  1. It's not just the media though. There are other people who haven't even read the FAQs of the Green New Deal that have been making salty comments. On the other side, there are those who are ready to attack Nancy Pelosi for using the words "green dream" and "whatever" when mentioning that she hadn't yet had a chance to read the blueprint proposal. It's just odd because AOC did agree with Pelosi that it is indeed a "green dream" and took no offense at Pelosi's remarks. Just as Pelosi took no offense at AOC showing up outside her office to try to push the green agenda. It seems that both women aim to do their jobs, regardless of how they're being cast by various narraties, which have more than a whiff of sexism, imo.
  2. Some of the videos are oddly labeled, without dates, although this one wasn't one of them. I think I watched that episode about a year and a half or so ago because I most remember that odd 1980s gothic style bridesmaid dress that Julianne Moore as Sabrina was forced to model.
  3. The first thing that I thought of when reading that Thai news is that this may pave the way for the Shinawatras to return from exile. I cannot imagine that not happening in the near future. You're right @Faulkner and @JaneAusten this is big news. Thai politics has been characterized by one big upheaval after another for nearly twenty years, so I have to say, it's big news but it doesn't come as that much of a surprise, tbh. It's especially interesting how many people are giving salt to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Markey's Green New Deal blueprint without acknowledging that the Republicans generally go big with their proposals-- look at the enormous, deficit-busting tax "reform" that they slid through. At least the Green New Deal proposal is meant to benefit people across economic spectrum, not just the wealthy. The proposal is pie in the sky, yes, but it is a blueprint, subject to amendment.
  4. AsTheWorldStillTurns already has that episode from September 8, 1987. It's been uploaded to YouTube since 2016. I don't think that Lisa was so polite with Lucinda Walsh or John Dixon and she was fairly combative during the times she interacted with James Stenbeck, which, given James' notorious reputation, seemed a little risky on Lisa's part. I'm watching an episode from January 1990 and something I can really appreciate is that the relationship between Lily and Lucinda is much more complex. In a conversation with Lucinda, Lily very bluntly tells Lucinda that she plans to ruthlessly poach Kirk Anderson away from Walsh Industries, even if she has to use Iva to lure Kirk away. The best part is when Heather Rattray's Lily, in a voice dripping with honey, tells Lucinda "It's just business", which is phrase that Lucinda often used to defend even her most cut-throat actions. The look on Lucinda's face is priceless. The scene is great, it's like a game of verbal chess between Lily and Lucinda.
  5. America needs a serious history lesson on what actually constitutes blackface. Unfortunately, the education system has clearly failed many people. I can't believe there are people who don't know that it takes cork or shoe polish as well as people exaggerating features-- what they believe a black person looks like, of course to a caricature level. There are essays and documentaries that detail exactly what constitutes blackface and why many see it as offensive. I see several people, blogs, media outlets that are supposedly knowledgeable get the most basic facts completely wrong. In 2019. It's sad to witness.
  6. Well, when people suggest that the state motto change to "Virginia is for lovers...of blackface", you know you've got a problem. I admit, I did giggle at this but the state is...eesh.
  7. Apparently, it's not just Virginia that's screwed.
  8. Virginia is screwed.
  9. Krajinovic can actually be a tricky player, not ideal for someone who has spent a long period out of competition and my lack confidence. Goffin always struck me as a player who needed to play a good number of matches to build on. I never got the sense that he was one of those players who could jump right in and start winning consecutive matches right away after time off. It may take him awhile.
  10. The price the public pays for letting money determine the caliber of most of our elected officials. The way to preserve my mental health at this point is probably to ignore Florida, Virginia and whomever else wants to "confess" to their racist fantasies because this is all too much.
  11. Is anyone surprised by this?
  12. Honestly, there needs to be a national one at this point. I just saw there's another Florida politician who is talking about his stint donning blackface. Six days into Black History Month and this is all that we can talk about. Not the achievements of historical figures from the African American community but blackface-wearing politicians and actors, unprompted confessing their racist revenge fantasies, that nobody wanted to hear. It all feels very disrespectful and self-centered.
  13. What if Gov. Northam had simply said something like this, instead of coming up with a bunch of stupid double talk?
  14. Do people not know that this is the end of empire for the U.S.? The sun eventually set on the British empire. It was bound to happen sometime.
  15. Where does he find these people??! Good Lord! Is there a political era as ridiculous as the one in which we are living in now?
  16. And @ChitHappens was just referencing Kvitova in a post earlier. Kvitova testifies at trial of suspect in knife attack
  17. Literally no one asked Liam Neeson about this and at a press junket to promote a movie just seemed like a strange arena to be making this confession. Neeson is Roman Catholic...he couldn't find a good priest to make a confession? The U.S. desperately needs some type of Truth & Reconciliation forum, the way South Africa did post-apartheid. South Africa certainly has its problems still, mostly rampant and unchecked corruption and income inequality but without the TRC, there's a good argument that society in South African would be paralyzed (and a lot more violent) had one never taken place. These issues deserve open discussion, and there are teachable moments to be had, I agree. I just don't know if a press junket for a movie premiere is the arena in which to do it.
  18. Another day, another set of subpoenas for the Trump cabal.
  19. John Edwards?? Ugh, these messy men in politics... speaking of messy men in politics...pst, *Bernie loves to undermine women*.
  20. Foreign policy in this country is truly f*cked.
  21. My God, that is completely unaccounted for blocks of time! For all we know, he could've been doing sex chats with Putin!
  22. What the hell is "Executive Time"??? And am I reading this correctly, 77 hours spent in policy meetings since the election???
  23. And yet, I'm completely indifferent to his presence.
  24. Good Lord NYT, that's embarrassingly late!
  25. Well, it's not like Fairfax hasn't been left out there alone to fight his own battles before. I suspect, he wouldn't expect much help from anyone based on what he experienced recently.
