BTG: May 2025 Discussion Thread
I can't believe the gall of Leslie, but I love it! Makes great TV. I hope they move on from this Ashley/Derek story about having difficult adjusting to living together. I get it. It's a thing. However, the way it's being written is boring. It should have been written for comedy getting on each others nerves. Maybe it would have lightened both characters and made them people to root for. Okay. What happened to Tomas? He's improved so much this week! He is still a little dry sometimes, but I stick with him for now. I enjoy hearing his backstory and bonding with Eva. Then, of course, Eva just rocks everything.

I don't understand Cady either. I was looking forward to seeing her on this show, but unfortunately not the way she's currently playing Pamela. It seems cartoonish. Something this show doesn't need if it wants to be taken seriously. Why are they letting her do that? I liked Vanessa initially, but they need to tone her down. Her hooking up and role playing with so many people is a turn off for her character for me. The Diego angle was fun. Should have left it at that. But all the others makes me have less sympathy for her. If they are going to tinker with the cast (Ted), please consider Tomas and Derek. For me they are the two that pull the show down for me. A hot Eva/Tomas/Kat triangle could work with the right actor. I think Jen Jacobs might be better if she had a better storyline. I'd give her some time and thankfully Martin has improved. Uh-oh Jacob!! Mama better not mess with you!

BTG: First-ever role recast!
I watched the livestream with Daphne and Trisha. Yes, DD sent Maurice a text to join them. If I remember correctly, he responded fairly quickly but DD had trouble getting him to join in on the livestream. She had trouble trying to connect with others, as well, as she did not seem to be very tech savvy. I wouldn't necessarily say Maurice declined. I thought it was cool he responded within a few minutes to her text. I doubt there was anything personal between the two in regards to the reason he was recast.

Her and her sister...Hayley?? Would make Naomi have to do something nice for Hayley by reuniting them. I know there's speculation June and Hayley are related.

I can't manage any interest in the "teens". Maybe it's because I don't care for kids in general. lol. Not sure the purpose of them being on so much other than strife for Martin/Smitty. Can Jacob take me in? I need rescuing.

This and Nicole spraying Febreze don't bother me. When they write it into the dialogue is when it's a no for me. I'm for Kat vs Eva every day of the week!

I absolutely love the idea of Krista Allen being on the show. I wouldn't saddle her with Jen though. I'd create a brand new character for her. She could be a diva who lives Beyond The Gates and is gradually seen at the country club. Then I'd do a slow roll out where the Duprees don't like her and her family because she is part of the first white family that "infiltrated" Beyond The Gates. Then slowly...and I mean slowly...expand Krista's character's family as a rival to the Duprees as some have said the show should have. A younger son to mix it up with Chelsea/Kat, a daughter to maybe run for office against Martin. Krista Allen could easily be a great matriarch for a rival family.

BTG: May 2025 Discussion Thread
I also think Joey will end up Ashley's father. Joey made a comment that Nicole's marriage falling apart was similar to him but without the illegitimate child. Or something like that. But I'm wondering if he used the word "illegitimate" to differentiate intentionally or maybe Jan had the baby without telling him just like Leslie claims with Ted and that was why she was acting weird with Leslie. Jan could have still been "honest with Ashley" by telling her what kind of person her father is without telling her specifically who he is. This could be another "revelation" down the line MVJ set up to keep story momentum going. We are led to believe Ashley is such a "good girl" and it turns out she's Joey's daughter. Maybe she will turn and not be so "goody-goody". Etc...another story point to go down. When Leslie said she still had more surprises and stormed off, my first thought was Eva isn't really hers. This would explain why Leslie is abandoning "her daughter" harshly with all the comments of how can she do that to her own daughter. Eva isn't her daughter she's Nicole's, so she couldn't care less about Eva. They keep going on about the DNA test...for her father...no one has ever checked to see if Leslie's DNA matches. They just assume. Why? Because Leslie said so? Maybe this ties into the theories people have that Leslie stole Eva from the hospital (since she's already proven she can sneak into hospitals as a nurse) and raised Nicole's daughter, keeping her away from the "happy couple" until she used her to destroy their happiness when she pleased. She could have done it because she wanted her own baby with Ted and it was the closest she thought she could get to having his child. Eva and Kat being twins and having that "psychic" connection Martin mentioned about Kat calling out Eva from the get-go. Just rambling...but I love this show much and how it has me interested in finding out. Does anyone care who Alexandre Dumas is at this point? Does anyone care if Liam lives or dies? Just saying... lol

Those messy diner scenes were amazing. I love this kind of soap scene. Multiple characters in each others' business at the same time. So fun. And so different from Y&R that seems to only have 2 or 3 people talking to each other while the rest of the restaurant is empty. Amber has completely won me over as Eva. She's currently my fave daytimer. I can't wait to watch her continually shine. The best thing about this show compared to the others is that it...moves. Compared to Y&R and B&B where they have literally the same conversation for an entire week (sometimes weeks!), BTG doesn't feel at all repetitive. Finally. A soap soaping. Such a breath of fresh air.

DAYS/GH: RIP Denise Alexander
She'll always be Mary McKinnon to me. She is definitely a daytime legend who will be missed.

LATEST RATINGS: April 28 - May 2, 2025
I'm really curious about streaming numbers for all soaps, but especially BTG. I keep hoping that BTG gets larger streaming views. Probably just wishful thinking. However, it strikes me as the show that would have more people streaming at night after work or on weekends than the other shows. It's such a shame that arguably the two best episodes of the season so far (Thurs/Fri) were aired on a preemption week. If only it could have had the slow build for the entire week.

ARTICLE: ‘The Young and the Restless’ Sets Special Standalone Episode Dedicated To Love & Romance
It's daytime. There should be love (and romance) every day of the week. The fact that they are hyping up one day of "love" is hilarious!! I just want to shake my head. Clearly this show doesn't remember what it is supposed to be. Maybe someone should be forced to watch early era Bill Bell episodes to be reminded.

Another World Discussion Thread
I loved Felicia and Donna. They were two of the reasons I couldn't stop watching the show even when the writing was horrible. I was never really a fan of Rachel's unless she was sniping at Cecile (my fave character!). But Felicia and Donna (especially Anna Stuart) are AW to me. Of course, it was around the time of their arrivals that I remember I started watching the show. I was 10 in '83. For me, they were always there. I wouldn't have wanted either of them to be killed off. Rachel and Mac were okay for me but I never saw most of their relationship play or Rachel's previous work with Steve and Alice. I just saw her as there; the matriarch. Never a fan of Rachel and Carl. It made no sense whatsoever. I did like Quinn and was shocked when they killed her off. Her and Zack were just starting to become a couple I wanted to watch. She should definitely have been a fixture on the show along with her family. Carter and Thomasina I thought were fun and a great couple, too. That's the thing about being an AW fan. The show was always on the brink of greatness, but then it would shoot itself in the foot with stupid decisions from writing to cast exits, etc. They could just never quite get it together. The cast was amazing! It's the only thing that saved them for so long.

I hope for a multi-year renewal, too! This is the only show I've been excited to see the next episode in forever. Considering their demos are quite decent. the initial episodes showed there is still an interest in daytime, and it has helped to boost the rest of the soap line up at times, it should be around for a while.

Y&R: Actress leaving
I'm shocked, too! I really like her though the writing for Summer has been horrible the past year. She's basically been whiny and in Phyllis/Daniel's stories instead of her own. Pining for Kyle is ridiculous. I can understand her not wanting to continue it. I think she'll do well elsewhere.

Y&R: April 2025 Discussion Thread
Is Phyllis seriously still whining about Daniel to Billy? This is how many days now? No. One. Cares. Can they just cure Amy already and let her move on? The Sally/Audra and Holden scenes are the only thing interesting...at all...today.

ALL: Best character FEUDS
I still stand behind the idea that Robert Newman should take over as Roman. Robert working with Lauren and Deidre would elevate the show. (Yes, I know Josh Taylor isn't going anywhere).

BTG: April 2025 Discussion Thread
I had similar thoughts, but then I wonder if the preemptions last month for NCAA (because the show planned an earlier debut) and then all the news breaks have thrown off the timing for the show. Hopefully it gets back on track because I was loving the cliffhanger Friday aspect. I do feel like there are too many stories going on at the same time right now. This leads to episodes being all over the place. I'd like to see them scale it back a bit and give fewer stories more focus. I'm loving Eva and the Ted/Nicole drama. Is Hayley "trapping" Bill with a baby and possible first son? Hayley is intriguing to me because I can't figure her out. I still want to know what Martin's "secret" is...but could pass on the teen storyline. The Doug/Vanessa/Joey story has been better. I thought for sure Joey wanted Doug in debt so he'd steal drugs from the hospital for Joey to sell/distribute. I do wish there would be a large umbrella story. A character is rushed to the hospital in need of emergency surgery where Doug is distracted/too tired from his addiction and is deemed responsible for the character's death. Maybe Diego? Shanice/Ashley try to stick up for Doug. Vanessa realizes Joey is partly to blame so Vanessa vs Joey. Jacob and Marcel "investigate" with Marcel trying to cover up Joey's connection to Doug and Naomi upset Jacob would believe Ashley might try to protect Doug. Involve characters other than the Duprees.

If anyone is interested, I've been writing a soapy novel series set on the coast of Maine. As a fan of Dallas and Melrose Place, it's written in that vein. I'm four novels in with the fifth in the works. Pressing Matters, Last Will & Punishment, Battle Lines Drawn, and The Paper Wars. B&B: Veteran Actor returns
I'm a JW fan so I'm anxious to see this. As others have said, anything to get Brooke away from Ridge is a plus, but Nick is a great choice. A built in history and proven chemistry. I'm sure this is a short arc until he resumes taping in Vancouver. I'll take whatever good doses I can get right now! The show needs a major overhaul. They better not forget his connection to Katie, too. Heather Tom needs something to do! Bill/Katie/Nick, Nick/Brooke/Ridge, and Nick/Taylor. Plenty of history and stir up. If only it would be done well...if only...if...

B&B renewed for three more seasons through 2028
Though I find the show annoying a lot of the time, I'm glad to see it sticking around. We finally got a new soap! We need to build back the genre. Keeping B&B helps that momentum.

Texas! Discussion Thread
I agree Donald May should have been Alex and Kin Shriner should have been Ryan. Throw him into the mix from the start. Ryan and Ginny could have still have been paired. Having three top leads, Beverlee, Donald, and Kin, in story together could have pulled in more interest.

Texas! Discussion Thread
I found this part to be hilarious. On the surface it sounds mean, but those that have worked with Beverlee have said she had a wicked sense of humor. I'm sure this was done tongue-in-cheek while still getting a point across. I, too, wish there had been more focus on backstage drama going on. There definitely seemed to be enough of it. As someone else said, Texas seems to be a blueprint for how not to launch a soap. Starting a new show already in progress (with its stories starting on AW) had to have been a turnoff for non-AW fans tuning for a chance to watch a new show at the beginning. (Think BTG recently.) It seems the show was doomed from the start. My biggest memory of Texas was the Hitopah storyline and Brette being in the cave to get the Fire Compass only to have legions of snakes fall on her while retrieving it. I was 9. It terrified me, but I loved the Indiana Jones type of story. I was surprised to realize the head writer, Rader, had been hired to write the show because of a random book Kobe plucked out of an airport bookstore. I know some people love Kobe, but she didn't come across to me like someone who knew what she was doing. Randomly hiring completely unexperienced writers for the show (Rader, then Long) doesn't seem wise. Although, I guess Long turned out okay. Kobe also seemed petty with actors. Not utilizing someone like Kin Shriner because she felt he wasn't behind her or the show seemed stupid. Wasn't there a comment she was afraid to focus on Courtney/Jeb because if they became popular it would just be a bigger loss when they left? Umm...you're at the bottom of the ratings. Is it worse to have attention on a couple for a month than not at all. The show needed attention! And who is to say Kin Shriner wouldn't have stayed if he felt utilized and had story? He admitted he loved living in New York. Didn't Phillip Clark also get ignored once it was known he was going to exit at the end of his contract? He was moved offscreen. Ryan and Ginny were arguably the most popular couple on the show and you just sideline Ryan instead of using him while you can? I also noticed Harley Kozak make the comment that she had nothing juicy to tell about anything behind the scenes of Texas because they all genuinely liked each other, but if she had been asked about Guiding Light.... PLEASE, someone ask her about GL! I loved the new direction Texas was going in the last year. Probably because Ruby became my favorite character and I loved the Mark/Ruby/Rikki/Brette quad. And, of course, I loved the Reena/Justin/Ashley triangle. If only they could have been given more time...(without being moved to 11 am.. Yes, the share went up, but viewership went down.)
