out there trying to tell her to quit! Taylor, on the other hand, is the one that worries me. Hopefully, like Lindsey Davenport, she'll come around to do what it takes to put herself in a truly winning position. Justin Gimelstob predicted that John Isner will make the 2nd week at the French Open based on...how many clay court matches has he played so far?
  19. I could have done without their disparaging of the President though. I read an article concerning Sander's visit to the Vatican and there was an interesting theory floating around: that he may be planning to set up his own foundation, sort of his version of a Clinton Global Initiative, where Sanders could focus solely on issues concerning income inequality post election.
  20. What can you say? TV One is not an OTA channel, it's on cable, people are paying for their presence on the channel grid, so the people in charge of TV One should be making more of an effort to have an organized broadcast and online presence. No way should Bounce TV, which is OTA, be more organized than TV One yet somehow they are! TV One has two Twitter feeds a Facebook and You Tube page, yet it's virtually impossible to get an organized schedule for upcoming episodes. And no way to access previously aired episodes that are no longer airing.
  21. Lucky you, although you have to endure Gimelstob, which is unfortunate. Peter Bodo is a glass is barely half-full tennis journalist. He's been around for ages. Sometimes he can be insightful but more often he's dour and quick to accentuate the negative aspects and potential failures in a player at every turn. At least we didn't have to endure a six hour match between Rafa and Nolé! I too was hoping Monfils would win but I'm hoping the progress he's made will encourage him to have more self-belief and maybe build a bit more endurance (Coca Cola is not a good stamina builder ). It was fascinating to see the match beteween Monfils and Tsonga. Someone told me that Tsonga is used to being the Alpha French male and Monfils upended this and Tsonga did not look okay with it but they look quite close otherwise. Maybe if the U.S. Fed Cup team continues to do well, it may build confidence for them in other areas. The Czech women seem to have made a lot of progress individually since their team's couple of wins over the past few years. Sam Stosur, though, does not do well when she plays in Australia, that I know for certain. It will be interesting to see how Thiem pans out during this clay court season. There will be many opportunities to see how he performs because there are so many damn clay court tournaments! Speaking of the dreaded Big 4, or whatever, Becker is mad at Murray because apparently in an interview, Murray hinted at having had suspicions of certain players (he wouldn't name names) who can play at high levels for hours without ever appearing to get tired. Someone brought up an old article where Becker threw accusations about Thomas Muster possibly doping. Guess what? Muster's old trainer now works for Djokovic! Boris should keep quiet, he sounds ultra defensive.
  22. That was a thrilling final! They don't call Rafa the King of Clay for nothing! He was hungry and determined, especially since no Nolé! Peter Bodo, per usual, is dampening Rafa fans' exuberance by cautioning against being too optimistic about this win. Typical Bodo. I was glad to hear Monfils said he wants much more for himself and I hope for a big win for him, preferably at his home Slam tournament. He kind of ran out of gas in that final set but up until the final, he hadn't lost a set. I just realized that in every tournament he's entered this year, he's gotten to at last the Quarters or better. He looks to finally be making good on all that talent, I hope he keeps it up! I saw the U.S. Fed Cup team beat Australia this weekend, without the Williams Sisters or Sloane Stephens (although both Venus and Sloane played in the last tie in Hawaii and won their matches). I was expecting Madison to win her match (although it's never a given) but I was especially impressed with how Christina McHale and Coco Vandeweghe both stepped up! I figure McHale should have better results on clay due to her style of play (it seems she should have success on clay) but the last time I saw Coco in a singles match on clay in Fed Cup, she was such a mess! She had redeemed herself in doubles with Taylor Townsend last year after that singles debacle but when I saw her last night, I saw such improvement- I think her doubles with Bethanie has really helped her singles play! ESPN3 sucks! It looks like they've all but given up on the European red clay tournaments. They didn't show Monte Carlo this year (is it because no U.S. men were entered?), it looks like they're only showing two rounds of Stuttgart this year and I don't know if they'll even bother with Barcelona, Madrid or Rome. Tennis needs to see what the NBA and NFL do with their streaming because tennis is so scattershot and most of the commentators are turrible!
  23. If it weren't so sad, it'd be funny...only the daytime drama genre thought it a good idea to hire writers and showrunners who had contempt for the soap genre, didn't care for women and couldn't abide by any sliver of loyalty to their core audience. I get the chase for new/younger viewers for continuity for the show but why dump the audience that got you to the height of your popularity in the first place? The machinations of the Daytime Drama industry never made much sense to me. Any success the industry had seemed to be in spite of itself.
  24. @Paul Raven, that is cute! Chris Hughes the data wonk (lol). If Y&R Nikki and Victor were more likeable I could've imagined CBS doing an update ad like this online. Pretty impressive, the sheer volume of daytime dramas on television back then (with what only 3 major networks?! Did ABC had soaps at this time?). Surely a bygone era!
  25. I don't remember ever reading that before, so thanks for bring it over. I don't remember what DM's last episode was, but my best guess is it would have aired in June or possibly later. IIRC, soaps then used to be about three months ahead, tape-wise. Yeah, the first couple of times MB did the song were fine. It was the next fifty that wore out the welcome. *sigh* Couple theme songs. Those were the days. **suudddd----eeennnlllyyyyyy, life has new meannn-innng to mmmeeeeee*** I will never stop loving that song!! Billy Ocean did some performances in the U.S last summer and he still sounds fantastic. Thanks everybody for addressing that question.
