  1. Update from the Retro rep.  She also said she would be interviewing the following actors today for the behind-the-scenes material and promos:

Jada Rowland, Liz Hubbard, Kim Zimmer, Jennifer Houlton, Richard Niles, Anna Stuart, Marie Foster, Thor Fields, Count Stovall, Eileen Kearney, Brian McKeon and Patricia Hayling.

Thanks. I figured that was still the weekday time but wasn't sure if it still aired on the weekends. Are the weekend airings from earlier in the run (I seem to remember that they started those back in 1967 when the weekday episodes were in the early 70s).

The weekend episodes are from earlier seasons.  Not positive but I believe the Saturday episodes are a different year than the Sunday episodes.

Bill and Susan complained that Doug and Julie were written as the 'grouchy' parents opposed to Hope's romance to provide an obstacle and give Hope heroine status. They felt that their attitude to Hope was out of character. Also, in being reduced to being Hope's parents and not given any context of their own. When they were told that there were no plans to change their diminished roles they chose to leave.

The show also wanted to cut their guarantees in half and told them there would be no story for them.  I believe that Brian Frons, who was then VP of NBC daytime, was behind a lot of this, and then Maggie DePriest didn't want to write for them.

Where else has the retro rep posted? I'd like to read what she has to say. I don't understand why she's not approved but the woman who took over the board for weeks was allowed to go unchecked.

She’s on Daytime Royalty in The Doctors thread and answering questions.

  5. Apparently, the b&w episodes from the 60s (that Retro hasn't aired) will be available on the streaming, as well as new interviews with the cast and crew.  I know the Retro representative was trying to get contact information for Liz Hubbard.

I knew I was forgetting somebody -- Tommy Horton also was written off during the revamp. And it sounds like Amanda Howard was done for good as 1979 concluded (I forget, was she killed off?).

I think Amanda was written out with Greg in early 1979, and they moved to Chicago.  She came back to town alone a few months later and had an affair with Chris.  Then she learned she was pregnant (not knowing whether the father was Greg or Chris).  She had a miscarriage though and had to have a hysterectomy.  She decided to go back to Chicago with Greg.

    Sure!

I never tracked down a photo of him. Although that was years ago. Maybe Google has one of him now. But thanks for posting one of him! He did two episodes of "Days": 12/27/79 and 1/2/80. Per the Soap Digest recap, Mr. Pearson's daughter died and Samantha received her kidney. He won the guest Emmy for that.

Hey Jam, we posted at the exact same second!!

Haha—-great minds, eh?  Here’s a screencap of him with Deidre.  Marlena was also his therapist so she had a bit of a conflict of interest going.   At least one of those episodes has been floating around various places over the years.

    re Hugh McPhillips.

He won a guest actor Emmy for his Days role. What was Hugh Pearson's part in the story? How long was he on for?

He played the father of a young woman who was brain dead.  Marlena and others were trying to convince him to donate the daughter’s kidney to Marlena’s sister, Samantha (which he did).  I guess this was before live donors were used in transplants.
