Pathetic. Jeff Zucker has always been sleazy and cutrate. I don't know why anyone watches that sham of a network. Anyway, more good news in Kansas. http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/election/article93406217.html http://www.kansas.com/news/politics-government/election/article93377897.html

Tim Huelskamp, one of the leaders of the odious "Freedom Caucus" who repeatedly hold the country hostage for purity contests, has been ousted in his primary. Some are saying this is bad for Democrats, but I don't even care - I'm glad that people in Kansas, which has been razed and gutted over and over by these types (their horrific governor being the "best" example), have had their fill. People like this should not have power. https://twitter.com/Redistrict?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^news|twgr^author

Sometimes I worry that we have bottomed out and anything Trump does after this will be seen as a comeback, or as people crying wolf. Of course this has been going on for a year now, so maybe he just can't keep digging. I saw an article by Michael Moore claiming that Trump will win in part because a lot of people will vote for him because they aren't supposed to, they're told how it's wrong to support him, so they do for a thrill. He said this would be like Jesse Ventura. I don't really buy that, but I can't discount how many will vote for him as a "I hate all of them" protest vote. I laughed when I saw that he is endorsing the primary opponents of McCain and Paul Ryan. He really is such a child. Paul Ryan's anguished elder statesman posturing will get another rehearsal.

That has been known for years. Which is why it's so pathetic to see all Hillary supporters have this moral superiority against Trump supporters. The US have, along with their pals in the UK, France, Turkey, Qatar and wahhabi Saudi Arabia, armed, trained and funded islamic terror groups in Libya and Syria. Obama and Hillary are no better than Bush. They are responsible for so much death and destruction in MENA, and all the negative effects it's having on Europe, yet Trump is the bad guy because of his language. When someone says we should support Russia because Putin is nice to them personally, it's not just about language. Hillary's war votes and the claims that she's a warmonger have followed her for years and still do, moreso than Trump, who is seen by many as some type of anti-war crusader for some inexplicable reason.

He seems to be getting more and more lost in the head. I know Vee has already mentioned this but I'm truly baffled at his ranting about how fire marshals are trying to hurt his campaign. I think he is the type of person who always has to feel victimized and aggrieved. And that's dangerous as hell in someone who wants to be President.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I know that Sandie had a daughter (and yes I did get to see those great episodes before they were taken down), but I was under the impression that she gave her up for adoption. That's why she left for a while in 1983-84, to have her child away from Beckindale, and from Pat who wasn't all that supportive from what I gather. But even without that child Sandie could now have kids that would be in their early to mid-20s. And as you point out, she has a history with Eric that could be revisited. She did, but in 1989 the girl's adoptive parents were killed and Sandie moved to Aberdeen to raise her. I didn't ever know any of this as it's not really in a lot of the history, but there's a book from the early '90s that mentions it and has a photo of Sandie and Louise from before they left the village. I'll try to find it and scan it when I can. As you mentioned above, they could also bring back Sam Skilbeck, with appearances from Matt and Dolly. They could buy Butler's from Moira, as it hasn't felt right there without John IMO. I don't mind the Dingles most of the time, but I really get tired of them when they're in superiority mode, and when they are all over the Woolpack. It's just silly that they no longer have bar staff and instead hire relatives or love interests. Belle's doctor boyfriend pulling pints? Sam Dingle running the pub? No wonder the place is always empty now.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
She already has a daughter - she left the show to be with her. Louise would be about 33 now, the right age to have kids who could drive some story. And Sandie could too. They could revive her feud with Eric, or make them business partners. Or have her take over Home Farm. Or go into business with ever-isolated Megan. Did you get to see the two February 1983 episodes that were briefly on YT? If not I can reupload them. Lots of good drama in them surrounding Sandie's pregnancy. As for Andy and his exit, a site was up that was putting out spoilers for like a month or two months in advance. The site is gone now, but they leaked what seems to be Andy's exit.

That montage at the end was absolutely perfect. I laughed at seeing that old man with his tongue hanging out, which already became a gif. Meanwhile, the usual suspects start the smears: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/roger-stone-khizr-khan-muslim-brotherhood-conspiracy

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Looks like Kelvin Fletcher is leaving the show, as he's hinted at for about a year now. http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/news/a803299/emmerdale-spoilers-is-kelvin-fletcher-leaving-andy-sugden-role/ I can’t say I’m surprised about Kelvin, but the final reality of his leaving has saddened me. I hated a lot about Andy - his sick relationship with Katie, anything about his relationship with Debbie, his self-righteousness, the double standards he frequently benefited from - but I loved a lot about Andy too. Kelvin’s acting (always underrated), and Andy with the Sugdens, Andy with Bernice, Andy with Jo (before he became abusive). The show just isn’t going to be the same without him, especially as the male characters in his age range are all mostly undeveloped (Pete) or have a lot of serious writing hurdles (Robert, Ross). Andy’s relationship with Robert was one of the most fascinating relationships in Emmerdale history. Robert was the reason he came on the show in the first place, a scared, neglected child whose only relatives were a jailbird father and an alcoholic grandmother who barely bothered. Robert saw a friend and a brother. He wouldn’t up on Andy. And even though he hurt Andy, and Andy hurt him, so many times over the years, he’s never given up on Andy. I don’t think he ever could. The Sugden family is the heartbeat of Emmerdale. Robert’s return and the strength of Sugden-related material over the last few years proves that, even if it shouldn’t have needed proving. With Robert in a more stable place and Victoria finally becoming her own character again (albeit still in a supporting role), there has never been a better time to expand on the family. Andy’s absence will leave a huge void, but I hope the show will see their importance and see this as an opportunity to rebuild this crucial group while they can.

I read that article after I saw you mention it. Big money and ties to dictators is certainly nothing new for either party but this really is an eye-opener. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/01/us/paul-manafort-ukraine-donald-trump.html?_r=0 It's saddening, if not surprising, that the "liberal" media lets Trump get away with his blatant shilling with only a minimum of pushback. I posted this before but it's an article about his years with Marcos: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/06/2016-donald-trump-paul-manafort-ferinand-marcos-philippines-1980s-213952

Sad to hear. One of the last film stars (sort of stars) left of that era. I enjoyed her in Summer Stock.

Another impeccable performance from Elizabeth Lawrence. It's a shame they didn't try to keep Myra around in later years, although I guess I get their reasoning. Taylor Miller always gave such delicate performances as Nina, but never weak or feeble. It's easy to see why AMC thought they could easily recast the role - and why they failed.

I think Vee posted this before, or mentioned it, but it's a clear example of how the Malone/Griffith return was being marketed - very self-aware, reminding viewers of past favorites and how the future was going to be as good or better. I wonder if it clearly not turning out that way was another reason why Valentini and Frons ended up flushing so much of the show.

The Politics Thread
Oh I definitely see a lot of this. The untrustworthiness and likability of HRC has been a factor from the very beginning. The two major things I hear from people supporting Trump are that and their complete disregard for any of the racist, misogynistic, homophobic, fear mongering garbage that comes out of his mouth because IMO they secretly love each word. I don't discount that there are people who feel left behind and are struggling. And you hear about that particularly from people in the rust belt states. But maybe it sounds cold on my part, but I do think some of these people are using that as their reasoning for supporting Trump as they embrace every vile word that comes out of his mouth. Some may not say it, but they do. Even GOP leaders, the 2 Mr. Kahn reached out to in his last interview, I don't believe for one second either of the two, even Paul Ryan who some have fooled themselves into thinking is some beacon of light, secretly love every word coming out of Trump's mouth that demeans those they have been indirectly demeaning politically and policywise for years. He's saying everything they would love to say but haven't for years. I think Paul Ryan is deluded enough to think he truly is helping people. That's the Ayn Rand philosophy - you crush people for their own good. It's what society is supposed to be. Trump doesn't care about whether he's helping anyone. He wants power and he wants to make sure everyone knows how powerful he is. That's why I think Paul Ryan is genuinely disillusioned by him. He has convinced himself that grinding into the dust is for the greater good. To Trump, it's just a way to get his dick hard.

Many who are leaning toward Trump are likely doing so because they don't trust Hillary, they can't stand Hillary, they're afraid of terrorism, they're tired of the status quo, or they're afraid or angry about their job. All of these things are difficult or impossible for Hillary to address. I don't think most of the potential Trump voters actually like Trump - I think many would rather vote for someone else - but they can make him what they want him to be in their head if they feel they have no choice.
