It doesn't get enough attention, period. I absolutely love Upstairs Downstairs. It's my alltime favourite tv-show. From the synopses posted the plot is quite different, but at least one episode, "The Debut" (one of the un-aired ones) seems at least somewhat inspired by the season one episode "The Path of Duty" from UD: https://www.updown.org.uk/epguide/s1.htm#pod

Purely in terms of success Taylor can indeed be counted among the very best, but, and this is only my personal opinion, to be ranked in the highest echelon you have to have made a bigger impact in terms of, for lack of a better expression, breaking new ground. I'm not saying she hasn't had an impressive career. Her results speak for themselves. To reach the sales figures she does nowadays is remarkable. But take the Beatles for instance. When they burst onto the scene they completely altered the music scene. There's a pre-Beatles and a post-Beatles era. Madonna did something similar. She pushed the boundaries and paved the way for other artists. Being a juggernaut in terms of record or ticket sales is not enough for me to place someone in the highest category. You don't agree and that's fine. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

^^ With all due respect for Taylor's achievements, which are impressive, I would hesitate to put her in the same league as Elvis, Beatles, Madonna etc. They were trailblazers and changed the course of music history. That is something I don't think you can say about Taylor Swift, at least not yet. She's done amazing things, and has acquired a large and loyal fanbase, but she's not broken any new ground.

I think I would characterize Soap and Good & Evil more as sitcoms than as soaps.

It's so tiring, isn't it?

Sure, it might sound good on paper, but it's just more of the doom and gloom that dominates the show now, and it's exhausting to watch, and frankly not fun either. And, like you, I have zero confidence in the show to do this kind of story justice. Their track record speaks for itself. It's extremely plot-driven and just jumps from plot point A to plot point B without any kind of build-up or, more often than not, any kind of satisfactory climax or longterm repercussions. And does anyone believe that they would give Eric enough screentime to give a story like this the emotional punch it deserves? Of course not! His last name isn't Dingle! I never thought I'd say this but I'm starting to feel that it's time to put this show out of it's misery. The Emmerdale I knew and loved is dead and buried anyway.....

I'm a little surprised that Ridge Forrester hasn't been mentioned as an example from B&B. The whole show more or less revolved around him and his lovelife for years and years.

Well, this "murder mystery" is another spectacular failure for this show. All this hype, a whole week of Dingles (🤢) with flashbacks and whatever, and it turns out none of them actually did the deed. It was Kim's horse who killed Craig. And what's their next brilliant idea you ask? Well, the idiots who run this show thought it was a good idea to give Eric, the longest-serving character, Parkinson's disease. As if the show isn't bleak and depressing enough. Oh, my poor Emmerdale. What have they done to you....

Could they actually kill off Eric? All this sure points in that direction. But I guess we'll have to wait and see....

We turned our clocks back this past weekend. There's been discussion about stopping this back and forth for years but as yet no definite decision has been made.
