I don't find Mehdi Hasan trustworthy in the least, based on his past political background and his clout-chasing, but I will commend him in this instance. Matt Taibbi, presumably assuming he'd be friendlier, or easy to roll, went on his show and revealed himself as even more of a pathetic hack. (there are several parts to this) Similar to when Bari Weiss made the mistake of not contorting herself enough for Elon's whims, he got the unfollow: Elon, threatened by Substack's plans, also decided to cut off links to Substack...even though many of his biggest sycophants, including Taibbi, make their money by that place. Taibbi, clearly seeing this as the right time to claim he can leave for some pure reason rather than being humiliated at every turn and finally crushed by the boot he developed such a taste for, is getting the hell out (for now, anyway). If only those other creeps in the grifter circuit could go with him.

Thanks @Skylover The late '90s/early '00s are my favorite versions of the song, probably.

That must have been the scene. Thanks. I do think Alexis loved Jax, and just accepted that nothing was ever going to happen. For a long time I wished it had, especially because I hated the Ned/Alexis pairing, but worse was to come...

There were a number of scenes in this period (although I was not watching very often, as I haven't on a regular basis since about 2000) where Carly was judged in the writing in a way she hadn't been in many years. I remember one where she was going to a wedding and overheard various people talking about what trash she was, and you could see the vulnerability and self-loathing in her that is often lacking post Sarah Brown. That's a strong set of scenes, but it's hard to watch now knowing how much Ingo ruined anything of the Jax/Alexis relationship, especially in recent years.

Sadly their response is to just further erode the democratic process to make any chance of losing fairly less and less common.

She's probably just happy for the work. Based on what I've seen of her recent performances she is as inadequate as ever.

This is what always took me out of them (well that and choices like having a character hanging from the rafters and somehow the show still went on), although I know many people loved it then, and still love it now. Considering the dreck fans have to put up with, if they do enjoy it, I should get off my high horse, I suppose.

Yes I just remember Alan, or maybe Katherine or Lucy. I think there were tabloid reporters from Extra or Access Hollywood who would pop up but I don't remember any red carpets.

I imagine Obrecht-mania was the attempt at camp in the revival years. The main problem with going with a lo-fi camp aspect is that you still can't hide that it's a very slick professional setting. I was rewatching the number with Lucky, Taggert, Dara and Liz, where they tried to add in a few touches of gangling or silliness, but the effort was defeated by the very slick presentation, that two clearly trained, professional singers were on display, and that we were meant to believe Lucky, who at that time despised the cops, and Liz, still recovering from a brutal rape poorly handled by the police, would be up there shaking their asses with a police officer who had gone out of his way to make it clear he had no use for anyone in that town and their nonsense. That's not camp - it's lobotomizing contrivance. The NB you want to see ended around 1996, which is when these should have ended, period.

Comfortably Smug is one of the worst people on Twitter and I don't read anything attached to their name. As for Lemon, it's obvious someone at CNN is out to get him. I question the reasons (I'm guessing one is his race and the other is his being gay), but I have never forgotten the way Lemon presented himself before flipping to fit into a new culture (for the network and the country). That made me completely unable to trust him. I also found his binge drinking antics less amusing and more of a cry for help. I'm not surprised to hear that he is such a messed up person, but if at least two things about him were different, he'd be the star of the show at that [!@#$%^&*] factory.- The Politics Thread
You can tell how much RFK Jr has alienated even those who should love the toxicity and division he will bring by the way that Jake Tapper, of all people, introduces him. This would not surprise me at all:- GH: Classic Thread
I think it's down to Guza knowing they were easy foils for Jason and Sonny, the cool, hip, edgy mobsters. Beyond that, they were a part of the show's legacy, which Guza also hated, and resented, as they would remind he was stuck on a soap, rather than working in primetime in movies. You could always feel the sheer loathing for them any time they appeared in his run.- General Hospital: April 2023 Discussion Thread
The Nurses' Ball was bad for most of the '90s as well, especially when they decided an event about HIV/AIDS prevention was really just an excuse for serial killers, sex tape reveals, and other garbage. At least now you don't have to see Wally Kurth trying to be a serious rocker (I hope...).- The Politics Thread
This is the petulant, delusional manner of a party who know they can and will do anything to hold onto power. As they have likely kept their supermajority in the state senate, there is already talk of impeaching the incoming justice. Between this and what's going on in North Carolina and Tennessee, we're entering an even uglier new chapter. Hopefully the party is ready, even as the media continues to support our march to oblivion.- GH: Classic Thread

More from NC: @Vee I did see through the Taniel account that Kelly was underperforming where he needed to do well. There was so much media hype that he would win due to backlash over the indictment, backlash that the Beltway was craving. This would be a crucial win for Democrats nationwide, and another case of the primary meddling that many on the left sneer at paying off.- The Politics Thread
I have so much hatred for these types of selfish people. She represents a blue district so she can't even claim she's going along with her voters. Supposedly she was upset over being criticized for missing key votes (she claimed it was because of long COVID). Her pouting is now going to mean all people in her state, especially women, minorities, lgbt people, will pay the price.- Neighbours: Discussion Thread
That's interesting. I'm not surprised about Byron (although I'm sorry he couldn't return - the actor was gorgeous and charismatic), but Nicolette had been there for a few years...I'd have thought if the actress didn't want to return they might have waited a bit.- The Politics Thread
In decades past, 60 Minutes was known for asking hard questions. Now they are a puff piece outlet for a hardcore extremist and hatemonger, one who, in spite of years of favorable media attention, has yet to be greeted with anything but disgust by much of the public. This interview was seemingly an attempt to change that, rather than a genuine effort on the part of CBS News.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

Another look at what the sassy sloth overlooked in the Disney fight, even as he (and the media) will never give up in "winning."- Ryan Seacreast leaving "Live with Kelly & Ryan"
I don't think it helped that Kathie Lee was just plain exhausting. I watched too much of Live in those years, mostly when staying with loved ones who had it on in the background every morning, or when in doctor's offices, and the shift from a "perky" figure to one who would spend 20-30 minutes every episode venting and complaining and being aggrieved was suffocating, even if I did share her views of the tabloids. Kathie Lee has never really been able to see the world around her, which later led to unfortunate moments like asking Martin Short questions about his happy marriage without knowing his wife had been dead for several years. The tabloids had lost some of their power by the time Kelly came along, but Kelly also just wasn't that interesting to write about in comparison. She's mostly a quietly tiring, shut down presence. - The Media/Journalism Thread
