Well Loralie was pretty stupid..not an alter but that anyone would think that this woman who looked exactly like Beth was any thing other then...Beth. Never understood the decision to just have her return a few weeks later with her alter in charge and no one knows. But it was a step in the right direction in terms of explaining why the character of Beth ran from simpering victim, to vixen, to out right bitch, to heroine and anything in between, but it wasnt followed up on. I do think Gold had a difficult period in that he was transitioning from San Crud, and while resurrecting Carmen..made the mob less prominent..he did do more with family stuff and little character things and used Aunt Meta well.

Yep he did use Meta quite well, and it was the never heard again Lighthouse Gala was first mentioned. He seemed to tease a pairing between Alan and Claire too.

  2. Margaret DePriest's time on The Doctors was the last time I was heavily engaged in watching the soap, since the height of the Pollacks tenure. Despite a few missteps, I was enthralled by Ann/Paul/Scott and their manipulations over everybody in Madison. Everything after that was hit or miss. DePriest should have stayed longer, and later on Marland's tenure was a snooze fest.

I didn't find Sarah Dancy all that bad, she just lacked an edge about her. I liked the original actress better.

I enjoyed Lloyd "Lucky" Gold's tenure on GL, things were actually happening under him compared to his predecessor (cigarette girl, Blake becoming a joke, and mob shootouts in the Bauer kitchen.) With the exception of the time travel storyline, I enjoyed it. The show only got better when Taggart joined, and later Carolyn Culliton. Things got worse when Conboy/Weston's episodes started airing.

Mario died from a heart attack in front of Marco.

Not exactly. She had self esteem problems and she was browsing at a department store. Talbot offered her sex in exchange for the dress. The euphoria elevated spirits and then he started to introduce her to other men. Over time, it became an addiction. Then Marco found out and blackmailed her into being his "Madam". The fitness club, I believe, was a front for a whorehouse.

Hmm this is so much detailed and deeper than what I've read before on the story. The summaries, though helpful, don't do the show justice from Russell/Hall's time on OLTL

Yeah, this show fails on the execution. Again, the ideas are all there for an entertaining show.

That seems like a good guess.

Just like the culmination to the Chase/Willow/Michelle story, the execution to the Sonny is alive reveal has just been executed wrong.

It should have been revealed early on to Britt that Jason and Carly were a marriage of convenience, with Britt/Jason still carrying on a secret (or not so secret) love affair.  Both Carly (in true Carly fashion) and the mob should have manipulated the situation to where Jason would have no choice but to call things off with Britt. Britt reacts badly to the news and it sends Jason straight into Carly's arms, which leads to the pair developing actual feelings for each other. But again the execution was off, and Britt has seemingly been left twisting in the wind.

If the show wanted to keep Jax alive(ugh) while knowing the secret of Sonny's whereabouts, I would've had Nina run off with Sonny/Mike, perhaps Mike kills Peter, and the pair go on the run from the law. Maybe while they are on the run an accident happens which causes Nina to confess the truth to Mike who she believes is on the brink of death.

It's so obvious there are too many cooks in the kitchen with this show, from network interference to interference from Frank. It's disappointing, but I must say I continue to watch because I am genuinely interested in seeing what happens to the characters and couples on the show.

  5. I’m sure this was mentioned elsewhere but looking at the canvas for characters who would’ve been the most vulnerable to possession I think it should have been Nicole after the dissolution of her marriage, being told to stay away from Rafe(roll eyes), etc.

I can’t help to have this nagging feeling that Ron will using the devil as a way to progress several stalled storylines; the devil possesses Brady and he seduces Chloe, the devil then hops to Allie and she gives Tripp hell and seduces Chanel, and so on.

That was a weird point for TD. 1977 was a very uneven year. There were the lackluster, anticlimactic exits of Elizabeth Hubbard, Julia Duffy and Geraldine Court. There was the weird story of Tom Carroll, which always seemed to be rewritten on the fly (and Tom had been recast by now with Jonathan Frakes, after Jim Rebhorn had originated the part and played it for a few episodes). Dr. Jesse Rawlings was a promising character who went nowhere, despite being played by the wonderful Petronia Paley. This was Douglas Marland's first soap gig as headwriter, and fortunately for him he had nowhere to go but up. He did - but only after he left TD.

I believe the period shortly after the Pollacks left was a pivotal time for the show, one that the show wasn't able to fully rise up to the occasion for, and thus the start of the overall the downward spiral for it. ABC was busily gaining steam with expanding their shows and the penning several epic stories, or building on them. TD was so inconsistent storywise and with their characters, that it hurt viewer investment, and I can sort of see why someone might tune in to OLTL or RH at the time, which had storylines building or hitting their climaxes.

It still feels so unreal (and yet so heartwarming) to see Anna and Carrie’s mother/daughter relationship on screen - Leann Hunley should really have been a presence on DOOL during the 90s when Carrie was part of some major plots. She and Christie Clark work so naturally together!

Really missed opportunity there with having Anna on the canvas in the early 90s. I would've enjoyed seeing Anna go up against a teenage Sami lol
