    • Pamela Sue Martin - was considered as a replacement for Victoria Principal on Dallas during some tense contract talks one season

God the ratings would have been nuts if that happened. Could anyone imagine how the shows would turn out if Dallas did get Pamela Martin on the role and Dynasty casted Victoria on Dynasty as the new Fallon on the same season??

  1. I don't know if this has been discussed, but most of Radio Mirror and TV-Radio Mirror is available online thanks to the Library of Congress via archive.org. For daytime fans, the Daytime Diary section began in November 1949 and continued until July or August 1956. Starting in late 1953 (November, I think) the show starts covering television serials. They would appear to be about three months behind as "Valiant Lady," premiering in October 1953 is first mentioned in January 1954. Of course there are multiple articles of interest to fans about individual shows across the years. I found one detailing my favorite, "Right to Happiness," about a couple named Whelan who I had never heard about and learned that Carolyn once worked as a reporter. An article about "The Road of Life" detailed a rather juicy plotline in which Sybil Overton, an old school bitch goddess, plotted to pass off the child of her late husband on her maid, Pearl Snow, in order to land her man, Dr. Jim Brent. Of course, in order to do so, Sybil had to arrange a marriage between Pearl and a merchant marine, who fell in love with Pearl and threatened to destroy Sybil's detailed plans.

Can you send me the link for the Road of Life one?

  2. Agreed.

Allmc--I love the videos, however did you not tap the end credits? I would just like to see who was credited on the writing staff.

Fun article about a true AMC legend wink.pnghttp://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2011-09-22/the-daily-disney/os-disney-all-my-children-chef-20110922_1_disney-world-culinary-olympics-cbs-soap

Mother did not record the end credits to save room on the tapes. Thats how she crammed the 25th anniversary week, the oprah special, and carol burnett special in one tape. Well, she cut some of the commercials as well. I am still not sure what all she did to make it work!

  3. There's a full week of 1987 episodes on youtube (which I find fascinating--it seems rare to be able to find a full week of full episodes of any show from before the 90s to really get a feel for character balance, etc.) It's very good, but all the stories are extremely islanded from what I can tell.

I find it weird that there are more consecutive AMC episodes in general from the 80s than the 90s. Just wish there were more 70s.....

  4. Does anyone remember how Eric exited the show? Angie and Travis weren't in this particular episode. It was mostly Adam, Brooke, Erica, Eric, Jackson, Julie, Donna, Natalie, Jeremy, Skye, Nico, Emily Ann, David and Lanie. I think this was around the time Trask came in, also Trevor was on the show at this point, but the writers seem to be setting up a triangle with Skye, Jeremy and Natalie, at least judging by this episode, as well as something going on with Julie and Jackson, but she leaves not long after this.

Thanks. I will definitely be watching these soon. This seemed to be a very odd period for AMC, as they were trying to refocus.

Thanks for these. There is so little on YT from this period with David and Lainey, it was interesting to see them again. Ditto for Skye.

    Here is Episode 2!!

  5. Thanks for these. There is so little on YT from this period with David and Lainey, it was interesting to see them again. Ditto for Skye.

Thanks!! I don't remeber if Angie and Travis are on the episode I just posted. I know the episode I am working on they are!! Evidently Travis was injured somehow and Angie is helping him. This next episode will feature Tad/Dixie and the Chicken Suite!

  6. Thanks. I will definitely be watching these soon. This seemed to be a very odd period for AMC, as they were trying to refocus.

I am hoping I will have more soon!!

How were they trying to refocus? I don't know much about this Era.

  7. I always thought DS should have toned down the supernatural a little bit and amp it up during the summer. During the rest of the year they could focus good old fashion Gothic stories soaps love to tell with a few supernatural happenings. That would have been good for the writers to take a breather from the Supernatural so the summers would be a lot fresher.

  8. I am not sure why calling Myrtil "Mrs. Lum" would seem or sound strange.

Myrtil Lum was her name until her wedding to Nigel Fargate (Alexander Scourby).

Most people are not aware she was married. Most people think Myrtle was never married and her maiden name is Fargate.

  9. Come to think of it. My mom also has the week Tad proposes to Dixie in the Chicken Suite and Brooke is tending to Adams heart. Also during that week Erica introduces Eric Kane to everyone in PV meanwhile Natalie and Jermey seem to be wanting back to be with one another. I like all of the scenes with her and Trevor during that time!!

Mom also has the week Tad comes back and comes face to face with Dixie. It is funny yet sweet how Opal passed out. That tape also contains a Phil Donahue special.

Anyway, would anyone be interested in seeing those???

  10. An interesting take on AMC from the somewhat hard to find 1978 The Soap Opera Book. The author takes some of the usual soap press confusion on the show of the time (there feels a tad bit f resentment that it's not as serious as other soaps yet has a trendy young following and press) but it's not without praise:

All My Children is a light-hearted soap—perhaps the only light-hearted soap on the air. It may also be characterized as a home-and-familv soap, in the doctor-lawyer formula. The setting is the small town of Pine Valley. The major families are the Tylers (who founded the town) and the Martins.

All My Children was created and originally owned by Agnes Nixon, who also wrote or created Another World and One Life to Live. Today the show is owned by ABC; but Nixon retains creative control and her production company is listed as producer. As of January, 1977, All My Children is still in the half- hour format, but there are pressures to move to an hour, and this may well happen in the Spring of 1977.

In its home-and-family orientation, All My Children very much resembles traditional soaps.

But there are differences in tone. All My Children seldom succumbs to dark feelings of loneliness or instability (as does As the World Turns) or to sexual despair (as does Days of Our Lives). On All My Children, there is little serious evil. Bad characters like Phoebe, Erica, Mrs. Lum, or Benny Sago, tend to be fun, or funny. They do not ask much of us.

It is weird haring someone refer to Myrtle as "Mrs. Lum" and I find it shocking that she was at one time a villain. I would love to see some of that Era.

  11. I remember loving the show in 1995 (25th) but I was really young so my perception could be skewed. All the subsequent anniversaries not so much.

My mother has the entire week, the oprah special, and the carol burnett special all on one tape. I actually have it in my VCR right now lol!
