  1. Another article about dying insects. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/27/magazine/insect-apocalypse.html

  3. "Democrats in disarray," and the not-so-subtle media efforts to make sure we know Democrats will pay the price for this shutdown (as they always do), roll on. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/09/house-democrats-government-shutdown-strategy-1092440
  4. It's what the AP has been since Ron Fournier took over.
  5. A lot of the media coverage I saw (including from some I'd half-expected better from, like Colbert) was making fun of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. It feels like whatever criticism Trump would have gotten has been pushed away for the usual bot-driven meme culture and the media's general need to remind us that Democrats are 'uncool' and a waste of space. What a [!@#$%^&*] joke the AP is - not that this is a surprise. It's just unfortunate this represents the Beltway at large and too many in the public.
  6. I think it's less about the public being won over and more about the Republicans staying in line and the media doing their usual handstands.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised. The thing with AOC is it is always about her. Media coverage, yes, but also when she gives comments, we're given reminders (some subtle and some not) that she has the solutions, she is above the rest, etc. That doesn't mean she's a bad person or a terrible politician, but she reminds me so much of the types of Democrats I learned to avoid...even as she claims she is nothing like them.
  8. It was hard to get past "broadcast networks are literally broad."
  9. Didn't people say that's why Whoopi won for Ghost?
  10. The media never liked Obama because they had no respect for him and because they are essentially racist. They fear Trump but deep down they also respect him. He says whatever he wants and people listen. He's teflon. That's what many of them see themselves as being - or what they wish they could be. They thought he was their friend, and deep down they still hope he is. CBS is also giving one of his old sycophants, Sean Spicer, a gig on Celebrity Big Brother. I'm glad Colbert is speaking out but I wish he'd just quit as today proves yet again just how much the media hates this country and wants us to suffer. This did make me laugh:
  11. What kind of "steak" do they think inmates are having, exactly? And do they realize that inmates often have to pay for most of what they have? I'd love to see these hack journalists eating the "steak" that you get in prison. The media in this country is disgusting. Many people on the left, the right, and in the middle know this. There's a reason why Trump's attacks on them resonate as much as they do.
  12. I saw some of them insisting she had faked her reaction to winning. I don't think most of them even know who she is...sad.
  13. Will you miss the show?
  14. I'm thrilled to hear Glenn Close won - it sometimes feels like she's been forgotten in recent years. I don't mind Gaga, but I hope her fans won't attack Glenn Close (then again they weren't in the same category were they?? Or were they? I haven't watched yet). I'm glad to hear Richard Madden won too. I just loved him on Game of Thrones, even if he hasn't ever known what to do with his hair since then. I'm also glad to hear Rami Malek did NOT mention Singer when he won. Malek is so endearing in such an odd way.
  15. Thank you. Wow. That Selena and Cooper stuff sounds ridiculous. And I never remember hearing much about it at all. Only in recent years, and even then only haltingly, has anyone started to address the damage of relationships like those, rather than just pretend it's some rite to manhood.
  16. I know I've said all this before but I do think that Courtney was tremendously good in her 1989 appearances as Alice - she brought so much weight to her scenes, and incredible charisma and melancholy. She was the perfect partner to Victoria Wyndham, who also had that type of style by this time. I don't know why they didn't take further advantage of Alice, but maybe it's for the best. Can you imagine what JFP would have done to her?
  17. Denise Pence talks about the end of her run at GL and her life after GL.
  18. Denise Pence did a few of these a few years ago and I guess decided to finish the series...and talks about her exit from the show along with life after soaps. She also includes her last scene as Katie.
  19. I notice that when Obama was in office and there were shutdowns, the media tut-tutted to no end about broken Washington, and why wasn't the President leading. Now that a Republican is in the White House, there is much less appetite for this ending - instead it's just treated as some kind of bruising match over who will blink first, and how resolute Trump is. Most of the press hates America and struggles to hide it. They only want to suck on the far right teat and to lord over everyone in perpetual moral superiority.
  20. I'd agree. The show had huge problems from early into Guza's return. He was very eager to rot away GH's foundations - he seemed deeply contemptuous of the show, and of soap operas as a whole. Riche never should have allowed him to do what he did to the Quartermaines, or allowed the Jason worship, or allowed the rape revisitation story. Maybe those decisions were out of her hands, I don't know.
  21. DRW50 replied to YRBB's topic in Off Topic Lounge
So, Paula Faris apparently interviewed Gavin McInness (ringleader of an extremist group) in a puff piece for ABC...and she also has ties to him.
  22. Kathy briefly had a flirtation with Masood which stopped when Ian hit the roof. Otherwise that's it. Tina's story this year involved her remembering psycho Stuart locking her in a car boot. Jane just never came back - they have barely ever mentioned her since. Max was reported to the police by Ian but they decided he'd suffered enough, I think. Ben is fine, last mentioned months ago when Phil went to see him.
  23. I don't get the attention-seeking Bernie or AOC vibes from Congresswoman Tlaib, this was likely an emotional statement in what she took as a private moment, but I'm disappointed at the gift given to the GOP and the media right off the bat. I think impeachment talk is a mistake and also a huge Pandora's Box.
  24. I read that Andrea Mitchell (who of course would love Liz Cheney as the Bushes employed her husband for 8 years) was gushing about Liz being a "rising star." To the media, I guess she is. She has the right last name, she's cold, she's mean, and she's a hatemonger. That is their ideal Republican.
