  1. Some said those were Quakers, as the Amish don't protest and they didn't dress like the Amish. (it also led me to read some sad details about Amish people and puppy mills)... It's been apparent from early on just how many white people, on the left and the right, have jumped into this tragedy to make it all about their own goals, but it's been pretty much confirmed now as the mayor of St. Paul said all of the people who were arrested yesterday for violating curfew were from out of state. Here are some horrible videos of black protesters begging white protesters to stop destroying property, only to be ignored, or to have these "allies" try to use the police against them.
  2. This was also the first I've seen of Paul. Santoro looked older in the photos of him I had (the article I posted here years ago seems to have disappeared - I'll try to find it again), although it's still pushing it to picture Pat Bruder in the matriarchal role (Ellen wasn't his bio mother but was still meant to be about 15 years older than him at least). He seems amiable enough here, even if he doesn't set the screen on fire. From some of my comments at the time I posted the article it looks like he agreed with Irna about the merits of the Paul/Liz/Dan drama. I agree that the material has a more personal feel; in the shorter clip you can believe Paul and Dan as brothers, Dan and Susan as having a complicated marriage, Dan's conflict over Betsy, etc. I guess it helps that Irna was so heavily involved with the dialogue. I wonder if there were ever any scenes of Ellen talking about Dan's paternity struggles in contrast to her never telling Dan (not until near the end of his life) about being his mother. From some old comments it also looks like Paul was killed off the week of December 4th.
  3. I wish Twitter did a better job with misinformation outside of the posturing with Trump. One of the trends on there is "Hitler Youth" because of third hand photos and videos that have come from nothing (and in some cases are likely a short woman, not a child) yet have convinced many that the government is deploying child soldiers. Embarrassingly enough, one of those bird-brained socialists, an alderman from Chicago no less, is pushing this nonsense.
  4. The part about the production values is what stands out most, as that criticism would follow Rauch around for years. I do agree with them about the stalling, but in clip form it's easier to tolerate because of the performers. I'm not sure how fans felt while watching live.
  5. My first Mindy was Kim Simms. I thought she was perfect - sultry, likeable, believable as Billy's little girl, yet capable of layers. Krista's Mindy seems slighter to me, shallower, but she's fine for what Mindy was in those years, and she had a good chemistry with Michael O'Leary. Barbara Crampton mostly just seemed very bland to me - I was so disappointed as I was such a fan of hers on Y&R. Ann Hamilton was just there. I had seen these episodes once about a decade ago, back when Megaupload was still a thing, but I had never saved them. They'd never really been on Youtube - until now. (Bert bitching about Bill and Meta as Papa tut-tuts never, ever ceases to entertain me) (this one has Ruth Warrick @SFK ) (that one is among the episodes where Bert's mother is so horrid that Mike runs away)
  6. It's always befuddled me as she gutted the Stewart family because of immorality yet she also was fine with having Kim raise her out of wedlock baby conceived with her sister's husband. Irna was such a fascinating figure, but I'm glad I never had to work for her. Was Irna involved with GL by then? I never remember her timeline. Some of the show feels so staid but then some bits like the first scene with Susan and Dan feels oddly 'with it' for these years. I wonder if it's because Marie Masters had such a brisk, unique delivery. Many ATWT actresses of these years feel zonked out. This is the other 1972 (I know it was already posted some pages back, sorry).
  7. Thanks for finding that. She had so much left to offer ATWT. It still makes me angry that we didn't even get her back for the last episodes - just no effort made whatsoever. [!@#$%^&*] Goutman.
  8. That's a very film noir element. Bell loved film noir elements when he could work them in. I appreciate the idea of an actor getting to talk in this much detail about a story of theirs. I hope more get to do so. Doug looks pretty good for his age - his voice still seems to be shot though.
  9. Thanks. I thought they must have been around at some point but probably just before my time. I never could watch WOST back then as my Internet was too slow. I'm glad it finally reappeared then. From what I've read the show in general seems so odd in this period (I guess this isn't the episode where David takes Ellen out to a bar to break the news). I wish more was available, but I guess two episodes and a clip is much more than I expected. It seems like these years of the show had boarders and guests more frequently...isn't that how Liz got her start in Oakdale?
  10. I will tape this one as it's from the '80s and I have never seen it, but it's a bit hilarious that John is in yet another "time to get a facelift" story - he had a similar episode a decade later. @jam6242 you may be interested in this one, even if it isn't much use of SSH's talents...
  11. An episode I don't think I've seen floating around. This one has been around for a while, in various places.
  12. This seems to be another Youtube channel that reuploads various clips from sites over the years, but there are at least TWO 1972 pieces I honestly don't remember seeing before. If they are also new to you you'd better save them while you can. @All My Shadows @Mitch @vetsoapfan @NothinButAttitude @DramatistDreamer @soapfan770 @Paul Raven @Soapsuds @slick jones (apologies to anyone I forgot in my rush)
  13. Some in the media are already reviving their campaigns against Kamala Harris:
  14. I feel like these protests are already being infiltrated by people who have no real interest in the message - either by white anarchists who just want to bring about their beloved revolution, or by operatives on the right. I've been seeing images of American flags set on fire and I know those will be playing all through to November.
  15. @BetterForgotten I thought you might be interested in this. A Bet/Julie fan on Twitter (the guy who runs the Youtube account above) put together some articles from 1995 about backstage drama over her exit.
  16. I guess Finn just returned to help with Scott Bryce's exit - I wonder if they asked her when they recast in the early '00s.
  17. You have Bernie bros trying to give his "movement" credit for the protests, you have Trump riling up his base by saying protesters should be shot, you have longtime Trump supporter Van Jones going on cable news trying to divert people away from the matter by saying Hillary voters are the real racists - yet again the real issues are being ignored and everything is being spun in a way which will help Trump. It's sickening. I saw that some have identified the man who was smashing windows at the Autozone as a cop in plainclothes, but I don't think it's been confirmed yet so I didn't want to link to the tweets.
  18. @All My Shadows I know this isn't your type of game show (it isn't mine either) but I thought it was interesting anyway. A Points of View type of program has someone go to question a programmer about one of the grotesque game shows that got so much oxygen in the late '90s/early '00s. http://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/Beat_the_Crusher
  19. Thanks for finding that. I suppose this was around the high water mark for ATWT's ratings in these years... I liked Sam, especially her partnership with Eliot, and I thought Brooke Alexander clicked with Scott Bryce and Tom Wiggin. I do think that having so many people conning Lucinda in a 3-4 year period, and having so many long-lost siblings pop up in a 2-year period, might not have been the greatest idea. I do think if they hadn't fired Alexander, the character could have had a chance. I didn't care for the recast...and then later regimes seemingly forgot the character ever existed.
  20. I remember how close it felt in late 1996. That was also when Claudia and her family were shoehorned into the show, which felt like another indication. I wonder if Bill's decline may have been a factor in not going forward. I had pretty much assumed GL was gone at this point as they had already gotten one reprieve in late 1994/early 1995.
  21. Thanks again for all your help on these details. I wish they had done more with Janie. I don't even think I've ever seen her but the potential is clearly there - her death seems so random, and makes me wonder if it's part of ABC's general pulling back on black characters (even if Loving still had their share at that time). What did Christine say about Weatherly?
  22. I'm in the distinct minority in that I never really liked John (I had quit watching by the time they killed him off). Most of my fondness for the Abbots was Traci, Mamie, Brenda's Ashley, and Peter's Jack (at the time I hadn't heard all the unpleasant stories on here about him and his acting had not become so grotesquely and bizarrely mannered).
  23. First I've heard of it. I have avoided these since the Otalia GL one had such painful audio but I always loved Duncan and Shannon. I wish Tamara Tunie could be there too but then she's probably very busy.
