  1. This is from a 1969 Afternoon TV on soap actors who moonlight on Broadway.
  2. I wonder when they realized he and Carolee were endgame. If it was fan response or what. For most of 1968 it seemed like she was mostly just one of the women he used and discarded.
  3. I also think they believed for a while Terry might return once his play was over (as we got postcards from John for a few months). I guess Jody Lee must have been created when they knew he wasn't coming back. Steve likely also benefited quite a bit from his departure, as he has steadily built and built from a caddish supporting character.
  4. RIP Elizabeth Wilson. http://www.collinsporthistoricalsociety.com/2015/05/obituary-elizabeth-wilson.html
  5. Wasn't Angie like Willis' kept woman? Gwen was his boss at Frame Construction, so that may be why they became close. The line was that she left for her theater work (the A Coupla White Chicks... play). Not sure if it's true or not, as the departure seemed abrupt, but who knows. I wish we could see more of her run. I felt a little sorry for her when she said in a later interview that she came back for the anniversary and the Gwen she was playing bore no resemblance to the woman she'd been before. They really just wrote her as Opal without an accent. Only in her last scene where she apologized to Rachel did she seem more human.
  6. Thank you for all your work. I really don't think I would have been as able to enjoy the show early on without your synopses and your articles. You really did us all a favor.
  7. No, I mean cornpone like even more of caricatures than we got of Billy Clyde or Opal on AMC. Or that Kentucky Bluebird on SFT. Or the country cousin cliche you used to get on sitcoms.
  8. Fan debate over whether Sylvia from Intervention was Carla Dragoni.
  9. There's been a lot of fan debate over whether or not she played Betsy Kenicott under the name Carla Dragoni. Some full episodes with Betsy were put on Youtube several months back and some insisted they didn't look alike. To me they did, but I don't know.
  10. You have to laugh. This family never ceases to shock me with their head-in-sand-itis. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/laura-ingraham-jeb-bush-iraq
  11. I do, yes. But they would likely all be written as cornpone trash and never have a shot. The last time I remember a soap sort of trying to make earthier characters was Ron "me and my ego" Carlivati with the Texas group, but sadly that included the trainwreck known as Farah Finger, so it all went to hell. By the time those two idiots were working for Dorian, I'd gone into full cringe mode.
  12. Bev Unwin will be returning for Deirdre's funeral. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/bev-unwin-returns-coronation-street-5681497 I'm glad they did this. It wasn't something they "had" to do, as Bev has only been an offcamera friend for nearly a decade now, but it's respectful to the characters and their history. Deirdre had so few friends and loved ones left that Peter and Bev are the only two I could really think of that I wanted to see again, so I'm glad Blackburn or whoever thought of this.
  13. I don't think Vicky was that new to AW - AW had a lot of female schemers during Cecile's run. I do think AW struggled somewhat in later years with writing ingenues and "good" women, rather than bad girls who slowly became good (like Paulina, Lorna and Vicky). Look at all the problems they had writing for Marley. I think if there was a shift it was in AW moving fully away from that earthier side. Even Sharlene was very glamorous outside of the apron and the hair on top of her head.
  14. I think part of it was longevity (many of the other women introduced in Clarice's run didn't stay around long), and also because she was sweet and nice, a little quirky, she and Larry were a believable, likeable couple, she had good relationships with Ada, Blaine, etc. I agree that she likely would have been killed if she'd stayed past 1986, but I do think it would have been interesting to see her tangle with CD's Iris, especially if Iris became fond of Cory, like a son.
  15. I wouldn't be surprised. I liked Charlie. I thought he and Ada were a good match. It was always hard to believe he was Clarice's father though.
  16. Sad to say I think the only interesting thing about Sansa's story so far this season is Iwan Rheon's ass. They also seemed to re-use some old Sansa/Joffrey scenes tonight, even though Sansa is not the same as she was in season 2. Recycling seems to be the theme of this season.
  17. I still don't know why Charlie Hobson had to die, but introducing his son only at his funeral makes even less sense to me.
  18. He was. He left with that random daughter of Steve's. I still wonder why they never brought her back later on. I remember thinking the Sheas (in the limited 1982 footage I've seen) were generic and depressing, but then, that was the show at that point. I don't think it can be stated enough how much characters like Donna, Cass, and Felicia did for AW.
  19. Thanks for finding all that for us. I used to enjoy Ryan's Bar. I miss the little fandom that Soapnet helped create, although after it was taken off the network I lost interest, as most of those who were left were in some weird fiefdom. I think that may be an article I scanned...
  20. I checked back to December and couldn't find this uploaded. If it has been, my apologies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4MX7TwCgRo
  21. I wouldn't say it's OOC for Ellaria to have this plan, as she had no real character last season beyond Oberyn's partner, but the writing is basic and mostly amounts to the women being out of control while Doran is calm and cool. It's mostly just a replay of themes they already exhausted with Cersei and Tywin and the whole thing is lackluster, like they figured pretty location footage was all they needed to tell a story.
  22. Maybe funding fell through.
