He's said as much. Just after his win over Novak, he mentioned to a reporter that he still struggles to "get up" for the regular tour matches that don't have the big names. Also, he hasn't had a coach for well over a year now. I mentioned early about Sam Querrey's capabilities so, even though, of all the people I would've put in the final, Sam wouldn't have been at the top of that list, I know that he has the ability to eke out big wins, especially if his more talented opponent is flat. I didn't even bother with Nadal and Cilic and I fell asleep during the Kyrgios and Querrey match. I mentioned like, last year that 90% of Sam's matches put me to sleep, no matter who he plays. His matches against Isner have been the worst though.

The Trump administration appears to be floating the idea of a military response to North Korea. I wonder how many in the military feel about this? Perhaps the more money means a lot more 'boots on the ground' type of action in return.

I got caught up watching videos on You Tube. I tried watching the match for a few minutes, and was not entertained. Tuned in again 20 minutes or so later, still not amused. Back to You Tube. Oh well.- The Tennis Thread
Most of the news concerning the women is off court since I don't know anyone who can actually see a women's match right now...well, legally anyway.- The Politics Thread

Sorry but I disagree with the assessment of Kyrgios being overrated. If anything, he doesn't know what he wants. If he were to train at the level that the other guys in the Top 15 trains, he'd be getting better results far more consistently. He hasn't even had a coach for a year now. He's beaten Roger, Rafa and now Novak. He'd have beaten Murray by now, if he didn't think that Murray hung the moon. Jerzy Janowicz was overrated when he was cast as tennis' next giant killer (having only beaten one of the big four). I don't know whether Nick will ever fully realize his talent but I don't put Nick in that category with the likes of Rosol or Janowicz.- The Tennis Thread
Nick is sort of like DelPo in the way that neither fear playing the top guys (the one exception for Nick is Andy Murray, which he seems to have a bromance with but fumbles when he plays). I also think the major difference between DelPo and Kyrgios is that Nick has expressed a hatred of tennis, which I don't think is just hyperbole- I believe him. Andre Agassi, in his memoir expressed the same hatred of tennis. Interestingly enough Andre spoke about Nick's talent and potential to win majors in the future but also cautioned that only Nick could make the decision to train effectively enough to make that happen, no one else could convince him. Only Nick could decide that he wanted it and would go after it. Agassi's interview was very interesting. He seemed to sympathize with Nick, in a way yet he also said, coaching him would probably be a waste of time unless Nick decided he wanted to put the effective training in.- The Politics Thread
So according to the WSJ.com, Sessions used campaign funds to pay expenses for the Cleveland trip, in which he met the Russian envoy, which I'm pretty sure never came up during the course of vetting or Senate confirmation hearing for AG. These people are just the worst! EDIT. Ha @Vee Jinx, you owe me a Coke!- The Tennis Thread
Thiem often plays too much, LOL. Last year he had this same issue. I missed the match completely so I can't honestly speak to what happened but Sam seems capable of pulling off the occasional win, especially if the better player is not playing consistently during the match. Sometimes it's also matchups in tennis. Have Thiem and Querrey played before? What's their head-to-head? Many of the top players in Dubai are dropping like flies too! Not sure what's happening this week.- The Politics Thread

I saw some of the match but didn't see the 3rd set at all. Brad Gilbert commented that he believes DelPo's match against Tiafoe the previous night must've taken some energy away from him.- The Politics Thread
During the Obama administration, the FCC approved a regulation that would make telecommunications companies notify and request permission from consumers when they wanted to sell consumers' information to a 3rd party- consumers would have the ability to accept or decline and if consumers accept, the company would have to compensate consumers for the use of their information. Now with the new, Trump-approved FCC Cchief, he is now looking to delay implementation of that regulation, a signal to many that the new FCC chief intends to reverse the regulation. Steve Bassett may have very well rocked that twist and I think it could've been interesting, since Seth was often a blend of toughness and sensitivity but network executives seemed so youth obsessed, it might have been a hard sell to pitch the coming out of a middle aged man. Quite honestly, I think that most likely, the character had to be a legacy character and had to be a relatively young one for CBS to invest. And similar to your thoughts @DRW50, I think that Marland certainly based many aspects of Seth's story off his personal biography but he probably also enjoy writing someone similar but not exactly identical to his own personality. For instance, Marland never gave the impression that he had such a bad temper or hulk-like physical strength that he could kill someone with his bare hands and barely recognize that he was doing it. I remember Seth confiding in Frannie about his temper and how he almost killed the drunk driver that hit and killed his friend Lois, and it was seemingly with his bare hands as he apparently had his hands around the man's neck.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
It's kind of easy for us to judge a 1980s version of a show by today's standards though. Perhaps had Marland lived on, by the late 90s/early 00s maybe we may have seen a Seth coming out story but I have a feeling that Marland was working within the restraints that had been in place for him in daytime TV on CBS. To me, although CBS had some of the best written daytime dramas, CBS always struck me as quite conservative and I am guessing that quite a few of their viewers were conservative as well. I wasn't watching the last year or so of the show but I went back to watch the last episode online several months later and was struck by some of the negative comments practically blaming Luke and Noah's relationship for driving some viewers away and it reminded me of how conservative some daytime viewers truly are.- The Tennis Thread
Looks like Donald Young got Klobbered by Kyrgios in that 1st set. Hopefully he can take the 2nd set, so they can at least have a 3rd set tussle. I enjoy watching Nick's game but I don't want to see Donald Young get blown off the court.- The Politics Thread
Military Officers Aren’t Happy With Trump’s Tribute To A Fallen Navy SEAL Interesting, the difference in the narrative that the media is pushing versus how military responded to those optics and what Trump said. Appeared exploitative and opportunistic from the clip that I saw this morning.- The Tennis Thread
Since he came back last year, he's been tentative with that backhand, which still lacks the power it used to have (Tiafoe was able to exploit that a few times and race on into the net). When he first returned last year at Delray Beach, he seemed to be a bit scared that the wrist would flare up again and there were some 'tender' moments after playing back to back matches but as the season progressed and he iced and did post match recovery protocol, he seemed to gain confidence and the backhand became a bit more sure but I definitely agree that it's a still a trust issue. It reminded me of Serena for a couple of seasons with her knee after her surgery. There was a time when she favored it and for awhile you could tell it would ache a little toward the end of a lengthy match. Now, we hardly remember she had surgery, or maybe these days, Serena doesn't make it as obvious if the knee still bothers her. - The Tennis Thread
