  1. Ha ha I love this. It sucks that they stopped doing this type of promotion.
  2. A few clips I hadn't seen before.
  3. Who played Mignon? Was she fun? I always lose track of the various Sentells, Tourners, McClearys, etc. I was looking through some old posts about Janet and you mentioned that Mary Ellis Bunim strongarmed Lemay into having a female character brutally raped. That wasn't Sunny, right? I still never understand why the show just casually wrote Janet out when she had so many people on the show. Perhaps it was cost-cutting, but it's just strange to me they would write out the mother of the show's lead heroine at that point.
  4. That sounds very moving. Do you think the main story, Jennifer Harmon's divorce, was the weakest part of the show?
  5. I meant the whole racism story that seemed so rushed and tacked onto the character.
  6. Oh I forgot he played that part. So I have seen him. He was OK on there, just a little too old for the story to fully work. Yes. He was Laura's boss, Scooter, at the real estate place she worked out. They fell for each other, and he was going to leave his wife (Rosemary) but I think she got pregnant again by Richard.
  7. A rarely seen 1983 DAYS clip, a year I don't know all that much about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOV9u4t4jFE I always feel such a strong emotional connection with Launa Sanders when I watch her performances.
  8. Sharon must still be trying to stay in the business, as her photos at IMDB seem fairly recent and look like the type of professional shots submitted to IMDB.
  9. Thanks. That sounds very harrowing and yet also easy to relate to. I can see why the woman who played Fran got so many letters and cards from viewers.
  10. Love these promos, especially the second. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3dyvNnr8Dg&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KXJ1DbH4cE&feature=related

  12. Well, Claire Labine was going to try a "Children's Hour" story...beyond that, the closest is probably Lucy's HIV-positive friend, who appeared during part of 95-96. I can't remember if they said he was gay or if it was implied. There was also that strange, presumably unintentional period from 2000-2003 where I thought most of the younger male characters were a few drinks away from an orgy.
  13. Nice photos! I wish Rod Arrants hadn't gotten the perm/afro. I hope that wasn't any Luke homage.
  14. That sounds so sad. Was it too much for viewers? It's amazing how much of a risk soaps at this time would take and how they respected the intelligence of viewers. Why did Rachel blame herself? I guess they must have argued. Didn't this actor have a similar death on OLTL as Dave Seigel? I've seen photos of him and he seems like an actor I would have been very interested in. Unfortunately I've never seen any of his work.
  15. Apparently the drunk guy was Chuck. According to the poster on TWOP, he planned to kill India and frame an unstable Vietnam vet. He hit her in the head and hid her behind the sofa while the Vietnam vet had a meltdown and took a hostage. This went on for weeks and weeks, even though it was the same night. By the time the vet was arrested, India came to and said her husband had attacked her. India then left on a cruise which she never returned from. Here's a 1976 episode.

Some thoughts on the above clips: - Kin Shriner and Mary Beth Evans work very well together. I think Mary Beth has a better handle on her character than Kin does (I don't believe someone could be quite so goofy when they have as many problems as Mike Gallagher does), but I enjoy their scenes together. MBE manages to make a ridiculous and underwritten story work, even the fainting spells. - Sharon Farrell is OTT but yet somehow I still believe her as Dakota's mother. I enjoyed Sharon on Y&R and I enjoy her even more here. I like the clumsy, random way she tells Kin he has such a hairy chest, and how embarrassed her daughter is. - Some of the dialogue is so clumsy, like when Mike says, "Screw that!" and most of the stuff with the surrogacy. While the hairy chest scene is entertaining, it's not for the best reasons - Kin Shriner with his head in MBE's lap isn't quite the mental picture you'd expect on a safe soap, and the moment where she helps take off his shirt and he likes it is so...is that the best way to show his desire for her? I kept expecting Cherry to say, "Wow, you're REALLY enjoying this massage!" - The fight scene between Brady and Mike is hilarious. I wonder if JL and Kin had any laughs over this later on GH or PC. - Philece Sampler, from these few clips, was miscast as a heroine, and is very unpleasant and shrill. I don't understand why we are supposed to care about her relationship with Mike, and I wonder if the show had given up by this time. - The production values are a little nicer than I thought. The fantasy wedding actually looks beautiful. Didn't MBE wear this dress as her own wedding dress? - The fashions are so hideously entertaining. Mike's Hammer pants, Lacey's "I have to go work at the mall" getup in that same clip, Brady's supertight tan trousers that show more ass than I remember Lindstrom ever showing in his soap career, and later, both Dakota and Lacey are dressed as overgrown kids in their argument scene.
  17. Yeah I loved it. He seems like such a cool and modern guy in all I've read about him. I can't help wondering how many viewers at the time felt the same way he did.
  18. Yes, she had a rival named Spring Skye. Fia dated Giancarlo Esposito in real life. I found it odd that she was fired around the time she had a feature in SOD about their relationship and the pressures they faced.
  19. DAYS was right about Kevin Costner... Audrey Ames worked on the soap within a soap, Fraternity Row. She dated manwhore Jon Russell, and was paralyzed for some months in the accident that also killed Alicia Grande and her baby.
  20. June 1971 Afternoon TV.
  21. From an August 1992 update, a rare interview with the superb Maureen Garrett.
