I am kind of in favor of SNL ending when Lorne goes. I cannot think of anyone that would be named his successor that would have the same clout with the network executives to keep the show as it always has been. And I fear that interference will change the show in a fundamental way. Lorne has kept the wolves at bay for decades.

What breaks my heart for fans of this show that do pay and continue on, there is a very real possibility that the streamer gains numbers from this in the short term. But it’s got to keep bringing in new subscribers to be sustainable by corporate standards. Which means when PEACOCK stagnates again, you have to wonder how protected the show will be. Even in its current form, it’s an expensive show. If they want money from me, I’m going to need access to classic episodes.

The timeline and way this news was delivered is the surprise. Moving them to Peacock was totally expected, just not quite like this. I can only assume they have to renegotiate their contracts to film anything beyond their 8 months already taped. I know their filming style has kept them financially viable, but if anything, more care is going to be needed and required to keep going. And let’s get those classic episodes up to stream! Please!

What kills me is that this story isn’t poorly plotted or paced really. It’s the culmination of quite a few beats that have been played and dangled for years. It just doesn’t matter to me at all. I don’t care about any of it. And usually I am all for a long term story that plays out over years on a soap.

I used to feel she was treated horribly under JFP and Guza, often written as a plot piece instead of a character. She’s had to sell some ridiculous story turns during her tenure, and often wasted in pairings. Both nothing compares to this- she has truly been used to prop people who should have long been gone from GH, and now even her biggest story in years is currently all about Finn. It’s appalling.

Cybil Shepherd has publicly stated Moonves cancelled her sitcom because she declined a romantic relationship. Her show was less expensive and had higher ratings than shows he didn’t cancel airing at the same time.

Wasn’t the perception that his Michael was not capable of acting out what they wanted with the prison rape storyline? As in a straight man being assaulted. His Michael could very easily have been gay from what I remember back then, and he would have been fantastic doing it. I know he was well liked by MB and other cast members. Truthfully, Chad has had the most chemistry onscreen with other dudes anyway.

Saw Kin posted this throwback on Twitter. He was a cutie back then, and I think the only character on GH I have liked as both a nice guy and a total unapologetic scumbag. Scotty is such a great character.

Thinking about SJB temp dreams makes me think just how far off model Carly is. I often think about her ferocity, her grit, but I forget how selfish she played her at times too. Michael was often a pawn to get what she wanted, and only when TB played her did she bring those softer layers consistently. SJB’s Carly would not have been the best mother nor probably having talks in the kitchen with her daughter.

I cannot wait to see this, hopefully next week. Donna said in her interview that he told her it was the best audition he had seen. I love his other films!

I loved the stories about people hogging airtime when it was live to tape and Robinson speaking quietly to force them to film him in closeup so they could hide the boom by bringing the camera in closer. Hilarious.

I just saw Michael O’Leary is going to be in Halloween Ends. Not sure if this has already been posted.

So simple and yet so the right direction to go in. It’s also what is missing on a show like DAYS- Sami should have the level headed offspring mixing it up with Carrie’s mini Sami. That would have been fabulous. Both great articles, thanks for posting.

Pretty sure I saw her tweet that they are on a filming break and likely will not have a temp.

What I wonder is what the current show, with this cast/characters would be like with the better writing team of Guza’s era supporting/fleshing out the current HW team. Because I think they have had several periods of actually entertaining ideas that should have worked better than what made it onscreen. FV ran them all off IIRC. I would kill for folks like Michele Val Jean, Karen Harris, and Patrick Mulcahey to be back on the team long before I would wish for Guza again. And Shelly Curtis directing and producing scenes again would elevate what we are seeing tremendously.

I eventually hated what he did, but his writing team told much stronger day to day episodes, even when the show was treading water between events (which I felt happened a lot). I hate JFP too, but she knew how to give a scene the weight it needed and the show felt les static. But I would never want them back unless we had someone there to reign Guza in. I was just rewatching the clips of the Panic Room storyline, and although it was not my favorite event they did, it is still compelling to watch Liz discover Cary. I can’t remember the last time I felt anything from FV ‘s GH. I still think he is holding on to some backwards Frons ideals to not lean in to the soapy. Just do it!

RC even gave Luke a DID storyline. Which was absolutely ridiculous and such a waste of a story actually exploring Luke and Bobbie’s past with their parents. The show is just so boring. As has been the case repeatedly with the current creative team, there are bones of good story there, but it often gets detailed by FV pets, wasted time away from actual favorite characters, and pairings that make no sense.

He’s not on contract, why would GH punish him for not being available? If they want him on a schedule so badly, they can offer him a contract. People have lives, other jobs, etc.

I found Diana so annoying, especially with Chip. I remember thinking Gary and Laura had good chemistry too. The trio of Abby/Gary/Laura as business associates is one of my favorite beats in season 5 and beyond. I love the evolution of Laura as much as Abby’s over the years. She’s great fun being allowed to have a cynical personality and I do think it was a huge mistake to get rid of her down the road. She was more than viable. The characters on Knots had such rich lives compared to the other soaps of the era. There were plenty of business stories on Dynasty and Dallas, but the ones on Knots just feel more layered and real.

They recast Bo Brady back when this show had many more millions of viewers. They could easily have recast Ciara again. How stupid. I know this has nothing to do with him, but I am blaming this on Frank Valentini lol.

It’s so shortsighted- think how many times over 20 years Bill Bell and then Alden were able to reignite Jill/Katherine and have it help galvanize the show. The same could be said of Dorian and Viki. There are some relationships that never should have been repaired on GH- Carly is at the center of many of them. At least Robin and Carly never started having ladies nights together.

I really miss how the show used to have Bobbie and Laura at odds sometimes because they have the history and they are very different people. Labine and even Guza (a little) kept this thread alive in an adult way. Bobbie didn’t agree with how Laura was raising Lucky. And she would lay into Laura when she kicked Luke out. There used to be some semblance of depth to these relationships. Instead we get Sonny playing softball with the rest of the town. The benevolent godfather (who may or may not make his money running guns, drugs outside PC, and women).
