  1. Former “One Life to Live” star Kamar de los Reyes has died. The actor, best known for his portrayal of Antonio Vega off and on from 1995-2009 on the ABC daytime drama series, passed away on Sunday in Los Angeles after a brief battle with cancer, a rep for the family confirmed to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter this morning. He was 56 years old. Moving to Los Angeles in the late 80s after visiting his brother Daniel, de los Reyes was born in Puerto Rico but raised in Las Vegas. He got his big break when he landed a dancing role in Cher’s music video for “We All Sleep Alone,” which Daniel had played percussion. The actor would go on to work with director Kenny Ortega in the 1988 film “Salsa.” Before joining “One Life to Live,” de los Reyes appeared in several projects, including the films “East L.A. Warriors,” “ “Lethal Ninja” and “Street Knight.” He also co-starred in the series “Valley of the Dolls.” He would later make appearances in such shows as “New York Undercover,” “Total Recall 2070,” “Touch by an Angel,” “Early Edition,” “CSI: Miami,” “Law & Order Criminal Intent” and “The Mentalist,” along with several others. In the gaming world, de los Reyes became a recognizable voice with his portrayal of Raul Menendez, a fictional Nicaraguan drug lord and leader of the terrorist organization Cordis Die, in “Call of Duty: Black Ops II.” The character became so popular that the actor would be called back for additional games in the series, including “Call of Duty: Strike Team,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4,” “Call of Duty: Mobile,” and “Call of Duty: Vanguard.” In addition to voicing the character, de los Reyes appeared as a version of the character courtesy of motion and facial capture. In 2017, de los Reyes was part of the cast of the short-lived FOX drama “Sleepy Hollow,” playing the role of Jobe. He also appeared in episodes of “MacGyver,” “ SEAL Team,” “The Passage” and “The Rookie.” More recently, de los Reyes played Coach Montes in “All American.” Photo by Jill Johnson/JPI Studios Receiving five ALMA Award nominations throughout his time on “One Life to Live,” de los Reyes finally took home the award in 2008 in the Outstanding Performance in a Daytime Drama Series category. He and his real-life wife and former “One Life to Live” co-star, Sherri Saum (ex-Keri Reynolds; “The Fosters”), received recognition at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2002 when they were nominated for a special fan award, dubbed America’s Favorite Couple. According to The Hollywood Reporter, at the time of his death, de los Reyes was in the midst of work on “All American” and had recently shot a role for Hulu’s not-yet-released “Washington Black,” starring “This is Us” actor Sterling K. Brown. He also has a pretty significant role in Marvel’s upcoming “Daredevil” series reboot for Disney+. Kamar de los Reyes is survived by his wife, Sherri Saum; sons Caylen (26, from a previous relationship) and twins Michael and John (9); his brothers Daniel and Walfredo, Jr; his sisters Lily and Ilde; his mother, Matilde, and his father Walfredo. 2. Except for “Days of our Lives,” which is available exclusively on Peacock, the two broadcast networks that still carry scripted programming as part of their daytime lineups, ABC and CBS, opted to preempt their hit shows for sports on Christmas Day (Monday, December 25). On ABC, the network will carry NBA Basketball instead of an original “General Hospital” episode with ESPN on ABC Sports coverage of the Golden State Warriors at Denver Nuggets game on the East Coast and the Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers on the West Coast. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” will air as scheduled on the East Coast with Broadway performers Alyssa Fox, Sonya Balsara, Vincent Jamal Hooper and Alex Nicholson, and a performance by Shoshana Bean and Tyler Hardwick. The show is preempted on the West Coast. On both coasts, The View” is preempted for the network’s airing of the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade. Meanwhile, on New Year’s Day (Monday, January 1), ABC will preempt its full daytime schedule, including “The View,” GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “General Hospital,” in order to present The Rose Parade and ESPN on ABC Sports coverage of College Football with the Cheeze-It Citrus Bowl: Iowa vs. Tennessee. As for CBS, the network is preempting “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” on Christmas Day to air CBS Sports coverage of NFL Football featuring the Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs. Both shows will air originals on Tuesday, December 26 through Thursday, December 28, but are scheduled to air reruns on Friday, December 29, with “The Bold and the Beautiful” airing episode #9048, which originally aired on Friday, June 23, 2023, and featured Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) racing to get to Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) in order to admit his true feelings for her, while Liam’s (Scott Clifton) world comes crashing down as he witnesses an intimate moment between Hope (Annika Noelle) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). The episode is part of the Rome, Italy, location shoot that took place earlier this year. “The Young and the Restless” will air episode #7735, originally aired on October 13, 2003, and featured Victor (Eric Braeden) receiving a painful reminder about his past. Meanwhile, Nikki and Sharon (Melody Thomas Scott and Sharon Case) fight for the spotlight, and Brad (Don Diamont) worries about Ashley (Eileen Davidson) as Kevin (Greg Rikaart) plays with fire. At press time, CBS was scheduled to air its full daytime lineup, including “The Price is Right,” “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Talk” and “Let’s Make a Deal.” Note: The post ABC and CBS Preempt Daytime Lineups for Sports Coverage on Christmas Day appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 3. More than four years since he last appeared as Xander Avant on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” actor Adain Bradley is set to return to the daytime drama series starting with the Thursday, December 28 episode. Bradley will be sharing his first scenes back on the canvas with Tanner Novlan, who plays Finn on the soap opera, as Xander is shocked to learn that his new doctor has a connection to the Forrester family. Bradley first joined the cast of “The Bold and the Beautiful” in June 2018 as Xander but was last seen in August 2019 when the character got fired from Forrester Creations after his involvement in the baby switch storyline was exposed. Humiliated, Xander moved back to London while his equally guilty girlfriend, Zoe Buckingham, remained in Los Angeles. Xander is Maya and Nicole Avant’s first cousin. Since exiting the soap, Bradley has gone on to appear in episodes of such shows as “The 100,” “All American,” and “Industry.” In 2021, Bradley appeared in two episodes of “Fantasy Island,” FOX’s reboot of the classic ABC drama. The since-canceled series starred Roselyn Sanchez (“As The World Turns,” “Devious Maids”) and Kiara Barnes, who previously portrayed Zoe on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” marking a reunion of sorts for Barnes and Bradley. 16. Looks like they had a typo. They had her listed, but for some reason, they put her down as being from The Young and the Restless. I guess because Jeanne Cooper won the previous year? Odd.

  18. Right. I mentioned that in the article. When I saw the placement on the service really early this AM it reminded me that the Top 10 list was coming out. Maybe next week it'll be in the Top 5 if it continues on this path. Not a bad spot to be in considering the movies ahead of it are putting up huge numbers themselves.
  19. OMG! That article is a mess! Like WTF? Did they not realize we are days away from 2024? Most of this "casting" crap cited is OLD AS HELL and not accurate now. Seriously? They even cited Soap Opera News but the article linked to Soaps She Knows. I mean, get your outlets straight much? YIKES!
  20. On the Monday, December 18 episode of ABC’s “General Hospital,” you might have heard, “The role of Josslyn Jacks is temporarily being played by Courtney Fulk.” Turns out your ears and eyes weren’t playing tricks on you, and that was, in fact, a different actress portraying the role of Carly (Laura Wright) and Jax’s daughter. It’s understood that the show had to temporarily recast the role of Josslyn after regular portrayer Eden McCoy took a leave of absence last month in order to deal with personal matters, specifically the death of her mother, who passed away after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. In a post on Instagram on November 6, McCoy said, “It feels bizarre and almost performative to make a post so personal on the most impersonal space, but many people who knew my mother and also knew me didn’t know what was going on, and this is the easiest way to let everyone know. They also deserve to mourn and part with her in whatever way they may choose.” She added, “I’m not sure what to say other than she was, is, and will be the best thing I have ever known. She is responsible for every good part of me, and she took me with her when she left . If there is anything I can say to whoever is reading, it would be that absolutely nothing is promised. We really aren’t owed anything. Your life really can change in just a moment, so as my mom would say, do everything as if it your last time doing it.” On Friday, McCoy won her first Daytime Emmy Award after three nominations. She took home the gold in the Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series category for her role as Josslyn Jacks in what would become her final year of eligibility. She was previously nominated in the same category in 2019 and 2020. Photo by Sonja Flemming/CBS McCoy told Soap Opera Network on the red carpet that the dress she wore was picked out by her late mother, stating, “My mom picked it out for me a million years ago when [the Emmys] was originally supposed to happen, so I figured I’d just wear it. I just wanted something really classic and timeless that felt like me, and I’m all about being simple. Simple 90s. So, we threw it on, and it still fits.” At press time, it was unclear how long McCoy would be out for on-screen. However, Deadline reports that a spokesperson shared that McCoy is “on a brief sabbatical and will return at the beginning of the new year.” Fulk is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, with her first credited role being the 2021 TV movie, “Killer Cheer Mom” which also starred Denise Richards (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Thomas Calabro (“Melrose Place”). Fulk followed that up in 2022 with another TV movie titled “Student Seduction.” Filling in as Josslyn on “General Hospital” marks Fulk’s first major role in a television series. 21. Wow! That's a lot of shows on one network, especially in the daytime. This is what I'd like to see in the future. Networks programming multiple shows throughout the day like they do primetime but on a five day schedule so we have more variety and don't have to commit too much of our lives to some shows. For instance, it's one thing to watch a one hour show one time per week, it's another to watch five hours of one show five days in a row. It would be much easier to watch a half hour show five days a week, or a weekend binge that lasts for just 2.5 hours. Just sayin'
  22. 23. Two years after joining the cast of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” actress Krista Allen is out as Dr. Taylor Hayes on the popular daytime drama series. In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Allen noted that she found out in October that the show had decided not to extend her contract into a third year and that her last appearance on the show was the November 8 episode. Allen, who was first hired onto the show in October 2021, with her first appearance being December 10, 2021, told the outlet, “The craziest thing is right before I got dropped, I did the cast photo shoot, and then the next week they called and said, ‘we’re not going to keep your third year and thank you very much, you were wonderful and thank you, goodbye.” She added, “And I was like, what?” “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2023 Cast Photo) Sean Smith/Bell-Phillip Television Productions “I think the hardest thing for me has been trying to stay quiet,” Allen noted to Deadline in her interview, published hours before the actress appeared in person on the red carpet at “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” where she was nominated for her portrayal of Taylor in the category of Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress. The award was won posthumously by Sonya Eddy (Epiphany Johnson, “General Hospital”), who died last year following complications from surgery. In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Allen said of Eddy’s win, “All the joy I’m feeling that Sonya Eddy won this!! I would have loved to take home that Emmy, but if it wasn’t me, I prayed it would be Sonya!! She was an incredible human and an incredible actress. I’m certain she’s smiling that big beautiful smile and doing a happy dance up in heaven!” As for Allen, who kept the news secret for some time about her departure, she exclaimed to Deadline, “I haven’t known what to say. And then when I got dropped, I was like, ‘oh, okay, is the show going to announce this?’ But they never did. And then on December 10, just recently, it was Taylor’s two-year anniversary [of being back on show], and I came back to Twitter for the first time since June to engage with fans again, just to say thank you because there were so many congratulations and people saying, ‘I can’t wait to see you back on screen’ and ‘when are you coming back?’” Prior to breaking her silence through Deadline, Allen tweeted to her fans on Sunday, December 10, saying, “Hello #TeamTaylor I miss you as much as you miss me (frfr!) and I love you so BIG!!!!! You’ll never know how much I appreciate each and every one of you – or how much joy you give me – but, from the bottom of my heart … Thank you!” At the time, Allen made no reference to her departure. In another tweet post several hours prior to the release of the Deadline article, Allen shared, “I’m laying here smiling like a nerd! Thinking about tomorrow night and all the amazing talent and shows nominated in all the categories, wondering if they are all smiling like a nerd, too! I am just so freakin stoked to be a part of this magical event. And, it’s the 50th anniversary! Sending out all the happy vibes!” In an interview with PEOPLE, published on Monday, Allen points out, “The contract was dropped, which is so crazy. It’s like, make that make sense.” She added, “I didn’t know what to say, so I didn’t say anything. But yeah, there’s no better time than now.” As for what’s next for Allen, she revealed she might write a book as her next venture, which might sound similar to her recent real-life experience. “It’s based on a true story… About a woman who took over a role on a soap opera and against all odds ended up winning over a fan base and getting nominated for an Emmy,” she stated. “And then there’s a lot of backstage drama going on, and she has to find her way.” On writing a possible page-turner, Allen says, “I think I could write something really fun, really make it dramatic and really soapy.” She added, “I figure if I could just make a fun book and just make it into a real-life soap opera kind of thing because it kind of feels that way.” On Instagram this weekend, and first revealed in the Deadline interview, Allen has been documenting her move across the country from Los Angeles to Atlanta, Georgia. Of the move, she says, “It just seemed like the perfect time to go. It’s turning the page on this really interesting chapter, and now we’re going to the next one.” Note: The post Krista Allen Exits ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ as Dr. Taylor Hayes, Moves to Atlanta for “Interesting Chapter” appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 25. On the same night “General Hospital” took home its 16th Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, Nathan Varni, the ABC Current Series Executive in charge of production for the daytime drama series, hopes to bring back lapsed viewers. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Varni congratulated everyone at the series for their wins and thanked the fans for tuning in. However, it was his 2024 goal that was most noteworthy to followers. ABC In his post, Varni said, “Congrats to the hardest working crew, producers and talent, it’s a pleasure to be back with my #gh family. To our fans, thank you for sticking with us!” He added, “My 2024 goal is to win back our lapsed viewers, we have a lot of work to do but we’re all ready to work hard for YOU!” Since it was published on Friday, the post has garnered over 131,000 views on X at press time. Comments were turned off on the post, but the hashtag “Why I Quit GH” was trending on Monday, with supposed former viewers of the show pointing out why they quit watching. Some comments pointed out their dislike for current characters or their favorite character being killed off. Some also pointed out how certain characters weren’t getting enough airtime while others commanded too much screen time. Meanwhile, a post by X user @JBernardJones in response to Varni’s tweet was even more noteworthy in highlighting the show’s good parts and why they continue watching. “I have many complaints about the show, but there is much to enjoy. I don’t like every decision, but these people work extremely hard to bring us over 200 shows a year under tons of pressure,” said the poster. “In the grand scheme & in light of how we’ve only 4 soaps (w/ only 3 on network tv), I’m rooting FOR #GeneralHospital & the rest in this climate, not against them.” According to Nielsen’s most recent ratings data, “General Hospital” is slightly down from its season average among Total Viewers (Live+Same Day). During the week of December 4-8, 2023, the most recent week in which ratings are available, the show averaged just 1.991 million viewers, down -6,000 viewers from one week prior and marking the fourth time this season the show has been below the two million viewer mark. The show was down -140,000 viewers over the comparable week in 2021, down -199,000 viewers over the comparable week in 2020 and down -49,000 viewers over the comparable week in 2019. Note: Numbers compared to the same week in 2022 were unavailable to Soap Opera Network at press time. In January, ABC will air a primetime special to honor the 60th anniversary of “General Hospital,” featuring several of the show’s current and former stars talking about their time working in Port Charles. The special will air following the highly anticipated LIVE wedding between Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, titled “The Golden Wedding,” on Thursday, January 4. In addition to winning Outstanding Daytime Drama Series during Friday’s Daytime Emmys telecast, “General Hospital” also took home four acting awards for its stars, including a posthumous win for Sonya Eddy, and the Emmy for Outstanding Directing Team for a Daytime Drama Series. On Saturday afternoon, during the Creative Arts Ceremony, the show’s legendary casting director, Mark Teschner, took home his tenth Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Casting for a Daytime Drama Series. Overall, “General Hospital” won seven Daytime Emmy Awards this year. As for Varni, in addition to overseeing “General Hospital,” he also oversees “The Conners,” “Will Trent,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19” for the network.
