  1. The main problem with Laurel was the smugness. Her name was Corinne.
  2. Who is that woman?
  3. Watching the 1996 stuff again, I'm reminded of some of the times I did like Laura, when she was quieter and more vulnerable, like talking about not having parents. It's just about impossible to care about Laurel's death. The flashbacks don't help because you mostly try to figure out what hairstyle Kiberd will have. You also can't care that much about Trevor or Michael, either because Trevor/Laurel were forced, or because Chris Bruno couldn't act. The best scenes were Jack's eulogy. I also liked the little moment with Hayley and Tim when she was trying to help him get ready and he rebuffed her. It was also a nice touch to have Tom and Jamal return. I'd forgotten about that. The best stuff on the show is everything with Tad and Liza and WRCW. The scene where Hayley tears into them and then Trevor tells them to leave was great - I have remembered the Hayley part for years now. The argument between Dixie and Tad is very raw, and reminds me again that it seems like this always happened with Dixie towards the end of her runs in PV, a certain coldness and sharpness. The way Tad spoke to her was tough stuff, and I liked Liza eavesdropping on them, and Marcy Walker not playing any type of cheesy villain grins. I almost forget at times that Sabatino and Lucci had solid chemistry. I'm not sure why they made Kinder evil. The Noah/Julia/Taylor story is so out of place with the rest of the show, and just dead. I think this was a case of a show writing for a couple based solely on this couple's popularity, not because they actually had any plans for them. It's crap.
  4. This seems to be the big moment from the debate. I think this will cause a sympathy backlash for Perry. It's kind of quasi-Reagan. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/rick-perrys-oops-in-republican-debate-could-have-long-lasting-implications-for-his-campaign-video/2011/11/09/gIQAqUBr6M_blog.html
  5. I preferred Edmund too, but they never gave him anything good to do after Maria left. The Kit story, the Alex story...and then his reunion with Brooke became about Maria.
  6. Maybe she can cast him on Y&R. I think he worked very well in his first years but became irrelevant after Eva La Rue left the first time. i would have written Maria and Edmund out in 1997.

  9. I'm not sure with Callahan. He'd been in shows like Falcon Crest during his time away from daytime, but had been on Santa Barbara not long before AMC. Scalia had some primetime work. He had a regular role on Dallas and I think he'd had a show of his own. He was awful casting for AMC. I recoiled the first time I saw him on the show and even now, when I watch little clips again like the fan february episode with Erica/Tad marrying, I still cringe at him. He was just so fake and out of place.
  10. I'm glad he's still doing well. He looks so similar now to what he looked like then.
  11. I didn't know that. That's awful.
  12. And look at what a good job they did with this compared to later material for Maxwell Caulfield and Jack Scalia.
  13. This is an interesting article. Until I read this I didn't quite get why some on the far right were so adamantly defending Cain. Now I see. It's not about Cain, it's about convincing people that there is no such thing as sexual harassment. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2011/11/herman_cain_s_conservative_defenders_are_going_totally_overboard.html?fb_ref=sm_fb_plugin_activity
  14. The right wing media is corporate, not social. They have as little reason to support this amendment as anyone. It's extremely divisive to the right.
  15. Many conservatives opposed this measure; I'm not sure what they have to do with each other.
  16. Yeah, the dialogue between Ellen and Lisa could be generic, but Fulton does twist it around to let you know they aren't exactly friends. I wonder a few times about Eileen's hair and makeup choices in those years...in the early 80s she still looked very stylish. She does improve again by the early 90's. I also like how in this episode Julie is still recovering from her abortion. On a soap today she'd be having sex with Andy already.
  17. You can see the carriage house, briefly, when Carrie and Ross are dining - I guess they redesigned it later. I love Diane. She is so intelligent, a little too intelligent, and the way she keeps digging in is riveting. The scene where she kept asking Alan about Elizabeth's delivery, and finally he has to get her to stop. I don't know why they wrote her out. This type of character could have fit in for years. I can see her going toe to toe with Reva and trying to convince HB or Billy that she was Alan's victim. I never knew that Phillip was jealous of Jackie and Justin having their own child. The boy who played him was starting to become a decent young actor. I'm not sorry they recast but I wonder why they never brought him back when Grant left in 1984. I guess he was too young. Tom Nielsen is not much of an actor, but he tries very hard in the scene with Nola. Such beautiful work from Lisa Brown. I liked all the Carrie stuff too. What did you think of her?
  18. Search promo at the start of this. Stephanie is no match for Busmalis from Oz. I didn't know David (that's his name right?) was still on the show at this time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJMz3hx3I5k&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
  19. Y&R promo at the start of this. Jaime Lyn Bauer's work as Lori rarely fails to fascinate me. I wish I could see more of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJMz3hx3I5k&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
  20. Some actors at the time bought some of their reels, for one reason or another (sentimental, or for Emmy consideration). They're releasing some GL episodes on DVD, if the ATWT set does well. Some of us have suggested including Carrie episodes. If anyone knows any specific episode dates or numbers for Carrie material, that may help. Sorry for straying off-topic.

  22. The wonderful uploader of classic soap material, saynotoursoap, has uploaded an August 1981 GL episode. The first Carrie clips in this have been around - in a very short scene - but there are other scenes in this and two more clips which show Carrie meeting Justin and Jackie Marler. I hadn't seen any of this before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSi49wCdxh0&feature=autoplay&list=UL2viJqAJhK5s&lf=mfu_in_order&playnext=2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcgAuB5kZts&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
  23. I liked that scene where she said she always talked calmly with Arthur, and why did she always fight with Sam.
