Thanks for everyone posting these clips.

It gives us a glimpse into the look and feel of the show in those days.

Current shows need to look at this era for inspiration instead of trying to replicate the 80's and 90's without the budget to support it.

Interesting that Doug and Julie had children with other characters but not each other - their 'true loves'

Julie didn’t want a baby when they first got married.  They were finally talking about having one shortly before Maggie’s oven blew up on Julie.

  2. For what it's worth, the website is just a preview right now.  It's supposed to be fully functional on this Thursday (Feb. 27).  Hoping it will work better at that time.  I've been told that Retro is aware of the buffering issue.

So true. Character driven story. If nothing else, I feel that is what is really missing from soaps today. I think that is why the story could be simple, because the complexity was in the characters.

Side note: I swear that clip was longer when it was previously uploaded. Doug and Julie return from dinner and she talks about a waiter or maitre'd or something at dinner, maybe something to do with a slightly embarrassing moment she had. It was a cute moment between them before she puts on the song.

Yes, it was longer.  They had been to Sergio's (which later became the original Doug's Place) and he had sung "The Look of Love," to her there for the first time.  There was a brief glimpse of the restaurant scene in the montage shown for Bill's anniversary.

Reading through DAYS early history (thanks to the brilliant @JAS0N47 , of course), and in my reading of the monthly summaries, I'm increasingly finding Dr. Greg Peters to be a sanctimonious ass and it's getting on my nerves. Having never seen him on the show in any episodes that have popped up online, I'm curious to know what others' opinions of his character were, watching day-to-day.

They also glaze over a (to me, understandable) overprotectiveness Susan Martin had over her daughter, Anne, but only refer to it in reference to the litany of complaints Greg had about Susan. Was this really how Susan was with Anne, or was it down to Greg feeling resentful toward Anne for subconsciously reminding him that Anne was actually Eric's baby?

I didn't find him particularly interesting.  The only memory that stands out is when he beat up Eric when he thought he had raped Susan.  You can see a bit of him here, starting around 2:36, from 1976.

Bill Hayes is amazing at 94 years of age

Such a contrast to Frances Reid's last appearances.

His 50th should be getting tons of publicity from NBC. I remember the doco from a few years back with Carl Reiner, Norman Lear, Betty White and others over 80 and thinking Bill should have been a part of that as he was still working regularly and had been a big part of 50's variety TV.

Another example of how daytime is ignored.

Days itself didn't promote it, let alone NBC.   Not even a tweet.

I like how they put more effort into describing that set in the script than we see on screen today

    Bill Bell was headwriter then.

@JASON47 Hope you don't mind if I add a few clips.

    Doug and Julie meet, 1970.

Doug and Julie about to embark on their affair (when she was married to Scott Banning), 1970.

Doug and little Hope (Natasha Ryan), 1975.

Doug trying to win Julie after she divorced him when she was burned, 1979.

You can start watching episodes now! I guess the Feb. 27th date is for all the interactive stuff. How thrilling to have a soap streaming like this and 2.99 a month is very reasonable!

Oh good, I didn't try it yet!

  8. The website for The Doctors subscription service is up.  So far, it only has the 1967-1970 episodes that already aired on Retro TV.  The price is 2.99 per month, or 30.99 per year.  Guess it will be active starting February 27.

They all look like refugees from the set of Kung Fu. 😂

I can't believe they had Carolee ask Steve who could have sent them that crow's foot.  Umm, how about the crazy cult you've been dealing with the last few days, lol.  This story seems extra-strange when it's being told alongside the whole death-with-dignity thing they've been doing with Sarah's death.

  10. You're welcome!  It was interesting that they only taped ten days in advance back then.  The story re having Addie killed in an accident rather than from leukemia has changed over the years though.  Apparently, Patricia Barry had leaked the news of Addie's death from leukemia to a columnist friend of hers and the show received backlash from her fans.  Supposedly, Bill Bell had Addie killed instantly, with no death scene, to keep her from having time to do the same thing six months later.

@slick jonesI found an article from March 1991 that says he had just finished taping his AMC role.  The article also mentioned he had already been on Loving in a non-speaking role but I don’t know whether that was the same as the one you have listed.

    ***** SHADOWGRAM UPDATE #
    REMEMBERING JOHN KARLEN
It is with profound personal sadness that ShadowGram reports that beloved friend JOHN KARLEN passed away earlier today at age 86 of congestive heart failure in hospice care in Burbank, California.

Of course, John is best-known among "Dark Shadows" fans as the scheming drifter Willie Loomis, who becomes an unwitting servant to vampire Barnabas Collins, eventually becoming a confidant as well as a character with empathy and a moral compass.
John also was a longtime, generous supporter of DS fan efforts, readily helping the show enjoy a cult-classic afterlife by attending numerous DS Festivals as well as earlier DS-themed events, dating back to 1971 with John's participation in the "Miss American Ghost" contest to promote the release of the film "Night of Dark Shadows."

Indeed, John continued to be a lively, willing, and warm presence across nearly 50 years of the original DS series' afterlife.
When KHJ Television in Los Angeles began airing DS reruns in the mid-1970s, John joined a promotional blood drive. In 1977 he appeared as the first – and only - DS guest for the first-ever DS fan convention gathering, ShadowCon I, as part of the overall science fiction / fantasy / horror fan programming at StarCon in San Diego.

This soon was followed by annual DS-focused ShadowCon fan conventions held in Los Angeles through 1984. Along with other
original DS cast members, John was a regular guest.

Subsequently, John participated in the annual Dark Shadows Festivals on the west coast starting in 1987 and he began attending the New York area DS Fests a decade later. At every DS event he attended, John was always a delight to be with, very open, outspoken, often teasing and yet also interested in individual people and shared experiences and ideas.

Despite escalating health issues, John last traveled to New York to reunite with DS cast members in celebration of the show's 50th Anniversary in Tarrytown, NY in 2016. He also entertained fans at the DS Halloween Party in Hollywood, CA that same year. He made his last public appearance at the October 2018 Los Angeles sneak-preview of "Master of Dark Shadows" documentary in which he was interviewed.
John always enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow cast/crew members and interacting with fans of all ages from across the U.S, and beyond, including Canada, England, Australia, Mexico, and elsewhere.

John loved acting and telling stories of his early days growing up in Brooklyn, his Polish ancestry, his early work on the stage, favorite actors and movies, and his love of sports, the race track, and a good meal.

A veteran of the Korean war, John was a passionate man with a long life of adventures and accomplishments. His contributions both in front of and behind the camera will long be remembered by the countless friends and fans he touched along the way.

We thank you, John, for bringing so much into our lives.

Thanks for the articles, @jam6242. I was sure Eve was around longer than that - didn't she have some involvement in the Carrie saga? Weird.

Yes, I remember that she did now that you mentioned it.  Carrie somehow arranged for Eve to find Carrie's earring in Justin's bed and Eve told Jackie about it.  Jackie left town shortly after that.  I know Eve was around when Jackie's plane crashed, so Janet must have returned for a while.
