I think we're too polarized for any further increase, but I'm glad it's over majority level for now. I see that balloon head Newt Gingrich is out bashing this. I don't know how even Faux News can avoid laughing in his face.

That guy is one of those "both sides" bozos. Just another reason to ignore CNN.

Of Jessica Walter? I think she's great, although not a superfan.

The most interesting part for me was her talking about her acting techniques with the other Abbotts. You could really feel that improv style when she was in scenes with Terry Lester. They had a special chemistry. Also the part about viewers looking up to Ashley. I think Bill Bell tried to sort of keep that in mind - even when Ashley was involved in an affair and had an abortion, she was still treated as a heroine. Only after Bell left did the show really start to go haywire with her character (the sperm story).

Poor Claudia Lonow - no mention of her in the video description and the only comment is from a headcase.

Ken Starr and Newt Gingrich did Clinton a big favor. They were nakedly partisan attention whores and extremely unlikeable people - Gingrich in particular is one of the most repulsive figures in modern political history. I have my doubts Clinton would have been reelected without Gingrich screwing up the optics of 1995 and 1996 as badly as he did. Starr handled everything about the Starr report horribly - the decision to fully release a report that was so incredibly crude was a terrible mistake, because it made a media circus focused on cigars and blue dresses, which made late night comedy fodder and which disgusted the average voter. It also shifted the focus to being about morals, which meant when one leading Republican after another was revealed as an adulterer, the public saw everyone as being the same, or the Republicans as just being hypocrites. Nancy Pelosi is not a media whore and I think she will handle this judiciously and as intelligently as possible, but beyond the Senate roadblocking any real investigation, there's also the amount of apathy and partisanship out there now. Many people will automatically believe Trump because they adore Trump. Many others simply don't care. They see all politicians as the same, and they are more worried about not being able to pay their bills. I think Pelosi knows that deep down this isn't going to do anything, but she was slowly but surely put into a position where there was going to be a huge cost for the Democrats in 2020 in terms of voter turnout and donations if she didn't act.- The Politics Thread
Two good articles (although the second goes off track into melodrama). https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/09/27/impeachment-trump-congress-house-228346 https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/09/27/trump-impeachment-national-security-house-democrats-moderate-mikie-sherrill-228430- Another World Discussion Thread
https://deadline.com/2019/09/emmy-winning-writer-and-tv-star-jan-merlin-dies-aged-94-1202743187/ (per AWHP he seemed to write for AW between 74-76) Jan Merlin, an Emmy-winning writer and actor best remembered for early TV series Tom Corbett, Space Cadet and The Rough Riders, has died at the age of 94. Merlin’s death was confirmed by his family and collaborator William Russo, with whom he wrote books about Hollywood. Merlin won a writing Emmy in 1975 for daytime NBC soap opera Another World.- The Politics Thread
I think it's easier in other countries partly because many of them don't elect a President directly. They vote in a party and the politicians of that party ultimately choose the prime minister or chancellor or what have you. I have the same fears you do, but I'm at the point where I don't know how many options we have. I don't like Bernie and I despise many of his supporters, and I will not support him unless there is no other option. All the other nominees bar Biden and Warren seem to be out of it, barring some last minute jolts. Between Biden and Warren, right now I would vote for Warren, but I know that the media and the GOP will tear her to pieces, along with many Democrats on the left and the right. It will be a very close race at best. If I had more trust in the people around Biden and in Biden's ability, I would probably vote for him as he's the safest choice, but right now that's really hard for me to do.- Twin Peaks

Castro seems a bit like Cory Booker to me in that I feel like they let hype hollow them both out too early and make them seem inauthentic. Biden's frailty and his family problems (I do think his son is a real problem) worry me more than his centrism at this point, but I agree that is going to just make the left even more angry. I know they will hate anyone, aside from St. Bernie, but Biden isn't doing himself any favors.- Twin Peaks

The shame-faced hypocrisy and partisanship of these people is amazing. They hate Obama. They hate the Clintons. They hate Biden. Or whoever is the nominee. But they love Trump.- The Media/Journalism Thread
I don't mean to begrudge Vargas for her struggles, and I know others at ABC were also involved, but the whole thing made me feel sick. This has been a longstanding narrative for the man who produced the 20/20 special and more recently wrote a book about Shepard's murder. https://thinkprogress.org/the-book-of-matt-doesn-t-prove-anything-other-than-the-size-of-stephen-jimenez-s-ego-c7ba5d0becee/- Vetsoapfan's Treasure Trove: Vintage Soap Material

The media will make this go against Democrats no matter what, as we're already seeing with the NYT, but I wish them luck as this past week has shown they have no choice but to start proceedings. Here's media darling Chris Christie, hilariously backtracking after Trump literally says exactly what he said should lead to impeachment. https://www.politico.com/states/new-jersey/story/2019/09/26/cuomo-alongside-christie-says-leftists-forced-impeachment-inquiry-1212363- Vetsoapfan's Treasure Trove: Vintage Soap Material
@vetsoapfan thank you for all these articles. That Georgianne LaPierre letter was just plain nuts, yet that type of invasive obsessiveness and judgment is something you see all the time now online. Love the Eileen columns. She loved to roast her "haters" before it was popular. I would have gotten a kick out of Eileen Fulton in the social media era. I was hoping that Another Life article would talk about the early episodes that are literally impossible to find, but still a good read, with some insights. The part about wanting to portray real violence in spite of objections was interesting to me, as I wish we had that type of approach more often. If memory serves they also tried to portray a rape and its aftermath realistically around this time. I can't remember how long they lasted on the show. Do you have Harding Lemay's 1971 TV Guide interview? I do. I wasn't going to post it if you already have it though. - The Politics Thread
