DAYS is desperate to find a new Stefano DiMera.  And I mean DESPERATE.

I didn't realize they were so dependent on him to drive story.

I would have just pulled something from The Godfather, to be honest, and have a very SLOW fall into decent. I kinda feel that Chad would have worked like that. Someone who could want to legitimize the family but winds up getting sucked into the corruption.

    or

I would have started out with a new character who is a bit neurotic at first, create a beef between that person and someone else who who is core, and just slowly build outward. Test the chemistry and allow that to shape the writing.

    or

I would just move on and accept that, well, a NEW Stefano isn't worth it.

You know, the original setup was a complete knock-off of Tennessee Williams's play from the 1950s, "Cat On a Hot Tin Roof".  Jock & Miss Ellie were mirror images of Big Daddy and Big Mama; JR and Sue Ellen were Gooper & Mae; Bobby and Pam represented Brick & Maggie of course; and Lucy was the no-neck monster.

    I

I thought it was in reverse?

  3. The bible for the show is interesting as the theme is basically that true fulfillment  is something you need to work very hard for and not something that can be 'quick'. With Tom and Alice being the characters who understand that and help guide the characters to that idea. It's also basically stated that the sands of the hour glass are running out and we shouldn't live for tomorrow or for yesterday and seize the moment.

I really don't see that happening anywhere to be honest. When was the last time that was even true for the show? I see it from watching the mid-80s stuff with the three prisms storyline. I can see it during the period Carly was berried alive. Sammy popping Marlena into the sanitarium essentially reinforces it as well.

  4. I recently read parts of the "Rags" bible and, please, nobody hound over it.

    I'm curious if this happened:

So, in it, Stephanie is sexually frustrated and her daughter, Kristen, is frigid. Kristen starts seeing a man who wants to be with her sexually. They are at the pool and she refuses his advances and then runs to her room and sobs.

Stephanie, who is sex starved, was watching and offers to be used by him when he is needing to, well, have sex with Kristen -- she encourages the relationship between the two SO she can be with this guy.

I do know Stephen wasn't on the show in the beginning but he is critical to the  initial story-line.

Bell originally wanted Ridge/Caroline for the first 3 weeks or so and then write her (and the entire family) out after the wedding is called out. The Logan's were very prominent and Stephen/Eric was going to have a Rich Dad/Poor Dad feel. Stephen wasn't a deadbeat but he was a man who, though reeking with ambition, had many failed businesses. Beth's catering service she worked for, though, was the bread and butter of the family (so to speak).  However, Bill Bell makes it VERY clear that Stephanie IS NOT worthy of Eric and Stephen IS NOT worthy of Beth and for Eric/Beth to be end game.

Brooke is called Jessica. Forrester, the last name, is Chandler. Beth's mom was supposed to be on and serve as a Nancy Hughes of sorts. He GREATLY emphasized on needing a LOT of senior-citizen story lines. And Forrester Creations is called Ingenue Designs.

I'm sure I know the answer to this and I feel like an idiot for asking. Was there some mentioning on the show of Thorn being gay? It's stated that other characters think he is as he showed very little, if any, interest in women. And that a rumor was going to start in which everyone feels it's fact.

No LOL but i see your point (Ava Gardner or Jane Seymour?) I meant Lady Ashley Mitchell from Dynasty played by an Uninspired Ali MacGraw

oh good, because i can't afford buying the series and havin it shipped across the atlantic right now

Neither. They can't cast that book right (I assume you read it, right) or write it correctly. Hemingway was similar to Bill Bell in that sexuality played a critical role. They'd need to cast someone who was an absolutely KNOCKOUT like Brenda Epperson circa 1988 or Nina Arvesen from around that time as well.

Binge watching it (saw the whole first season since saturday) i admit That while she served Her original purpose fine Katherine Ross as Frankie was really the Lady Ashley of this, A rather competent actress giving such a wooden uninspired performance, it's ok in the beginning but urgh it only gets worse through the season, i initially symphatized with her but she soon was over, no wonder Stephanie as Sable was the most Memorable part of this show, also Stanwyck was right to leave the show Connie's Storylines were rather boring and uninspired i Loved Her Rivalry with Sable and her "Momma Bear" moments but the rest was plain silly, couldn't buy her romance with the cowboy

Lady Ashley like Sun Also Rises?

    (Which I can't picture)

Some of them were re-uploaded. All the way up to Marlena's rape, I think.

    Thanks for posting!

This was so interesting to read.

Thanks for the correction about the writers.  Yeah, I have no problem with Marlena forgiving Sam eventually.  It was just very quick and Sam had very little repercussions besides a trip to the sanitarium for awhile.   Sam was living her best life as an actress in Hollywood like a year later?   Who ended up giving Sam the kidney?  I can't remember for the life of me.

Oh, Marlena is very forgiving.  It was just fast.  I have no problem redeeming Sam eventually and her gaining everyone's forgiveness, but Sam didn't really work that hard at it.

Anyway, really cool stuff you have with that bible.  That's so interesting about Julie.

You are both welcome. khan has me on ignore so can either of you tag him so he can read my post? I think he'd be interested in the images of the bible I posted.

  8. I feel it was a good message for DAYS to have Marlena forgive Sam. After all, life is too short to hold grudges and I feel that resonated with the show's central theme. Further, it led to Sam's redemption. I think a lot of people were encouraged to forgive after that.

Also, the way Marlena's mind evolved during her medical training permitted a sense of empathy AND ability to separate Sam the patient in need of help and Sam her sister. I'm sure the memory of how Sam was before, assuming they got along, helped thr forgiveness.

That's also a good at to stigmatized the field -- having Marlena forgive her.

I have the bible for the show and the original idea for Julie is a trip. Irna was going to have her get preggers to get her parents attention. They were going to try to convince Tom to recommend an Abortionist and then he was going to rip them a new one for making Julie to have to go to great leangts.

Also, she was going to have a minister's son take the blame so she could live with him and his family so their Christian ways would show her the light and cure her.

Whether it was a deliberate choice or not, I appreciated the consistency that Abby was always beholden to her role as a mother.  Unlike JR, who used John Ross as a tool to manipulate Sue Ellen, Abby had to deal with issues like custody and Olivia's drug habit throughout her entire run on the series.  The bottle episode with Olivia is iconic and well earned given both character's history.

It gave context to her motives and made her a more complex villain than guys like Chip, Joshua, or Paul Galveston.  Which is why the introduction of Wolfbridge and other consortium groups never seemed like a good fit for the drama.  The writers who introduced those elements sought to expand the Knots universe in ways that could only alienate long term viewers.

That being said, I think Linda was a excellent proto-Abby candidate and it was unfortunate that she exited so suddenly and without much fan fair.

John Ross wasn't old enough to be in meaty stories.

The Wolfbridge story was iconic. It didn't alienate viewers. In fact, it quite successfully expanded that KL universe.

    Proto means prototype.

That's a good guess, I believe the writers think they're being clever by doing stuff like that. Bill bell did that too!

    That's true.

Michael makes me so hot tbh. Him and Eric! I would have loved to power verse for them while adding Don Diamont (circa 1987) to have it so I'm also spit roasted at the same time.

  11. They are really dragging out Karen's escape. That said, I am enjoying it quite a bit. I love first he sets the place on fire, she escapes, but then she signals down a driver and it turns out to be her kidnapper, and then she runs away from him, and then he crashes his car, and then he manages to get his car in reverse and chases her again! I love this!
