  1. Maybe it could have run longer. Whether it should have though...that is a different question. Personally I felt that it had run too long. That being said, I'm still slightly peeved that we never got a resolution to the question whether Oscar Blaketon, one of two original characters remaining at the end, had survived being impaled on a pitch-fork in the last episode. And yes, the show never left the 1960s, even though it stretched believablility beyond the ridiculous.
  2. This show is a textbook example of a show that ran waaay too long (372 episodes, 1992-2010). The first years were fantastic, but then, after the death of leading lady Kate (Niamh Cusack) the show began a slow but relentless decline. The last few years it had deteriorated into almost a caricature of itself. All the grittiness and realism of the first years were gone. But I will always treasure those first years as some of the best on television.
  3. For women this has been going on forever though.....
  4. I'm not familiar with most of these, but this response makes me think that it's the same as it would be for me if Emmerdale was entirely populated by Dingles.
  5. Marcelo Ríos with a big interview for 'La Tercera'. "Federer acts like a woman on court, doesn't even spit". That's not acting like a woman, Marcelo! That's called having manners!
  6. ^^ Well, if it's only that we might as well ask the pope to make him a saint right now.....
  7. Kim did some heinous things too, like trying to trample Nick with her horse, watching Frank die before her eyes and taunting Kathy at Dave's funeral. But, like you said, she was much more complex than that. I think it's telling that the last thing we heard about her (at least I think it was the last) was when she sent flowers to Seth's funeral. They had a very touching relationship, and little things like that go a long way towards humanizing even the most despicable characters. (Unless it's a Dingle, then all bets are off..... )
  8. It's amazing that, at 76, Babs still sounds better than most. Long live the Queen!
  9. It's funny how Kim is now being remembered only as the superbitch of Emmerdale, when she wasn't a bitch for more than half her run.... And I've said this before, and I'll say it again with upcomin events in mind... I think a big part of Kim's status as the iconic bitch is due to her fantastic exit. She left undefeated and in triumph. I really, really hope that they take real care not to ruin that with her return. But I'm afraid that the mere fact that she is returning is going to taint her character. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath......
  10. I just don't want to seem like I'm not taking Trump and his croonies seriously. I'm not being affected as much by his politics as those of you living under his rule are, and I don't want to trivialize what he is doing and how it is affecting all of you.
  11. But that would have deprived us of so much merriment.... Look, I don't mean to be flippant about this. I don't have to live in a country ruled by him, and I wish to God he had never been elected. But at the same time it's hard not to be both completely shocked about how totally ignorant and stupid he makes himself look (without even realizing it) and at the same time be unable to stop laughing at his outrageous statements. I just pray that this nightmare is over soon and he is reduced to nothing but a bad memory. I just hope that he won't have made irreparable damage by then.
  12. Trump says a top expert on China, Michael Pillsbury, went on a "good show" he won't name - it was Tucker Carlson's - and said China has total respect for "Donald Trump's very, very large brain." Trump denies that the UN was actually laughing at him yesterday, instead claims "they were laughing with me." I'm speechless.......
  13. Dame Judi, I'm so disappointed in you! https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-45649671
  14. I guess justice do prevail sometimes.
  15. Wow, I cannot believe Trump actually had the nerve to say something like that in such a forumas the U.N. I know that his supporters inside the U.S believe everything he says, but surely he can't be so deluded to think that the rest of the world does that? I've never met or spoken to a single person here who has any respect at all for him or his presidency. He's a laughing-stock here, nothing more and nothing less.
