  1. At least I enjoy seeing CS as Victor, even if the show either needs to up the stakes or head to a climax. Nothing was as bad as last year’s endless story with Peter.
  2. I didn’t even really love Tony but his death was very moving and also hard to watch. Kind of like watching Laura grieve Lucky after the fire. It was hard to watch then and now because it was just so raw.
  3. SJB’s Carly had the edge to be just slightly dangerous as the wife of a mob boss. If they were being shot at I can easily imagine her Carly firing away. Not to mention any antics she would get up to during one of Sonny’s mental health breaks, which happened more frequently back then.
  4. Well we watched Helena strut around for something like 15 years without ever really going all out. But at least she was fun and looked fabulous. All her most heinous deeds were truly in the past.
  5. I thought Missy had great chemistry with Mark Valley on DAYS, and Matt. Stephanie Cameron was such a blank slate to me. They were so focused on someone that resembled Missy that they didn’t factor in her personality and the fire was just gone with that recast. Didn't Sherry leave GL rather abruptly? She had a real edge that Liz just doesn’t capture. Really a great marriage of Roger’s ambition and appetite, mixed with some of Holly’s neurotic personality. I agree Jason had great, although different chemistries with each Carly. Liz only had a spark with JJ and GV though.
  6. I wouldn’t assume that. I either read or saw her talking about missing acting more than she thought she would, and the show. Maybe she just isn’t into retirement, and now that she can have her hair however she wants and the show values her, maybe she just wants to be out and about. Plus it is an anniversary year.
  7. She’s been pretty vocal about this for a couple of years. She said the same during that ABC soaps special a few years ago. Think how awful that was, to have to justify this back then because she was a kid who was just trying to do what she thought Monty/network wanted. I am complicit though too- I loved them together (although I didn’t really see them in action until the 90’s return). I still think they should end the show together sometimes. But I also appreciate Laura not being a victim and Genie getting to stake her claim on how she feels about that story. @Darnwhile I don’t want to see him onscreen really anymore, I am amused Sonny lately is like Amy Vining, sticking her nose in everything and gossiping about everyone. Serves MB right for the years everyone else has no story except to talk about Sonny.
  8. Abby, Laura, and Gary are my three favorite characters, especially from seasons 3-7ish. Laura was such a missing presence when they wrote her out, and as much as I enjoyed Paige, I don’t think Greg is served as well without Laura. When it comes to the Lechowicks, there were some great moments and stories, and some questionable stories. I loved the Sumner Group stuff just before they left, and Anne and Paige were great characters. But it does get a bit shallow and glossy compared to the seasons before them. The thing with Konts is that even a terrible season was still more watchable than other 80’s soaps.
  9. He really seemed to get what the show was. He had the drama down, and played the absurdities in his delivery and reactions, but never felt like a cartoon to me.
  10. The last time I was emotional watching DAYS was during Will’s initial coming out stories, especially his scenes with Marlena where he was clearly troubled and almost there and Dee played it like Marlena was just waiting for him to say the words, quiet support and clear emotion in both of their eyes. It’s some of her best work in years too IMO.
  11. I don’t really watch DAYS all that often because I can’t stand Ron, but I will have to look those scenes up because I do like Flynn. It really was. We even got the mini slow-mo Anna reunion for the history before her reunion with Emma. As much as I enjoy Robin I don’t think I cried during any of her storylines after Stone until that reunion. Even mentioning Stone shows how far we have fallen. I am a sympathy crier so I am an easy mark. I truly bawled my eyes out often during that Stone storyline, and many soap moments. Now it’s like nothing really brings it out on daytime.
  12. Add Carly going all in on Dex and especially Michael before the mercenary reveal and this is almost a Guza sweeps twist. I would love it if this happened.
  13. James Reilly- not so much in his earlier work, but post DAYS possession through Passions- Characters constantly talking to themselves. Another trope of Reilly was running mini stories around the larger ongoing plots. He did this at GL, DAYS, and Passions. Examples like Belle’s kidnapping being another story told within the frame of Marlena cheating on Roman, without ultimately resolving the main plot, only extending it. Bob Guza- we spent a lot of time in court with Guza. Both in little trials and larger ones like Laura with Damian’s death, Luke on trial for “killing” Stefan, Michael’s trial about Claudia, the many Sonny trials. We saw Alexis, Ric and Scotty in court a lot.
  14. It’s been a bad week. I know I saw some mascara smudges on Gati’s face, but I’ll be damned if I could spot the tear that caused them.
  15. As I suffer through several people dry crying from Britt getting the Hook on GH, I tried to remember when was the last time I actually had a real emotional reaction while watching a soap. After some YouTube scrolling to revisit some scenes, for me, it was Tracy arriving and embracing Laura at GH when Lulu was injured and in a coma. Even watching it again it brings out some emotional response. While these scenes are few and far between and don’t have the weight of emotional moments from the past, I was wondering what was the last time anyone else was moved by these shows?
  16. It’s ridiculous too! There are plenty of attractive, age appropriate clothes for women of her size, both more formal as mayor and casual. I see cuter stuff in Target in the plus sized areas just walking through the store than I do on Laura.
  17. What kills me about Serena and Schroeder is that there is built in goodwill there. The audience already wants to see her. She looked great, she was a capable actress, she has important ties but as an adult is a blank slate. She should have been added to the show.
  18. It seemed to me we were setting up a classic Guza type emotional twist with Jason and Carly just as Sonny was returning. But they didn’t take it all the way and have them sleep together. All that chaos onscreen has to have been because of bts issues. But again, we will never know.
  19. I loved him as Rex. And as others have mentioned he did have a real twinkle in his eye, bringing more to the character than was on the page.
  20. You know, a classic soap twist would have been her admitting she was there but lying to cover for him, and it all blowing up in her face at a later date. Maybe even Cameron figuring it out and getting “revenge” on Dex by telling the cops. It’s like every attempt at drama is thwarted at GH by someone (Frank) who is embarrassed to go all in on something soapy. I didn’t even like Jason and Carly, but the fallout of him walking in shot while she was in bed with Sonny was good soap.
  21. I did enjoy RC on GH, but in hindsight it had more to do with just enjoying anything that wasn’t Sonny/Carly/Jason. I think she would have fit really well on a Bell show, she has that chilly demeanor that worked well on Y&R. CG was my first Skye as well, and I really enjoyed her on AMC.
  22. Jess Walton having such a small presence for the year is sad to me. I know she lives out of state but it just makes me sad.
  23. We have discussed this before, Guza was holding Sonny more accountable. I feel like it started with the Emily affair. Once Jason started turning on him more, then Carly joined in after Michael went on trial, he took a step back. You add in Dante (who Guza clearly loved), and he was having scenes where even Sonny would admit how terrible he can be, and that he didn’t want to change. His scenes with Brenda towards the end of her second return were excellent in this regard. I know people remember it being Sonny centric, and it was, but to me Jason was the character Guza used the most for the longest time. He was just in and out of Sonny’s pocket. But even with the writing no longer in his favor, MB still saw more episodes a year than he did once Frank arrived. Close to if not over 200 per year.
  24. And complained still! Because he wasn’t seeing counts like he did during Guza in the 200+ episodes a year range.
