  1. They'd be foolish to leave their positions to join The View. The View has a habit of turning likeable people into unlikeable ones and I like Robin and Diane so don't want them around this filth.

    You have a good point.

  2. I respect everything she endured, and achieved. There's no doubt she opened the door for female journalists and her accomplishments are huge. However, there's some very shady [!@#$%^&*] in her past and in the past couple years she has just become rude and unbearable.

Ok, so like what kind of shady stuff?

  3. Yes, she had chemistry with Bill Timoney as well. I was just afraid to name him since it's well known around these parts that Alfred Vanderpoole happens to be my all-time favorite AMC character. smile.png

I never heard of him until now, actually.

  4. Bill Bell and Ed Scott were running the show at that point.....

But I agree it's nice that they kept the 70's cues well into the 90's and early 00's for the most part. I wonder exactly when they stopped using them......It had to be at least 2003 or 2004 right?

If I can give credit for one thing MAB did right was pulling out the classic cues every now and then.....of course the one thing missing was the amazing stories we could've had....

    I was being sarcastic LOL

  5. Wow!! Thanks for sharing those clippings. These days, who would write a headline proclaiming someone "bites the hand that feeds them" and not worry about being sued for libel?

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at AW and OLTL when JC and GR were on. They were before my time, but my mother remembers them, even though she worked full-time in those pre-VCR days. (She was a home health care nurse who would sometimes watch whichever soap was on at her patient's house as she worked.) All I've seen of their soap work is the few scant clips I've found on YT.

GR sure bore a strong physical resemblance to a later soap actor, Dane Witherspoon of Santa Barbara and Capitol fame. So ironic (and sad) that they passed within months of each other. They could've easily passed for father/son or even brothers (albeit with a large age difference - I've seen GR's birth year listed as both 1939 and 1940, and DW's as 1957) and been cast together in some project had circumstances been kinder.

I know that both GR and JC were on a talk show (either Mike Douglas or Merv Griffin) where they talked about the whole AW controversy. I sure wish it was available and posted online because I'd love to see it. Was it just a matter of money, not being the main storyline on the show anymore (with the emergence of Rachel, Mac and Iris), or a combination?

I would like to know as well. Did you post this in the AW thread?

  6. I had totally forgotten about Baz until reading about him on another message board. Here's some typically dreadful RC dialogue:

Definitely some of Baz's mannerisms and characteristics found their way into GH's equally terrible Felix. (For instance, Baz gloating about how great his music is reminds me of how Felix crowed over what a superb job he would do with the Nurses' Ball.)

I don't think I ever experienced an anxiety attack caused by bad soap writing before......

It did, however, give me an excuse to watch:

  7. I don't know whether this counts, but I do recall an episode in S3 where Abby befriends a wealthy, old man, played by Lew Ayres, by pretending to be his lost love (or something). She began the relationship in order to get her hands on his money, but the more she grew to know him, the more her inner sense of decency and her conscience got the better of her.

    Thanks!

  8. How funny speaking about the Abby Scale. Donna Mills just used almost the exact same lines on Today's General Hospital about the scale...her being a 10 of course. LOL The producers are big Knots Landing fans too.

Has she run into Monica yet?

The Three Sisters is all about Val's psyche. A great episode -- one of the top, ever, but very different and never again done.

Was there a episode dedicated to Abby?

  9. The show really gets going this season. How are you liking the show so far? Which of the characters/couples are you feeing the most?

I am really loving it!!! Sid's death is so REAL!!! I feel so sorry for Karen. I really understood/felt her son when he was in Sid's truck. I love Lillymae as well! When Val sat on the stairs after Lillymae told Garry "I am going to fatten you up!!" she made a facial expression like "What the hell did I agree too!!".

That is essentially how my mother felt was when my grandmother decided to move to this place 5 minutes away from our house (versus 30+ minutes away were she use to live) as my mother is the one who encouraged her. My grandmother can be very domineering and bossy so as soon as she started making demanding phone calls (after several warnings from my aunts/uncles/cousins) my mother was like "Why did I not LISTEN!". It seems as if Val is getting used to her mother at the same rate, if not at the same 'stages', as mother did when my grandmother moved by our house.

Also, Karen is a lot like my mother and Abby is a lot like my grandmother, which makes everything seem more surreal.

I do like how KL shows how the seemingly most simple experiences in life are some of the most abstract human experiences.

  10. I am at season 3 episode 7 of this show. Anyway, was David Jacob's a Daytime Soap fan? I think this show is my favorite of the big 4 primetime soaps because it seems like the most "Daytime". I wonder how David would have been if he created Daytime soaps or if they decided to do a KL spinoff for Daytime.

  11. WOAH. Really? I mean, I am certainly not arguing with you on ANY of your points, YRBB; and I can't say I blame those fans for feeling as they do. Even if you were a lukewarm fan, as I was, you could tell how network interference, among other factors, was responsible for the gradual shift in the show's overall tone. Still, I've always believed that fans look upon the Jeff Freilich era in particular as both a stabilizing time for the show AND a period of fast-paced, exciting drama that, yes, was different from FC's original concept, but also helped the show stand out from DALLAS, DYNASTY and KNOTS LANDING.

I just finished the episode were Richard and Angela first met (Damn I loved that scene! Down to Richard stabbing the chair) and I think this is getting good. Richard firing that guy was HEARTLESS!!

Anyway, so how drastic was the tone change? Could you compare the tone of the later seasons to other shows?
