  1. My best memories of Carol are during the storyline where she had divorced Tom & married Jay Stallings. Tom married Natalie Bannon (played by Judith Chapman)but then Natalie had an affair with Jay & got pregnant with his child. I believe Carol & Jay ended up adopting the baby because Carol couldn't have children. I think she had divorced Jay by the time he was killed in the mine. Steve Andropolous worked in the mine with Jay, and he and Carol were married for a while and then divorced. Carol finally married a minister (and I think he was played by her real-life husband who was a minister) and left Oakdale. Carol was very sweet and wholesome, the quintessential soap good girl.
  2. I didn't know about Fran Brill being a puppeteer! Thanks for that tidbit. I wish I had taken notes all those years ago when I was watching the shows! I naively believed they would always be around and as entertaining as they were then. Looking forward to the other articles!
  3. Thanks, I would love it if you get the chance! I love anything Bill & Susan related. In their book, they say they have kind of morphed into Doug & Julie, or vice versa, lol! Of course, the term "supercouple" hadn't been invented when Doug & Julie were in their heyday but no doubt they were extremely popular. In addition to the Time magazine cover, they used to be featured in the movie & tv magazines with the movie & prime time stars, and appeared on many talk shows and game shows. They even encountered a Native-American tribe on their travels who were huge fans and adopted them into the tribe. The tribe had to watch the show using a generator but they loved Doug & Julie! I believe Days still airs in Australia but I think it about a year behind the U.S.
  4. Yes, you've brought back some memories. I hadn't thought of this show in a long time. I think I watched all the soaps to some extent during this time period. I wish I had paid more attention to some of them! I'm not sure how much time had gone by when Dave died but enough for me and my mother to get attached to him! Plus, he died suddenly of a heart attack, with no warning (and no spoilers back then!). His wife was very likable too. I'm not sure what it was exactly about Jennifer Harmon that put me off. She seemed kind of prissy to be a feminist for one thing, lol! Was Lynn Lowery the actress who played Larry's mistress? I remember thinking she was funny (not intentionally). Even the way she said Larry's name sounded funny to me. I enjoyed her though.
  5. My mother & I used to watch this show. I liked some things about it but I couldn't stand Jennifer Harmon's character, I found her completely unappealing. My favorites were Armand Assante, and the actors who played the Bachman couple. My mother and I cried like babies when Dave Bachman died, lol!
  6. Thanks so much for posting the Doug & Julie article! They are still my favorite soap couple, after all these years. Bill & Susan said they were allowed input into the wedding and used some of the same scriptures they used in their real wedding. Bill has said that 16 million viewers watched the wedding & an Australian tv channel actually did a satellite feed of the show so their viewers could see the episode at the same time as American viewers.
  7. There had been some speculation last year that Ciara's kidnapper was going to be Dougie back to retaliate against Hope but that apparently was just wishful thinking!
  8. I believe the last time Dougie's name was mentioned was around 1986/1987 when Doug returned to Salem without Julie. Dougie is mentioned in a scene between Doug & Hope. I saw the scene recently on youtube. It was several years before Doug learned that Dougie was his son, after Rebecca was killed (in a plane crash I believe). Hope & Dougie had been playmates when they were small, before they knew they were siblings. Rebecca & Johnny took Dougie away for awhile. I seem to recall that Hope missed her playmate & substituted her doll for a real baby in a carriage at a playground (and took the real baby home!).
